A group costume works when everyone gets a role people can name and the whole crew still reads as one idea from across the street. Pop-culture trios are the obvious starting point this year, but music groups, cartoon squads, film casts and simple colour themes handle bigger crews better. When I help a group plan, the shared palette and the shoes get sorted first, then hair, makeup and a few light props. Everything below has to survive a party, a campus event or a long trick-or-treat walk, and most of it can come from closets and thrift racks. Some are glamorous, some are silly, some are cute and a few are a little spooky, and I've noted where a theme stretches to more people or shrinks to three.

Casting the Group Before Anyone Buys a Thing
In my experience, group costumes fall apart over casting more often than over sewing. Two friends want the same character, one person agrees to the role nobody else wanted, and by Halloween she's quietly wearing jeans and ears. I sort the roles out in one chat before a single item gets bought.
- Count heads honestly, including the friend who might come. Pick a theme with a spare role or an easy add-on character.
- Let everyone name two characters they'd happily play. Overlaps usually resolve themselves once people see the list.
- Agree on the shared thread: a colour, a fabric, a hair accessory or a prop that every costume repeats.
- Set a rough budget range out loud. It stops one person from turning up in a full rented costume beside four thrift builds.
- Check footwear and walking distance. A group is only as fast as the slowest pair of platforms.
Once roles are settled, I like a shared photo album where each friend drops her pieces as she finds them. You'll notice clashing shades or a missing headpiece weeks before the party instead of in the hallway.
1. HUNTR/X Trio Costume

Rumi, Mira and Zoey from KPop Demon Hunters make the most current trio here, and the fun is that nobody has to match exactly. I give each friend her own performance outfit and then repeat purple, black, gold and something iridescent across all three. Cropped jackets, fitted tops, cargo pants, pleated skirts or shorts over coloured tights all fit the brief. Long ponytails, braids or space buns take clip-in coloured extensions well. Shimmer, graphic liner and a few face gems carry the stage look without heavy effects. Platform sneakers, headset mics, metal cuffs and a light glowing prop finish it. Clip-in extensions are heavier than they look, so I anchor them below a small braid rather than on loose hair.
2. Spice Girls Group Costume

Five friends, five very different wardrobes, and every one of them is easy to find. Scary wears animal print, big textured curls, gold hoops and platform boots. Sporty takes track pants, a cropped athletic top, a high ponytail and sneakers. Baby is a pastel mini dress, pigtails, knee socks and platforms. Ginger wears a red, white and blue dress with bright red hair, and Posh closes the line in a sleek black mini, straight dark hair and simple heels. Handheld mics and bold '90s makeup tie them together, along with those platforms. Sporty is the one who usually feels underdressed, so I give her the boldest stripe tracksuit I can find.
3. Wicked Character Group Costume

Wicked stretches nicely past two people. Elphaba wears a long black dress, a pointed hat, dark boots, braided or wavy black hair and soft green face makeup; Glinda takes a pink tulle gown, a sparkly crown, a curled blonde wig and silver flats. Madame Morrible looks right in a structured purple dress with a big updo, gloves and a jewelled brooch. Anyone else becomes a Shiz student in a navy blazer, pleated skirt, knee socks and loafers, carrying books, luggage or a wand. Green face paint is the step most people underestimate. I'd patch-test it the day before and press setting powder over it, or the green ends up on Glinda's pink sleeve by midnight.
4. Powerpuff Girls Trio Costume

Three colours and one cartoon silhouette: Powerpuff Girls are about as simple as group costumes get. Blossom wears a pink dress with a red bow, an orange ponytail, white knee socks and black Mary Janes. Bubbles takes a blue dress, blonde pigtails, matching hair ties, white tights and flats. Buttercup wears green with a short black wig, dark tights and black shoes. Thick graphic liner and a small matching bag for each girl finish it. For warmth or coverage, swap the dresses for coloured tops and skater skirts. The black waistband is the detail that makes it look like the cartoon, so I add a wide band of black ribbon or elastic to all three, even on the swapped versions.
5. Sailor Scouts Group Costume

