Fall gives curvy bodies more to work with than any other season. Fabrics get heavier and drape better, layers add structure, and boots take care of half the outfit. The outfits that hold up through a whole autumn are the ones built on fit rather than on body-shape rules: sweater dresses, wide-leg jeans, tailored trousers, midi skirts, relaxed jackets and boots you can stand in for hours. When I put a fall wardrobe together for someone, I look at how each fabric moves, how reliable the sizing is, and how much structure that person actually likes wearing. Each outfit below comes with shoes, outerwear and the fit detail I'd check first.

Nine Pieces Behind Most of These Looks
Read through the 25 outfits and you'll notice the same pieces showing up again and again. That's deliberate. If you own these nine, you can make well over half of the list without buying much else:
- Dark straight or wide-leg jeans with a waistband that stays put sitting down
- A pair of tailored trousers in a neutral
- A midi skirt with some movement, in satin, denim or a soft woven
- A ribbed sweater dress or wrap dress in a substantial knit
- A longline cardigan
- A blazer sized to fit over a sweater
- A trench or knee-length coat
- Knee-high boots that zip over tights
- Ankle boots or loafers you can walk in all day
Buy the coat and boots in neutrals, since they touch every outfit. Put your color into the knits and skirts, which are cheaper to replace and change the look most. Then add the trend pieces, like faux leather pants or a barn jacket, once the basics are covered.
1. Plus Size Fall Sweater Dress Outfit

On a cold morning, a sweater dress is the quickest way out the door. I go for a ribbed midi with real stretch and recovery. The test is the seat: if the knit bags out there after you sit for ten minutes, it's too thin. Straight, fit-and-flare and gently shaped cuts all work. Opaque tights and knee-high boots make one long line, and a long wool-blend coat adds structure. Chocolate, burgundy, charcoal and deep olive are easy fall colors. If you want a waist, use a stretch belt worn comfortably, not tight.
2. Plus Size Fall Cardigan And Jeans Outfit

A soft cardigan and good jeans are the outfit I'd build first in any fall wardrobe. Start with high-rise straight or slim-straight stretch denim, a fitted crewneck tee or ribbed tank, and a longline cardigan. Watch where the cardigan's hem falls. If it bunches at the hip, the knit is too loose or the length lands wrong, and a slightly longer or denser cardigan hangs straight. Wear it open or button the middle. Loafers make it polished, sneakers casual. Cream, camel, rust and dark denim sit well together, and a thin turtleneck replaces the tee in colder weather.
3. Plus Size Fall Blazer And Wide Leg Jeans Outfit

Wide-leg jeans with a structured blazer make casual clothes look deliberate. The jeans should fit securely at the waist and skim the hips before opening into the leg. A tucked or half-tucked knit balances that volume. The blazer is where I'm strict. It needs room through the upper arms and across the back, because you'll be wearing sweaters under it by November, so try it on over a knit. Pointed ankle boots or platform loafers both work, and the jean hem should sit close to the top of the shoe. A navy, camel, plaid or brown blazer suits medium-wash denim.
4. Plus Size Fall Shacket And Leggings Outfit

A shacket and leggings is the errand-day outfit. Choose thick, opaque leggings with a wide waistband and good recovery, so the knees don't bag by afternoon. A long tee or fine sweater gives as much coverage as you want, and the shacket, oversized in plaid or a solid, adds warmth without a winter coat's weight. Check that it closes across the chest and that you can lift your arms freely. Chunky sneakers or weather-resistant ankle boots, a roomy crossbody and a beanie keep it practical. Black leggings with an olive, rust, camel or cream shacket is an easy pairing.
5. Plus Size Fall Midi Skirt And Sweater Outfit

A flowing midi skirt next to a chunky sweater gives you two textures that play off each other. Pleated, satin, denim or soft woven skirts all work, as long as the waistband stays comfortable sitting down. Pair it with a cropped sweater that meets the waistband or a longer knit with a light front tuck. You get shape without anything tight. Ankle boots with a stable heel and tights handle colder days, and a cropped jacket or tailored coat keeps proportions balanced. A short necklace above the neckline finishes it. Try plum with charcoal, or a print with a sweater pulled from one of its colors.
6. Plus Size Fall Trench Coat And Trousers Outfit

