A duo costume lives or dies on one thing: can a stranger name both characters from across the room before either of you says a word? When I style a pair, I give each person one colour that belongs only to them and one signature piece, and I let everything else stay simple. That rule is what makes a thrifted dress and a cheap wig read as a real character instead of a guess. Below are 35 pairings I like for best friends, siblings, roommates and partners, from cartoon classics and superheroes to a couple of spooky ones and a few you can pull together the night before. Nearly all of them start from ordinary clothes, a wig or two and some felt, so pick the pair that suits the two of you and build both outfits with the same care.

Splitting One Idea Into Two Equal Costumes
The most common problem I see with duo costumes isn't the costumes themselves. It's that one person goes all in and the other turns up in a T-shirt. Before buying anything, sit down together and list what each character needs to be recognised, then make sure both lists are about the same length.
- Give each person one colour that belongs only to them. Mario keeps red, Luigi keeps green, and nobody borrows.
- Pick one shared element that ties you together, such as the same base clothes, the same era of fabric, or matching shoes.
- Decide on one signature piece each: a hat, a wig, a wand, a collar. If you can only afford one wig, give it to the character who can't be guessed without it.
- Try both outfits on side by side in front of a mirror or a phone camera at least a few days early. Mismatched whites, two different pinks and wrong-sized overalls are easy to fix with time and impossible at 7 p.m. on the night.
When the pair isn't the same height or build, don't fight it. Shaggy and Scooby, Popeye and Olive Oyl, and Gru and a Minion all look better when the two shapes are different.
1. Barbie And Ken Costume

Barbie and Ken rely almost entirely on colour, so get the pink right before anything else. One person wears a hot-pink mini dress or jumpsuit with oversized sunglasses, a blonde ponytail wig, rosy makeup and platform heels, plus a small pink handbag. The second person goes for a striped beach shirt, pastel shorts, white sneakers, a neatly combed blonde wig and a visor or retro sunglasses. I always repeat one shade of pink or aqua across both outfits, because two random pinks side by side look like a mistake rather than a matched set. Keep the makeup glossy and clean, and swap the platforms for flat white trainers if there's walking or dancing involved.
2. Wednesday And Enid Costume

The trick with Wednesday and Enid is that the contrast does the work, so don't soften either side. Wednesday gets a black dress with a crisp white collar, opaque tights, black lace-up shoes, two long braids, pale foundation with gently defined eyes and a small vintage book. Enid goes loud: a bright striped sweater, pleated skirt, patterned tights, chunky sneakers, a blonde wig with pink and blue tips, colourful eye shadow and a fuzzy backpack. I check Wednesday's collar before anything else, since a limp, off-white collar is what makes her look like any girl in black. Both outfits layer easily, which helps at school events or outdoor trick-or-treating.
3. Glinda And Elphaba Costume

Glinda and Elphaba give you the most colour contrast on this list, and the sparkle is half the fun. Glinda wears a full pink dress or tulle skirt with a fitted shimmering top, silver flats, a delicate crown, polished blonde curls, luminous pink makeup and a star wand cut from cardboard and glittered. Elphaba wears a long black dress with structured shoulders, a sweeping cape, comfortable black boots, a dark braided wig, green face makeup and a pointed black hat, with a light handmade broom. Green face paint is the part that needs planning. I patch-test it on the inside of the wrist a day ahead, press setting powder over it in thin layers, and keep a black collar or high neckline so the green has somewhere safe to stop.
4. Mario And Luigi Costume

Mario and Luigi are about as easy as a duo gets, because both people wear the same base. That means denim overalls, white gloves, work boots or sneakers and matching faux mustaches, with Mario in a red long-sleeve shirt and red cap and Luigi in green. Sew or glue a felt initial patch to each cap, and use fabric glue rather than hot glue, which tends to pop off a cap brim once it flexes. Short brown wigs are optional; tucked-in natural hair under the caps is fine. Go light on makeup, just rounded brows and rosy cheeks, and carry cardboard coins or a plush mushroom for photos. Stick-on mustaches lift at the corners when you talk and eat, so I'd bring a spare or draw them on with brow pencil instead.
5. Daphne And Velma Costume

Daphne and Velma are a good pick if you want something stylish that you can still walk in all evening. Daphne wears a purple mini dress, green neck scarf, pink tights and purple flats or low boots, with a long red wig smoothed into a lifted shape and soft lavender eye makeup. Velma wears an orange turtleneck, red pleated skirt, orange knee socks and red loafers, plus a short brown bob, square glasses, freckles and a magnifying glass. The colour of Daphne's wig matters more than people expect. A bright cherry red reads as a different character, so I look for a warm auburn-red. Hand both of them a notebook or cardboard clue cards, and most of the clothes can go straight back into the wardrobe in November.
6. Shaggy And Scooby Costume

