Priscilla Presley's style gives you far more than one black bouffant and a heavy cat eye. She went from a softly dressed teenager to a polished 1960s icon and then to a relaxed 1970s dresser, and every stage of that makes a good costume for Halloween, a themed party or a vintage photo shoot. The sixties signatures are teased dark hair, winged liner, pale lipstick, mini dresses and statement sleeves; the seventies bring flowing prints, rhinestone denim, tailored flares and a much softer face. When I style her, I pick the era first, because hair and makeup change completely between the two. Every look below covers clothing, hair, makeup, accessories and shoes, from accurate recreations to closet-built versions.

Sixties or Seventies Priscilla? Decide Before You Shop
Priscilla dressed so differently across her life that the first decision isn't the dress, it's the decade. Mixing them is the most common reason a costume looks vaguely retro instead of clearly her.
- 1960s: tall black bouffant, heavy black liner with a long wing, false lashes, very pale lips, and short shift or A-line dresses with long sleeves and high necks.
- 1970s: long center-parted hair with soft volume, a gentler brown-black liner, bronzed cheeks, glossy nude lips, and flares, peasant blouses, pantsuits and denim.
- Later years: a shoulder-length blowout, polished everyday makeup and tailored suits or gowns.
My rule is to keep the hair and makeup in the same decade as the clothes. A bouffant over flared jeans or a soft seventies face with a sixties mini both look like a mistake rather than a choice. If you want the look most people recognize at a party, go sixties; if you'd like something you can wear again, go seventies.
1. Priscilla Presley Wedding Costume

The 1967 wedding look is the one most people picture. Choose a long white A-line dress with sheer lace sleeves, a high neckline and subtle pearl trim, and pair it with a long veil and her tall dark bouffant. A padded hair insert or a light wig gives the height without hours of teasing, and it's much kinder to your own hair. Bold black winged liner, defined lashes, softly arched brows and pale pink lipstick keep the face right for the decade. A rhinestone tiara, pearl earrings and a small white bouquet finish the bridal side. The skirt hides your feet, so I'd wear comfortable white block heels. It's also the obvious half of a 1960s couple costume.
2. Classic Black Bouffant Priscilla Presley Costume

If you want the version everyone gets in one glance, start with a fitted black mini dress with long sleeves and a modest neckline. Sheer black tights and low block-heel pumps keep it sleek. The hair does the real work: a tall jet-black bouffant with smooth sides and softly curled ends. A ready-made beehive wig is the easy route, while a foam hair cushion adds height to your own hair. Draw thick black liner across the upper lashes, pull it into a sharp wing and add full false lashes, then keep the lips pale pink and the skin softly matte. Pearl studs, a small structured handbag and a vintage compact as a prop round it off.
3. Pink Sweater Schoolgirl Priscilla Presley Costume

Her late-1950s and early-1960s look is softer, before the towering hair and heavy makeup took over. A fuzzy pink crewneck sweater, a calf-length black circle skirt, white ankle socks and black-and-white saddle shoes set the era. Wear dark hair at shoulder length with a little teased volume at the crown and the ends curled under. Thin winged liner, mascara, peach blush and soft rose lipstick keep the face fresh. A stack of schoolbooks tied with ribbon or a small vintage handbag tells people when you are. Add a narrow headband and delicate studs. It's the version I'd suggest for daytime or school-friendly events, or for anyone who prefers a subtle reference.
4. White Lace Mini Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

A white lace mini gives you a bridal feel without a full gown. Choose a lined shift dress with long lace sleeves, a high neckline and a hem you're comfortable with, and wear it with white or silver low heels and sheer tights. Unlined lace shows everything underneath in flash photos, so the lining is the first thing I check. Style a black bouffant wig with curled ends and set a narrow white satin headband near the hairline. Thick cat-eye liner, feathery lashes, pale pink lips and soft cheek contour. A small white bouquet or a pearl-handled evening bag is the prop, with crystal studs and a simple cocktail ring for shine.
5. Black Turtleneck And Cigarette Pants Costume