A trench coat pulls together a polished outfit and handles unpredictable weather. Underneath, relaxed tailored trousers and a light turtleneck or smooth knit. Look at the trouser pockets in the mirror: if they pull open at the sides, the trousers are tight across the hips and need the next size. A knee-length trench that closes easily goes on top, and a removable belt lets you tie it, knot it behind you or leave it off. Loafers or block-heel boots depend on the forecast. Khaki is the classic, but navy, olive and burgundy also feel seasonal. A leather tote and printed scarf finish it.
7. Plus Size Fall Denim Jacket And Maxi Dress Outfit

A denim jacket keeps a favorite maxi dress going into fall. Solid, floral or abstract prints all work with heavier accessories. The jacket should end at the natural waist or upper hip; anything longer covers too much of the dress and you lose its shape. Standard denim jackets can be tight across the upper back and arms, so look for stretch, dropped shoulders or a relaxed cut. Ankle boots and a brown, tan or black crossbody ground it. Add a thin tee under the dress or tights for warmth. Deep florals and dark denim feel the most autumnal.
8. Plus Size Fall Leather Jacket And Black Jeans Outfit

A leather or faux leather jacket gives a plain jeans outfit an edge. Start with black straight jeans and a soft tee, fitted turtleneck or light sweater. Fit the moto jacket at the shoulders and upper arms, even if you plan to wear it open, because leather barely stretches and a tight sleeve stays tight. Let the hardware color guide your jewelry, silver with silver, gold with gold. Chelsea boots for every day, heeled ankle boots for sharper moments. A burgundy shoulder bag adds seasonal color against the black. It works for concerts, lunches and city walks.
9. Plus Size Fall Corduroy Pants Outfit

Corduroy pants bring texture and real warmth to a plain outfit. Choose wide, straight or gently tapered cords in olive, rust, camel, chocolate or navy, high-rise if you want to tuck a button-down or fitted knit. A cropped cardigan or denim jacket balances the substantial fabric. Corduroy has a nap that shades lighter or darker depending on how it catches light, and it wears flat on the inner thigh over time, which is normal. Get the hem right for your shoes so it doesn't drag on wet pavement. Loafers, clogs or ankle boots and a leather belt finish it.
10. Plus Size Fall Plaid Pants And Turtleneck Outfit

Plaid pants make work dressing more interesting while staying easy to style. Choose trousers with a smooth front and enough room through the hips and thighs that the plaid lines stay straight. When the fabric strains, the checks bend and that's the first sign the fit is off. Pair them with a solid turtleneck in one of the plaid's quieter colors, such as black, cream, burgundy or forest green. A hip-length blazer adds warmth. Loafers are classic, and pointed ankle boots are dressier. Keep everything else plain, and get the trouser length right, since a hem that breaks too much makes plaid look sloppy.
11. Plus Size Fall Utility Jacket And Joggers Outfit

Joggers can look coordinated when every piece has a reason to be there. Pair tapered knit joggers with a fitted long-sleeve tee or smooth sweatshirt, then add an olive, navy or camel utility jacket with real pockets and an adjustable waist. The jacket should zip without pulling. Clean leather sneakers make it look less like gym wear, and lace-up boots handle damp days. Stick to two or three colors. Black joggers, a cream top and an olive jacket is the easiest version. A nylon crossbody and a cap or beanie finish it.
12. Plus Size Fall Monochrome Brown Outfit

All brown looks rich and is surprisingly easy to put together. Combine chocolate trousers with a cocoa turtleneck and a camel or espresso coat. The shades don't need to match, and the slight differences give depth while letting you use what's already in your closet. Vary the finishes: smooth knit, wool-blend coat, leather accessories. Pointed ankle boots or loafers carry the tone down, and a cognac bag with gold earrings adds warmth. If it feels too uniform, a cream scarf breaks it up. Make sure each layer is visible, because three browns stacked with no shape between them look like one block.
13. Plus Size Fall Denim Shirt Dress Outfit

A denim shirt dress gives you one-piece dressing with the backbone of your favorite jeans. Choose soft denim or chambray, since stiff denim stands away from the bust and hips and adds bulk. A button-front midi can be worn loose, belted or partly unbuttoned over a fitted layer. Check the buttons at the bust while sitting; that's where shirt dresses gape. Knee-high boots look sleek, western ankle boots more relaxed. A cropped suede-look jacket adds another fall texture, and tights or leggings handle colder days. Dark indigo reads polished, medium wash more weekend.
14. Plus Size Fall Puffer Vest And Jeans Outfit

