Black hair is one of the most useful starting points in cosplay, because so many characters across anime, games, film, TV and animation share it. The list below runs from sleek school uniforms and red-carpet gowns to superhero suits and travel-worn adventure outfits. If your own hair is already black, plenty of these need nothing more than a brush and the right part; a wig earns its place when the character has razor bangs, a length you don't have, or coloured tips. For each character I've covered the clothes, hair, makeup, a safe prop and shoes you can actually stand in. I've also flagged where a thrifted garment, fabric paint or a bit of craft foam will stand in for something fiddly.

Deciding Between Your Own Hair and a Wig
Black hair looks simple until you hold it next to a character reference. Your own hair is the better choice when the length is close and the style is loose: worn straight, braided, or in a soft bob. It moves naturally, never shifts and costs nothing. I reach for a wig when the character needs blunt bangs cut to a ruler line, a length you'd need years to grow, coloured tips, or spikes that defy gravity.
What I check on any black wig
- Shade. Jet-black synthetic fibre can look flat and plasticky, while a soft or natural black reads as real hair in photos. Blue-black suits Raven and a few anime characters but looks odd on a live-action role.
- Shine. Hold it under your phone flash. If it bounces back almost white, dust it lightly with dry shampoo and brush it through.
- Heat. Only heat-resistant fibre can be pressed or curled, so test your iron on a hidden strand at the lowest setting first.
Whichever you choose, wear a wig cap close to your hair or skin colour, pin the wig at the temples and nape, and wear it around the house for an hour before the day. That hour is when you find the spot that itches or the clip that digs in.
1. Wednesday Addams Black Hair Cosplay

Wednesday is the character I suggest to anyone doing a first cosplay with black hair, because the silhouette does all the work. A knee-length black dress with a crisp white collar and cuffs is the classic version; a plain black dress over a white collared shirt gets you there from your own wardrobe. The braids are where people slip. Part the hair dead centre with the tail of a comb before you braid, since a wandering part is the first thing a camera catches. Keep the face pale and matte, with softly defined eyes and a muted berry lip. A small vintage-looking book or a black umbrella is enough of a prop. Black tights and chunky loafers will carry you through a long day, and for a modern take, swap the dress for a black striped blazer, pleated skirt and platforms.
2. Yor Forger Black Hair Cosplay

Yor's evening look is glamorous but surprisingly simple to put together. Look for a sleeveless black midi dress with a fitted bodice, high neck and flowing skirt. The gold rose earrings, slim gold headband and black fingerless gloves are what identify her, so I'd spend there before I spent on the dress. Her hair needs length: thick sections cross over the crown and pin behind the head, which is far easier on a smooth wig than on shorter natural hair. Rosy cheeks, red lipstick and a soft wing on the liner are all the makeup she needs. Skip the weapons and hold a structured black clutch or a single red rose. Opaque black tights and ankle-strap heels you've already broken in finish her off.
3. Nezuko Black Hair Cosplay

Nezuko lives or dies on the hair: extra-long black with warm orange ends. A wig with the ombré already dyed in gives the cleanest result. Temporary colour sprayed onto dark natural hair tends to look muddy rather than orange and rubs onto the coat collar, so test it on a hidden section first if you go that way. The clothes are layered, with a pink geometric-print robe or patterned dress under a dark brown coat, a red-and-white checked sash at the waist and a small pink ribbon on one side of the hair. Soft pink eyes, defined brows and a rosy lip keep the face young. Make the green bamboo mouthpiece light and easy to slip off, because you'll want to eat and talk. White leg wraps, dark socks and flat sandals or sandal-style shoes keep her practical.
4. Mikasa Ackerman Black Hair Cosplay

Mikasa suits anyone with short black hair who likes wearing layers. The base is a fitted white button-down, white trousers, a cropped tan jacket and brown knee-high boots. The harness is the piece I'd test most: put it on, sit down, climb a few stairs, and loosen anything that digs in, because those straps sit across the hips and thighs all day. Her deep red scarf matters more than any gear, and a simplified version still reads with it alone. Style a short bob with long side-swept bangs, or use a smooth layered wig. Natural makeup with lightly defined eyes and gentle contour is plenty. A small canvas satchel gives you a safe stand-in for action props and a place for your phone.
5. Kaguya Shinomiya Black Hair Cosplay

