Hanging Quilt - Maybe?

    Hanging Quilt - Maybe?
    on: March 05, 2009, 11:32:37 AM
Hi Everyone, I was lucky enough to attend a quilt show here in VA last weekend and found some beautiful fabrics. There's one fabric that I just can't bear to cut up. I have only attempted one quilt - a baby quilt so far. This quilt was made out of 4' blocks and 1 centerpiece. I don't have a quilt sewing maching so that was the extent of it. Anyhow like I was saying, I can't bear to cut it up so I am researching to find the best way to use this material as a quilt (maybe a hanging one) that I won't need a quilting machine for. I would love to hear your ideas. By the way, the material is a Japanese Koi Fish - with lots of purples and gold (beautiful!).

if you have a sewing machine, you have a quilting machine. when you say quilting machine are you talking about a longarm? you can do whatever you want with this beautiful fabric of yours. just sandwich it together w/a backing and sew some lines and you have a wallhanging.....sounds neat, do you know who makes the fabric?

i do everything on my old singer machine -- no fancy stitches or attachments.  granted, i have to keep it simple, but it works.  you could also consider tying it instead of quilting it -- fast and easy and you can create beautiful effects by varying the placement of the knots and the color yarn/thread you use.  you can also hide the ties so that they function just to keep the thing together and don't interfere with the aesthetics.  i'd play around with some scraps before tackling this fabric that you love so much.

good luck! and post a pic when you're done!
