We have a thrilling line-up of inspirational garment sewists ready to judge our Super Online Sewing Match! Rachel from House of Pinheiro is Brazillian living in the UK, sharing a regular stream of the beautiful clothing she sews via her site and Instagram. Rachel is getting married next week, everybody! Exciting times!

From Rachel: When I was younger I dreamed of being a fashion designer. Just ask my mom, but talk to her in Portuguese; we are Brazilians! Actually, until today mom cannot believe that I make beautiful things well because I was am the most uncoordinated person in the world. My poor Barbie used to wear “avant garde”– read: badly hand stitched clothes. Then life just happened… I became a very busy grown up traveling the world fixing problems for multinationals. On the way, I met an English boy… and we made our home in the UK, in a historical town worthy of famous novels. When I’m not helping creative businesses to grow and be sustainable, I spend my evenings creating a mess on my sewing room whole house.

On House of Pinheiro you will find insights of my creative journey, seasoned with a few glimpses of my personal life. The intention for this blog grows from the love of being creative. I enjoy sharing my experience and encourage others, while showcasing my own work… My blog aim is to be inspirational, friendly and a hub for creatives to join conversations relevant to our creative lives.

Many people are surprised to learn I’m relatively new to sewing. I started at the end of 2009. My sewing skills have grown from local classes to professional pattern drafting. Some of my work has been featured in a range of creative magazines including Crafty, Sewing World, Popular Crafts, Love Sewing and digital media.

I consider myself a sewing fanatic. Having the opportunity to travel the UK to meet other “sewing peeps” with the same passion and interests is one of my favourite perks of our hobby. I have a fabric stash that has outgrown my life expectancy and no will power to stop adding to it.

If anyone makes home sewing glamorous, it’s Rachel. She has an entire wardrobe full of gorgeous garments that fit her perfectly. (Check out her Kollabora page.) We’re a little jealous, but also very inspired by all the wonderful possibilities.  She shares tons of great tips about fabric, tools, and techniques on her blog–it’s a must-read if you’re a garment sewist. We’re thankful that she volunteered to be a judge because we know she’s going to bring a keen eye to the table.