Kaguya is mostly a sewing-free build. A black long-sleeve dress, or a matching blouse and skirt, with a clean white sailor collar sets the uniform; add a bright red neck ribbon, black tights and polished loafers. Her hair is the part that takes care. It should be waist-length, smooth and straight with blunt bangs and a red ribbon tied at the back, and clip-in extensions can add length if your own hair stops at the shoulders. Match the extension shade in daylight, not bathroom light, since two different blacks show up clearly in photos. Even foundation, fine liner, rosy blush and a soft pink lip keep her composed. A notebook, planner or tiny teacup accessory and a structured black school bag round her out.
6. Yumeko Jabami Black Hair Cosplay

Yumeko reads quickly because of that red blazer trimmed in black. Wear it over a white button-down with a black ribbon tie, dark pleated skirt, opaque tights and brown or black loafers. Her hair falls straight past the chest with blunt bangs and light layering at the face. A soft-black wig looks more like real hair on camera than very shiny jet-black fibre, which can flash almost white under a ring light. Go bold on the eyes with red-toned shadow, sharp liner and defined lashes, then a glossy rose lip. A handful of oversized costume cards or a red notebook stands in for the gambling gear. Silver rings and a neat manicure matter more than you'd think, because her hands end up in every pose.
7. Sailor Mars Black Hair Cosplay

Sailor Mars is all about getting her colours exactly right. Start with a white sailor-style bodysuit, or a fitted top and pleated skirt, then add the red skirt, red collar, purple chest bow and red back bow. Elbow-length white gloves with red bands and a gold tiara with a red centre finish the uniform. If you're sewing the bows yourself, interface them; soft fabric bows droop by mid-afternoon. Her hair should be straight, glossy and nearly waist length with a clean centre part or soft front pieces. Red lipstick, a hint of purple shadow and light blush are enough. Wear red heels or comfortable red flats, and carry a small red compact or star-shaped purse as the prop.
8. Nico Robin Black Hair Cosplay

Nico Robin's travel outfit is one of the cooler options here if the venue runs warm. A fitted purple tank or sleeveless cropped blouse pairs with a matching wrap skirt, while the wide-brim white hat and purple-tinted sunglasses do the identifying. Carry a lightweight backpack or travel bag. Style long hair straight with a centre part and two sections framing the face. I'd pick a wig with natural movement over a very thick one, which tends to look like a helmet under a hat brim. Bronze shadow, defined lashes, warm blush and a muted rose lip suit her. An aged-looking notebook or rolled paper map fits her archaeology habit. Brown ankle boots or low western boots will be kinder to your feet than narrow costume heels.
9. Boa Hancock Black Hair Cosplay

Boa Hancock is the one to choose when you want to show off very long black hair. A floor-length red dress with long sleeves, a high side slit and a fitted waist is the base, with gold drop earrings and a white cape with shoulder details on top. Her hair should reach the lower back or waist, straight with a centre part. If it's a wig, pin it firmly before the cape goes on, because a cape collar drags on long fibre and can pull the cap back off your hairline. Arched brows, winged liner, long lashes and deep red lipstick give her the drama. A folding fan or gold-trimmed clutch makes a graceful prop. Hem the gown to clear your low red or gold heels so you never step on it.
10. Momo Yaoyorozu Black Hair Cosplay

I'd steer most people toward Momo's school uniform rather than her hero outfit; it's far easier to wear for hours. That means a gray blazer with green trim over a white shirt, a red necktie and a dark green pleated skirt, with knee-high black socks and brown loafers. Her big high ponytail with thick face-framing sections is the key. Build the volume with a clip-on ponytail extension wrapped over a small padding piece rather than heavy teasing, which knots synthetic hair and is miserable to brush out. Fine liner, peach blush and a soft coral lip keep her natural. A red reference book or a tidy school binder suits her. This version also passes most school-event dress rules and slots easily into an anime group.
11. Kanao Tsuyuri Black Hair Cosplay

Kanao pairs black hair with soft pink and purple touches. A dark fitted uniform top and pleated skirt go under a lightweight white cape, with white knee socks and simple dark ankle boots. Her side ponytail fades to purple at the ends. The green-and-pink butterfly clip is what people spot first, so place it high above the ponytail where it shows in photos. Lavender eyes, rosy cheeks and a pale pink lip keep the makeup gentle. A small floral pouch or butterfly notebook beats a sword as a prop. Light fabrics and a cape you can take off keep her comfortable in a crowded indoor space.
12. Rukia Kuchiki Black Hair Cosplay

