Toy Story is one of the kindest themes I know for a group, because almost every character is built from a single strong colour and one or two odd details. Woody is yellow plaid and cow print, Buzz is white with lime and purple, the aliens are blue with three eyes. That means a crew of three or a crew of twelve can be dressed mostly from closets and thrift racks, with felt, cardboard and a few hats doing the heavy lifting. The cast is also big enough to cover the carnival prizes and Bonnie's later toys, so nobody gets stuck as a fourth Woody. Below are 35 lineups, each described head to toe, with notes on what I'd make, what I'd skip and where these costumes tend to fall apart.

Casting Your Group Before Anyone Buys a Wig
The first thing I do with any Toy Story group is cast it, before a single piece is bought. Woody and Buzz are the anchors; once those two are standing in the middle, people will read every other toy correctly, even the obscure ones. Without them, a Ducky and a Bunny can look like a random duck and rabbit.
- Give Woody to the person happiest in a hat all night, since the hat is most of the character.
- Give Buzz to someone who can cope with wings, which bump into chairs, doorways and other people.
- Rex, Hamm and the aliens are hoodie-based, so they suit the people who want to be comfortable and warm.
- Jessie and Bo Peep both need a wig or styled hair, so check who is willing before you assign them.
- Extra people who join late become aliens or Green Army Men; both need almost no sewing.
Height matters too. Rex and Bullseye read well on tall people, while Forky and the aliens are funnier on someone small. It's a small thing, but it's what makes a group photo look cast rather than just dressed.
1. Woody, Buzz, And Jessie Toy Story Group Costume

This is the trio everyone reads in half a second. Woody wears a yellow plaid shirt, cow-print vest, jeans, red bandanna, cowboy hat and brown boots, with tidy hair and a handmade sheriff badge. Buzz takes white pants and a white top with green and purple felt panels, purple headwear and white sneakers or boot covers; I'd skip the bulky helmet and draw a few clean graphic lines on the face instead, because a dome steams up and blocks hearing. Jessie gets a white western shirt with yellow panels, jeans or cow-print chaps, a red braided wig, red hat and boots, plus rosy cheeks and freckles. Put Woody in the middle so the western half and the space half balance either side of him.
2. Woody, Buzz, And Bo Peep Toy Story Group Costume

Swapping Jessie for Bo Peep brings a pastel note into the yellow and white. Woody stays in his plaid shirt, cow-print vest, jeans, hat, bandanna and boots. Buzz can go with a white jumpsuit or separates, lime and purple foam details, a fitted purple hood and white sneakers. Bo wears a light blue jumpsuit, pink sash and cape, black flats or ankle boots, and a blonde side ponytail, with pink lips and soft eyes. Her staff is a lightweight cardboard tube wrapped in white paper; I bend a crook from a wire hanger taped inside the top so it doesn't flop by the end of the night. A little repeated blue across all three ties the photo together.
3. Woody, Jessie, And Bullseye Toy Story Group Costume

An all-western trio is the easiest lineup on this list to pull from thrift racks, since plaid shirts, jeans and boots are always there. Woody gets the yellow plaid, cow-print vest, red bandanna, hat and brown boots. Jessie wears a white western shirt with yellow cuffs, jeans with cow-print panels, a red hat, braided red wig and boots she can actually walk in, with freckles and blush. Bullseye is a brown hoodie and joggers with a tan belly panel, felt ears, yarn mane, fabric tail, brown sneakers and a dab of brown on the nose. A small saddle-shaped panel tied at the waist makes him read as a horse rather than a bear. I like this for two adults and one child, because the kid gets the comfiest costume.
4. Buzz And Green Aliens Toy Story Group Costume

One Buzz plus a pile of aliens is the most expandable idea here: anyone who shows up late just becomes another alien. Buzz wears white pants and a long-sleeve white top with lime, purple, red and blue felt control-panel details, a purple hood, cardboard wings, light space makeup and white shoes. The aliens wear royal blue shirts or dresses, green leggings, blue sneakers and purple belts. I'd use green beanies or face-framing hoods instead of full green face paint, which smears onto every hug and collar. Three felt eyes and pipe-cleaner antennae go on each hat, a round cardboard planet badge sits on the chest, and soft claw shapes or toy-box signs give their hands something to do.
5. Mr. And Mrs. Potato Head With Hamm Group Costume

