I am a former collections curator.  I stored quilts for the museum where I worked in one of two ways.  I used the acid free boxes from companies like University Products or Gaylord Brothers and stuffed the folds of the quilts with bunches of acid free tissue paper (available from the same companies).  The tissue helped to prevent creasing.  You can also purchase tubes, cover them with Mylar, then roll the quilts onto the tubes along with a layer of acid free paper.  Then wrap the whole thing with Tyvek or unbleached muslin as a dust protector.  Then it is best to hang the tubes so that the quilts aren't resting on only one side, or, move them periodically.

My grandmother always told me to store a quilt rolled rather than folded and to take them out and reroll every few months.