Sailor Scouts scale from five friends to a much bigger crew, which is why I keep it on the list for large groups. Sort out Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus first: white sailor-collar tops with pleated skirts in blue, red, green and orange, plus matching bows, elbow gloves and knee-high boots or low heels in each girl's shade. Hair tells the characters apart more than the uniform does: blonde buns with long tails, a short blue wig, long black hair, a high brown ponytail and a blonde bow. Fresh makeup with coloured liner, light tiaras and small compacts do the rest. Thrifted sailor tops rarely come in matching whites, so I check them side by side in daylight before cutting anything.
6. Barbie Movie Group Costume

Barbie gives a group almost unlimited room, since every friend can be a different version. One wears a pink gingham dress, blonde waves, a bow and matching heels. Another goes metallic cowgirl with flared pants, a vest, boots and a white hat. Roller-skating Barbie takes a neon leotard, a visor, knee pads and bright sneakers, and President Barbie wears a sparkly gown, a sash and jewellery. Weird Barbie gets a painted dress, mismatched leggings, teased hair and comfy boots. Rosy cheeks and glossy lips go on everyone. Pinks clash more than people expect, so I ask each friend to bring her pink piece to one meeting and drop the shade that fights the others.
7. Disney Princess Group Costume

Princess groups go wrong when everybody shows up in a hoop skirt and nobody can fit through a door. I steer friends toward knee-length or maxi dresses instead. Cinderella wears pale blue with a bun and sparkly flats; Belle takes gold with half-up brown hair and a rose. Ariel mixes sea-green and purple with long red hair, Snow White pairs a blue top, yellow skirt, red headband and low heels, and Rapunzel wears lavender with a flower-trimmed braid. Soft, glowy makeup suits all of them. Coordinated crowns, small bags and comfortable shoes are what let a princess group last a full evening.
8. Monster High Group Costume

Monster High lets a group share a school-uniform base while each friend gets her own monster. Draculaura wears pink and black with hearts, high pigtails, pale makeup and platform boots. Frankie Stein takes black-and-white hair, a plaid dress or uniform, silver accessories and stitch lines drawn in liner, no realistic wounds. Clawdeen wears purple animal print, a cropped jacket, big brown hair, ears and heeled boots. Lagoona goes aquatic with wavy blonde hair, shimmer and fin-shaped jewellery. School bags or notebooks make easy props. Two-tone wigs like Frankie's tangle where the colours meet, so I brush them in sections and keep a travel comb in someone's bag.
9. Bratz Doll Group Costume

Bratz is about proportion: big shoes, big hair, small bags. Each friend picks her own palette and wears a fitted top with a mini or cargo skirt or flared pants, plus chunky platforms. Long straight wigs, crimped hair, high ponytails or face-framing streaks set each girl apart. The makeup is bold liner, long lashes, shimmery lids, strong brows and glossy lips. Tiny shoulder bags, tinted sunglasses, faux-fur jackets and fun jewellery finish things. A Yasmin in earth tones, a Cloe in denim, a Sasha in metallics and a Jade in punk pieces make a balanced line. I'd sacrifice an inch of platform for a sole everyone can walk in; the look still reads.
10. Mean Girls Pink Group Costume

The Plastics are a pink-on-pink group, so the challenge is keeping four pinks from blurring into one. Regina wears a pink cardigan, fitted top, plaid skirt, blonde waves and low heels. Gretchen takes a pink sweater, a pleated mini, big brown hair and a statement necklace. Karen wears a fitted pink dress, loose blonde hair and strappy shoes, and Cady goes slightly off in a pink polo with jeans or a plain skirt. Glossy makeup, small bags, notebooks and a printed Burn Book prop finish the set. I vary the shade on purpose, from pale to hot pink, so each girl reads separately. For school, longer skirts, opaque tights and cardigans keep the famous Wednesday theme intact.
11. Clueless Trio Costume

This trio is Cher, Dionne and Tai, and plaid does the coordinating for you. Cher wears a yellow plaid blazer and skirt, white knee socks, blonde hair and black Mary Janes. Dionne takes black-and-white plaid with a statement hat, braids, knee-high socks and platforms. Tai is her post-makeover outfit: a fitted cardigan, plaid skirt, red hair and loafers. Mini backpacks, fluffy pens, retro phone props and little shopping bags make good props. Makeup stays fresh with brown liner, rosy blush and a neutral lip. On a cold night, fitted turtlenecks and tights go underneath. I keep the three plaids in different colours but similar scale, so the patterns look related instead of competing.
12. Scooby-Doo Girl Gang Costume