Rukia's uniform is a straightforward layered build for short black hair. Wear a black wrap-front robe over a white underlayer, held with a wide white sash, then ankle-length trousers or a divided skirt underneath so you can walk properly. White socks and flat black sandals finish the base. Her bob is short and a little messy, with longer bangs sweeping between the eyes; matte wax separates the ends without turning them crunchy. Brown-black liner, subtle contour and a neutral lip are all she needs. A small sketchbook is a playful prop and a nod to her famously odd drawings. Check the robe hem in the shoes you'll wear, since a hem that clears the floor in socks can catch once you're walking.
13. Homura Akemi Black Hair Cosplay

Homura is about precision. Start with a white fitted jacket with black trim and a purple bow at the neck, then a short gray pleated skirt, black tights and low black heels or ankle boots. Her hair is dead straight to the waist with a sleek centre part and a narrow headband. Choose a heat-resistant wig so you can press flyaways with a low iron before you leave; standard synthetic fibre frizzes or melts at the first touch of heat. Cool lavender shadow, precise liner and a muted pink lip hold her serious expression. A round purple foam shield or a small purple clock purse is a nonthreatening prop. Press every pleat, because she looks wrong even slightly rumpled.
14. Nana Osaki Black Hair Cosplay

Nana's punk wardrobe is so wearable you may keep half of it afterwards. A black fitted tank, red plaid mini skirt, distressed black tights and a cropped faux-leather jacket form the base. Pile on silver-tone necklaces, a black choker, stacked bracelets and a narrow belt with metal hardware. Her short hair is choppy and textured with piecey bangs and lift at the crown, and matte pomade gives that separation. Makeup carries this costume: smoky liner, defined lashes, cool contour and deep berry lips. A microphone prop or lightweight guitar case is great for photos. Buckled ankle boots or chunky platforms finish her; add cushioned insoles if you'll be standing all day, because platforms feel hard by the afternoon.
15. Sawako Kuronuma Black Hair Cosplay

Sawako is a good first cosplay if your natural hair is already long and straight. A navy school blazer over a white button-down, a red ribbon tie, gray pleated skirt, black knee socks and classic loafers make the modest uniform. Her hair hangs smoothly past the chest with a centred fringe and long side sections, so resist adding volume; she should look a little too tidy. Use lightweight foundation, subtle gray shadow and a natural pink lip. For a funny photo, carry a small notebook or a removable white ghost-shaped accessory, a gentle joke about how her classmates misread her. A navy school bag makes the whole outfit feel lived in.
16. Tomie Black Hair Cosplay

This take on Tomie is mysterious without any horror effects, and it's built from elegant everyday clothes. Wear a fitted black turtleneck dress, or a white blouse tucked into a black pleated skirt, with sheer black tights, Mary Janes and a structured vintage handbag. Her hair is glossy, slightly wavy and side-parted, with a curl dropping near the cheek. The beauty mark under one eye is the detail that identifies her. I draw it with a freshly sharpened brown-black pencil and press a dab of powder over it so it doesn't smudge into a streak. Add soft winged liner, porcelain-finish foundation and deep red lipstick, and leave out wounds or gore. A compact mirror or single red flower is the prop, and the look is subtle enough for a party or a fashion-style shoot.
17. Tifa Lockhart Black Hair Cosplay

Tifa's classic outfit is sporty and easy to move in. You need a white fitted tank, a black pleated skirt or skort, black suspenders, fingerless gloves, black thigh-high socks and sturdy lace-up boots. Wear shorts under the skirt if it isn't a skort already. Her hair is straight and very long with a side part, gathered near the ends with a tie. Thigh-highs creep down over a long day, so I use silicone-banded socks or a little skin-safe sock adhesive. Soft smoky eyes, peach blush and a rose lip are enough. Swap the combat gear for a small crossbody pouch or a drink bottle with a star charm. Cushioned boots and breathable fabric make her a sensible pick for outdoor photos.
18. Ada Wong Black Hair Cosplay

Ada's red dress is sleek and very spy. Look for a knee-length red dress with a high neckline, a fitted shape and a subtle side slit, and wear black fitted shorts underneath for coverage. Sheer tights, black gloves and low black pumps or heeled ankle boots come next. Her short black bob is asymmetrical, with side-swept bangs over part of the forehead. Go light on shine spray; too much makes synthetic or natural hair look wet under flash. Precise liner, defined lashes, soft contour and classic red lipstick do the rest. A slim black phone case, an ID badge or a compact clutch replaces the action props. A removable black shoulder harness hints at her original styling and keeps her suitable for public events.
19. Faith Connors Black Hair Cosplay