This one can come almost entirely from your closet. Wear a fitted black turtleneck with high-waisted cigarette pants and pointed black flats; the plain base lets the hair and makeup tell people who you are. Push a wide black headband into a high bouffant and leave the ends long and gently curled over the shoulders. Bold liquid liner, strong upper-lash definition, full lashes and a nude-pink lip. Gold hoops, oversized sunglasses and a structured top-handle bag add the glamour. Carry a vintage-style compact or a folded fashion magazine. Turtlenecks get warm under a wig, so I'd pick a thin knit rather than a chunky one for an indoor party.
6. Blue Floral Mini Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

Blue florals bring out the sweet side of 1960s Priscilla. Look for an A-line mini with long sleeves, a high neckline and small white or pastel flowers, and wear pale blue block heels or white Mary Janes with sheer tights. With a busy print, I'd keep the bouffant medium-height rather than enormous, so the hair and the dress aren't fighting for attention; let the curled black ends rest at the shoulders. Navy or black winged liner, long lashes, soft pink blush and light pink lipstick. A slim white headband, pearl earrings, a small powder-blue handbag and a single artificial flower that matches the print finish it.
7. Red Velvet Mini Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

Red velvet gives the polished sixties look a richer Halloween feel. Choose a long-sleeved mini with a high neck or soft rounded collar, and add sheer black tights and black patent block heels. Keep the bouffant smooth and structured, high at the crown, with long curled ends. With a dress this strong, the lips should stay muted pink; red lips plus red velvet tips the look into a different decade entirely. Sharp extended black liner, full lashes and defined brows. Gold button earrings, a slim bracelet, a small black top-handle bag and a faux red rose as the prop. Velvet crushes where you sit, so a quick steam before you leave is worth it.
8. White Satin Mini Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

For a Las Vegas feel, wear a white satin mini with long sleeves and a softly flared skirt, or a matte white shift if satin feels too formal. Silver block heels, crystal earrings and a tiny metallic evening bag keep it bright. Style a tall black bouffant with curled shoulder-length ends and a slim rhinestone headband. The makeup here is a double wing, dark lashes, pale pink lipstick and lightly luminous skin; I'd skip shimmer on the cheeks, since satin already throws plenty of light. A small white floral wrist corsage makes it feel like a special occasion. It's easier to move in than the wedding gown and quicker to put together.
9. Polka Dot Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

Polka dots are a playful way into her sixties style. Pick a dress with a fitted bodice, a knee-length A-line skirt, three-quarter sleeves and a white collar if you can find one. Black Mary Jane heels and sheer tights keep it in period. Tease dark hair into a rounded bouffant, smooth the surface and flip the ends outward. Bold cat-eye liner, separated lashes, rosy cheeks and pale peach-pink lipstick. White button earrings, short gloves and a structured black handbag, with a compact tucked inside as the prop. Large dots read better from a distance than tiny ones, which blur into gray in photos. Comfortable enough for an office party or a long night.
10. Pink Bow Gown Priscilla Presley Costume

For full rock-and-roll glamour, wear a floor-length pink gown with a fitted bodice, a flowing skirt and an oversized bow at the waist or shoulder. Satin or chiffon gives the movement you want. Silver low heels go under the hem and sparkly drop earrings frame the face. A formal black bouffant with smooth volume and curled ends, thick winged liner, plush lashes, soft contour and pale pink lips. Carry a small silver clutch or a single long-stem artificial flower. With a bow that big, I keep the rest of the jewelry to the earrings. This is the most theatrical Priscilla here, good for a formal party or a stage.
11. Yellow Shift Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

Yellow is an unexpected Priscilla, and it works. A sunny shift dress just above the knee, with a high neckline, long sleeves and a clean A-line cut, gives the sixties shape in one piece. White block heels and a small white handbag keep it crisp. A black bouffant wig with rounded crown volume and flipped ends, with a matching yellow headband, ties the hair to the dress. Black winged liner, thick lashes, peach blush and pale nude-pink lips. Big white button earrings and a yellow flower are the accessories. In group photos the color stands out, while the hair and eyes keep it clearly her.
12. Green Mod Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

