Woman's fitted dress shirt pattern
on: February 23, 2009, 01:39:28 PM
Hello lovely SMS forum members!
OK, I want to make myself dress shirts for work (business-casual environment). The problem I have with most ready made dress shirts I buy is that the arms are just a wee too short. I've hunted high and low for a classic and sharp women's dress shirt pattern, but can't find any. I have only looked at the big name pattern companies, though (Butterick, Simplicity, Vogue, and McCall's) because when Joanne's has a sale those puppies are so cheap. I am more than willing to shell out the normal price for a good shirt pattern, I just don't know where to begin.
I'm looking for a classic, button-down, fitted dress shirt pattern that can be made with normal shirting material. Butterick 4609 and McCalls 5138 are along the lines of what I'm going for, but would love other options. Any suggestions for patterns?? Thanks everyone!!

I recently got an older button down shirt pattern at a thrift shop, I'll have to dig it out to give you the numbers. It's cute! Be back in a bit with the info.

Check out Burdastyle. They have a lot of low to now-cost patterns. Having made several, they all work out very well, the instructions are simple and the fit is really good.
Here's a link to their Emily pattern:

Here is the pattern I mentioned earlier - It's from 1996, so I don't know how easy it would be to find. I think the cropped sleeve style looks cute!

What's the number on the Simplicity pattern? I tried 9210 & 8210 and neither had a hit. Thanks so much for both suggestions!!!