The Potato Heads and Hamm are the funny option, and they reward a bit of sewing. Mr. Potato Head wears an oversized brown shirt with removable felt eyes, brows, nose, moustache, ears and mouth, plus a black bowler, white sleeves and blue shoes, with his hair tucked under the hat. Attach those features with hook-and-loop dots rather than glue; then you can rearrange the face for a laugh, which is the whole joke of the toy. Mrs. Potato Head uses the same brown base with red lips, long felt lashes, pink ears, a white hat, yellow accessories and red or pink shoes. Hamm is a pink sweatshirt and joggers with a curly tail, pig-ear headband, pink sneakers and a cardboard coin slot on the back. A little loose stuffing inside the shirts rounds out the bodies without anything rigid.
6. Woody, Buzz, Rex, And Slinky Dog Group Costume

Four people, two heroes and two animal toys. Woody wears his yellow plaid, cow-print vest, jeans, bandanna, hat and boots; Buzz has white separates with lime and purple panels, a fitted hood, cardboard wings and white sneakers. Rex is a green hoodie and joggers with a lighter belly panel, felt spikes, a padded tail, green shoes and a touch of green at the temples. Slinky Dog wears brown with floppy felt ears, a black nose and brown sneakers. His coil is the tricky part: a dryer-vent duct or a ring of craft foam bands joined between front and back waist panels holds its shape far better than a real metal spring, which tangles and pinches. Keep the animal makeup to a nose and a few marks so it comes off with one wipe.
7. Classic Toy Story Cast Group Costume

For a big crew, combine Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bo Peep, Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog and both Potato Heads, and lean hard on each character's strongest colours: yellow and cow print for the cowboys, white and lime for Buzz, blue and pink for Bo, green for Rex, brown or pink for the round toys. Then add the hats, wigs, ears, tails, foam facial pieces and light props. Footwear can be whatever each person tolerates, from cowboy boots to coloured trainers. The thing I watch with eight or more people is that nobody's costume is all pale neutrals, because in a crowd those people vanish. Keep makeup simple and matched in finish, and put taller characters behind the rounded ones for photos.
8. Toy Story 4 Road Trip Group Costume

The Toy Story 4 road-trip gang is a good pick if your group has seen the classic trio done too often. Woody keeps his western layers, and Bo wears a pale blue jumpsuit, pink sash, cape, blonde side ponytail and black boots. Forky is white with red yarn trim, mismatched craft-stick shoe covers, a red pipe-cleaner headband and a rainbow chest detail. Duke Caboom wears a white jumpsuit with red maple-leaf graphics, a cape, white boots, a helmet and a brushed-up brown moustache. Giggle McDimples needs a small-looking blue uniform from a fitted dress or matching separates, a blue cap, blue shoes and bright pink hair. Every one of those silhouettes is different, so nobody gets mistaken for anyone else.
9. Bo Peep, Giggle McDimples, Ducky, And Bunny Costume

This bright four is my choice for a daytime party, because the colours carry well outdoors. Bo Peep wears a pale blue jumpsuit, pink sash, short cape, black boots and a blonde side ponytail, with soft pink makeup and a light staff. Giggle McDimples has a blue uniform-style dress or trouser set, blue cap, matching shoes and a vivid pink bob wig. Ducky is a yellow hoodie and joggers with an orange beak headband, small wings, orange sneakers and warm yellow eye makeup; Bunny is blue with a green belly, long blue ears, green face accents and blue sneakers. Sew fabric carnival loops onto Ducky's and Bunny's backs. Bunny's ears droop by mid-evening unless you slide a pipe cleaner or a strip of plastic boning inside each one.
10. Lotso, Ken, Barbie, And Big Baby Group Costume

