A "go-to" pattern

By: ReluctantSewer on 02/18/2011 08:17:28 AM

This may seem weird to say, but I don't love to sew. I prefer to knit.:) But I *do* love to have custom-fitting, unique, high-quality clothes for less than I could buy. Therefore I LOVE Amy Butler's patterns. Having sewn dresses and skirts with the bigger companies' patterns, I love the in-depth nature of the instructions on this pattern and how very little prior knowledge is assumed. I am not a beginner but I think a beginner could sew this skirt and be happy with the experience and the outcome. I did have to make some adjustments to the pattern. The size I made according to my measurements was too big in the high hip and waist. But I only took in the side seam (I tried darts, too, but didn't like it as much) and the fit is great. I found the zipper instructions to be easy—there are very clear drawings that show how to place the zipper for pinning/sewing. I love that this skirt is lined, too. I have made 4 skirts from this pattern and get compliments on them all the time. I highly recommend it!

Great beginner pattern

I have made this skirt 9 times with both lightweight cottons and decor weight fabric. With the exception of the zipper instructions I found it very easy to use, sizes as with any pattern needed tweaking but that is typical. I have not tried the apron overlay version as yet. I will make this one again and again!

good pattern

I had to add darts, the size corresponding to my measurements was way too big at the waist, but after that the skirt fits well. I made 3 with different fabrics, a thick cotton, one in cotton tana lawn and voile, and the last one with quilting cotton. They all fit well.
