A good two-person costume is one where people get the joke the moment you walk in together. Partners, best friends, siblings, roommates and coworkers can all pull it off. Below are forty pairs: well-known characters, classic spooky duos, food jokes and easy homemade ideas. The pairs I see land share a colour story, give each person a signature accessory, or use a prop that only makes sense with both of you. I've also noted the shoes, layers and makeup that hold up through a long party or a night of trick-or-treating, and most of these adapt for any gender, body type or budget from closet basics.

Splitting the Effort Fairly Between Two People
Most pairs on this list aren't equal. Jack and Sally both need face makeup; Men in Black needs none. A bee has wings and an antenna headband to manage while the beekeeper wears coveralls. Talk about this before you shop, because the person with the harder costume is the one fixing it in the bathroom halfway through the party.
- Decide who does the makeup and when. If one costume needs a full face, start it first and let the simpler costume get dressed while it sets.
- Agree on the shared colour before buying anything. Hold the two main pieces side by side in daylight; two reds that are close but not matching look like a mistake.
- Match the scale. If one of you has big wings or a tall hat, give the other a strong piece too, a cape, a bright wig or a big prop, or one costume swallows the other in photos.
- Plan the shoes together. A pair where one walks comfortably and the other limps in heels won't last the evening.
1. Angel And Devil Costume

Angel and devil works because the contrast does the explaining. The angel wears white head to toe, a dress, a jumpsuit or a shirt with matching pants, with feathered wings, a silver halo, soft shimmer and white sneakers or flats. Halos on a single spring wire tend to droop forward, so I bend the wire back a little before the night and pin the headband in at both sides. The devil goes red, a dress, a suit or matching separates, with a light black cape, a horn headband, red and black eye makeup, a pointed tail and black boots. Cloud and flame signs help in photos. Keep it cute rather than dark.
2. Barbie And Ken Costume

Barbie and Ken can follow whichever version you both like, as long as the pink ties you together. The classic split is a bright pink mini dress or jumpsuit for Barbie, with curled hair, glossy makeup, big sunglasses and platform heels or clean white sneakers, plus a little pink bag. Ken wears a striped beach shirt, pastel shorts, a blond wig or neatly styled hair and white loafers. The Western version puts you both in pink vests, flared pants, neck scarves and white boots. My advice for this pair: make sure Ken carries at least one pink piece, a scarf or a pocket square, or he reads as a man in shorts.
3. Mario And Luigi Costume

Mario and Luigi are the pair I suggest to anyone who wants to be comfortable for hours. Both start in blue denim overalls over long-sleeve shirts, red for Mario and green for Luigi. Add matching caps with felt initials, white gloves and brown boots or sneakers. Felt letters glued onto a polyester cap often peel, so I stitch them down with a few tacks. Washable brown makeup or a soft costume mustache handles the facial hair, and your own hair tucks under the caps, so no wigs. Plush mushrooms or painted foam blocks beat bulky props, and thermal shirts under the overalls keep you warm outside.
4. Shaggy And Velma Costume

Shaggy and Velma come mostly from the closet. Shaggy needs a loose green T-shirt, relaxed brown pants, sneakers, slightly messy hair and a touch of scruffy makeup on the jaw, plus a box of oversized dog treats. Velma is an orange turtleneck, a red pleated skirt, orange knee socks and red flats or loafers, with a short brown bob wig, square glasses and a warm peach lip. Her orange and red have to be close to the cartoon; rust or burgundy loses her. Give her a magnifying glass or a mystery notebook. The four colours together tell the story without much spending.
5. Daphne And Velma Costume

Daphne and Velma suit two people who both want colour. Daphne is a purple long-sleeve dress, a lighter purple headband, a green neck scarf, pink tights and purple flats or low boots, with soft red hair (a wig if needed), lavender eyes and a rosy lip. Velma takes the orange sweater, red skirt, knee socks and red loafers, plus the brown bob, bold square glasses and a few freckles. Daphne's green scarf is the piece people forget, and without it the purple reads as any party dress. Matching notebooks of harmless clues tie you together, and both come easily from thrift clothing.
6. Wednesday And Enid Costume

