what to do with a half yard?

    what to do with a half yard?

    Hi everyone,

    I just began to learn how to sew & I've bought myself some wonderful fabrics on etsy (to get to know their system).
    I've bought 2 1/2 yards, so they arent big enough for what i had in mind (in Belgium we use meters & cm).
    Now I'm wondering if anyone have an idea of what i can make with these fabrics?

    these are the fabrics which I'm talking about.

      Cute fabrics! If you were to cut them in half again, they would then be Fat Quarters! Take a look through the posts at the Sew, Mama, Sew blog and there are a ton of projects listen since this month is FQ Month.

                Lovely fabric.

                With first one: a zipper to keep sewing equipment in when you are on your way and want to have it with you.
                The second one: a bag or a belt

                  I agree that these would make adorable purses.  Check out the SMS Blog for the Fat Quarter Month tutorials.  There is a great handbag how-to on there.  You can tailor it to be any size you'd like.

                    a purse, part of a quilt (it takes very little fabric to make a quilt top, you will have to get more fabric still though), I liked the ideas of a tote and an apron. FQ month might be your best bet. Cute fabric!

                      I think the top one would make an adorable tote bag and the bottom one could be the straps for the bag if you like the way that looks.  You can never have too many bags...or it would also be a really cute shopping bag, and I bet you could get two smaller ones instead of one larger one of it.  In any case the fabrics are adorable!

                              What about a cover of sorts for your sewing machine? The red fabric would be perfect for that. You'd probably have to do a sort of free design, but I don't think it would be too tough to figure out! Cute fabric choices!

                                 What great suggestions?  Bags, aprons, quilts...I really enjoyed the doll quilt sew along, so it's another option.  Just add a few more fabrics.