Shaggy and Scooby is a relaxed, low-effort pairing built almost entirely from loungewear. Shaggy needs an oversized green T-shirt, loose brown pants, worn black sneakers, a shaggy light-brown wig, faint drawn-on chin stubble and a paper sandwich. Scooby can be a brown hoodie and joggers with soft felt ears and black felt spots, a blue collar with a diamond-shaped tag, brown sneakers and a darkened nose with a few freckles in place of a full mask. Felt spots stay on cotton fleece far better with a few hand stitches than with glue alone. A full mask also cuts your side vision and gets hot quickly, which is why I prefer face makeup here. Exaggerated scared poses do the rest in photos.
7. Cher And Dionne Costume

Cher and Dionne is a fashion duo, so tailoring matters more than props. Cher wears a yellow plaid blazer and pleated skirt over a white top, knee-high socks, black Mary Janes, straight blonde hair, fresh pink makeup and a mini backpack or fuzzy pen. Dionne wears a black-and-white plaid skirt suit with a red top, sheer knee socks, platform shoes, a long dark wig, a dramatic wide-brim hat and a small structured bag. I pin the blazer sleeves and skirt waist on the body before the night, since a thrifted plaid suit that sags at the shoulders loses the whole polished idea. Stretch fabrics and low platforms keep it wearable for best friends who want to match without dressing identically.
8. Romy And Michele Costume

Romy and Michele are all shine and confidence. One wears a fitted metallic-blue mini dress with silver platforms, oversized hoops, a sleek blonde ponytail, frosted eye shadow and glossy nude lips. The other wears a bright pink mini dress with feathery trim, matching heels, chunky jewellery and long blonde waves. Small handbags or homemade school reunion badges set the theme. Metallic stretch fabric shows every seam and every pull, so I size up if the dress is borderline tight. If short dresses aren't practical for your evening, add opaque tights or go knee-length in the same two colours. The two distinct palettes are what you need to keep; the rest is negotiable.
9. Woody And Buzz Costume

A Woody and Buzz costume can stay light and wearable if you skip the plastic armour. Woody wears a yellow plaid shirt, cow-print vest, blue jeans, brown boots, red neck scarf and brown cowboy hat, with combed brown hair, warm makeup and a soft craft-cord rope. Buzz is a white long-sleeve top and white pants with green and purple felt panels, white sneakers, a purple fabric hood and soft foldable wings on his back, plus a touch of silver eye makeup. I attach Buzz's wings with elastic shoulder loops rather than gluing them to the top. That way they come off for sitting, driving and coat-check, and the shirt survives to be worn again.
10. Lilo And Stitch Costume

Lilo and Stitch is soft, cute and comfortable for both people. Lilo wears a red dress with big white leaf shapes, printed or painted on, plus sandals, a long straight black wig, natural makeup, a handmade flower clip and a small camera or record prop. Stitch is a blue hoodie and joggers with a paler blue belly panel, large felt ears on the hood, darker blue spots down the back, blue sneakers and friendly blue makeup around the eyes and nose. Big felt ears flop unless you give them structure. I sandwich a piece of craft foam or a bent pipe cleaner inside each ear before stitching them to the hood. The pairing scales well for teens and kids, and breathable fabrics help on a warm night indoors.
11. Kim Possible And Shego Costume

Kim Possible and Shego suit two people who plan to move around a lot. Kim wears a fitted black long-sleeve top, olive cargo pants, a utility belt, black gloves and sturdy black boots, with a long red wig in a deep side part, neutral makeup and a painted cardboard communicator. Shego wears black pants with a fitted black-and-green top, matching gloves, black ankle boots, a long black wig, bright green eye makeup and a green utility pouch. Leave out realistic combat props; a confident pose tells people who you are. In practice, Shego's top is the hardest piece to find, so I usually build it from a black base layer with a green panel stitched down one side. Flat footwear and stretch separates keep both of you comfortable through trick-or-treating or a busy party.
12. Cosmo And Wanda Costume

