Fall is the kindest season to be pregnant in, at least for getting dressed. Knits stretch, layers can hang open, and the warm colors of the season hide very little and flatter a lot. Most of the outfits below sit on four foundations: maternity leggings, stretch denim, knit dresses and soft trousers. Over those go cardigans, blazers, shackets and coats that never have to close across your middle, plus shoes you can stand in for hours. I've included casual days, work, photos and a few dressier plans, and I've said where a piece stops working as the bump grows.

Under the Bump, Over the Bump or Side Panels
Almost every outfit below starts with a maternity bottom, and the waistband style changes how your whole day feels. I ask clients which one they've liked in the past before they buy more.
- Under-bump bands sit low on the hips like regular low-rise jeans. They feel normal and stay cool, but some people find they slip down later in pregnancy without a belly band to help.
- Over-bump panels are a tube of stretch jersey that covers the belly. They hold up well and smooth the line under fitted tops, but they're warm, and some find them too much in the first months.
- Side panels and elastic inserts leave the front looking like ordinary trousers. They're tidy under blazers but have less give, so they're often best in the first and second trimesters.
I'd buy one pair first, wear it for a full day, and only then buy more of the same style. Fit changes fast, so a few pieces you love beat a big haul you outgrow.
1. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Leggings And Oversized Sweater

This is the outfit I suggest for days when getting dressed feels like a lot. Black maternity leggings with a long sweater in oatmeal, gray, burgundy or forest green cover the hips and bump without any fuss. Pick the waistband for the stage you're at now: an over-bump panel is smooth in the third trimester, but some people find it too warm early on. A fitted maternity tank goes underneath so the sweater can come off at lunch. Supportive white sneakers, a light plaid scarf and a crossbody that leaves both hands free finish it.
2. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Knit Midi Dress And Cardigan

A ribbed knit midi dress shows the bump honestly and needs no waistband at all, which is why it is the dress I recommend most often. Rib stretches sideways and recovers, so it keeps its shape across months. A long open cardigan in cream, camel or soft gray adds warmth and a vertical line down each side. Low ankle boots dress it up and sneakers dress it down. If the dress feels clingier than you'd like, a thicker gauge knit or smoothing maternity shorts underneath fixes it. A shoulder bag and a fine pendant are all it needs.
3. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Maternity Jeans And Plaid Shirt

Maternity jeans and a soft plaid shirt are about as easy as fall gets. The panel choice matters here: under-bump denim sits low and feels like normal jeans, while over-bump panels hold everything up but can feel warm by afternoon. A stretchy white maternity tee goes under the open shirt, which draws a long line down each side of the bump. Rust, olive, navy and burgundy checks look right for the season. Cushioned sneakers or flat Chelsea boots, rolled sleeves, a tote and gold studs and you're out the door.
4. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Sweater Dress And Knee-High Boots

For a dressier day, a sweater dress with knee-high boots keeps you warm with almost no layering. Look for a knit that skims the bump and falls at or below the knee, since hems rise as the belly grows. A mock neck looks smart, but pregnancy often makes you run hot, so a crew or V-neck may be kinder. Boots are the fiddly part: calves and ankles can swell, so I look for a side zip and a little room through the shaft, and a flat or low heel. Add an open wool-blend coat, a structured bag and a long pendant in chocolate, plum, charcoal or camel.
5. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Joggers And Denim Jacket

Joggers can look put-together if the top half has some shape. I pair black, olive or heather-gray maternity joggers with a fitted long-sleeve top that's long enough not to creep up over the bump by mid-afternoon. An open denim jacket with the sleeves pushed up gives the outfit edges without pressing on your stomach. Retro sneakers and a belt bag worn across the body rather than at the waist keep it practical. A baseball cap for errands, small hoops if you want it cleaner. It's my pick for travel days and school runs.
6. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Turtleneck And Maternity Trousers