An all-girl Mystery Inc. fits five, and you can play the roles straight or gender-swapped. Daphne wears a purple dress, green scarf, red wig and lavender shoes. Velma needs an orange sweater, red pleated skirt, bobbed wig, glasses, knee socks and loafers. Fred is a white sweater, a blue skirt or trousers, an orange neck scarf and a blonde wig. Shaggy wears an oversized green shirt, brown pants, messy hair and sneakers, and Scooby takes a brown dress or sweatsuit with spotted ears, a tail and a teal collar. Magnifying glasses and a cardboard mystery map tie the gang together. Scooby is the one I'd give the warmest base, since a sweatsuit can hide thermals and still look right.
13. Wizard Of Oz Group Costume

Oz has enough characters for almost any group size. Dorothy wears a blue gingham dress over a white blouse, braided pigtails, ankle socks and sparkly red flats. Glinda takes a pink gown, a curled blonde wig, a crown, a wand and silver shoes she can walk in. The Wicked Witch wears a long black dress, striped tights, a pointed hat, boots and softly blended green makeup. The Scarecrow is patchwork overalls, a plaid shirt, a floppy hat, braids and brown boots. Extra friends join as the Tin Woman, the Cowardly Lion or Munchkins. Dorothy's red flats are what people look for, so I'd add glitter with a spray adhesive outdoors and let it cure overnight before wearing.
14. Alice In Wonderland Group Costume

Wonderland characters come in loud, easy colours, so most of this group shops from regular racks. Alice wears a blue dress, a white apron, a black headband, white tights and Mary Janes. The Queen of Hearts takes a red-and-black dress, a heart crown, strong red lipstick and ankle boots. The Mad Hatter wears bright trousers, a vest, an oversized bow tie, a top hat, curled hair and lace-up shoes. The White Rabbit is white with ears, a red jacket, a clock and flats, and the Cheshire Cat wears purple-and-pink stripes with ears, a tail and playful face makeup. The Hatter's top hat is the piece that slides, so I pin it to the hair at a slight tilt, which also looks more in character.
15. Women Superhero Group Costume

A superhero group is easy to make comfortable if you skip the shiny bodysuits. I build each hero from a fitted long-sleeve top, leggings or a skater skirt, a cape and sturdy boots. Wonder Woman wears red, blue and gold with a tiara and dark waves. Supergirl takes blue and red with a cape and blonde hair. Batgirl wears black and yellow with a mask and utility-style belt, and Captain Marvel uses navy, red and gold with sleek hair and ankle boots. Keep props to shields, badges and comic-style accessories. Capes cut from stretchy knit cling and twist; a woven fabric like poplin hangs straighter and still packs small.
16. Women Villain Group Costume

A villain group gets all the drama without needing anything gory. Cruella wears a split black-and-white wig, a spotted coat, red gloves and heeled boots. Harley Quinn takes a red-and-black jacket, shorts over tights, high pigtails and combat boots, no weapon. Poison Ivy wears a green dress, a leaf-trimmed cape, red hair, vines and matching shoes. Maleficent goes for a flowing black gown, a horned headpiece, purple eye makeup and boots, and an Ursula-style look uses a black dress, white wig, purple makeup and shell jewellery. Bold liner, statement collars and jewel tones link them. Horned headpieces pull backwards, so I weight the front of the band or pin it under the hair at both temples.
17. Greek Goddess Group Costume

Goddesses suit a large group because one draped silhouette repeats cleanly and only the colour and prop change. Aphrodite wears blush pink with loose waves, pearls and a shell clutch. Athena takes a white or gray gown, a gold headband, a structured cape, a book and flat sandals. Artemis wears silver with moon jewellery, a braided ponytail and comfy boots. Demeter goes sage green with wheat-style hair clips and a little basket, and Hera wears deep blue or purple with a crown and peacock colours. Gold cord belts and cuffs go on everyone. Draped jersey is easiest to wear for hours, but it shows every pin, so I tack the shoulders with a few hand stitches instead.
18. Colorful Fairy Group Costume