Cosmo and Wanda look busy in photos but are built on very plain clothes. Both start with white button-down shirts, black pants, black ties and black shoes. Cosmo adds a short green wig, green brows, a small yellow crown and a star-tipped wand; Wanda wears a curled pink updo, pink eye makeup, a matching crown and her own wand. My favourite detail is the floating crown: cut it from gold cardstock and glue it to a clear plastic headband so it seems to hover. Light wire-and-felt wings can sit behind each shirt. The shared black-and-white base ties you together, and the pink and green keep you apart.
13. Peter Pan And Tinker Bell Costume

Peter Pan and Tinker Bell lean on soft woodland greens and a bit of sparkle. Peter wears a belted green tunic over brown leggings with soft brown ankle boots, a short reddish-brown wig, a pointed green cap, lightly flushed makeup and a cloth pouch. Tinker Bell wears a fitted green dress, or a green top with a layered tulle skirt, plus sheer wings, green ballet flats topped with white pom-poms, a high blonde bun, gold shimmer at the eyes and a star wand. Tulle sheds glitter and catches on everything, so I trim any loose threads and steam the layers before wearing. Pick small, bendy wings; big rigid ones knock drinks and other guests in a crowded room. It's a sweet choice for siblings or a parent and child too.
14. Alice And Mad Hatter Costume

Alice and the Mad Hatter set storybook neatness against eccentric tailoring. Alice wears a light-blue knee-length dress under a white apron, white tights, black Mary Janes, a blonde wig with a black headband, rosy makeup and a teacup. The Hatter layers a bright vest and patterned jacket over cropped trousers, striped socks and lace-up boots, with an orange curly wig, vivid eye makeup, an oversized bow tie and a tall decorated top hat. Carry a cardboard teapot, not real china. When I mix patterns on the Hatter, I keep them to two or three colours that repeat from hat to socks, which is the difference between eccentric and simply messy.
15. Dorothy And Scarecrow Costume

Dorothy and the Scarecrow are an approachable DIY duo, and both outfits are easy to wear all day. Dorothy wears a blue gingham pinafore over a white puff-sleeve blouse, white ankle socks, sparkly red flats, two braided pigtails, rosy makeup and a wicker basket with a plush dog. The Scarecrow wears a patched plaid shirt, loose brown pants, a rope belt, a floppy hat and brown boots, with a gently drawn stitched smile and a fabric crow or paper diploma. Use straw-coloured yarn at the cuffs, not real straw. Real straw is itchy, drops everywhere and gets you banned from the host's sofa. Glittering Dorothy's shoes yourself works, but seal the glitter with a clear coat or it will trail through every room.
16. Beetlejuice And Lydia Costume

Beetlejuice and Lydia bring strong Halloween energy without needing anything gruesome. Beetlejuice wears a black-and-white striped suit over a white shirt with black boots, a messy pale wig with faint green accents, white theatrical makeup around darkened eyes and a quirky handbook-style notebook. Lydia wears a layered red dress, a matching veil, red ankle boots and a dark wig in a high, uneven updo, with smoky eyes and deep berry lips. White cream makeup creases on a warm evening and rubs onto collars, so I set it with plenty of translucent powder and keep a tissue tucked inside the shirt until we leave. Keep the look stylized rather than decayed; the stripes against Lydia's red are dramatic enough.
17. Jack And Sally Costume

Jack and Sally get their mood from pinstripes, patchwork and careful makeup. Jack wears a fitted black pinstripe suit, a white shirt, a bat-shaped bow tie, black shoes, a smooth bald cap or short white wig and clean skeletal face makeup with rounded black eyes. Sally wears a knee-length patchwork dress, striped tights, low black boots, a long red wig and pale blue face makeup with delicate drawn seam lines, carrying a fabric flower or a rolled paper bouquet. A bald cap only looks smooth if the edge is blended, and that takes practice, so I'd try it once before the night or use the white wig. The clothes and colour already tell the story, so there's no need for wounds or anything graphic.
18. Morticia And Gomez Costume

Morticia and Gomez might be the most polished pairing here, and they're surprisingly comfortable for a dinner party. Morticia wears a floor-length fitted black dress with long bell sleeves, black heels or pointed flats, a sleek waist-length black wig, pale makeup, dark red lipstick and a single artificial rose with the bloom snipped off. Gomez wears a dark pinstripe suit, white shirt, bow tie and polished shoes, with a clean side part, a thin drawn mustache and a pocket watch. Long bell sleeves drag through food and candles, so I pin them up a few inches for the eating part of the night. Most of these pieces stay useful afterward, and a hand on the arm or a dramatic dip sells the romance better than any prop.
19. Coraline And Wybie Costume