For an office, a fitted maternity turtleneck and tailored trousers look sharp and feel soft. The trousers should have a flexible waistband and a straight or slightly tapered leg. I tuck the turtleneck in if it lies flat, otherwise I let it sit smoothly over the waistband. An open blazer in camel, navy, charcoal or a quiet check frames the bump rather than hiding it. Matching the top and trousers in one color makes you look taller, which helps when the middle is getting wider. Loafers or pointed flats, a structured tote big enough for snacks and water, and one small watch.
7. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Overalls And Striped Top

Overalls are one of the few pieces that grow with you on their own: you just let the straps out. Choose soft denim, corduroy or a stretch cotton, and adjust the straps so the bib rests on the bump without pulling down on your shoulders. A striped long-sleeve tee underneath is the classic pairing, black and white or cream and navy. Cuff the hems once and add low sneakers or flat ankle boots. A thin cardigan works for colder days. One honest drawback: bathroom trips take longer in overalls, which matters more every month.
8. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Midi Skirt And Fitted Sweater

If you're tired of leggings, a stretchy midi skirt with a fitted sweater changes the whole mood. The waistband is the key: soft, wide elastic can sit above or below the bump without leaving a red mark, while a narrow band digs in by evening. Ribbed knit or jersey skirts are easiest; satin looks dressier but shows every crease. Add a maternity sweater in a solid fall shade, or a short cardigan over a fitted top. Pointed flats, loafers or low ankle boots and a medium shoulder bag work for a casual office or a lunch out.
9. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Black Dress And Trench Coat

A black maternity dress and a classic trench is the combination I'd build a fall maternity wardrobe around. Soft jersey or rib in a midi length follows your shape and won't feel stiff. I leave the trench open and let the lapels create two long lines; trying to belt it around a bump never sits right. Beige, stone, olive and navy trenches all suit black. White sneakers make it casual, loafers make it smarter. A leather crossbody, small gold hoops and opaque tights on colder days. It works for commuting, appointments and casual offices alike.
10. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Shacket And Stretch Jeans

A roomy shacket is the in-between layer: warmer than a cardigan, lighter than a coat. Wear it open over a soft maternity tank or long-sleeve tee with stretch maternity jeans. Straight denim balances the shacket's boxy shape; skinny jeans give a sharper contrast if you prefer that. Plaid, camel, olive or a brushed neutral all look seasonal. A shacket is also one of the few jackets that still fits in the last weeks, because it was cut wide to begin with. Lace-up boots or cushioned sneakers, a crossbody and a knit beanie for the pumpkin patch.
11. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Matching Knit Set

A matching knit set feels like loungewear but reads as an outfit, which is exactly why I recommend it for long days and flights. Look for maternity pants with a flexible waistband and a sweater, cardigan or tunic in the same yarn. One color head to toe, oatmeal, chocolate, charcoal or muted olive, looks considered. A supportive tank underneath helps with temperature swings. If the sweater is oversized, a straighter pant leg keeps your proportions in check. Sneakers for travel, loafers or sleek flats for lunch, a structured tote and simple jewelry.
12. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Slip Dress And Chunky Cardigan

A slip dress you loved in summer can come with you into fall. Check that the straps adjust and the fabric has room through the stomach without clinging, since bias-cut satin tends to stretch tightly over a bump. A fitted long-sleeve tee underneath adds coverage and warmth. Then throw an oversized cardigan in cream, rust or warm brown over it, worn open. Flat ankle boots ground the delicate fabric. Smooth dress against chunky knit is what makes the outfit interesting, so keep jewelry small. Good for brunch, showers and casual celebrations.
13. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Hoodie And Long Coat

A hoodie under a long coat is my go-to for busy, chilly days when comfort wins. The maternity hoodie needs length and room through the front so it doesn't ride up. Pair it with black leggings or soft straight pants, then an open wool-look coat in camel, charcoal or a check, with the hood sitting outside the collar. An open coat is also the realistic choice, since most of your pre-pregnancy coats will stop buttoning at some point. Athletic sneakers, a crossbody, and no more than two or three colors in total keep it looking pulled together.
14. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Button-Down Shirt And Leggings