Wednesday and Enid is a best-friend pair built on opposites. Wednesday wears a black dress with a crisp white collar, black tights and chunky loafers, two long braids and pale matte makeup, with a small black book or a decorative cello case. Enid brings the colour: a striped pastel sweater, a pleated skirt, bright tights and platform sneakers, a blond wig with pink and blue ends, shimmery eyes, colourful nails and a fuzzy backpack. I'd keep both skirts the same length. Those matching school-style shapes are what connect two such different palettes.
7. Beetlejuice And Lydia Costume

Beetlejuice and Lydia combine stripes with dramatic red. Beetlejuice wears a black-and-white striped suit over a white shirt with black boots, messy pale hair, white face makeup with smoky grey shading, and a small handmade sign; keep the suit clean rather than distressed. Lydia's red look is a layered red dress, a sheer red veil and red flats or ankle boots, with dark hair in a spiky half-up shape, soft gothic makeup and a muted red lip, plus a small vintage-style camera. White face makeup creases on a warm night, so I press translucent powder in with a puff rather than sweeping it, and carry a compact. Shorter skirt layers help Lydia move.
8. Jack And Sally Costume

Jack and Sally reward people who like a handmade costume. Jack wears a black pinstripe suit, a white shirt, a bat-shaped bow tie and black shoes, with white face makeup, simple black eye shading and hair slicked back or under a smooth white cap. Sally wears a knee-length patchwork dress, striped tights and sturdy black ankle boots, a long red yarn wig or temporary red colour, pale blue makeup, drawn stitch lines and a fabric basket. Yarn wigs are heavy. I sew the yarn onto a stretchy cap in rows rather than bunching it all at the crown, so the weight spreads. Keep the stitches drawn clean, never graphic.
9. Woody And Buzz Costume

Woody and Buzz use bold colours and everyday clothes. Woody is a yellow plaid shirt, blue jeans, a cow-print vest, a red neck scarf, brown boots and a wide-brim cowboy hat, with a light rope loop fixed to the belt. Buzz is a white jumpsuit or white top and pants with green and purple felt panels, white sneakers, a purple hood, silver eye makeup and collapsible fabric wings. I cut Buzz's panels slightly bigger than feels right, because small felt pieces disappear at a distance. A cardboard control panel on the chest adds detail without stopping you moving, and neither of you needs a heavy mask.
10. Alice And Mad Hatter Costume

Alice and the Mad Hatter give you colour and texture. Alice wears a blue knee-length dress with a white apron, white tights, black Mary Janes and a black headband, with soft waves and pink cheeks, carrying a teacup or a fabric-covered storybook. The Hatter mixes a colourful tailcoat, a patterned vest, cropped trousers, bright socks and lace-up shoes with a vivid orange wig, an oversized top hat, playful eye makeup and a big bow tie, plus an empty teapot for photos. Mixing prints is where it goes wrong. I limit the Hatter to two or three colours repeated through every piece, which keeps him whimsical instead of cluttered.
11. Peter Pan And Tinker Bell Costume

Peter Pan and Tinker Bell share a green palette and simple handmade details. Peter wears a dark green tunic over brown leggings or slim pants, a brown belt, a pointed felt cap, tousled hair and comfortable ankle boots, with a fabric map instead of a toy weapon. Tinker Bell wears a light green dress with a petal-cut hem, sheer wings, a high blond bun, sparkly makeup and green flats with fluffy pom-poms, and a pouch of gold paper stars stands in for pixie dust. I'd pick wings that sit flat against the back, since stiff ones catch on chair backs and doorways at a crowded party.
12. Glinda And Elphaba Costume