Coraline and Wybie are one of the few pairs that actually welcome a cold, wet October night. Coraline wears a bright yellow raincoat, dark leggings, striped socks and yellow rain boots, with a short blue bob wig, freckles, a dragonfly hair clip and a small fabric doll. Wybie wears dark jeans, sturdy sneakers, a printed shirt and a dark jacket with skeletal details added in removable tape, plus a textured dark wig, softly smudged eyes, goggles and a messenger bag. The blue bob is the giveaway for Coraline, and cheap blue wigs often look slightly green under warm lights, so I check the colour under indoor bulbs before buying. Both of you can hide warm layers underneath without anyone noticing.
20. Batman And Robin Costume

Batman and Robin is a classic that doesn't need any bulky armour. Batman wears a fitted black top and pants, a grey utility belt, black boots, a light cape and a soft black eye mask, with subtle charcoal shading around the eyes. Robin wears a red top, green leggings, a yellow cape, green gloves, black or green boots, a black eye mask and a gold belt. Swap hard accessories for foam or felt so nothing digs in when you sit. Fabric eye masks slip on sweaty skin, which is why I secure them with a dab of spirit gum or skin-safe adhesive (patch-tested first) instead of relying on the elastic. Any combination of people can wear this, in skirts, joggers or fitted separates.
21. Superman And Lois Lane Costume

Superman and Lois Lane pair a bright suit with sharp office wear, and the contrast is the joke. Superman wears a blue long-sleeve top with a red-and-yellow chest emblem, blue pants, red boots and a red cape, with neatly styled dark hair, a small forehead curl and lightly defined brows. Lois wears a pencil skirt or trousers, a white blouse, a fitted blazer and practical heels or loafers, plus a press badge, notebook and slim shoulder bag, with polished hair and natural makeup. My favourite move is putting Superman in an open white shirt and loose tie over the costume base, as if he's mid-change. It also keeps him warm and makes the outfit easy for a workplace Halloween.
22. Harley Quinn And Poison Ivy Costume

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy split red against leafy green. Harley wears a red-and-black jacket over a matching top and shorts or leggings, patterned tights and high-tops, with blonde pigtails tipped in temporary red and blue, playful eye makeup and a small jester-style bag in place of a toy weapon. Ivy wears a green fitted dress or jumpsuit covered in artificial leaves, green tights, green ankle boots, a long red wig in loose waves, shimmering green makeup and a vine-wrapped clutch. Silk leaves glued on with a glue gun will shed by midnight, so I tack each cluster down with a couple of stitches or use fabric glue and let it cure overnight. Temporary hair colour also rubs onto pillows and jackets, so spray it on before you dress.
23. Gru And Minion Costume

Gru and a Minion are funny, comfortable and very forgiving to put together. Gru wears black pants, a charcoal zip-up jacket, black boots and a wide grey-and-black striped scarf, with a smooth bald cap, arched brows and a cardboard gadget shaped more like a toy than a weapon. The Minion wears denim overalls over a bright yellow shirt, black gloves, black sneakers, a yellow beanie or hood, round silver goggles and yellow face makeup, with a plush banana to hold. Yellow face paint is one of the patchier colours, so I build it up in two thin layers with a damp sponge rather than one heavy coat. Both outfits take thermals underneath, so this pair handles a cold night well.
24. Sulley And Mike Costume

Sulley and Mike are basically pyjamas with felt, which is exactly why I like them for a cool evening. Sulley wears a turquoise hoodie and joggers covered in light purple felt spots, soft horns and rounded ears on the hood, blue sneakers and a little blue makeup around the eyes. Mike wears a lime-green sweatshirt and matching pants with a large white-and-green eye stitched to the torso, a green beanie with small felt horns and green sneakers, with an optional single-eye makeup detail. Both can wear cardstock employee badges. That big eye on Mike's front wrinkles and peels if it's just glued, so I back it with fusible interfacing first. Skip oversized foam bodies; you won't fit through a doorway or onto a chair.
25. SpongeBob And Patrick Costume

SpongeBob and Patrick turn cartoon colours into something you can actually sit down in. SpongeBob layers a white collared shirt, red tie and brown shorts over yellow tights or leggings, with striped knee socks, black shoes, a yellow bob wig or beanie, freckles and bright blue eye shadow, plus a painted cardboard spatula. Patrick wears a pink sweatshirt and leggings with loose green shorts decorated with purple felt flowers, pink sneakers, a pink beanie, rosy makeup and a small cardboard rock. I cut Patrick's flowers from felt and pin them on rather than painting the shorts, so you can wear the shorts again later. Keep the shapes simple and anyone can wear either character.
26. Fred And Wilma Costume