Fairies let every friend pick her own colour while the silhouette stays the same, which makes them very forgiving for mixed groups. Start with pastel dresses, fitted tops over tulle skirts or matching jumpsuits in pink, blue, green, purple and yellow, then add light wings, flower crowns, shimmer and coloured extensions. Give each fairy her own nature prop: a silk flower, a watering can, a butterfly wand or a pouch of paper stars. Ballet flats, lace-up sandals or clean sneakers beat high heels here. Repeat iridescent fabric and face gems across the group. Big wings get crushed in crowds, so I pick compact wire or fabric pairs that sit close to the shoulder blades.
19. Mermaid Group Costume

A mermaid group is built on iridescent skirts and jewel-toned tops, one ocean colour per friend: turquoise, coral, lavender, sea green and deep blue. Sequin pencil skirts, flared fishtail skirts or scale-print leggings pair with fitted shell-style tops or cropped cardigans. Loose waves, braids or ponytails take pearl and star clips nicely. Shimmer eyeshadow, pearly highlighter and face gems create the underwater look without full face paint. Shell purses, netted shawls and small ocean props finish it, no tridents needed. A tight fishtail skirt stops you climbing stairs, so I suggest a skirt with a kick pleat or a flared hem that starts at the knee, plus metallic flats or low boots.
20. Sun Moon And Stars Group Costume

Three friends can do sun, moon and stars, but the idea grows easily into a whole sky. The sun wears a gold dress, a radiant crown, warm metallic makeup and gold ankle boots. The moon takes silver or white layers, a crescent headpiece, cool shimmer and silver flats. Stars wear navy, black or midnight blue with metallic appliqués, sparkly clips and comfortable boots. Bigger groups add planets, clouds, a comet or the night sky itself. Glittery liner and metallic belts link the set. Battery fairy lights look great on a crown or bag, but I tape the battery pack inside a pocket so it isn't swinging around all night.
21. Rainbow Color Group Costume

A rainbow fits any number of people: give each friend one colour and dress her in it head to toe. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple each get a monochrome dress or matching separates, tights and shoes, plus a wig, bow, eyeshadow and small bag in the same shade. One friend becomes a cloud in a white tulle skirt and a fluffy headband, and another wears gold as the pot at the end. Matching makeup placement and repeated shapes keep it looking like a costume instead of a colour-themed party. I line the group up in rainbow order before the first photo; out of order, it just looks like bright clothes. It's cheap, comfortable and mostly built from what people already own.
22. Crayon Box Group Costume

Crayons give a big group a neat, uniform line. Each friend picks a solid dress, a T-shirt with leggings or a sweatsuit in red, blue, green, yellow, purple or orange, then adds black felt bands at the sleeves and hem to read as a wrapper. Pointed hats come from coloured poster board held on with comfortable elastic. Matching eyeshadow, temporary hair colour and sneakers in each shade finish it, with a cardboard label showing a silly crayon name. One person can wear a decorated box, as long as everyone can still move and see. Poster-board cones crease the first time someone hugs you, so I roll them around a tube first and staple the seam on the inside.
23. M&M Candy Group Costume

M&Ms are my last-minute group answer, since all you really need is one coloured top per person. Give out red, yellow, green, blue, orange and brown. Each friend wears a solid T-shirt, sweatshirt or simple dress with a big white felt "M" on the front, plus white gloves, white sneakers and leggings or tights in the same colour. Coloured eyeshadow, hair ribbons and small round bags finish it, and hoodies with joggers replace dresses on a cold night. Felt glued to cotton jersey peels off when the shirt stretches; a few running stitches around the letter fix that in ten minutes. Keep the shapes similar and let hair and accessories do the personal part.
24. Care Bears Group Costume

Care Bears are the coziest idea in this list: pastel sweatsuits, soft ears and a belly badge. Choose Cheer, Grumpy, Funshine, Good Luck and Tenderheart, and put each friend in a pink, blue, yellow, green or brown hoodie with matching joggers and sneakers. Cut the rainbow, cloud, sun, clover or heart from felt and stitch it onto a white fabric circle on the tummy. Small round ears, a pom-pom tail, rosy cheeks and coloured eye makeup finish it, and mittens help when it's cold. I'd sew the belly circle on rather than iron it, because fusible webbing tends to bubble on fleece. It suits every body type and stays comfortable for a long party.
25. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Group Costume