A jewel-green mod dress is a bold change from her neutrals. Choose a structured mini with a high neck, long sleeves and decorative buttons, and ground the color with black opaque tights and square-toe block heels. Build the bouffant with a dark wig or hair padding and turn the ends under for a smooth finish. A strong black cat eye, full lashes, defined brows and a pale coral lip. Gold earrings, a narrow bracelet and a mini structured bag. Oversized sunglasses double as the prop. Structured mod fabrics crease at the hip after a car ride, so I hang the dress until the last minute and sit carefully.
13. Fuchsia Shirt Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

A vivid fuchsia shirt dress is linked to Priscilla right after Lisa Marie's birth, worn with her bouffant and full eye makeup. Recreate it with a button-front pink dress, a defined waist, long sleeves and a knee-length hem. Matching or neutral block heels and a small cream handbag keep it calm. A polished high bouffant with softly curled lengths, strong black liner, thick lashes, muted pink lipstick and a smooth matte base. Pearl earrings and a narrow wristwatch make it look refined. Carry a small bouquet of pale flowers or a vintage-style announcement card. The color sets this apart from the far more common black mini version.
14. Purple Blouse And Pants Priscilla Presley Costume

By 1970 her wardrobe had relaxed, and a lilac peasant blouse with deep-purple flared pants captures that shift: billowing sleeves, darker trousers and much softer hair. Pick a blouse with an elastic waist or gathered bodice and wear it over high-rise pants, with brown platforms, gold hoops and a small shoulder bag. Hair goes long and loose with crown volume, a center part and brushed waves. Swap the heavy liner for a softer wing, warm blush, mascara and peachy nude lipstick. Oversized sunglasses or a vintage camera is the prop. For anyone who wants a Priscilla without the beehive, this is where I'd start.
15. Rhinestone Denim Priscilla Presley Costume

Her 1970s glam side shows in rhinestone-trimmed jeans, a fitted black blouse and a cropped embellished denim jacket; rhinestone denim became part of her look in that decade, around the time she co-owned a Beverly Hills boutique. High-waisted flared jeans set the era, with silver platform shoes. Wear long dark hair in a big center-parted blowout instead of a bouffant. Smoky winged liner, mascara, bronzed cheeks and glossy nude lips. Silver hoops, stacked bangles and a small metallic shoulder bag, plus oversized tinted sunglasses. Stick-on rhinestones fall off denim fast, so I use hot-fix stones set with an iron or sew the larger ones on.
16. White Peasant Blouse And Flares Costume

Soft, flowing shapes make this an easy seventies Priscilla. Start with a white peasant blouse with balloon sleeves, gathered cuffs and a gently fitted waist, tuck it into high-rise dark denim flares and add tan platform sandals or boots. Long black or very dark brown hair with a center part, a smooth crown and loose waves suits it. Brown-black liner, fluttery mascara, peach blush and glossy light pink lipstick are far gentler than the famous sixties face. Gold hoops, a pendant necklace and a brown shoulder bag, with oversized sunglasses or a vintage record sleeve as the prop. Every piece here is wearable afterward, so it never feels like a throwaway costume.
17. Floral Maxi Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

A long floral maxi shows her move toward freer, romantic seventies dressing. Choose a flowing dress with bell sleeves, a high or softly scooped neck and flowers in purple, pink, green or rust. Platform sandals go under the skirt, and a small suede shoulder bag is the only bag you need. Long center-parted hair, full at the sides with brushed-out waves rather than a stiff bouffant. Softly smoked liner, mascara, warm blush and peach lipstick. Hoops, a delicate pendant and an artificial flower tucked behind one ear. It's a good outdoor choice, though I'd check the hem length in platforms first, because maxis dragging on wet grass soak up water fast.
18. Black Mini Dress And White Headband Costume

