When it comes to a Denyse Schmidt patchwork block, a square is not always an exact square. Several irregular shapes with not-quite-straight lines are designed to fit together (think of a jigsaw puzzle) to create a somewhat-less-than-perfect square. For this reason, you must arrange your pieces after they have been cut, in precisely the same arrangement as they will be stitched. To make this easier, the text and numerals on the patterns have been designed to be "right reading" in the Ready-Set-Sew position. In other words, the text will always be oriented so that you can read it left to right when the pattern pieces are positioned correctly. Always use the pattern text as a guide to position the pieces.