Turtles fit exactly four friends and share one base, so the group looks planned even if each person shops alone. Start with green jumpsuits, fitted tees with cargo pants or dresses over leggings. Add a light brown shell backpack and a tan felt chest panel. Leonardo wears blue, Donatello purple, Raphael red and Michelangelo orange, repeated on fabric eye masks, elbow bands, ribbons and sneakers. Pizza-box purses or craft-foam slices replace the weapons, and green eyeshadow and sleek ponytails finish things. Fabric masks slip down over the eyes, so I cut the ties long and knot them over a ponytail rather than at the back of the head.
26. Ghostbusters Women Group Costume

Ghostbusters suits four or more friends who want something comfortable and practical. Everyone wears tan or gray utility jumpsuits with name patches, logo-style badges and black combat boots, with hair in ponytails, braids, buns or short styles and neutral makeup plus a touch of green shimmer. The packs come from painted cardboard, plastic tubing and recycled bottles, kept light and free of sharp edges. Goggles, gloves, flashlights and walkie-talkies add detail, and a spare friend can be a friendly green ghost in a green dress, tights, fluffy hair and face paint. A cardboard pack on thin straps cuts into the shoulders within an hour, so I use old backpack straps and keep the box shallow.
27. Charlie’s Angels Trio Costume

Charlie's Angels needs very little crafting, just good tailoring and big hair. Pick '70s jumpsuits, flared pants, fitted turtlenecks or matching suits in white, black and strong jewel tones. Each friend gets her own hairstyle: feathered waves, a smooth shoulder-length blowout or big curls. Platform boots, oversized sunglasses, gold jewellery and vintage-looking communicators finish things, with polished neutral makeup, defined liner and glossy lips. Pose with flashlights, folders or old-style phones instead of weapons. I'd match the silhouette across all three and change only the colour, because three different shapes make it read as a random '70s party.
28. Heathers Trio Costume

Heathers sorts the colours for you: red, yellow and green, one per friend. Each Heather wears a structured blazer with shoulder pads, a pleated skirt, knee socks or opaque tights, loafers, a white blouse underneath and a matching scrunchie. Heather Chandler gets blonde waves and red accessories, Heather McNamara wears yellow with soft blonde curls, and Heather Duke wears green with dark hair. The makeup is polished '80s: rosy blush, neutral lipstick and softly defined eyes. Carry croquet-style hoops, notebooks or little bags. Thrifted blazers often have shoulder pads already; if yours don't, I tack in a pair of foam ones from the sewing aisle, since that shoulder line is half the costume.
29. Golden Girls Group Costume

Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia are mostly thrift-rack pastels, so the wigs are where I'd spend. Dorothy wears a long patterned dress or loose trousers with a cardigan, sensible flats and a short gray wig. Rose takes a cheerful floral dress, pearl earrings, soft blonde curls and low pumps. Blanche wears a glam printed dress, a flowing robe-style jacket, gold jewellery and big hair, and Sophia wears a cardigan over a collared dress, glasses and a gray wig, with a small handbag. Light ageing makeup reads better than drawn-on lines. Gray wigs can look flat and doll-like, so I rough the roots slightly with a comb to soften them. Played with affection, it's funny without being cruel.
30. ABBA Group Costume

ABBA is four people in sparkle, two singers and two players. The group can wear white flared jumpsuits trimmed in blue, silver and gold, or bell-bottoms with fitted metallic tops. Blonde and auburn wigs for the two singers get feathered volume and dramatic centre parts. Platform boots look right, though low block heels are safer for a long night. Blue eyeshadow, glossy lips, sequin cuffs and handheld mics finish things, and friends playing the male roles wear decorated vests, ruffled shirts and flares. White jumpsuits show every drink spill, so I'd bring a stain pen. Repeating the metallic fabric across all four is what pulls the group together.
31. Destiny’s Child Trio Costume

Destiny's Child is the trio I suggest when friends want to coordinate but hate matching. Pick one fabric family, metallic, denim, camouflage or a jewel tone, and let each friend wear a different garment cut from it. One takes flared pants with a cropped top, another a fitted mini dress, the third a skirt with a structured halter. Long waves, braids or sleek straight hair, shimmer, glossy lips, big earrings, heeled boots and handheld mics finish it. Buying all three pieces from the same shop or fabric bolt matters more than people think, because two "camo" prints rarely look alike. Let each person set her own coverage within that fabric.
32. Salt-N-Pepa Trio Costume

Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella make a loud late-'80s hip-hop trio. Use bright bomber jackets, fitted bodysuits over leggings, high-waisted pants and oversized colour-block outerwear, with one friend in red, another in yellow or blue and the DJ in black with metallic accents. Bamboo-style earrings, chunky gold-tone chains, high-tops and wide belts set the era. Hair can be asymmetric cuts, sculpted waves or tall ponytails, depending on which years you're copying. Strong brows, coloured shadow and bold lipstick go on everyone. A light cardboard turntable and handheld mics are all the props you need. Big hoop earrings get heavy by midnight, so I'd choose plastic or hollow ones.
33. 1980s Aerobics Group Costume

Aerobics is cheap, bright and built from basics. Each friend wears a bright leotard over shiny leggings, then adds contrasting bike shorts, leg warmers, sweatbands and high-tops. Spread neon pink, turquoise, purple, lime and orange across the group so it coordinates without matching. High side ponytails, teased curls or crimped half-up hair, blue or purple eyeshadow, rosy blush and glossy lips set the decade. Light hand weights, rolled yoga mats or a cassette-player prop finish things. Shiny leggings run hot indoors, so I'd pick the cotton-blend kind if the party is in a crowded room, and keep supportive sneakers for walking and dancing.
34. Disco Divas Group Costume

Disco divas fill a dance floor with sequins and flares. Each friend picks her own metallic: silver, gold, rose gold, blue or purple. Sequin jumpsuits, halter tops with bell-bottoms or long-sleeve minis over tights all fit. Platforms, big hoops, tinted glasses and small metallic bags finish the outfits, with curls, feathered waves or high ponytails with sparkly clips. Glossy makeup, highlighter and coloured liner go on top. A small mirror-ball purse or a star-shaped mic is enough of a prop. Keep the shapes firmly '70s, with flares and wide collars, or the group just looks dressed up for a night out instead of in costume.
35. Sanderson Sisters Trio Costume

Winifred, Sarah and Mary are the Hocus Pocus trio, and their heavy fabrics make them one of the warmest choices here. Winifred wears a green-and-purple velvet dress, a red curled wig, a long cape and buckled boots. Sarah takes a layered burgundy and purple dress, long wavy blonde hair, soft plum makeup and lace-up shoes. Mary wears a red-orange bodice with a patchwork skirt, a dark updo, striped accessories and comfy boots. Spellbook clutches, small brooms or battery lanterns make harmless props. Winifred's wig needs real height at the front; I backcomb the crown and pin two curled sections up into points. Keep the makeup whimsical and the trio stays family-friendly.
When Your Group Is One Short or Two Over
Group sizes change right up to the night. Someone drops out, someone brings a roommate, and a five-person theme suddenly has four or seven people. A few fixes keep the costume intact.
Someone Drops Out
Pick themes where no single role carries the idea. Rainbows, crayons, candy, fairies and goddesses still read with a gap. Five-person bands like the Spice Girls look odd missing one, so I'd have a backup friend in mind or drop the role nobody would miss and shift the others.
Extra People Join Late
Give latecomers an add-on character that needs only a top, a headband and one prop. A Munchkin in Oz, a planet in a sky theme, a cloud beside a rainbow or a Shiz student next to the Wicked cast all take an evening to put together. Hand them the group's shared colour or accessory so they don't look tacked on.
Lining Up for the Photo
Big groups look messy in pictures unless you plan the order. Put the most detailed costumes in the middle, line colour themes up in sequence and keep wide capes or wings at the ends. I always take one full-length shot early in the night, before the hats come off and the makeup starts to slide.
One Shared Detail Holds the Whole Squad Together
Every group look above balances two things: people can name the characters at a glance, and the clothes are real enough to wear for hours. Pick a theme that fits your headcount, then assign roles before anyone shops. Repeat one colour, fabric, makeup detail or accessory across the group, and very different outfits will start to look planned. Closet basics and thrift finds do most of the work; I save the effort for handmade headbands, badges and light props, which give the most personality for the least money. Adjust hems, shoes, layers and makeup until every friend feels comfortable. Music groups, film casts, candy, sky and fairy themes all work, as long as nobody ends up in the costume they didn't choose.