Here the headband is the star. Wear a simple black long-sleeved mini with a high neckline, sheer tights and low black heels, then set a wide white headband across the front of a tall dark bouffant for strong contrast. Curl the ends outward at the shoulders. Dramatic cat-eye liner, upper and lower lash definition, pale pink lips and matte foundation. White button earrings and a compact white handbag repeat the headband color, and oversized white sunglasses are the prop. Wide plastic headbands press behind the ears after an hour, so I pad the ends with a little felt. The clothing is minimal, which keeps it affordable.
19. Striped Knit Mini Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

A striped knit mini makes the sixties look warm enough for a cold night. Horizontal stripes in black and cream, navy and white or pink and brown all work, with long sleeves, a high neck and a gently shaped A-line skirt. Opaque tights and low block-heel ankle boots. A dark bouffant wig with a smooth crown and flipped ends, heavy black liner and full lashes, then neutral blush and light pink lipstick. Large hoops, a structured handbag and oversized sunglasses, with a small vintage makeup case as the prop. Knits stretch at the seat over an evening, so I'd pick one with some weight and a bit of spandex in the fiber content.
20. Leopard Coat Priscilla Presley Costume

A faux-leopard coat turns the outerwear into the costume. Layer it over a fitted black mini with sheer tights and black knee-high boots, and leave the coat open enough to show the dress. An extra-high black bouffant with curled shoulder-length ends and a wide black headband. Strong winged liner, thick lashes, pale lips and soft cheek definition. Gold hoops and a small black handbag, with oversized dark sunglasses as the prop. Choose faux fur, not real. On a cold outdoor night this is the Priscilla I'd wear, since the coat does the warming and the styling at once.
21. Cream Trench Coat Priscilla Presley Costume

Sixties travel glamour comes from a belted cream trench coat over a black turtleneck and slim black pants, with pointed flats or low-heeled ankle boots for walking. A medium-height bouffant with softly curled ends sits well with a printed silk-look scarf tied at the neck. Black winged liner, full mascara, peach blush and pale pink lipstick. Pearl earrings, leather-look gloves and a structured travel bag, with oversized sunglasses and a vintage-style boarding pass as the props. I'd leave the coat partly open so the layers show in full-length photos. It looks sophisticated rather than theatrical and suits cooler weather.
22. White Faux-Fur Coat Priscilla Presley Costume

For full sixties star power, layer a plush white faux-fur coat over a silver or white mini. A knee-length coat keeps the dress hem visible. White knee-high boots and sheer tights, then a dramatic black bouffant with a smooth top and ends curled around the shoulders. Thick winged liner, long lashes, cool pink blush and pale glossy lips. Crystal earrings, a silver clutch, oversized sunglasses and a small bouquet of white artificial flowers. White faux fur picks up makeup at the collar, so I do the face fully before putting the coat on and set the jawline with powder.
23. Red Pantsuit Priscilla Presley Costume

A sharply tailored red pantsuit is a confident seventies Priscilla. Choose a fitted single-button blazer and high-waisted flared trousers, with a cream satin blouse underneath and black platforms so the long pants fall over the shoes. A full center-parted blowout with lifted roots and curved ends, softly smoky liner, defined lashes, warm blush and nude-pink lipstick. Gold hoops, a simple chain and a structured black handbag. Hold oversized sunglasses or a vintage press-pass card. Flares need hemming with the shoes on; a quarter inch off the floor is what makes them look tailored rather than borrowed.
24. White Pantsuit Priscilla Presley Costume

Head-to-toe white gives a clean, glamorous pantsuit Priscilla. Begin with a fitted blazer, high-rise flared pants and a pale satin camisole or modest shell, then white or silver platforms and a small metallic clutch. Long dark hair, brushed and center-parted, with volume at the crown and sides. Winged black liner, separated lashes, luminous skin and soft peach-pink lips. Silver hoops and a slim sparkly bracelet, with oversized lightly tinted sunglasses. It reads as vintage glamour without copying one exact outfit, and it gives more coverage and movement than a mini or a gown. White trousers show what's underneath in flash photos, so check them with your phone camera first.
25. Orange Pantsuit Priscilla Presley Costume

