Yoga asks more of your clothes than most workouts. You fold forward, hang upside down, twist and sit cross-legged, and every one of those moves finds the weak spot in a top or a waistband. Plus size ranges have grown, with better cuts and moisture-wicking fabrics that actually fit, but I still test every piece in a pose before I trust it. These 35 outfits cover vinyasa, restorative, hot yoga, outdoor classes and the walk to brunch after savasana, and for each one I've said what to check.

A Five-Pose Fitting Room Test
A yoga piece that looks right standing still can fail in the first sun salutation. I run through five quick moves in the fitting room, or at home with the tags still on, before deciding to keep anything.
- Forward fold, with your back to a mirror in good light. If you can see skin or underwear through the leggings, they'll be sheer in class.
- Downward dog. Watch whether the top slides toward your chin and whether a gap opens at the back of the waistband.
- Arms overhead. A crop top or cropped hoodie shouldn't ride above the bra band.
- A seated twist. Wrap tops and loose necklines show whether they stay closed.
- Cross-legged seat. Check that shorts don't ride up and the waistband doesn't fold over.
If a piece passes all five, it'll probably behave in class. If it fails one, think about which classes you take. A top that slides in down dog is fine for yin, where you barely go upside down.
1. Plus Size High-Waisted Leggings and Sports Bra Yoga Outfit

The best leggings are the ones you stop noticing ten minutes into class. For me that's a pair of high-waisted black leggings in a soft nylon-spandex blend with an extra-high rise, which holds the tummy gently and stays up through downward dog. Nylon blends feel smoother and resist pilling better than cheap polyester ones. A matching medium-support racerback bra frees the shoulders. Grip socks for standing poses and a silver pendant. Throw a denim jacket on after class for errands.
2. Plus Size Matching Yoga Set Outfit

A coordinated set in dusty mauve or sage, a cropped long-sleeve top with high-waisted ⅞ leggings, gives one long line of color. The ⅞ length ends just above the ankle, so it doesn't bunch at the foot in standing poses. I check the crop against the waistband with arms overhead: a small gap of skin is fine, but if the top rides up to the bra line, size up. Four-way stretch and flatlock seams. White platform sneakers and a quilted crossbody for coffee afterward.
3. Plus Size Flare Yoga Pants Outfit

Flare yoga pants hug the thigh and widen below the knee, which balances the hip and gives a retro shape. A split hem lets them move without dragging. The catch is balance poses: a long flare can catch under your heel in tree pose, so I'd have them hemmed to just touch the floor barefoot. A fitted ribbed tank in terracotta keeps the top close. Chunky platform sandals for brunch, gold hoops and an oatmeal cardigan tied at the shoulders for savasana.
4. Plus Size Yoga Shorts and Tank Top Outfit

Heat and summer call for shorts, and an eight-inch inseam is the length I trust for yoga. Shorter ones slide up in wide-legged folds and seated poses. High-rise biker shorts in deep navy or charcoal, then a loose racerback tank in a modal blend that drapes and lets air move. The tank's built-in shelf bra gives light support, enough for a gentle flow. Sport sandals and a wide-brim hat for yoga in the park, with a scrunchie on your wrist for mid-flow hair.
5. Plus Size Long Sleeve Yoga Top and Leggings Outfit

Early practices in a cold room need sleeves, and a fitted mock-neck top in heathered oatmeal is warm without trapping heat once you're moving. Thumbhole cuffs keep the sleeves down in arm balances. A loose sleeve slides toward the elbow in down dog; a fitted one stays put. Full-length high-waisted leggings in mocha brown make an earthy one-color look. Cream studio sneakers for the walk in and a soft knit scarf you can take off as you warm up.
6. Plus Size Yoga Jumpsuit Outfit

A yoga jumpsuit is one piece with nothing to tuck or pull up, and for inversions that's a real advantage. A sleeveless charcoal unitard with a built-in shelf bra and a small keyhole back. Torso length is the fit check: lift your arms and fold forward, and if it pulls at the shoulders or crotch, the torso is too short. A cropped slouchy sweater over it for the warm-up, minimalist slides for the trip in, and a canvas tote for your mat and bottle.
7. Plus Size Yoga Dress Outfit

A yoga dress is a gentle-class option, not a vinyasa one: in a forward fold or inversion, the skirt goes where gravity takes it. For restorative sessions and slow flows, a midi tank dress in heather gray jersey skims without clinging, and a shelf bra with adjustable straps holds lightly. I'd wear bike shorts underneath anyway. A cropped denim jacket over it for the street, sleeves rolled, white low-tops, a long pendant and thin bracelets. Morning yoga into brunch.
8. Plus Size Oversized Hoodie Yoga Outfit