The Sunnyside daycare group runs from sweet to slightly sinister. Lotso wears a pink fuzzy hoodie and joggers, cream belly panel, bear-ear headband, pink sneakers and berry cheek colour. Ken goes with a light blue short-sleeve shirt, patterned neck scarf, belted shorts, loafers and carefully styled blond hair; he is the costume people volunteer for, so give it to someone who will commit to the bit. Barbie wears a bright workout-style bodysuit over leggings, leg warmers, sneakers, a high ponytail and fresh pink makeup. Big Baby wears an oversized pastel romper over neutral leggings, a soft bonnet, white shoes and exaggerated rosy cheeks. Skip the full baby mask, which is hot and a little unsettling up close. Matching daycare name tags pull these four very different outfits into one story.
11. Toy Story Villains Group Costume

A villains lineup of Sid, Stinky Pete, Lotso and Emperor Zurg can stay playful rather than scary. Sid wears a black skull-print T-shirt, jeans, black sneakers, short dark hair and lightly smudged eyes, and carries a battered cardboard toy box. Stinky Pete has denim overalls, a red shirt, yellow neckerchief, brown hat, grey beard, boots and a foam pick-shaped sign on his back. Lotso uses the pink bear look with cream details and berry makeup. Zurg is purple tunic and trousers under red and silver foam armour, a structured cape, purple boots and a light helmet. Zurg is the one I'd start weeks ahead, because EVA foam armour needs heat-shaping and primer before paint, or the paint cracks the first time it flexes. Leave every face visible.
12. Andy’s Room Toy Story Group Costume

Andy's room is the original movie in one lineup: Woody, Buzz, Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog and a green alien. Give each person a plain base in the character's palette, then add the identifiers: Woody's hat and vest, Buzz's foam control panel and wings, Rex's felt spikes and tail, Hamm's ears and coin slot, Slinky's ears and coil. The alien wears blue, green leggings, a three-eyed hat, antennae and purple trim. Boots for Woody, white sneakers for Buzz and colour-matched trainers for the rest keep everyone mobile. If you're photographing at home, a blue sheet with white paper clouds pinned to it makes the scene; it's cheap, and I think it does more for the picture than any extra prop.
13. Bonnie’s Toys Group Costume

Bonnie's toys are for a group who want people to look twice. Forky wears white with red yarn trim, a rainbow chest graphic, a pipe-cleaner headband and mismatched shoe covers. Dolly needs a blue dress, a yellow yarn wig, rosy cheeks, striped leggings and black Mary Janes. Trixie is a bright blue hoodie and joggers with purple spots, felt spikes, a tail and blue sneakers. Buttercup wears a white sweatshirt and trousers with a gold horn, pink mane and tail, heart details and white shoes, and Mr. Pricklepants takes brown lederhosen-style layers, a green felt spiked hood, round glasses and brown boots. Yarn wigs are easy to make on a stretch headband base but they shed lint on dark clothes, so sew the strands down rather than gluing them. Name tags help, because these are the deep cuts.
14. Green Army Men Toy Story Group Costume

Green Army Men are the easiest large-group idea here because everyone follows one formula. Green utility shirts, cargo pants, belts, gloves and comfortable boots or sneakers covered in green fabric, plus green helmets with all hair tucked under. The hard part is the shade: greens from different shops never match, so I'd have one person buy every top in the same batch, or dye a mixed pile together in one bath. Use washable green makeup lightly on the face and neck and keep it away from the eyes. Skip weapon props; binoculars, walkie-talkies, maps or a flat cardboard base strapped to the shoes like the plastic stand on the toys read better anyway. Everyone holds a different frozen pose.
15. Three Green Aliens Toy Story Group Costume

Three identical aliens are a sweet choice for siblings or a small family, and nobody has to be the lead. Each wears a royal blue dress, sweatshirt set or jumpsuit with a purple belt and green collar, green tights or leggings and blue or green sneakers. The three-eyed hats come from green beanies, felt circles and black fabric pupils, with pipe-cleaner antennae stitched through the crown. Felt eyes stuck on with craft glue tend to pop off a stretchy knit hat, so I stitch around each one by hand. Keep green makeup to the cheeks and temples with a pale shimmer around the eyes, add a planet patch on each chest, and let one person carry a silver cardboard claw while the others hold small rockets or stars.
16. Woody’s Roundup Group Costume