Burnt orange tailoring is about as seventies as it gets. Wear an orange blazer with matching flared pants and a cream blouse with a pointed collar, plus tan platform boots and a structured brown shoulder bag. Long dark hair, center-parted, full and curved away from the face. Brown-black winged liner, mascara, bronzed blush and peachy nude lipstick. Gold hoops and a slim pendant tie the warm palette together, and big amber-colored sunglasses are the main prop; carry them rather than wearing them in dim rooms. The earthy colors and wide trousers set the decade, while the hair and makeup tie it to her.
26. Blue Jumpsuit Priscilla Presley Costume

A fitted blue jumpsuit is a one-piece seventies Priscilla. Look for long sleeves, a defined waist, wide legs and a modest zip or collared front, with silver platform heels and a narrow metallic belt. Long dark hair with a center part, lifted roots and soft waves past the shoulders. Elongated black liner, thick mascara, rosy blush and pale pink lipstick. Silver hoops, a cuff bracelet and a small matching clutch, with aviator-shaped sunglasses as the prop. The strong silhouette means no layering. The one honest drawback: bathroom trips take longer in a jumpsuit, so I'd pick a front zip over a back zip every time.
27. Black Leather Pants Priscilla Presley Costume

Faux-leather pants give her polished image a rock edge. Pair them with a fitted cream blouse and a cropped black jacket, and choose a flared or straight leg rather than a very tight cut so the shape stays seventies. Black platform ankle boots and a small shoulder bag with gold hardware. A big center-parted blowout, smoky winged liner, thick lashes, peach blush and glossy nude lips. Gold hoops and stacked bangles. Carry tinted sunglasses or a toy microphone with no cords or sharp parts. Faux leather doesn't breathe, so for a warm, crowded party I'd look for a stretch pair with a knit back.
28. Suede Fringe Vest Priscilla Presley Costume

A tan faux-suede fringe vest over a white bell-sleeve blouse makes a soft seventies look. Add dark high-waisted flared jeans and brown platform ankle boots. The vest should end near the hips so the fringe swings without swamping you. Long dark hair in a loose center-parted blowout, brown winged liner, mascara, warm blush and peach-pink lipstick. Gold hoops, a pendant and a small suede-look bag, with oversized sunglasses and an artificial flower tucked into the bag. Fringe vests turn up often in thrift stores, and this one becomes an everyday outfit the day after.
29. Crochet Vest And Flared Jeans Costume

A colorful crochet vest anchors a casual seventies Priscilla. Layer it over a cream blouse with gathered sleeves, then add medium-wash flared jeans and tan platform clogs. I'd choose a vest in muted orange, brown, yellow or purple so it looks planned rather than busy. Long center-parted hair with soft volume and feathered ends. Subtle winged liner, mascara, peach blush and a glossy nude lip. Gold hoops, a brown crossbody and a slim pendant, with round oversized sunglasses as the prop. Crochet catches on bag zippers and rings, so a smooth crossbody is the safer pick.
30. Black Maxi Gown Priscilla Presley Costume

A floor-length black gown is the evening Priscilla. Choose a fitted bodice, long sleeves and a gently flared skirt with room to walk, and wear black low heels or dressy flats underneath. A high formal bouffant with smooth sides and curled ends, dramatic winged liner, thick false lashes, defined brows, cool pink blush and pale pink lipstick. Crystal drop earrings and a silver evening bag bring light to all that black, and a single artificial white rose is the photo prop. I'd keep embellishment off the gown itself, so the hair and eyes stay the first thing people notice. It suits a formal party or a vintage gala.
31. Silver Sequin Gown Priscilla Presley Costume

Silver sequins make her look stage-ready. Wear a long-sleeved silver gown with a straight or gently flared skirt and low metallic heels for stability. A black bouffant wig with real crown height and curled shoulder-length ends. Bold double-winged liner, dense lashes, luminous cheeks and light pink lips. Crystal earrings, a slim bracelet and a small silver clutch, with a faux white flower or vintage powder compact. Since the dress throws so much light, keep everything else simple. Sequin sleeves scratch the inner arm, so check that the inside is lined before you buy. Good for a party where people dress up more than usual.
32. Pale Blue Chiffon Gown Priscilla Presley Costume

