Teenagers choices

    Teenagers choices
    on: March 01, 2009, 02:38:37 PM
Can anybody give me any insight as to what colors/prints that most teenage girls would like? A lady wants me to make 4 purses for the senior girls attending girls state this spring & she said oh something teenage girls like. Well I'm guessing something pink or purple-flowery type but I'm not sure. HELP!!! I have a 7 yr old & I know what she likes. I'm not comfortable making anything with skulls on it for girls.

I know what you mean about the skulls.  Thankfully, I think there's less of that ickiness out there these days.

I just made my cousin (a senior in high school) a purse out of the red version of this fabric with red and white striped piping.  She loved it.

      These could also work:

I've seen this fabric at Joann too with a white background and little butterflies on it in various solid colors in a palette that looks like a teenager.  I couldn't find it online.

I also might check out Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks line.  The colors are very young and vibrant and bold but the patterns are sophisticated enough to be befitting of young ladies.

If we're talking more on the older teenage (like 17-18, you said Senior girls) I would suggest something that looked designer and trendy. Think polka dots, maybe some zebra print. Or bright colors (hot pink, bright green..)

If it's younger teens I would think some funky flowers, stars, something like that. Think something Hannah Montana would wear?

Yeah, for older teens I would think something like Valori Wells... fun, funky, fresh and yet still pretty.  Would love to see them when you finish!

Thanks so much. I really needed help with this one. I will think trendy, bright & fun. They are senior girls. I really want them to like what I make.

I would go with the AM Horner  fabrics the Irene has a link to.  My son is 17 and I def could see some of his girlfriends with bags in those fabrics.

Or even some of the Amy Butler fabrics.  Her bags always look so great.

I helped a group of inner city girls (mostly younger teens) with making small quilts out of random leftovers I gathered up from several places (my grandma's giant stash, various clearance racks, etc.), and they really liked some of the prints that were supposedly 1800s reprints, which surprised me.

I made my 16 year old sister a tote out of Tina Givens fabric - made one for my 32 year old sister too, and she is young at heart.  Here they are - http://www.flickr.com/photos/14437252@N04/3131398317/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/14437252@N04/3211079506/.  I think all her fabric is fun and "youngish".  I also love Anna Marie Horner's Good Folks line!  Good luck!

No JoAnn's fabrics! I grew up with them and HATE them, too embarrassing in high school. AM fabric is super cute and trendy!