An oversized button-down is one of the most useful things I can tell a pregnant client to borrow or buy. Start with a long maternity tank or fitted tee that stays down over the bump. Over it, a cotton or brushed shirt in white, pale blue, olive or a fine stripe, open or fastened only at the top. Rolled sleeves keep it from looking sloppy. Loafers make it smart-casual, white sneakers keep it everyday. When it turns colder, add a sleeveless sweater or open cardigan on top. The bonus is postpartum: a button front makes nursing easier later.
15. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Wrap Dress And Ankle Boots

A wrap dress is the most adjustable dress a pregnant body can wear. A true wrap lets you loosen the tie as you grow, while a faux wrap stays fixed but won't come undone in wind. I always check the neckline in motion, because a wrap can gape more as the bust changes. Long sleeves and a midi hem make it fall-ready, and deep green, burgundy, navy or a small floral needs very little else. Stable low ankle boots, a tan or black bag, and a long cardigan or light coat over the top. It goes to work, showers and family dinners.
16. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Sweater Vest And Maternity Jeans

A sweater vest is a clever way to add warmth without heavy sleeves, which suits anyone running hot. Start with a crisp oversized button-down or stretchy long-sleeve tee in white or pale blue. The vest in camel, gray, navy or a subtle pattern needs to end comfortably around the bump; a short one will ride up and look accidental. Straight-leg maternity jeans keep it balanced. Loafers, ballet flats or sneakers depending on the day, a crossbody and small hoops. I like it for early fall, when mornings and afternoons feel like different seasons.
17. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Flannel Dress And Boots

A flannel shirt dress is soft, covers a lot and looks right in the season. Buy a maternity version, or size up in a regular style with real room through the waist and hips, and check the button placket doesn't pull open across the bump. Wear it loose, or put a narrow belt above the bump if that feels good. Opaque maternity tights and flat knee-high or ankle boots handle colder days. A long cardigan adds warmth without fighting the plaid. Burgundy, forest, navy and brown checks look especially good in outdoor family photos.
18. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Jumpsuit And Cardigan

A maternity jumpsuit gives you a complete outfit in one move. Look for real stretch, adjustable straps and an easy neckline. The question I always ask before recommending one: how quickly can you get out of it? A jumpsuit that needs a back zip and full removal for every bathroom visit gets old fast in pregnancy. Black, olive, rust or chocolate pair with most fall layers. A fitted tee underneath, an open cardigan over it, then sneakers for casual or loafers and low boots to make it a little smarter. A crossbody and a small pendant finish it.
19. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Blazer And Knit Dress

A blazer turns a plain maternity knit dress into a work outfit. Start with a stretchy fitted midi, then add a single-breasted blazer worn open. The blazer can come straight from your existing closet, since it never has to button across the bump; just check the shoulders and sleeves still fit. Camel, navy, black or a check all feel right for fall. If you want more coverage at the back, choose one that falls below the hips. Loafers, slingback flats or low block-heel boots, a structured bag and a little gold jewelry.
20. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Tunic Sweater And Tall Boots

A long tunic sweater covers you from shoulders to hips, which is why it's one of the most requested pieces in my maternity fittings. Pick one that ends below the hips but doesn't swamp a smaller frame, and look for side slits so the knit moves around the bump instead of riding up. Black maternity leggings underneath, and flat riding boots or stretchy knee-high boots. Wool can feel itchy on sensitive pregnant skin, so I put a soft maternity tank between your skin and the sweater. Camel, cream, charcoal or deep red, a light scarf and a roomy bag.
21. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Corduroy Pants And Long-Sleeve Top