Woody's Roundup is the old TV show crew: Woody, Jessie, Bullseye and Stinky Pete. Woody wears the yellow plaid, cow-print vest, jeans, bandanna, hat and brown boots; Jessie wears a white western shirt with yellow trim, cow-print chaps, braided red wig, red hat, freckles and boots. Bullseye is the brown hoodie set with felt ears, mane, tail, tan belly and brown sneakers, and Stinky Pete wears denim overalls, a red shirt, yellow scarf, brown hat, grey beard and sturdy boots. A cardboard TV-frame prop for photos fits the theme well. Keep makeup warm and natural rather than heavily weathered, because grey contour on Pete looks muddy in flash photos. Cow print and repeated red do the tying together.
17. Buzz, Zurg, And Aliens Space Group Costume

A full space team is Buzz, Emperor Zurg and two or more aliens. Buzz wears white pants and top with lime green armour panels, purple accents, cardboard wings, a fitted hood and white shoes. Zurg wears purple under red and silver foam armour with a structured cape, purple boots and a helmet open at the face, plus angular purple eye makeup in place of a mask. The aliens take blue tops, green leggings, purple belts, three-eyed beanies, antennae and blue sneakers, with soft planet and rocket props. Purple on every costume links them. A tip from building capes: cut Zurg's from a stiff fabric like felt or interfaced cotton, because a floppy satin cape just hangs and loses that wide villain shoulder line.
18. Bo Peep And Sheep Group Costume

Bo Peep and her sheep is one of the gentlest group ideas on the list, good for family events and school. Bo wears a pale blue jumpsuit or dress, pink sash, cape, black ankle boots and a blonde side ponytail, with soft pink lipstick, blush and a light white staff. The sheep wear cream sweatshirts and joggers covered in cotton-like fabric clusters, grey or black leggings, comfortable sneakers and soft-eared headbands, with pale faces and small grey noses. Cotton balls glued on look right for an hour and then fall off everywhere; cream sherpa or bouclé fabric cut into clouds and stitched down lasts all night. Give each sheep a different ribbon colour, and a fourth friend can join as Giggle McDimples.
19. Sunnyside Daycare Toys Group Costume

Chatter Telephone, Bookworm, Stretch, Chunk and Twitch make a group almost nobody else will have. Chatter Telephone wears red and blue with a cardboard rotary dial, phone-receiver headband and red sneakers. Bookworm uses green clothing, round glasses, a green hood with antennae, a small fabric book and green shoes. Stretch needs a glittery purple dress or jumpsuit, soft tentacle sleeves, purple makeup and flexible flats. Chunk wears an orange padded top over a blue lower half with a reversible happy-or-angry face badge and sturdy sneakers. Twitch takes green athletic wear, purple wings, bug antennae and green shoes. Glitter fabric sheds onto everyone standing near it, so I'd put Stretch at the end of the lineup. Bright foam details help strangers place these lesser-known toys.
20. Duke Caboom, Forky, Ducky, And Bunny Costume

The carnival lineup of Duke Caboom, Forky, Ducky and Bunny is all bold colour and completely different shapes. Duke wears a white jumpsuit with red graphics, a flowing cape, white boots, a helmet and a carefully shaped brown moustache. Forky wears white separates with red yarn around the face, a rainbow chest decoration, red pipe-cleaner arms and craft-stick shoe covers. Ducky is the yellow hoodie set with soft wings, orange beak headband, orange sneakers and sunny makeup; Bunny is blue with a green belly, long ears, green gloves, blue shoes and matching face accents. Fabric loops on Ducky and Bunny suggest the prize wall. Draw Duke's moustache with a brow pencil and set it with powder; the stick-on kind lifts at the corners once you start talking and eating.
21. Pizza Planet Toy Story Group Costume