Pale blue chiffon gives a romantic sixties evening feel. Pick a floor-length gown with sheer sleeves, a fitted waist and soft gathers through the skirt, with silver or pale blue block heels underneath. A formal bouffant with smooth height and softly curled ends, extended black liner, feathery lashes, cool pink blush and pale glossy lips. Crystal drop earrings, a delicate bracelet and a satin clutch, with a mini bouquet of white and blue flowers. It's a gentler choice than black or sequins. Chiffon snags on rough nails and jewelry clasps, so I'd file nails smooth and choose a bracelet with no catches.
33. Pink Satin Blouse And Black Pants Costume

A glossy pink satin blouse with high-waisted black flares is simple and polished. Look for balloon sleeves, a neck tie or a softly pointed collar, and add black platforms and a structured pink or black handbag. Long center-parted hair with plenty of movement at the ends. Black winged liner, full lashes, rosy blush and a soft nude-pink lip. Gold hoops and a slim watch, with oversized sunglasses or a compact as the prop. The blouse gives shine, the trousers keep you comfortable, and the pairing adapts easily to any size or coverage you like. Satin shows sweat marks under the arms, so a light layer underneath is worth it on a warm night.
34. Headscarf Travel Priscilla Presley Costume

Vintage travel dressing is a cream shift dress, a fitted camel coat and a printed headscarf tied neatly under the chin. Sheer tights and low brown block heels or polished loafers finish the base. Keep the bouffant moderate so the scarf sits securely without flattening it, and pin the scarf at the crown with two bobby pins. Sharp black liner, full lashes, peach blush and pale pink lipstick. Oversized sunglasses, pearl earrings and a structured top-handle bag, with a vintage-style luggage tag as the prop. Leave the coat open for photos. It's warm, walkable and recognizable from the hair, eyes and accessories together.
35. Poolside Caftan Priscilla Presley Costume

A flowing caftan captures her relaxed seventies luxury without any swimwear. Choose an ankle-length design with wide sleeves and a bright geometric or floral print, then add metallic flat sandals, large hoops and stacked bangles. Long dark hair with a center part and loose brushed waves. Softly smoked liner, mascara, bronzed cheeks and glossy peach lips. Oversized sunglasses and a woven tote are the props, with a light scarf tied to the bag handle. The loose shape suits a wide range of sizes and warm indoor parties. Wide sleeves dip into drinks and food, so I push them up with a hidden elastic band at the elbow.
36. Denim Shirt Dress Priscilla Presley Costume

A fitted denim shirt dress is an easy casual seventies base. Choose a knee-length design with long sleeves, front buttons and a matching belt, and wear brown knee-high boots or platform ankle boots with a small suede-look bag. Long center-parted hair with lifted roots and curved ends, a softer cat eye, plenty of mascara, peach blush and nude-pink lipstick. Gold hoops and a narrow pendant, with tinted sunglasses pushed up on the head indoors. Temporary rhinestone buttons add sparkle; button covers that clip over the originals mean you never have to unpick the dress afterward.
37. Tweed Blazer And Baker Boy Cap Costume

A tailored seventies Priscilla comes together with a fitted tweed blazer, a cream turtleneck, matching flared trousers and a textured baker boy cap, the kind of polished separates she wore after the sixties. Brown platform loafers and a structured leather-look bag. Wear long dark hair loose under the cap with soft volume at the sides and ends; I tilt the cap slightly back so the hairline still shows. Winged liner, separated lashes, warm blush and a muted pink lip, with gold hoops and a narrow watch. Carry sunglasses or a folded vintage newspaper. Without the bouffant, the cap is what makes it distinctive, and it's warm for outdoor events.
38. Business Glamour Priscilla Presley Costume