An oversized fleece-lined hoodie is something to wrap up in before and after class, not during. Faded charcoal over high-waisted black capri leggings, zipped halfway to show a magenta sports bra underneath. The roomy top against fitted capris keeps the shape balanced. Black slip-on sneakers, a messy bun with a velvet scrunchie, and a big canvas tote. Cool morning studio sessions or a slow stretch at home on the rug.
9. Plus Size Cardigan Yoga Outfit

A long duster cardigan softens a yoga outfit and lengthens the frame with its open front. Dark olive high-waisted leggings and a matching scoop-neck tank make the base, with a creamy ivory knit duster on top. It comes off as class begins and goes back on after savasana, when your body temperature drops fast. Slide sandals, a fine layered necklace and a leather bracelet. Evening restorative classes and weekend wellness retreats.
10. Plus Size Denim Jacket Yoga Outfit

A slightly oversized, faded medium-blue denim jacket over yoga clothes is the quickest street-ready layer. Underneath: high-waisted black ankle leggings and a white ribbed crop tank. White ribbing goes see-through when damp, so I'd pick a lined or double-layer tank. Roll the cuffs, add black and white low-tops, a faux leather backpack and tortoiseshell sunglasses. A morning power class, then a smoothie with friends.
11. Plus Size Boho Yoga Outfit

Wide-leg organic cotton pants with a fold-over waistband are comfortable for slow and seated practice, and the fold-over band can sit high or low depending on the pose. Cotton holds sweat, so I'd keep them for gentle classes. A crochet-trimmed ivory cami adds texture, and a sheer floral kimono floats over it as you arrive. Leather sandals, a beaded mala, hammered bangles and a silk headband. Beach yoga and sound baths.
12. Plus Size Seamless Yoga Set Outfit

Knit-to-shape sets have almost no sewn seams, which means less chafing and a smooth, close fit. Blush pink, with a cross-back bra and high-waisted ankle leggings in a fine rib. The waistband lies flat and stays put during inversions. Pale pink and light rib can look sheer when stretched, so check it in a deep squat before you buy. A white cropped zip-up and white knit sneakers, a high ponytail and studs. Heated power flows suit it, and the set packs small.
13. Plus Size Ribbed Yoga Set Outfit

Vertical ribs smooth and lengthen, which is why ribbed sets keep selling. A chocolate brown square-neck tank with matching high-waisted ⅞ leggings, the tank with a built-in bra and wide straps that won't dig in. Built-in bras give light support, fine for yoga and barre but not for a fuller bust in a jumping class. A cream cropped puffer vest if the studio is cold, chunky white sneakers, gold hoops and a black puffer tote. Winter workshops and afternoon barre.
14. Plus Size Printed Leggings Yoga Outfit

Printed leggings, a moody floral or abstract watercolor in navy, teal and plum, let the bottom half do the talking. Prints also hide small sweat marks and the shine that appears on worn leggings. High-waisted and full-length, with a solid black longline sports bra for full coverage and medium support. A drapey black open vest adds movement without competing. Black slides, a black headband and a matte black bottle. Any practice where you want something expressive but covered.
15. Plus Size Solid Leggings and Printed Top Yoga Outfit

Flip it the other way: solid black high-waisted capris with a hidden key pocket, and a printed performance tank in coral, pink and gold brushstrokes doing the color. A racerback cut shows off the shoulders. I tuck the front of the tank in so it doesn't fall toward my face in down dog. A light black zip-up track jacket for the warm-up, white studio sneakers, a sporty watch and a coral scrunchie that ties the colors together. It suits any style of class.
16. Plus Size Monochrome Yoga Outfit

All gray from head to toe reads calm and considered. Marled high-waisted leggings, a matching oversized crewneck sweatshirt pushed up at the sleeves and slipped off one shoulder over a charcoal bralette. Different grays in different textures give depth. The sweatshirt comes off for practice; it's warm for anything faster than yin. Gray knit sneakers, a gray beanie and a gray mat under your arm. Gentle morning stretch and meditative yin.
17. Plus Size Color Block Yoga Outfit

Color-blocked leggings with a diagonal panel of periwinkle and deep navy draw the eye in a long line, which is why I like the diagonal more than a straight horizontal block. A solid periwinkle crop top repeats the lighter shade. A white zip-up hoodie tied at the waist adds a third color and coverage. White platform sneakers and sporty white sunglasses, and a bright blue mat if you want it to match. Upbeat power yoga or an outdoor class.
18. Plus Size Neon Yoga Outfit

Electric lime leggings are bright enough to wake you up before class. High-waisted, opaque, ideally with a matte finish so the color doesn't look shiny. A black strappy-backed sports bra calms the top half and gives real support. A black mesh cover-up tied at the hips for the walk in, black platform sandals, a phone armband and black geometric earrings. Hot yoga and dance-fusion flows, where the energy matches the color.
19. Plus Size Earthy Tone Yoga Outfit