Fred and Wilma have a bright retro look, and both outfits are simple enough to sew in an afternoon. Fred wears an orange tunic with black felt triangles over blue shorts or leggings, a turquoise necktie, brown slip-ons, a short dark wig and slightly exaggerated brows; carry a foam club only if it looks clearly silly, or a cardboard stone tablet instead. Wilma wears a one-shoulder white dress with a jagged hem, white flats, an oversized round necklace, an orange-red wig in a high bun, classic red lips and softly winged liner. An oversized T-shirt cut into a one-shoulder dress gets you most of the way. Jersey doesn't fray, so the jagged hem can stay raw. Matching stone-print accessories connect the two without adding bulk.
27. Popeye And Olive Oyl Costume

Popeye and Olive Oyl are made of everyday separates, which makes them a strong last-minute pair. Popeye wears navy pants, a black sailor-style shirt with red trim, brown work shoes and a white sailor cap, with short dark hair, an anchor drawn on the forearm in washable makeup and a painted cardboard spinach can. A squint does more than a pipe ever would. Olive Oyl wears a red long-sleeve top, a black knee-length skirt, a yellow ribbon belt, striped socks and brown ankle boots, with a smooth low bun and simple vintage makeup and red lips. Her long, narrow outline is the point, so I'd keep her skirt straight and fitted rather than full. That slimness next to Popeye's broad sailor shape is what makes them read as a couple.
28. Maverick And Goose Costume

Maverick and Goose need very little styling because matching flight suits carry the whole idea. Both wear olive utility jumpsuits with removable fabric patches, white T-shirts and black boots. Maverick adds aviator sunglasses, neat dark hair and a name badge; Goose gets his own badge, a short sandy-blonde wig, a soft mustache in makeup and a light helmet carried under one arm. Leave out anything that looks like real military equipment or weapons. Jumpsuits get sold out late in October, so green cargo pants with a matching zip jacket are a fine substitute. Velcro-backed patches let you reuse the suit afterward, and the whole look travels well between parties or outdoors.
29. Men In Black Costume

Men in Black is proof that a plain outfit can still look sharp. Both people wear matching black suits, crisp white shirts, narrow black ties, black socks and polished black shoes, with dark sunglasses, tidy hair and neutral makeup. Each carries a silver-painted pen as the memory device and a homemade ID badge clipped inside the jacket. Leave the sci-fi weapons at home; serious faces do the job. Thrifted suits are fine, and black skirts work as well as trousers. What I fuss over is the white shirts. Two different whites side by side look off, so I'd buy or pull the pair together. Stand shoulder to shoulder in matching poses and it's very convincing, and modest enough for a work party.
30. Thelma And Louise Costume

Thelma and Louise is relaxed road-trip dressing with almost no props. Thelma wears high-waisted jeans, a white tank under an open denim shirt, ankle boots, oversized sunglasses, loose auburn curls, sun-kissed makeup and a vintage map. Louise wears faded jeans, a white T-shirt, a patterned neck scarf, dark boots, classic sunglasses, a voluminous brown wig, neutral makeup and a structured travel bag. Steer clear of props tied to the film's dangerous scenes; the denim and the scarf are enough. Double denim only reads as deliberate when the two washes differ, so I put a darker jean with a lighter shirt. A cardboard steering wheel or a little roadside sign is fun for photos, and you'll wear every piece again.
31. Wayne And Garth Costume

Wayne and Garth cost almost nothing and come straight out of most closets. Wayne wears a black graphic T-shirt, ripped blue jeans, black sneakers and a black cap with a homemade white logo patch, a long dark wig, minimal makeup and a cardboard air guitar. Garth wears a faded band tee, light-wash jeans, casual sneakers and a blue plaid shirt worn open, with a long blonde wig, clear glasses and rolled-paper drumsticks. Long cheap wigs tangle at the back of the neck within an hour. I brush them out with a wide-tooth comb and a light spritz of fabric softener mixed with water before the night, which tames a lot of the frizz. Keep everything slightly oversized and it'll look right.
32. Ash And Pikachu Costume