Faith suits short black hair and anyone who wants to walk all day without thinking about the costume. Wear a white racerback tank and fitted black cargo pants with a bold red stripe or red belt, a cropped black vest, one red fingerless glove and light red running shoes. Her pixie cut has longer side-swept bangs, and a short wig recreates the shape with very little styling. Clean foundation, black liner and the small red mark near one eye finish the face. I paint that mark with a fine brush and red cream liner, then powder it, because a pencil line smears the first time you wipe sweat away. A white messenger bag with red details doubles as storage. Stretch fabric and real running shoes make her one of the most comfortable costumes here.
20. Bayonetta Black Hair Cosplay

Bayonetta's first-game look is the most demanding build on this list, mainly because of the hair. A fitted black jumpsuit with subtle silver designs, flared sleeves and a high neck forms the base, with long gloves, black heeled boots, chains and red ribbon accents. The towering hairstyle needs a sculpted wig over hidden padding and firm but flexible spray. Keep that padding light, or the whole wig tips backward by midday. Her red rectangular glasses are what make her readable, so don't skip them. Sharp brows, violet shadow, long lashes and a small beauty mark complete the face. Carry a decorative black book or red compact. If a full bodysuit feels too restrictive, a fitted black top and matching high-waisted pants breathe much better.
21. Mavis Black Hair Cosplay

Mavis is cute and very easy on the wearer. A simple black mini dress or long tunic goes over black-and-red striped tights, with red high-tops and black wrist-length gloves if you want the extra detail. Her bob is short and rounded with blunt bangs and slightly pointed ends, which you can get with a lightweight bob wig or by shaping short hair with a flat iron and smoothing cream. Pale foundation, soft smoky eyes, rosy lips and small removable fangs keep her family-friendly. Try the fangs on before the day; cheap ones can make you lisp and slip when you talk. A tiny bat-shaped bag holds your essentials, and fitted black shorts under the dress add coverage.
22. Snow White Black Hair Cosplay

Snow White suits short black hair, and her colour blocking does most of the work. Wear a royal blue fitted bodice with pale blue puff sleeves and red accent panels, a full yellow skirt at midi or ankle length, and a high white collar. A short red cape is handy on cooler days. Stiffen that collar with interfacing so it stands up instead of flopping onto your shoulders. Shape the hair into a smooth chin-length bob with the ends curled under, then add a red bow headband. Rosy cheeks, softly defined eyes and bright red lips keep her fresh. Carry a red apple-shaped purse rather than a real apple. Yellow flats or low red heels are best, and a small petticoat gives volume without the walking trouble of a full hoop.
23. Edna Mode Black Hair Cosplay

Edna is a witty choice you can mostly assemble from stylish everyday pieces. Find a sculptural black tunic dress with a high neckline and a flared or textured skirt, then add opaque tights, chunky black shoes and oversized round black glasses. The bob is sharp, near the jaw, with dead-straight bangs. A geometric wig gives the cleanest line, though a natural bob can be pressed flat with an iron and set with firm spray. Matte skin, bold brows, a neutral lip and light contour suit her. Being a costume person myself, I love giving her a tape measure, sketchbook or fabric swatches to carry. Keep jewellery minimal, since the glasses and hair already say everything. The loose dress and flat shoes make her one of the comfiest options here.
24. Violet Parr Black Hair Cosplay

Violet's suit is simple to build. A red long-sleeve athletic top with black detailing and matching red leggings, black briefs-style shorts over them, elbow-length gloves and tall black boots. The yellow-and-black emblem goes on the chest. Fabric paint stays flexible on stretch fabric, while felt glued to a stretchy top usually peels at the edges once you move, so stitch felt down if you use it. Her straight hair falls past the shoulders and partly covers her face. Add a simple black eye mask, neutral makeup and lightly defined brows, and skip rigid plastic masks that narrow your view. A small red belt bag carries essentials and disappears into the costume.
25. Shego Black Hair Cosplay