Cinnamon leggings and an ochre cropped tank sit together like sand and sunset, and warm mid-tones flatter more skin tones than pastel. An olive utility jacket over the shoulders for savasana, tan woven slides and a thin gold anklet. A wooden bead bracelet and clay pendant add natural texture. I'd check the cinnamon leggings in daylight for opacity; mid-tones can thin at the knee faster than black. Outdoor yoga under trees or a slow evening flow on the deck.
20. Plus Size Pastel Yoga Outfit

Lilac high-waisted leggings and a matching strappy-back bra in a velvety matte finish look soft and sweet. Matte fabric hides small sweat marks better than shiny pastels do. A sheer white cropped hoodie over the top, white slides, a mini lavender backpack and a pearl hair clip. For prenatal yoga, the high waistband needs to be soft and wide so it can sit under or over the bump comfortably. Morning vinyasa, prenatal classes and gentle stretch.
21. Plus Size High Neck Yoga Top Outfit

A high-neck sleeveless top with a racerback and built-in shelf bra keeps everything covered when you're upside down, which is why it's my pick for inversion-heavy classes. Charcoal high-waisted leggings with mesh panels along the calves let heat escape. Black knit sneakers, a structured black cap, a black smartwatch and a slim backpack keep it minimal. Vigorous flow classes, then coffee afterward.
22. Plus Size Racerback Tank Yoga Outfit

A racerback tank frees the shoulder blades, and that's what you need in chaturanga and arm balances. I like a slightly loose one in heathered mauve with a curved hem that's longer at the back for coverage. Tuck just the front into high-waisted black ⅞ leggings to mark the waist and stop the tank flipping up. Light knit slip-ons in beige, a rose gold tracker and rose gold studs, and the mat in a gray carrier. It works for any flow style.
23. Plus Size Off Shoulder Yoga Top Outfit

Off-the-shoulder yoga tops need a wide, soft jersey neckline that stays where you put it. Heathered charcoal, pulled up for more coverage or draped across the shoulders. This one is for slow classes; in a vinyasa, it will slide every time you go into down dog. High-waisted burgundy leggings add deep color. Black ballet flats, a thin scarf looped loosely, a gold cuff and a low chignon. Candlelit restorative classes or a quiet practice at home.
24. Plus Size Wrap Top Yoga Outfit

A wrap top lets you set the waist and the depth of the V. Heathered navy stretch jersey, tied at the side. In forward folds, a wrap can fall open, so I tie it snugly and wear a sports bra in a matching shade underneath. High-waisted charcoal capris with a wide compression waistband that stays flat during twists. Light gray knit sneakers, a silver chain sitting just above the neckline, and a navy claw clip. Gentle flow and beginner hatha classes.
25. Plus Size Cropped Hoodie Yoga Outfit

A cropped zip-up hoodie warms the core while still showing your shape. Cream French terry over a black high-neck sports bra, ending at the natural waist so it meets high-waisted black leggings with only a sliver of skin. Cream terry shows makeup and sweat at the collar, so it's a before-and-after layer. White ankle socks above black and white sneakers and a quilted belt bag worn crossbody. Early studio sessions or the walk to outdoor yoga.
26. Plus Size Arm Warmers Yoga Outfit

Arm warmers are a small trick for cool weather: they keep the forearms warm on the walk in and through a slow warm-up, then peel off without taking anything over your head. I wear ribbed knit arm warmers in charcoal from wrist to elbow over a black longline bra and high-waisted midnight blue leggings. Thin black slip-ons, a thin black headband and a small silver stud. Autumn practice by the window or a cool outdoor class.
27. Plus Size Yoga Outfit with Headband

A wide knit headband keeps hair off your face through every fold and gives the outfit a retro athletic look. A marled cream and teal band with a deep teal set: scoop-neck tank and high-waisted ankle leggings. Knit headbands get warm, so for hot classes I'd swap to a thin wicking band. White canvas sneakers and a cream zip-up hoodie left open over the tank. A wooden bead bracelet. A weekend flow at the studio, then the farmers market.
28. Plus Size Hot Yoga Outfit

Hot yoga punishes cotton and anything loose. Black high-waisted four-inch compression shorts that wick fast and stay put, and a matching longline sports bra with a mesh racerback for ventilation. The longline cut stays put through twists. Hands and feet slip on a sweaty mat, so a grippy towel over the mat matters more than any piece of clothing. A microfiber headband, studio flip-flops and a big water bottle. It lets you move through a sweaty power flow without adjusting a thing.
29. Plus Size Restorative Yoga Outfit