Glinda and Elphaba suit a pair where one of you loves sparkle and the other prefers dramatic black. Glinda wears a full pink dress or layered pink skirt with a fitted top, a silver crown, soft curls, glowing makeup, glittery flats and a light star wand. Elphaba wears a long black dress with textured sleeves, a structured cape, a pointed hat and black lace-up boots, with a long dark braid or wavy wig. Her green face makeup has to cover the neck and ears evenly, and I always patch-test it on the inner wrist first. Set it with powder so it doesn't print onto Glinda's pink sleeve when you hug for photos. A vintage book instead of a broom keeps her hands free, and a little sparkle on Elphaba's cape links the two.
13. Ghostbusters Costume Duo

Two Ghostbusters are practical and easy to layer for chilly October weather. Each of you wears a tan utility jumpsuit, or a tan shirt with cargo pants, with handmade name patches and caution stripes on removable fabric tape. Black utility belts, grey packs with colourful tubing, and black combat boots or supportive sneakers. Hair pulled back or neatly styled, and a little grey soot makeup on the cheeks, no wounds. One carries a plush ghost, the other a cardboard detector. I build each pack on an empty school backpack with a light box glued to the front, which keeps the weight on proper straps. Leave real switches and battery packs at home.
14. Men In Black Costume

Men in Black is one of the fastest polished pairs there is. Both of you need black suits, crisp white shirts, black ties and black loafers or plain black sneakers, with neat hair and clean, minimal makeup. Matching dark sunglasses and small silver-painted cardboard devices carry the memory-erasing gag. One holds a black folder with an alien symbol, the other a small plush alien. The matching silhouettes do the work, with no wigs or crafting. In warm weather, black trousers and fitted vests replace the jackets. I'd keep the sunglasses on a cord or in a pocket, because they're hard to see through indoors and after dark.
15. Scooby-Doo And Shaggy Costume

Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are funny and relaxed, which suits a casual party. Shaggy wears a loose green T-shirt, brown pants, dark sneakers and messy hair, with a little scruffy makeup and a box labelled as giant snacks. Scooby is a brown hoodie and joggers with brown sneakers, soft felt ears, a flexible tail and a blue collar with a handmade diamond tag. I sew the ears onto the hood itself rather than a headband, so they move with your head and never slip. Warm brown face makeup around the nose and a few painted freckles. Skip full masks, which get hot and block your view. A plush sandwich is the shared prop.
16. Fred And Wilma Costume

Fred and Wilma rely on simple shapes and bold colour. Fred wears an orange tunic with black felt spots over blue shorts or leggings, a blue necktie, tousled dark hair, light brown shading on the jaw and brown sandals, carrying a soft foam club or a stone-patterned lunch box, nothing hard. Wilma wears a white one-shoulder dress, a chunky white bead necklace, a red bob wig, soft winged makeup and white flats. Cut both hems into rounded, uneven points for the cartoon line. Felt spots glued onto a stretchy tunic pucker when it stretches, so I tack them on with a few stitches. Knee length keeps you both moving.
17. Pac-Man And Ghost Costume

Pac-Man and a ghost turn an arcade game into a two-person costume. Pac-Man wears a yellow sweatshirt and pants with yellow sneakers and a big, light felt circle on the front, plus a yellow cap, golden eye makeup and a bag of white foam dots. The ghost picks a red, pink, blue or orange poncho with a scalloped hem, matching leggings and sneakers, a smooth hood or coloured wig, white-and-blue graphic eyes and a cardboard score prop. I'd cut the poncho from fleece, which doesn't fray at the scallops and needs no hemming. Avoid rigid boards that stop you sitting; sweatsuit bases keep it easy.
18. Ash And Pikachu Costume

