Round Five is the FINAL round in our Super Online Sewing Match II! Although the kids put their hands over their ears and say, “La, La, La!” if we mention it, fall is right around the corner. We’re looking forward to welcoming some cooler weather with fall sewing, and the Cascade Duffle Coat pattern fits the bill!

The Cascade Duffle Coat from Grainline Studio is our final challenge in the match, and it also means you can now sew any coat to enter the Community Match. Our three finalists are likely busy selecting their perfect coat fabrics right now!

The Cascade Duffle Coat is a fresh take on a classic shape featuring a slight A-line cut, toggle front closure, and a hidden zipper band to keep the coat shut tight against cold weather. The hem of View A hits at the hip while View B’s falls to mid-thigh. Although View A is shown with a collar and View B with a hood, both are interchangeable allowing you to create your own perfect coat. Techniques involved include sewing a straight seam, setting sleeves, attaching a collar or hood, and inserting a lining. Pattern is nested to facilitate cutting between sizes if needed.

Fabric Depot is providing each of the three remaining contestants with a $100 gift certificate, plus individualized support from our friend– and Fabric Depot employee– Teresa Coates. (Remember her awesome Needle Comparison?) Our contestants get personalized support as they track down the best fabric, notions and more for their final project. We can’t wait to see the finished coats!