Corduroy pants bring texture to a pregnancy wardrobe that's otherwise all jersey and denim. Choose a maternity pair with a flexible belly panel and a straight or wide leg. Corduroy is heavier than it looks, so I balance it with a fitted long-sleeve top rather than a bulky sweater. Cream, rust, chocolate, olive and tan sit together naturally. An open denim jacket or light cardigan goes over it. Corduroy wale flattens where it rubs, so I wash these inside out. Leather-look sneakers, loafers or flat ankle boots, plus a simple crossbody.
22. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Floral Midi Dress And Denim Jacket

A dark floral midi gives you color and movement when the rest of your closet has gone neutral. Look for a maternity cut, an empire waist, a wrap front or a smocked bodice; smocking is especially forgiving because it stretches with you. Burgundy, mustard, navy, cream and green prints feel like fall. An open denim jacket keeps it relaxed. Ankle boots make it seasonal and sneakers make it casual. A neutral crossbody, small hoops and maternity tights once it's cold. Floral is also kind in photos because it doesn't show creases.
23. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Wide-Leg Pants And Cardigan

Wide-leg maternity pants with a short cardigan look modern and feel easy. Soft jersey or ponte trousers are my first choice: ponte holds its shape and doesn't bag at the knee. Add a fitted maternity tank or scoop-neck top, then a cropped cardigan buttoned above the bump or left open. High contrast gives definition; a tonal outfit in cream, taupe, brown or charcoal looks quieter and longer. Hem the trousers for the flat shoes you'll actually wear, because pointed flats and sneakers sit lower than heels. A short necklace keeps attention near your face.
24. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Puffer Vest And Maternity Jeans

A lightweight puffer vest keeps your core warm while leaving your arms and bump unencumbered. Layer it open over a fitted maternity sweater or long-sleeve tee with straight-leg maternity jeans. Sit down in it before buying: a hip-length vest shouldn't press into your belly when you're seated. Olive, black, cream and navy go with most things. Hiking-style sneakers or flat lace-up boots, warm socks and a backpack worn on both shoulders to spread the load are the practical choices for orchard visits and nature walks. A knit beanie for colder mornings.
25. Fall Pregnancy Outfit With Maxi Dress And Wool Coat

For family portraits or an autumn celebration, a long maternity dress with an open wool coat looks graceful and stays comfortable. A stretchy long-sleeve maxi follows the bump and moves freely at the legs. Black, chocolate, deep green or burgundy look rich next to a camel, gray or cream coat. Check the hem with your shoes on: a maxi that's too long is a real tripping risk when you can no longer see your feet. Sleek flat boots or low block heels keep you steady. A structured bag, delicate earrings and a soft scarf if it's cold.
The Maternity Buys That Outlast the Pregnancy
When you're spending money on clothes for a few months, it's worth knowing which ones will last into the fourth trimester and beyond. In my experience the ones that carry over have open fronts or adjustable shapes.
The long-haul pieces
Button-down shirts, wrap dresses and open cardigans all allow easy nursing access and fit a body that's still changing. Shackets and unbuttoned coats will go straight back into your normal rotation. Overalls and stretchy knit sets stay comfortable while your middle settles.
The pieces to borrow, not buy
Fitted bump-skimming dresses and over-bump jeans are made for one shape, and that shape is temporary. If budget is tight, these are the ones I'd source secondhand or borrow from a friend.
Shoes for changing feet
Many people find their feet swell in later pregnancy, and some go up a half size that stays. I steer clients toward boots with side zips, sneakers with removable insoles and loafers with a little give rather than buying a full new set of tight shoes in the first trimester.
Most of Your Closet Can Come Along
You don't need to replace your wardrobe to be comfortable pregnant through the fall. A few flexible foundations, leggings, stretch denim, knit dresses and soft trousers, carry dozens of outfits. Open layers do the rest: the cardigans, blazers, shackets and coats you already own work fine worn unbuttoned around a growing bump. Pick fabrics that stretch and recover, shoes that suit your feet as they are this month, and colors that mix easily. Accessories add personality without any fit worries. Dress like yourself, not like a trend, and you'll get much more wear from what you buy.