Pizza Planet turns a few friends into a restaurant scene: one delivery worker, two green aliens and Buzz. The worker wears a red cap, red-and-white polo, black trousers, sneakers and a handmade planet delivery badge, with hair tucked up and clean natural makeup. The aliens wear blue tops, green leggings, purple belts, antenna headbands, three-eyed hats and blue sneakers, and Buzz wears white separates with lime and purple panels, a purple hood, cardboard wings and white shoes. Empty pizza boxes decorated with your own planets and stars make the props. Red accents across every outfit pull it together. I suggest this for office groups because nothing here stops you sitting at a desk or typing.
22. Claw Machine Alien Group Costume

The claw machine adds a working gag to an alien group. Three or more people wear blue sweatshirts or dresses, green leggings, purple belts, blue sneakers and three-eyed green beanies with antennae, with green cheek accents and silver eye shimmer. One person becomes the claw in silver top, trousers and shoes with a light three-pronged cardboard headpiece, and another plays the operator in a red cap, bright uniform shirt, black trousers and sneakers. Portable blue cardboard panels with stars and clear cellophane frame the scene. Keep the panels hand-held and never build anyone inside the box; cardboard walls catch on doorframes and people in a crowded room. Every person has a defined role, which helps the shy ones.
23. Easy Toy Story Teacher Group Costume

Teachers need costumes they can sit, kneel and supervise in all day, and this cast suits that. Woody gets a yellow plaid shirt, cow-print vest, red scarf, cowboy hat and boots. Buzz wears a white sweatshirt with green and purple felt panels, white trousers and sneakers. Jessie uses a white shirt with yellow paper cuffs, jeans, a red hat, braided wig and freckles. Bo Peep goes with light blue trousers and blouse, a pink belt, blonde ponytail and black flats, and an alien wears a blue dress, green leggings, a three-eyed headband and sneakers. I'd swap the paper cuffs for felt, since paper tears by lunch. Props should be soft, and printed character badges help the youngest children get it.
24. Toy Story Family Of Four Group Costume

A family of four splits neatly into Woody, Jessie, Buzz and an alien. One adult takes Woody's plaid shirt, vest, jeans, hat, bandanna and boots; the other is Jessie in a white western top, cow-print details, jeans, red hat, red braid, freckles and comfortable boots. An older child wears Buzz's white, lime and purple costume with soft foam wings and sneakers, and the youngest is the alien in blue, green leggings, a three-eyed beanie, antennae and supportive shoes. Foam wings need to come off quickly in a car seat, so I attach them to elastic shoulder straps rather than sewing them to the shirt. Parents end up carrying every prop by the second street, so keep them light.
25. Toy Story Family Of Five With Baby Costume

Five with a baby: Woody, Bo Peep, Buzz, Jessie and a baby alien. Woody and Jessie wear coordinated western clothes with cowboy hats, red accents, jeans and boots, Bo Peep adds the pale blue jumpsuit, pink cape, blonde ponytail, black shoes and a light staff, and Buzz wears white separates with lime and purple felt panels, soft wings and white sneakers. The baby wears a cosy blue romper over green leggings with a soft three-eyed hat and flexible booties. No face paint on the baby; the hat and colours are enough, and the antennae should be felt rather than pipe cleaner so there are no wire ends near a face. Put the baby in the middle for the photo.
26. Toy Story Friends Group Costume For Six

Six friends can split into Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bo Peep, Rex and Hamm. The cowboys wear plaid, cow print, jeans, hats, red details and brown boots. Buzz brings white, lime and purple with foam armour, wings, a hood and sneakers. Bo Peep softens the palette with a blue jumpsuit, pink cape, blonde ponytail, staff and black boots. Rex wears a green hoodie set with purple spots, felt spikes, a tail, green makeup accents and matching shoes, and Hamm wears pink with pig ears, a curly tail, a cardboard coin slot and pink sneakers. Let each person pick their own fit within the colours; a friend who hates hoodies can be Rex in a green dress. Blue repeated across all six keeps it reading as one group.
27. Toy Story Kids Group Costume