Ash and Pikachu are lively and comfortable. Ash wears a blue vest over a white T-shirt, jeans, fingerless green gloves, a red-and-white cap and black high-tops, with dark hair in messy points and a red-and-white foam ball clipped to the belt. Pikachu is a yellow hoodie with leggings or joggers and yellow sneakers, black-tipped felt ears, a zigzag tail and brown back stripes, rosy cheek circles and a little black liner. The tail flops unless it's stiffened, so I sandwich thin foam between two felt layers before sewing. A short yellow wig is optional. Soft accessories and breathable fabric keep you both comfortable.
19. Sun And Moon Costume

Sun and moon is a celestial pair with no franchise attached. The sun wears gold, a dress, a jumpsuit or matching separates, with gold flats or sneakers, a radiant headband cut from craft foam, wavy golden hair, warm yellow eye makeup and a small sun-shaped bag. The moon wears silver or midnight blue with metallic boots, a crescent headpiece, cool silver makeup and dark hair dusted with shimmer, plus a star wand or constellation pouch. Matching celestial jewellery connects you. Long foam rays droop, so I keep them short and back each with a second layer. Reflective trim helps after dark.
20. Salt And Pepper Costume

Salt and pepper is cheap and funny. One of you dresses in white, a T-shirt, pants, sneakers and a beanie; the other wears the same in black. Add big felt letters to the shirts and cardboard shaker caps with contrasting circles on top. Hair tucks under the caps, and makeup follows each palette, silver highlight for salt and smoky grey for pepper. Carry small seasoning shakers as props. For a cylinder shape, wear fabric panels over the outfits but leave the arms and knees free. Cut pepper's letters in white felt, because grey vanishes on black. It's a good pick for two people who want equal effort.
21. Peanut Butter And Jelly Costume

Peanut butter and jelly is cheerful and easy. Peanut butter wears tan pants, a brown or tan sweatshirt, neutral sneakers and a brown beanie, with warm caramel makeup and a light cardboard jar label. Jelly goes purple or red with matching sneakers, a wig or hat and berry eye makeup, plus its own label. Both add bread-shaped foam panels on their backs, so the sandwich reads from every side. I attach those panels with wide elastic straps over the shoulders rather than glue or pins, so they sit flat and come off when you sit down. Soft plastic spreaders only, and matching white gloves give a cartoon finish.
22. Ketchup And Mustard Costume

Ketchup and mustard is my favourite bright last-minute pair. Ketchup is a red shirt, red pants or leggings, red sneakers and a pointed red cap; mustard is the same in yellow. Add white bottle-label panels and removable felt lettering so the clothes go back in the drawer afterwards. Hair tucks under the caps, or use matching temporary spray. Glossy red makeup for ketchup, sunny yellow liner and a neutral lip for mustard. A basket of felt fries is the shared prop. Foam collars at the shoulders give the bottle shape, as long as they leave your arms free, and the colour blocking reads across a crowded room.
23. Bee And Beekeeper Costume

A bee and a beekeeper pairs one playful look with one practical uniform. The bee wears a black-and-yellow striped top with a black skirt, pants or overalls, striped tights, black sneakers, sheer wings, an antenna headband, a high bun and yellow shimmer at the eyes. The beekeeper wears beige coveralls, work boots, gloves and a wide-brim hat with light mesh around the edge, hair tucked under and simple neutral makeup. I pin the mesh up at the front once you're indoors, since it blurs your view and makes eating impossible. A honeycomb bag or basket of plush flowers, and a yellow belt on the beekeeper links you.
24. Farmer And Scarecrow Costume

A farmer and scarecrow come almost entirely from the closet. The farmer wears denim overalls, a plaid shirt, work boots, a straw hat and braided or tied-back hair, with brown-liner freckles and a basket of artificial apples. The scarecrow wears patched overalls over a warm flannel shirt, a floppy hat and brown boots, with raffia at the cuffs. Raffia sheds everywhere, so I hot-glue small bundles inside the cuffs and hat brim instead of stuffing it in loose. Orange and brown makeup for a stitched smile and triangle nose, clean and non-graphic, and a fabric crow on one shoulder. Coordinate the plaids so you read as a pair.
25. Ringmaster And Circus Performer Costume