Shego wants long, thick black hair and a lot of attitude. A fitted jumpsuit works, or combine a green long-sleeve top and black leggings and add asymmetrical black panels cut from stretch fabric. Black gloves, a utility-style belt and sturdy black boots finish the base. Her hair is slightly tousled with a dramatic side part, and green clips echo the suit without any dye. Arched brows, smoky green shadow, black liner and a muted green or neutral lip give her the edge. Lightweight green foam shapes near the wrists suggest her glowing hands without anything hazardous. Pick breathable stretch fabric; a full synthetic catsuit gets hot fast indoors.
26. Raven Black Hair Cosplay

Raven's hooded look suits a short black or blue-black bob. Wear a long-sleeve black or deep navy leotard over opaque tights, a purple hooded cape and matching ankle boots, and the wide belt with red circular accents gives her signature finish. Style the hair to a sharp chin-length bob with a centre point at the forehead, using temporary blue-black spray if you like. Spray before the cape goes on, because it transfers onto the hood lining. Lavender shadow, dark liner, sculpted brows and plum lipstick set her cool tone. The red oval jewel goes on the forehead with skin-safe adhesive, and I'd patch-test that adhesive the day before. A small purple book or star-shaped purse is the prop. Keep the cape off the floor so nobody steps on it in a crowd.
27. Azula Black Hair Cosplay

Azula commands attention without a single action prop. A deep red fitted tunic with gold trim and angular shoulders goes over dark red leggings or narrow trousers, with a wide black-and-gold belt and brown knee-high boots. Her hair sits in a high topknot with two long pieces framing the face. I'd cut the flame hairpiece from lightweight foam and anchor it with two bobby pins crossed in an X so it doesn't wobble. Sharp brows, warm bronze shadow, clean liner and deep red lipstick suit her. A folded blue fan or red scroll works for photos. Give the shoulders and waist enough ease to sit and pose; structured shoulders that fit too tightly ride up the moment you lift your arms.
28. Luffy Black Hair Cosplay

Luffy is one of the easiest builds here, for any gender. A sleeveless red vest, medium-wash denim shorts, a yellow sash at the waist and brown sandals or flats with secure heel straps. His hair is short and messy with chunky spikes, done with matte paste or a tousled short wig. The straw hat with a red band matters most. Buy one that sits snug, or add a chin cord or a strip of foam inside the band, because a loose straw hat blows off outside and slides over your eyes inside. Keep makeup minimal: lightly defined brows and a small curved line under one eye. A folded map or compact canvas backpack fits his explorer mood.
29. Levi Ackerman Black Hair Cosplay

Levi is clean and tailored. Pair a white button-down and white fitted trousers with a cropped tan jacket with simple patches, then add a brown harness, dark waist wrap and knee-high brown boots. As with Mikasa, wear the straps around the house first and loosen anything that pinches; they should never restrict circulation. His hair is short at the sides with longer centre-parted layers falling toward the eyes, so a wig with a natural hairline helps, or you can style a tapered cut with matte wax. Light contour, cool brown shadow and straight brows keep the face understated. A white cleaning cloth and a small teacup make funny, safe props. A fitted crossbody pouch holds your phone, and a stain pen in it is wise, because white trousers show everything.
30. Sebastian Michaelis Black Hair Cosplay

Sebastian is simply a black suit done very well. You need a fitted tailcoat or long blazer, matching trousers, a crisp white dress shirt, black vest, slim black tie, white gloves and polished dress shoes. His hair is short and layered with long bangs across the forehead and slightly pointed ends around the face; smoothing cream first, then a small amount of wax. Pale foundation, subtle contour, defined eyes and a neutral lip. A silver tray, folded napkin or teacup reinforces the butler role. Lint shows on black suiting under flash, so I keep a lint roller in a pocket for this one. Red cosmetic contact lenses are optional and should only be worn when properly fitted and approved by an eye-care professional.
31. Megumi Fushiguro Black Hair Cosplay

Megumi's dark school uniform is an easy build for short, spiky black hair. Wear a high-collared navy or near-black jacket with matching fitted trousers, black socks and comfortable black ankle boots or athletic shoes. The hair is the defining feature, with thick spikes pointing out in several directions. A layered wig is the reliable route; natural hair can be shaped with a blow-dryer, matte paste and light hairspray, though it rarely holds the spikes as long. Straight brows, gray-brown shadow and a matte lip are enough. Skip combat props and pose with a small black school bag or a folded reference card. The all-dark outfit is easy to thrift and alter, but check in daylight that your navy and black pieces don't look like two different colours.
32. Zuko Black Hair Cosplay