For a kids' group of Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Rex, Slinky Dog and an alien, every costume should start with soft shirts, leggings or joggers and sneakers. Woody and Jessie get light hats, bandannas, felt vests and cow-print details; Buzz has a printed or handmade foam control panel, soft wings and a purple hood. Rex has felt spikes and a lightly stuffed tail, and Slinky's coil should be fabric, not metal. The alien wears a padded three-eyed hat with antennae. Children pull off anything itchy or hot within the first twenty minutes, so test every hat and tail at home first. Keep makeup to freckles, cheeks or a small washable mark, and leave out long capes and rigid props that trip them on steps.
28. Toy Story Women’s Group Costume

An all-women lineup of Jessie, Bo Peep, Barbie, Dolly, Giggle McDimples and a green alien covers nearly the whole colour wheel. Jessie wears western separates, cow print, a red hat, braided wig, freckles and boots. Bo chooses a fitted blue jumpsuit, pink cape, blonde ponytail and black ankle boots. Barbie layers a bright athletic bodysuit with leggings, leg warmers, coloured sneakers, a high ponytail and pink makeup. Dolly wears a blue dress, yellow yarn wig, striped tights, rosy cheeks and Mary Janes, Giggle has a small-looking blue uniform, cap, pink bob and blue shoes, and the alien finishes in blue and green with a three-eyed headband. Two synthetic wigs side by side often clash in shine; a light dusting of dry shampoo dulls the plastic look on both.
29. Toy Story Men’s Group Costume

An all-men group of Woody, Buzz, Rex, Hamm, Duke Caboom and Ken is mostly sweats and separates, which most men will happily wear. Woody brings plaid, denim, a cow-print vest, cowboy hat, red bandanna and boots. Buzz is a white, green and purple space suit built from separates, foam panels, a hood and white sneakers. Rex takes green sweats with felt spikes and a tail, Hamm a pink sweatshirt set with ears, curled tail, coin slot and pink shoes. Duke wears a white jumpsuit with red details, cape, helmet, boots and a styled moustache, and Ken a pastel shirt, patterned scarf, belted shorts, loafers and neat blond hair. Ken in shorts on a cold night is a real problem; nude tights under the shorts are an old stage trick that nobody spots.
30. Plus Size Toy Story Group Costume

This theme adapts well for plus-size groups because it runs on colour blocking, not tight suits. For Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bo Peep and Lotso, build each look from separates that already fit well. Woody and Jessie layer breathable western shirts, stretch jeans, vests, hats and supportive boots. Buzz wears white trousers and a soft white top with felt panels, sneakers and light wings, and Bo Peep can wear a blue jumpsuit or a wide-leg trouser set with the pink cape and black boots. Lotso is a pink hoodie and joggers with a cream belly, bear ears and pink sneakers. I'd steer away from packaged one-piece jumpsuits here; their sizing tends to run small and short in the body, and a sewn felt panel on your own top fits far better.
31. Last-Minute Toy Story Group Costume

When it's the night before, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and an alien can come straight out of the closet. Woody is a yellow shirt, jeans, brown shoes, a red scarf and any neutral cowboy hat. Jessie wears a white button-down, jeans, boots, a red hat and cow-print paper panels on the legs. Buzz is white sweats with green and purple paper or felt shapes on the chest, white sneakers and a purple beanie, and the alien takes a blue top, green trousers, purple belt and a headband with three paper eyes. Tape fails on fabric within the hour, so use safety pins on the back of each paper panel instead. Freckles for Jessie, a few graphic lines for Buzz and green cheeks for the alien finish it without a single wig.
32. DIY Cardboard Toy Story Group Costume

Cardboard turns plain clothes into Woody, Buzz, Forky, Hamm and a green alien. Woody wears jeans, a yellow shirt, boots and a cardboard cow-print vest with a sheriff badge, and Buzz layers white clothes under green and purple chest armour, wings and boot panels cut from cardboard. Forky gets a cardboard spork headpiece, red yarn, rainbow trim and flat craft-stick shoe covers; Hamm wears pink with a cardboard coin slot and a curled paper tail; the alien combines blue and green with a three-eyed cardboard hat and planet badge. Use cereal-box weight card for anything that bends around the body and corrugated only for flat pieces like wings. Paint with matte acrylic, round every corner, and keep makeup light so the handmade pieces carry it. Rain softens cardboard fast, so have a plan if you're outdoors.
33. Color Block Toy Story Group Costume