Restorative and yin classes keep you still for minutes at a time, and your body cools fast. Bamboo-knit lounge joggers in heathered gray with a soft waistband that doesn't dig in when you lie down. An oversized cream V-neck sweater over a racerback bralette. Thick knit socks with grip dots for floor poses, and a chunky blanket scarf for final relaxation. I'd skip anything with a hard zipper or toggles that presses into you when you lie on the floor.
30. Plus Size Outdoor Yoga Outfit

Outdoor practice means sun, breeze and uneven ground. High-waisted cropped leggings in faded olive with side pockets for your phone, and a breezy cotton gauze shirt worn open over a fitted black tank, sleeves rolled and front loosely knotted. The open shirt covers shoulders and arms from the sun. Sport sandals for the walk over grass, a wide-brim straw hat, tortoiseshell sunglasses and plenty of mineral sunscreen. A sun salutation under the actual sun.
31. Plus Size Winter Yoga Outfit

Winter yoga starts with the trip to the studio. A thin thermal long-sleeve top tucked into high-waisted fleece-lined leggings, chunky knit leg warmers on top, a beanie and a cream quilted puffer vest for the core. Insulated snow boots get you there, then swap to grip socks once you arrive. Fleece-lined leggings get hot once you're flowing, so for a vigorous class I'd keep them for the commute and change. A knit scarf and touchscreen gloves. Winter mornings and cold-weather retreats.
32. Plus Size Summer Yoga Outfit

In summer heat I want fabric that dries fast and keeps the sun off. A coral racerback tank in quick-dry recycled polyester with UV protection, and loose high-waisted yoga shorts in a linen blend that move freely and cover the thigh. Strappy minimal sandals, a woven straw tote with a cold water bottle and a silk scarf in the ponytail. SPF lip balm for outdoor classes. Rooftop yoga and beach flows.
33. Plus Size Travel Yoga Outfit

On a travel day, one outfit has to cover the plane and the mat. Flared travel trousers in wrinkle-resistant black jersey with a hidden elastic waist, and a dusty blue long-sleeve wrap top you can adjust for coverage. A packable puffer that folds into its own pouch. Jersey stretches enough to sit cross-legged in a plane seat, which is why I prefer it to woven travel pants. White leather sneakers and a big nylon tote with a shoe compartment for the mat.
34. Plus Size Studio to Street Yoga Outfit

Matte black faux leather leggings, a white long-sleeve crewneck tucked at the front and a tailored camel blazer take you from class to brunch. The faux leather is for the street half; it doesn't breathe, so I'd do the practice in regular leggings and change. White leather court sneakers, a structured black tote, gold hoops and red lipstick. Take the blazer off and you're still dressed for the city.
35. Plus Size Beginner Yoga Outfit

For a first class, comfort and coverage let you stop thinking about your clothes. Classic black high-waisted full-length leggings with gentle compression that stay opaque in a forward fold. A relaxed heather gray V-neck tee that covers the hips; tuck the front hem into the waistband so it doesn't fall over your face in down dog. A built-in shelf bra gives light support for gentle classes. Cushioned studio sneakers, a thin cotton headscarf and a zippered tote with your mat, bottle and small towel.
Hot, Flow or Yin: Fabrics for Each Class
The kind of yoga you do changes what you should wear more than the season does. These are the pairings I'd suggest:
- Hot yoga: quick-dry synthetics only, compression shorts or capris, a bra with mesh ventilation. No cotton, which turns heavy and slippery.
- Vinyasa and power flow: leggings with a firm, high waistband, fitted tops that stay put upside down, and a bra with medium support.
- Yin and restorative: soft, loose, warm layers and grip socks. Comfort when lying still matters more than compression.
- Outdoor classes: sun cover for shoulders, pockets you can zip, and shoes for walking across grass to your spot.
If you take mixed classes in a week, a pair of black high-waisted leggings and a fitted top that passes the down-dog test will cover nearly all of them. Add a warm layer for the start and end of class, and you have a working yoga wardrobe.
One more thing that catches people out: slippery fabric on a slippery mat. Very smooth, shiny leggings can slide on the mat in wide-legged poses and seated twists, and loose long sleeves slip when your hands press down. A matte, slightly brushed finish grips better. If your hands sweat, a towel laid over the mat helps more than any change of clothes.
Wear What You Forget About on the Mat
A yoga wardrobe that fits doesn't need many pieces. What matters is how each one behaves in a pose: leggings that stay opaque in a fold, a waistband that stays up through inversions, a top that doesn't slide to your chin. Bold prints, pastels, monochrome or layers all work once that's sorted. Buy fabric with good stretch and recovery, mix separates freely, and wear the outfit that lets you forget about it once you're on the mat.
