How do you add lining?

    How do you add lining?
    on: February 23, 2009, 08:58:40 PM
Newbie here!  I'm making summer dresses for my girls out of quilt-weight cotton. So far so good, except I can tell the white-background fabric is going to be too see-through/flimsy.  How do I line the whole dress?  I'm just doing simple sundress / peasant-type styles.  Thanks so much for any help!

I'm not an expert with sewing clothing, but to line the top part, I would probably cut two of the shape you want (one piece of outer fabric, one of lining) and sew them with right sides in and leave an opening to turn the material right side out. Then I would just construct the top from pieces made like that. As for the bottom, you could do the same thing, or you could create a layering effect and have the outer and inner fabrics just stacked and sewn onto the top part.

I could be totally wrong, but that's how I would approach it.