A ringmaster and circus performer bring bright theatre. The ringmaster wears black trousers, a white shirt, a red tailcoat, a gold-trimmed vest, tall black boots and a mini top hat, with defined brows, red lipstick and a ticket roll. The performer picks a colourful fitted jumpsuit or a layered tutu over opaque leggings with ankle boots, a curled ponytail or colourful wig, sparkly makeup, wrist cuffs and light juggling balls. Skip whips and fire props. Mini top hats slide off, so I sew a small comb inside the brim and add an elastic under the hair. Repeating red and gold across both unifies the pair, and stretch fabrics let you sit and dance.
26. Vampire Couple Costume

A vampire couple gives you classic drama without blood. One wears a black velvet dress with a burgundy cape, lace tights and black ankle boots, with glossy waves, pale foundation, smoky eyes, a deep red lip and small fangs. The other wears black trousers, a white ruffled shirt, a brocade vest, a long black cape and polished dress shoes, with slicked-back hair and soft grey contour. Matching red gem jewellery and antique-style books or battery candles connect you. Each cape should fasten with a hook or clip that rests on the shoulders, not the throat, and I check that both clear the ground by a few inches.
27. Skeleton Couple Costume

Matching skeletons are simple and look polished. Both start in black, jumpsuits, dresses or matching separates, then add white felt bones or skeleton-print clothing, black boots or sneakers and bone-print gloves. One can wear a sleek ponytail, the other neat hair or a black hood. The skull makeup is black and white, with shaded eyes, a dark nose and clean lines at the mouth, kept stylised. I apply the white base thinly in two layers, letting each dry, which cracks far less than one thick coat. Silver crowns or floral headpieces dress it up, and reflective white trim makes the bones show outdoors.
28. Ghost And Pumpkin Costume

A ghost and a pumpkin pair two of Halloween's oldest symbols. The ghost wears a flowing white poncho over white leggings with pale sneakers, a white hood or soft wig, silver eye makeup, rosy cheeks and a small lantern bag, with black felt ovals on the poncho for a face that never covers the eyes. The pumpkin wears an orange sweatshirt and pants, green sneakers, a green leaf collar, an orange bob wig or stem hat, copper makeup and a removable felt jack-o'-lantern face. Bring a candy bucket. White fabric shows every smudge, so I keep the ghost's makeup well away from the neckline. Keep both short enough not to drag.
29. Witch And Black Cat Costume

A witch and a black cat suit almost any age. The witch wears a black midi dress or a black blouse with a flowing skirt, striped tights, lace-up boots and a pointed hat, with loose waves, purple eye makeup and a small fabric spellbook. The cat wears a fitted black top with pants or a jumpsuit, black sneakers, felt ears and a flexible tail, a high ponytail, winged liner, a painted nose, whiskers and a little silver highlight, plus a collar with a moon tag. Matching purple accessories make two separate characters into a pair. This is the one I suggest for a parent and child, since both come from ordinary clothes.
30. Mummy And Archaeologist Costume

A mummy and an archaeologist tell a small adventure story without scares. The mummy wears beige leggings and a long-sleeve top wrapped loosely in off-white fabric strips, leaving knees, hands, face and shoes clear, with tan sneakers, hair dusted grey and soft beige shading. The archaeologist wears khaki cargo pants, a neutral button-up, brown hiking boots and a wide-brim hat, with tied-back hair, a canvas satchel, a rolled map, a soft brush and a cardboard artifact. I tea-stain the strips for age, then stitch or safety-pin the ends every few wraps, because wrapped strips loosen as soon as you start walking.
31. Pirate And Mermaid Costume