A puffer vest earns its spot in early fall, when mornings are cold and afternoons aren't. Start with straight jeans and a striped long-sleeve tee, thermal or light sweater, then a hip-length vest. Armholes are what I check. A tight armhole cuts into the arm and pushes the sleeve fabric into lumps. A curved or adjustable hem lets the vest sit smoothly when zipped. Weather-resistant sneakers or lace-up boots and a backpack or roomy crossbody keep your hands free. Cream, olive, navy and burgundy vests all suit denim.
15. Plus Size Fall Jumpsuit And Cardigan Outfit

A relaxed jumpsuit with a cardigan is one decision for the whole outfit. Choose wide or straight legs with adjustable straps, stretch or a waist that isn't restrictive, then layer a fitted tee, turtleneck or button-down underneath. Torso length is the deal-breaker. A jumpsuit that's too short in the body pulls at the shoulders and crotch every time you sit, so check it seated before buying. A cropped cardigan marks the waist, a longline one softens the line. Platform sneakers, clogs or ankle boots match the wide leg. Black, olive, rust and denim jumpsuits restyle most easily.
16. Plus Size Fall Slip Skirt And Blazer Outfit

A satin slip skirt with a blazer is soft movement against sharp structure. Choose a midi that glides over the body with a comfortable elastic or part-elastic waist. Satin catches on anything rough, so a smooth tee or fitted bodysuit works better on top than a fuzzy knit. Layer an oversized blazer that falls below the hip and leaves room through the arms. Sneakers keep it daytime, loafers or ankle boots dress it up. Plum, teal and deep red have a rich sheen in satin. For something quieter, try a bronze skirt, cream top and chocolate blazer.
17. Plus Size Fall Tunic And Skinny Jeans Outfit

If you like longer tops, a tunic with skinny jeans is still a practical fall outfit. Pick a tunic with side slits, a curved hem or a soft drape so it moves at the hips instead of tenting. Avoid stiff tunics that balloon away from the body; they add width you didn't ask for. Stretch skinny jeans should fit without digging at the waist. Knee-high boots with tall socks streamline it, and a cropped jacket or open cardigan keeps the tunic hem part of the outfit. Dark denim with a rust, forest green or cream tunic works well.
18. Plus Size Fall Vest And Button Down Outfit

A tailored vest over a button-down is smart without a full suit. The shirt should fit across the bust first; a gaping shirt shows right through the open V of a vest. Add a longline vest, straight or lightly shaped, with dark wide-leg jeans or tailored trousers. Worn open, the vest draws a long vertical line. Buttoned, it defines the waist. Loafers, pointed flats or low block heels, a structured tote for work or slouchy bag for weekends, and rolled cuffs finish it. Black, camel, charcoal and subtle plaid are the easiest vest colors.
19. Plus Size Fall Graphic Tee And Midi Skirt Outfit

A graphic tee can carry into cooler weather with heavier layers around it. Tuck it into a denim, pleated or faux leather midi with a comfortable waistband, and add a cropped cardigan or relaxed blazer. White sneakers keep it casual, ankle boots make it more autumnal. I pull the bag color from the graphic, which makes the whole outfit look planned. A fuller skirt pairs best with a closer-fitting tee, though comfort comes first. Thick cotton tees tuck lumpy, so a thinner jersey tee sits flatter under a waistband. Add tights when it's colder.
20. Plus Size Fall Hoodie And Trench Coat Outfit

A trench over a hoodie is a comfortable street-style outfit for busy days. Start with straight jeans, ponte pants or wide knit trousers, then a smooth hoodie that fits under outerwear without bulky sleeves. Hoodie sleeves are what usually spoil this; thick fleece bunches inside a trench sleeve and makes the coat look a size too small. A knee-length trench adds structure. Leave it open or tie the belt loosely behind. Retro sneakers, a cap and a crossbody close to the body keep it casual. Gray, black, camel and cream are easiest, or put a red or cobalt hoodie under a neutral coat.
21. Plus Size Fall Faux Leather Pants Outfit