Zuko's later red uniform is a layered look people know well. Wear a dark red wrap-front tunic over black trousers and a fitted long-sleeve undershirt, with a wide brown belt, gold edging and sturdy brown boots. His hair can be short and textured or tied in a small topknot, depending on the version you prefer. For the scar, I keep it to skin-safe red and mauve makeup blended softly around one eye, with no raised texture or graphic effects. Patch-test those colours on your inner wrist first, since the skin around the eye is sensitive. Carry a rolled training scroll, red folding fan or small teacup. Cotton twill rather than heavy synthetic fabric keeps this structured costume cooler indoors.
33. Roy Mustang Black Hair Cosplay

Roy Mustang depends on clean tailoring. Choose a royal blue double-breasted jacket and matching trousers with silver trim and decorative buttons, a white shirt underneath and black dress shoes or ankle boots. His hair is short, neatly layered and slightly tousled across the forehead, styled with a light matte product that still moves. Subtle contour, defined brows and soft brown liner keep him camera-ready. His white gloves carry red circles, which I'd paint with fabric paint through a simple stencil, keeping the symbols decorative. A blue folder, paperwork or an ID card makes a safe prop. Steam the uniform before you wear it; crisp lines are what make a military jacket look real.
34. Sasuke Uchiha Black Hair Cosplay

Sasuke's early outfit centres on spiky black hair and a blue-and-white palette. Wear a high-collared navy short-sleeve shirt, white knee-length shorts, blue wrist warmers, a small thigh pouch, open-toe shinobi-style boots and white leg wraps. The back of his hair sticks out in sharp spikes, with pointed bangs at the front. Use a thick wig and a lightweight styling glue that holds without heavy shine, and build the spikes on a wig head the night before so they fully set. Dark brows, cool contour and clean liner. A rolled practice scroll or small navy backpack takes the place of weapons. The stretch shorts and flat footwear make him easy to pose and walk in, and he fits into almost any group.
35. Jon Snow Black Hair Cosplay

Jon Snow is the one I'd pick for a cold night. A black long-sleeve tunic and dark fitted trousers go under a faux-leather vest and a heavy black cloak trimmed with soft gray faux fur, then a wide belt, textured gloves and weathered black boots. His hair is shoulder length, naturally curly and pushed loosely back; use curl cream or a wavy black wig with a realistic hairline. Cool contour, slightly darkened brows and a neutral lip give the windswept face. A rolled map, battery lantern or faux-fur satchel takes the place of a sword. Choose a breathable cloak lining, because a heavy cloak turns into a sauna the moment you step inside.
Getting Spikes, Bobs and Ponytails to Hold Until Evening
Hair shape is where black hair cosplays fall apart by the afternoon. A sleek bob flips out, spikes droop and a giant ponytail slides down the back of the head. Humidity, sweat and a hood or hat do most of the damage, so I plan for all three.
Spikes for Luffy, Megumi and Sasuke
Style them on a wig head the night before. Work in small sections, tease only at the root, then use a strong-hold glue or gel and let it dry completely. Mist hairspray over the outside at the very end; spraying while the product is wet makes spikes clump together.
Sharp bobs for Edna, Ada, Mavis and Rukia
Press the ends flat with a low iron on heat-resistant fibre, then add a light mist of hairspray. Carry a small comb, because one quick pass at lunchtime fixes most flips.
Big ponytails for Momo and Kanao
Anchor a clip-on ponytail to a small bun of your own hair or a pinned base, never to loose hair. Clipped onto smooth hair, it will slide down within an hour.
Black Fabric Is Rarely the Same Black Twice
Most costumes here are made from several black pieces bought in different places, and under a camera flash they seldom match. Washed cotton fades toward brown or gray, polyester stays deep with a slight sheen, and velvet looks darker than anything beside it. Lay all your pieces together near a window before you commit. If one is off, put it where it matters least, such as under a cape or jacket. Black fabric dye can refresh faded cotton, but it won't take on polyester. And keep a lint roller in your bag, because dust, pet hair and stray wig fibres show up on black more than on any other colour.
One Hairstyle and One Signature Colour
Most of these characters come down to one recognisable hairstyle backed by the right colours and silhouette. If your natural hair already matches the length and texture, use it, and save a wig for sharp bobs, huge ponytails, coloured tips and spikes that need to defy gravity. Get the signature colours right first, then add one or two details people will spot from across a room. After that it's all comfort: shoes you've walked in, props that stay put and layers you can breathe in. School uniforms, gowns and adventure outfits are all here, so there's a character for every skill level and budget.