Colour blocking suggests the characters without trying to copy them, and it suits adults who don't love costumes. Woody wears a yellow top, jeans, brown vest, red scarf, brown hat and boots. Buzz pairs white trousers with a white jacket, a lime belt, purple beanie and white sneakers. Jessie uses a white blouse, jeans, red accessories, a cow-print bag, a red braid and boots. Bo Peep goes pale blue head to toe with a pink cape, blonde ponytail and black ankle boots. Rex wears green separates with purple accessories, and Hamm goes all pink with pig ears and a curled tail. The risk is going too subtle, so I'd keep one literal clue per person, like Woody's hat or Hamm's ears, and a small handmade badge.
34. Toy Story Pajama Group Costume

Pyjama costumes are what I'd suggest for a sleepover, a cosy party or a long school day. Woody wears yellow plaid pyjamas with a felt cow-print vest, red bandanna, soft cowboy hat and brown slippers. Buzz wears white pyjamas with green and purple felt shapes, a purple sleep cap, soft fabric wings and white slippers. Jessie has white and blue pyjamas with cow-print leg panels, a red yarn braid, red hat, freckles and boot-style slippers. Rex wears a green hooded onesie with felt spikes, purple spots, a tail and green slipper socks, and the alien takes blue pyjamas, a purple belt, green hood, three soft eyes and antennae. Fleece pyjamas pick up static and lint, so iron-on felt shapes hold better on them than glued ones.
35. Large Toy Story Cast Group Costume

For ten or more people, assemble Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bo Peep, Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog, Forky, Lotso, an alien and both Potato Heads. Everyone starts with comfortable clothes in the character's strongest colours, then adds hats, wigs, felt panels, ears, tails, wings, foam facial details and light props. Footwear can run from cowboy boots to boot covers over trainers. Agree on one makeup finish for the whole group, all matte or all with a little shimmer, because a mix looks patchy in flash. For the photo I put the western and space characters at the centre, tall figures behind and the round toys in front. Blue, red, green and yellow repeated across the cast give that toy-box look.
Buzz's Wings Need Straps, Not Glue
Most Toy Story costumes fail in the same three places: Buzz's wings, the cowboy hats and anything held on with hot glue. Hot glue grips well at room temperature but turns brittle in cold air, and an outdoor evening is enough to make foam panels pop off a sweatshirt. For anything worn outside I sew pieces on, use fabric glue that dries flexible, or pin from the inside.
Wings
Cut them from foam board or craft foam rather than heavy corrugated card, and mount them on two loops of wide elastic worn like backpack straps. That way they come off for car rides and dinner, and they don't drag the neckline of the shirt backwards all evening.
Hats and headpieces
Cowboy hats blow off and three-eyed beanies slide. A thin elastic chin cord tucked behind the ears fixes the first; two bobby pins crossed through the knit into the hair fixes the second. Test both by shaking your head hard at home before you head out.
Cow Print and Plaid Without a Costume Pack
Cow print is the detail that does the most work in this theme, and it's the easiest to fake. White felt with black shapes cut freehand looks more like the cartoon than printed fleece, because the toy's patches are big and blobby. For Woody's vest, a thrifted brown or black vest with felt patches stitched on beats a costume vest that will crease and tear. Yellow plaid shirts are common in thrift shops in autumn; any small check reads correctly from a few steps away, so don't hunt for an exact match.
Woody, Buzz and Jessie Come First, Then Grow
If you're unsure where to start, make the classic Woody, Buzz and Jessie trio, then add aliens and animal toys as more people say yes. A large family or office crew can branch into the daycare toys, the carnival prizes and Bonnie's collection. Build every look on comfortable clothes first, then add felt panels, hats, wigs, a little makeup and the shoes each person can walk in. Repeated colour is what holds a mixed group together, far more than matching effort. Soft, light details beat rigid masks and big structures every time. Let each person choose the toy that fits their personality and how much making they really want to do.