Her later image as a businesswoman is a different kind of Priscilla. Wear a cream skirt suit, a silky blush blouse and polished nude pumps, with a fitted blazer and a knee-length pencil or softly pleated skirt. A full shoulder-length blowout with a side part and smooth curved ends. Makeup moves from theatrical to polished: defined liner, mascara, rosy blush and pink lipstick. Pearl earrings, a slim gold watch and a structured handbag, with a vintage-style appointment book or a boutique shopping bag as the prop. It's the one I'd suggest for an office party, or for anyone who'd rather skip the bridal dress and beehive.
39. Red Carpet Black Gown Priscilla Presley Costume

For a mature red-carpet version, wear a sleek floor-length black gown with long sleeves, a defined waist and tasteful crystal detail, plus black pointed pumps and a small sparkly clutch. Style dark auburn or deep brown hair in a smooth shoulder-length blowout with soft face-framing layers. Polished black liner, full mascara, rosy blush and rose-pink lipstick, with crystal earrings and a matching bracelet. Oversized sunglasses or a mock event invitation work for photos. This moves past her sixties image but keeps what she never dropped: glamorous hair, defined eyes and an elegant line. It suits a formal party and adults who want a refined celebrity costume.
40. Easy Last-Minute Priscilla Presley Costume

In a hurry? A black mini dress, sheer tights and black block heels are the whole outfit. The hair is where the time goes: a dark wig, a clip-in hairpiece or crown padding under your own hair. Smooth the outer layer, add a wide black headband and curl the ends. Draw an exaggerated cat eye with liquid liner, add mascara or light false lashes and finish with pale pink lipstick. Pearl earrings, oversized sunglasses and any structured handbag you already own, with a vintage compact as the prop. Because the bouffant and the eyes carry everything, nobody misses the sewing or the special shoes.
Building the Bouffant Without Wrecking Your Own Hair
Half of these looks depend on that tall sixties shape, and heavy teasing of your own hair can leave breakage and a painful brush-out. These are the gentler ways I'd build it.
With your own hair
Section off the top layer and clip it forward. Pin a foam or mesh hair cushion in place at the crown, then lightly backcomb only the roots of the hair underneath so the pins have something to grip. Drop the top layer back over the cushion, smooth it with a soft brush and spray. You get most of the height with a fraction of the teasing. To take it down, brush from the ends upward and use a conditioner or detangler on the teased roots.
With a wig
A pre-styled beehive wig is easiest, but many of them are glossy and too perfect. I lightly brush the surface and add a matte dry shampoo to take the shine down, which makes it look far more like real hair. Pin it at the sides and nape through the wig cap, and put the headband on last so it hides the front edge.
A Winged Liner That Lasts Into the Night
Her sixties eye is heavier than most people wear day to day, and it smudges if you treat it like normal makeup. A few honest everyday habits keep it sharp.
- Use a waterproof liquid or gel liner, and draw the wing with your eye open, looking straight ahead, so it follows your lid as it actually sits.
- Set the outer corner with a touch of black eyeshadow pressed over the liner; it stops the wing transferring onto the crease.
- Patch-test lash glue on the inside of your wrist the day before, especially if you've never worn strip lashes.
- Keep the lips pale but not white. A nude-pink with a little warmth looks period without washing you out.
- Take it all off with an oil cleanser or micellar water, pressing and holding rather than rubbing, so the lashes and liner lift without tugging the skin.
Her Hair Tells People Which Decade You Mean
A good Priscilla costume pairs a clear period silhouette with her beauty signatures. A towering black bouffant and graphic liner say 1960s straight away, while center-parted waves, flowing sleeves, flares and glossy lips belong to her 1970s self. Match the era to your comfort, the event and what's already in your wardrobe. Bridal gowns and sequins bring formal drama, but turtlenecks, denim and pantsuits are just as effective. Give each look the right shoes, jewelry, a handbag and one simple prop. Then adjust hem length, heel height, makeup intensity and how you build the hair to suit you, and the costume will look polished without becoming a project.
