potential problems with using rayon/linen blend as quilt back?

Hi everyone!

I just finished a quilt top and found the most fabulous linen/rayon blend in 60" wide at a local fabric store.  It is the perfect color and because it is so wide, I won't have to piece the back.  The front of the quilt is a mix of 100% linen, 100% cotton, and a cotton/linen blend.

Are there any potential problems with using this type of fabric as a quilt back?  it is really soft, but it is the rayon content that worries me.

Thanks!!

It's hard to say. What kind of quilt is it? Will the rayon blend wash up well if the quilt is likely to be washed often? I wouldn't try to hand quilt it, and if it's very soft, it might be hard to stabilize well enough to machine quilt. If I DID machine quilt it, I would do so with the backing side up so I could watch for wrinkles and stretching.

Sometimes I make quick projects that I honestly don't expect to last forever, so I don't mind using questionable fabrics on them. If I am making something that I hope will become an heirloom, I use top quality cottons.