Faux leather pants add a sleek finish next to soft knitwear. Look for a straight or gently tapered pair with stretch, a smooth lining and a wide waistband. Pair them with an oversized sweater that ends at the upper hip, or a fitted knit under a long cardigan. Suede ankle boots soften the shine and leather loafers sharpen it. Black is the most versatile, while chocolate, burgundy and dark olive feel less expected. Faux leather doesn't breathe, so I'd pick a cotton or wool top rather than synthetic, and skip extra layers indoors. It suits dinner out or a dressier weekend.
22. Plus Size Fall Wrap Dress And Boots Outfit

A wrap dress adjusts to your shape, which makes it one of the most reliable plus-size pieces I know. Choose a true or faux wrap midi in substantial jersey, crepe or soft knit. If the neckline is too open, a camisole underneath saves you from adjusting it all day. Knee-high boots and a tailored coat polish it, and a pendant follows the V. Rich florals, abstract prints, burgundy, navy and forest green all suit fall. Opaque tights and a thin thermal layer cover cold days. Walk and sit in it first, because a narrow wrap panel flies open at the knee.
23. Plus Size Fall Overalls And Sweater Outfit

Overalls are playful but genuinely practical. Choose denim or corduroy with adjustable straps, side closures that give and enough room in the torso. The torso is the fit point. Too short and the crotch pulls up uncomfortably every time you bend, so lengthen the straps or size up. Layer a striped tee in mild weather or a fitted turtleneck when it's cold, and roll the hems to show lace-up boots, clogs or high-tops. A cropped jacket that ends at the waist keeps the bib visible. Keep the base layer smooth so it doesn't bunch under the bib.
24. Plus Size Fall Knit Set Outfit

A matching knit set feels like loungewear but looks coordinated. Try a sweater with a midi skirt, or a knit top with wide-leg pants. The knit has to hold its shape, and a dense, smooth yarn will pill less on the inner thigh and under the arms. A long tailored coat adds contrast. Leather sneakers keep it casual, loafers or ankle boots make it work for the office or travel. Charcoal, oatmeal, chocolate, navy and burgundy suit fall. If the pieces are sold separately, buy each in the size that fits that piece; plenty of people wear a different size on top and bottom.
25. Plus Size Fall Barn Jacket And Maxi Skirt Outfit

A barn jacket over a maxi skirt is practical outerwear on top of something soft and flowing. Tuck a lightweight sweater into a denim, corduroy or printed maxi, then add the boxy barn jacket with its corduroy collar and patch pockets. Barn jackets are cut roomy so they layer well, but the hem should stop at the upper hip or the jacket fights the skirt's length. Sturdy ankle boots or streamlined sneakers handle walking, and a leather crossbody suits the utilitarian feel. Olive, tan, navy and brown jackets work with cream or patterned skirts. Tights and warm socks go underneath when it cools.
Your Size Changes From Brand to Brand, So Measure
Plus sizing is more inconsistent than straight sizing. The same labeled size can differ noticeably between brands, and even between two cuts from the same brand. I stopped trusting the number on the tag a long time ago, and I'd encourage you to do the same.
- Measure a garment you already love, laid flat, across the bust, waist and hips, and compare those numbers to the product's garment measurements rather than the body size chart.
- Check the fabric content. Anything with elastane or a ponte knit forgives a size difference; rigid denim, leather and woven blazers don't.
- Read the rise and inseam on trousers and jeans. A great waist fit with the wrong rise still won't sit right.
- Order two sizes if a return policy allows it, and keep the one that fits sitting down, not the smaller number.
Brands also cut for different shapes. Some assume a fuller hip, others a fuller stomach or bust. Once you find one whose pattern suits your body, keep a note of which sizes and cuts worked so you can buy with more confidence next season.
Start With the Silhouettes You Already Wear
A fall wardrobe should fit your routine, not the other way round. The outfits above cover weekends, offices, travel, errands and a few dressier plans, and none of them depend on rules about what curvy women should wear. Start with shapes you already like and add seasonal texture through corduroy, denim, knitwear, faux leather and structured coats. Check every piece sitting, walking and layered, not just standing in front of a mirror. Then change the colors, shoes, hemlines and accessories until each formula feels like yours.