A pirate and a mermaid give you an ocean theme without restrictive tails or toy weapons. The pirate wears black pants, a white puff-sleeve shirt, a striped vest, a red sash, brown boots and a tricorn, with tousled hair, subtle smoky makeup, hoops and a folded treasure map. The mermaid wears a scale-print skirt with room to walk, a teal fitted top, iridescent flats and shell jewellery, beachy waves with temporary blue or purple and pearly makeup, plus a shell bag. Matching turquoise connects you, so I'd give the pirate a turquoise bead or scarf. Skip floor-length fins and heavy chests, which are hazards on stairs.
32. Alien And Astronaut Costume

An alien and an astronaut mix bright colour with a familiar uniform. The astronaut wears a white jumpsuit or white utility pants and jacket with silver tape and homemade patches, white sneakers, a clear lightweight helmet or silver headband, secured hair and a cardboard control panel. The alien wears a metallic green or silver jumpsuit, platform sneakers, an antenna headband and a bright bob wig, with green face makeup used sparingly, silver liner and tiny stars, plus a foam planet or spaceship purse. Silver tape lifts at the edges on stretchy fabric, so I only use it on stiff panels. Never wear a sealed helmet or a dark visor.
33. Cowboy And Cowgirl Costume

A cowboy and cowgirl pair is comfortable and works for any gender combination. One wears a plaid shirt, jeans, a suede vest, brown boots, a neck scarf and a wide-brim hat. The other chooses a denim skirt or flared jeans with a white blouse, a fringed vest, ankle boots and a contrasting hat. Braids, waves or a low ponytail, warm makeup and a few faux freckles. Belt buckles and light rope loops make good accessories, with matching bandanas or small stuffed horses instead of anything that looks like a weapon. Repeat denim, tan and one accent colour across both. I'd break in new boots first, because stiff Western boots rub at the heel fast.
34. 1920s Jazz Duo Costume

A twenties jazz duo is built on fringe, tailoring and metallic accents. One wears a knee-length fringed dress with opaque tights, T-strap shoes, a beaded headband, finger waves and red lipstick, with a feather fan or sequined bag. The other wears high-waisted trousers, a white shirt, suspenders, a vest, a bow tie and polished lace-ups, with slicked hair and a cardboard music-note prop, plus a boater if you like. Coordinate through black with gold or silver. Fringe dresses shed beads at weak seams, so I check the stitching before the night and knot any loose strands. Choose low heels if there's dancing.
35. 1970s Disco Costume Duo

A seventies disco pair is all colour and shine. One wears a metallic jumpsuit with a wide belt, platform boots, big curls, shimmery blue eyes and oversized hoops. The other wears flared pants with a patterned shirt, a fitted vest, tinted round glasses and platform loafers, with soft waves or a fluffy retro shape and a little shimmer. A mirrored ball purse or a cardboard record. Repeat one colour, purple or gold, across both. Test the flared hems before Halloween; I hem flares to just clear the floor in the shoes you'll actually wear, so nobody steps on fabric on the stairs or the dance floor.
36. 1980s Workout Costume Duo

Eighties workout gear is comfortable and easy to put together from stretch clothes. Both of you wear neon leggings or bike shorts under colourful leotards, oversized sweatshirts or fitted tanks, with leg warmers, sweatbands, scrunch socks and supportive white sneakers. High side ponytails, fluffy curls or a mullet shape, with bright blue, pink and purple eye makeup and rosy cheeks. Painted foam hand weights or water bottles. Each takes a different neon while matching the accessories. Cheap leotards can be thin, so I stretch-test them under a bright light and add opaque layers. Pin the headbands if you'll be dancing.
37. 1990s Grunge Costume Duo

A nineties grunge pair suits friends who'd rather look relaxed. Both layer oversized plaid flannels over plain band-style tees with distressed jeans and black combat boots or canvas sneakers; one adds a denim jacket, the other ties a second flannel round the waist. Loose, slightly messy waves or a casual shoulder-length wig. Smudged brown liner, matte skin and a muted lip. Old headphones, blank cassette cases or disposable-style cameras. Pick different plaids and repeat black denim and silver. It's one of the warmest pairs here, since loose layers trap heat without looking bulky.
38. Y2K Pop Star Costume Duo