Ash and Pikachu suit a busy night where you're on your feet. Ash wears a blue vest over a white T-shirt, cuffed jeans, fingerless green gloves and red-and-white sneakers, with a black wig under a red-and-white cap and a foam red-and-white ball. Pikachu wears a yellow hoodie and joggers with brown stripes on the back and a paler belly panel, long black-tipped ears on the hood and a soft zigzag tail at the waistband, plus yellow sneakers, red cheek circles and a small crossbody pouch. The tail is where this costume usually fails. A floppy felt tail drags on the ground, so I stiffen it with craft foam inside and attach it with a sturdy safety pin through the waistband. The blue, red and yellow make the pair easy to spot in a crowd.
33. Sailor Moon And Tuxedo Mask Costume

Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask mix sailor details with formal black tailoring. Sailor Moon wears a white fitted top with a blue collar, a blue pleated skirt, a red bow, white gloves and red knee-high boots, with a long blonde wig styled into two high buns and trailing ponytails, gold hair ornaments, soft pink makeup and a moon wand. Tuxedo Mask wears a black suit, white shirt and white vest, black dress shoes, a flowing cape, a top hat and a simple white eye mask, with a single artificial red rose. Those buns are heavy on a cheap wig. I build them from a separate clip-on bun pair pinned over the wig, so the base wig doesn't sag sideways by the end of the night. Keep the cape short enough that nobody trips on it.
34. Naruto And Sasuke Costume

Naruto and Sasuke play bright orange against dark navy in comfortable athletic layers. Naruto wears an orange zip jacket with blue or black panels, orange pants, open-toe costume boots over black socks and a metal-look fabric headband, with a spiky blonde wig, whisker marks and a small paper scroll. Sasuke wears a navy high-collar top, white shorts or pants, dark arm warmers, navy costume sandals, a spiky black wig, softly defined eyes and a matching headband. Skip swords and combat props. Spiky wigs lose their points over a long night, so I set them with a strong-hold hairspray and a bit of hair wax worked into each spike. The headbands do a lot of the recognition work, and it all stays family-friendly.
35. Peanut Butter And Jelly Costume

Peanut butter and jelly is the one to choose if neither of you wants to be a specific character. Both wear tan felt bread-shaped tunics over long-sleeve shirts and leggings, one with a big brown centre panel for peanut butter and the other with purple or red for jelly. Coordinate the sneakers in brown and purple, add toast-coloured beanies and carry little jar-shaped bags made from decorated containers. Felt tunics droop in the middle as you walk, so I cut each one from stiff felt, or glue a thin layer of craft foam behind the front. Labels help the joke land, but keep them to one or two words. It's gender-neutral, no-sew and genuinely comfortable, and it only makes sense when you stand side by side.
Wigs, Felt and Glue That Last Until Midnight
Most of these costumes are built from the same few materials, and they fail in predictable ways. A little preparation the week before saves a lot of repair work in a host's bathroom.
Wigs
Cheap synthetic wigs shed and frizz, and they melt near heat. Shake one out and brush it with a wide-tooth comb before wearing, keep it away from curling irons, ovens and candles, and pin it to a wig cap so it doesn't slide back as the evening goes on. If you don't want to dye your hair, a wig is always kinder than temporary colour on light hair, which can stain.
Felt and glue
Hot glue is quick but lets go in the cold and on anything that bends, like a cap brim or a hood. For patches, spots and ears, I use fabric glue and let it cure overnight, or add a few hand stitches at the corners. Felt letters on polyester shirts are the worst offenders, so stitch those.
Makeup on two faces
Coloured face paint for Elphaba, the Minion or Stitch should be patch-tested on the inside of the wrist a day ahead. Set it with translucent powder, carry a small tube of the same colour for touch-ups, and take it off with an oil cleanser rather than scrubbing. If both of you are in heavy makeup, budget twice the getting-ready time you think you need.
Keeping Two Costumes Warm and Dry Outside
Duo costumes often end up outdoors, walking between houses or queueing at the door. Thermals and leggings slip under almost every look here, and a coat in one character's colour (red for Robin, yellow for Coraline) keeps you in costume even when it's zipped up. Cardboard props soften in rain, so I seal them with a coat of clear varnish or wrap them in clear packing tape. Flat, broken-in shoes beat any platform once you've been standing for two hours.
The Pairs I'd Hand to Two Friends Tonight
If you're still undecided, start with what's already hanging in your two closets. A striped shirt, a pair of overalls or a black suit will narrow the field faster than scrolling. Then spend your effort on the signature colours, a decent wig and one prop each, because those are what people read first, and a packaged costume rarely beats them. Check footwear and layers against the weather and how far you'll walk. And make sure both halves are equally finished. A duo where one person has a full wig and makeup and the other has a T-shirt always looks lopsided in photos.
