FAQs

What kind of fabric is this?
Most of what we sell is what is commonly referred to as "quilters' cotton". It is 100% woven cotton, printed with ink. Some fabrics are lighter or heavier than others, in which case we do our best to descibe the weight of the fabric in the product description. If it doesn't have a description, it is a light- weight cotton, such as you'd find in most fabric stores.

How wide is your fabric?
Most of the prints are 44 or 45 inches wide. The width is listed in each individual product description.

How is the fabric priced?
The price is for one full yard (36 inches) of fabric. In most cases, if you order "1", you'll get a piece of fabric that is 36in. x 44in.

Can I order less than a yard?
Yes, simply enter your quantity as a decimal. (Example: 0.375) The shopping cart will automatically update the price and the weight of the item. (We'd like to remind our international friends to use periods as decimal separators, rather than commas.)

When will my order ship?
Sometimes the same day, often the next day and almost always within 3 business days.

Do you sell wholesale?
No, we don't. We will offer you a discount on orders of 10 continuous yards or more. Email orders@sewmamasew.com for more information.

Do you ship internationally?
Of course! We have lots of crafty customers all around the world! See our shipping page for more information.

I can't check out! It keeps saying it is updating the inventory!
This can be frustrating, so we do apologize. We have the inventory enforced to try to minimize over-selling of products. Sometimes another customer might have the same product in her shopping cart at the same time. Things get stuck in database land. Email us and we'll get you past whatever is tripping up the cart.

Fat quarters or skinny quarters?
If you order .25 yard, you'll get a regular cut--9in. x 44in. We don't usually cut fat quarters.

What happened to the oilcloth and minkee?
We decided to narrow our focus to just cotton fabrics.

I got an email saying there isn't enough of the fabric I ordered. Why?
One of a few different things may have happened:

  1. Our new shopping cart does a pretty good job of accurately adjusting the inventory levels. Our old cart did not track fractional inventory, so fabric that we've had since before April, 2007 might not have the inventory enforced in the system.
  2. Inventory is checked by the system at the time you put an item in your cart, not the time you check out. If you put something in your cart yesterday, but checked out today, someone else might have purchased the same fabric in the interim.
  3. When we get fabric, the manufacturers tell us how much is on a bolt. Sometimes it isn't what they say, but we don't know until we get to the end of the bolt.
  4. We made a mistake.

Whatever the reason, we know you had your heart set on the fabric you ordered, so we are truly sorry. We'll always let you know before we ship that your order is incomplete so you have an opportunity to tell us how to proceed.

Do you have a retail store I can come to?
No, we don't. We work out of a shop in Beaverton,OR. We'd love to have a retail store some day. We'll keep you posted.

Why won't you stuff a flat-rate envelope for me?
Because the USPS is becoming more strict about enforcing the guidelines for flat-rates. Our packages have been refused for having tape on the flap. We've been told that the package must be self-sealing. A little tape on the corners is ok, but not across the flap. Believe us, we know that other stores do it, but our post office won't allow it.

Can I order over the phone?
Some people call us to order over the phone because they don't feel comfortable ordering on the internet. To be fully honest, when you give us your credit card information on the phone, the only way we can process that card is over the internet, so we write down the information and then enter it ourselves. With that in mind, you are welcome to call us to place your order. We just don't want to lead you to believe we are doing it differently.