A Y2K pop duo brings gloss and early-2000s shapes. One wears metallic cargo pants with a cropped layered top, tinted sunglasses, platform sneakers and a mini shoulder bag. The other picks a denim midi skirt or wide-leg jeans, a rhinestone cardigan, chunky shoes and a colourful newsboy cap. Butterfly clips, face-framing strands or high pigtails, frosted shadow, glossy lips and stick-on face gems. Toy microphones or blank mini CDs as props. Repeat silver or bubblegum pink across both. Face gems pop off with sweat, so I put a tiny dot of lash glue on the back of each. Skip low-rise pieces you'll keep hitching up.
39. Bob Ross And Painting Costume

Bob Ross and his painting only make sense together, which is the fun of it. Bob wears a pale blue button-up, relaxed jeans and brown shoes, a curly brown wig and a full costume beard, with natural makeup, a clean palette and a soft brush. The painting wears black leggings, a blue or green top and sneakers under a light rectangular cardboard frame, with removable felt mountains, trees, clouds and a stream. Green clips or a cloud headband blend the hair in. I cut the frame from a single sheet with the corrugation running vertically so it doesn't fold at the middle, and keep it narrow enough for doorways.
40. Tourist And Statue Of Liberty Costume

A tourist and the Statue of Liberty end the list on a joke. The tourist wears khaki shorts, a loud printed shirt, white socks, sneakers, sunglasses and a sun hat, with a belt bag, a folded city map and a light camera. Liberty wears a mint-green draped dress or a green top with a flowing skirt and matching flats, a foam crown, waved hair sprayed green, glowing makeup, a cardboard-and-tissue torch and a foam tablet. Green hair spray rubs off onto the dress and the tourist's shirt, so I keep it to the lengths and let it dry fully before dressing. Round off and shorten the crown points.
Cardboard, Foam and Felt Panels That Survive a Party
Salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly, Bob Ross's painting and Pac-Man all hang on a panel or shape worn over the clothes. In my experience the panel is usually the first thing to fail.
- Cardboard softens in rain and damp grass. If you'll be outside, give it a coat of clear sealant or wrap the edges in packing tape.
- Foam board is light but snaps if you sit on it. EVA foam bends and springs back, so I use it for anything worn on the front of the body.
- Hot glue lets go in cold air and on surfaces that bend. For straps and anything that carries weight, stitch it or use wide elastic instead.
- Felt letters and shapes stay put best on cotton. On slippery polyester, stitch around the edges or use a fabric glue made for synthetics.
Before the night, put the whole thing on, sit in a chair, walk through a doorway and hug your partner. If a panel catches on any of those, it will catch all evening.
Does Each Half Still Make Sense Alone?
At most parties you won't stand next to each other the whole time. Some pairs survive being split up: a Ghostbuster, a vampire or Mario all read on their own. Others don't. A painting without Bob Ross is a person in a cardboard frame, and a lone ketchup bottle is just someone dressed in red.
If you know you'll drift apart, give the weaker half one clear clue that works solo, such as a big label, a signature prop or a name patch. I'd rather add a small sign than spend the night explaining what I'm meant to be.
Stand Side by Side in the Mirror Before You Leave
A convincing pair doesn't need identical outfits or a boxed set. Repeated colours, makeup that follows the same palette and one prop that links you will connect two simple costumes. Think about the weather, the venue, how far you'll walk and how long you'll be wearing it, then put comfortable shoes and light accessories first. Every pair here adapts for couples, friends, siblings, coworkers or a parent and child. Pick the one that makes you both laugh, commit to it head to toe, and enjoy the entrance.
