We’re busy planning another fun Quilting Month for January! We can’t wait to share the blocks, inspiring quilters, projects and fresh approaches to quilting. Just to whet your quilting appetite, this month we teamed up with Aurifil for a Mini Quilt Challenge! We selected eight readers to create mini quilts with Aurifil’s Simplify Collection, a gorgeous set of thread curated by Camille Roskelley. (Head over to Camille’s Simplify site for absolutely beautiful quilts, info on her latest book and more!) The collection comes in two sizes, both with pretty 50wt cotton colors. (You can get the collections in Camille’s shop.)

We’ll share the mini quilts over the next few days. They are stunning, and really utilize the thread in special ways. The Aurifil Mini Quilt Challengers are:

First up is the talented Geta Grama of Geta’s Quilting Studio, a Romanian quilter who usually tends to gravitate toward neutral threads in her quilting. Geta said it was lots of fun to use the crisp colors of the Simplify threads. She ended up making two mini quilts with her Aurifil collection!

Geta’s first mini quilt was a 20″ x 20″ raw edge appliqué with a feather quilting design. Geta even created a tutorial for the entire process so visit her site for details (the tutorial link is in her mini quilt post).

Geta also quilted this whole cloth flower mini quilt. This really lets the thread shine through! Geta is ready to tackle a full-size quilt with this technique so be sure to stop by Geta’s Quilting Studio for updates.

We’ll be back with more mini quilts throughout the weekend. You can win a Simplify Thread Collection from Aurifil for Giveaway Day. Just head over to the Aurifil blog to comment.
