Cosplay lets you step into a story you love and show off what you can make. The fifty women characters below run from closet-friendly cartoon looks to anime uniforms, fantasy gowns, superhero suits and game outfits, mixing newer gaming and anime favourites with characters that have filled convention halls for years. For each one I've covered clothing, hair, makeup, shoes and a practical prop. Buy pieces, sew them, thrift them or pull them from your wardrobe, and change hemlines, shoes, fabrics and coverage to suit your body. A costume that fits you well always beats a perfect copy that pinches.

Bodysuits and Jumpsuits That Fit a Real Body
Black Widow, Catwoman, Samus, Asuka, Rei, D.Va, Tracer and Lucy all sit on a close-fitting suit, and that one garment decides how you feel at hour six. Shop-bought ones are cut for a straight figure, so most people need to adjust something.
- Use a fabric with good stretch both lengthwise and across, and check its recovery by stretching a corner and letting go. If it stays baggy, it will bag at the knees too.
- Measure your full torso loop, from the shoulder down through the crotch and back up, and compare it to the suit. Too short and it pulls on the shoulders every time you sit.
- Put the zip at the front or under one arm if you can. A long back zip looks smooth but means asking someone for help in the toilets.
- Choose matte stretch over shiny for most bodies; shine exaggerates every fold and seam.
- Leave a little ease at the bust and seat even when the reference looks painted on.
If a full suit just isn't you, every one of these characters still works as a fitted top and leggings with the colour blocking matched. I'd rather see that worn happily than a suit you're tugging at all day.
1. Wonder Woman Cosplay

Wonder Woman reads from her red, blue and gold, so get those colours right first. A fitted red top with a gold eagle design, a blue pleated skirt or shorts with white stars, gold cuffs, a metallic belt and a gold headband make the outfit. I cut the eagle from gold stretch vinyl so it bends with the top instead of cracking like painted foam. A long dark wig in loose waves, defined brows and a red lip finish the face. A light gold rope is a good photo prop. Red knee boots are classic, but red ankle boots are kinder on a long day, and hidden shorts help when you sit.
2. Harley Quinn Cosplay

Harley is easy to make your own. A red and blue bomber over a graphic tee, coordinating shorts or a pleated skirt, fishnets and lace-up ankle boots give her outline. Blonde high pigtails get one end coloured pink and the other blue with a temporary colour. Fishnets ladder the moment they catch on a boot hook, so I'd layer them over skin-tone tights and pack a spare pair. Pale base, smudged pink and blue shadow, a red lip and a small heart under one eye finish her. Studded bracelets and a slogan bag replace the mallet in a crowded hall.
3. Black Widow Cosplay

Black Widow is a covered, comfortable superhero look. Build it on a fitted black jumpsuit, or a long-sleeve top with cargo pants, in a stretch that moves. The belt with red hourglass details defines the waist, and a cropped auburn wig with soft waves finishes the head. Smoky brown shadow, black liner and a muted rose lip keep the face understated. Fingerless gloves, wrist cuffs and a small black backpack give you practical detail. Flat combat boots beat heels for this one. When I fit a jumpsuit like this, I check the torso length by sitting down in it, because that's where a jumpsuit pulls first.
4. Scarlet Witch Cosplay

Scarlet Witch is all rich red layers. A dark red fitted top or corset-style vest over a black base layer, black leggings or a long burgundy skirt and a floor-length red coat make the outfit. That coat is what makes the photos, so choose a fabric with some weight, like a suiting or a brushed twill, so it swings rather than flaps. A long auburn wig with brushed waves and a light red crown across the forehead finish the head. Red-brown shadow and a berry lip suit her. Black ankle boots keep you steady, and red sheer gloves are enough of an effect.
5. Catwoman Cosplay

Catwoman can be dialled to any coverage and body type. Wear a black long-sleeve jumpsuit, faux-leather leggings with a fitted top or a modest zip-front catsuit, with a wide black belt and light gloves. A close-fitting cat-ear hood gives the strongest outline, but an ear headband with a short black wig or slicked hair works too. Faux leather doesn't breathe at all, so I'd line it with a thin jersey at the back and underarms or choose a matte stretch fabric instead. Sharp liner and a deep neutral lip suit her. Heeled ankle boots or flat riding boots, plus a black crossbody bag, keep it practical.
6. Supergirl Cosplay

Supergirl's primary colours make her cheerful and simple. A fitted blue top with the red and gold shield, a red skater or knee-length pleated skirt and a light red cape make the outfit. Cut the cape to around knee level; any longer and people step on it in queues. I attach capes with snaps under the shoulder seams rather than tying them at the throat, which pulls on your neck all day. A long blonde wig with soft waves, rosy cheeks and a pink-red lip suit her. Flat red boots are safer in crowds than heeled ones, and opaque tights or shorts help.
7. Poison Ivy Cosplay

Poison Ivy looks elaborate even from simple materials. An emerald dress, a green jumpsuit or a fitted top with a layered tulle skirt is the base, with artificial ivy leaves at the neckline, waist and shoulders. I stitch the leaves on through their centre vein, because glued silk leaves pop off as soon as the fabric bends. Green tights and ankle boots wrapped with more vines carry the theme down. A long red wig in loose curls contrasts well. Green and copper shadow and a berry lip finish the face, with a leaf headband and flower bracelet. Keep the vines soft so they don't snag on other costumes.
8. Raven Cosplay

Raven gives you mystical purple on a covered base. A black long-sleeve bodysuit or top with opaque leggings and a deep purple hooded cape make the outfit, with a metallic belt set with red circles and matching cuffs. A short violet wig with a centre part gives her graphic hair. Keep skin matte with smoky lavender shadow and a plum lip. The forehead gem can go on with a skin-safe adhesive, or I'd glue it to the hood edge if your skin reacts to adhesives. Purple ankle boots or flat knee boots keep the palette and the comfort. With no bulky pieces, she travels well.
9. Wednesday Addams Cosplay

Wednesday is a closet cosplay for anyone who likes plain, wearable clothes. A black knee-length dress with a crisp white collar and cuffs is the goal. If you can't find one, I'd layer a white collared shirt under a plain black pinafore or sleeveless dress, which looks more convincing than a stick-on collar. Opaque black tights and sturdy black shoes go below. Two smooth braids with a centre part, pale skin, smudged grey shadow and a muted berry lip finish her. A black satchel or a cello-themed accessory adds character. Keep a calm face and straight posture, because her stillness sells it.
10. Cowgirl Barbie Cosplay

Pink cowgirl Barbie is cheerful and retro. A hot pink sleeveless vest and matching flared pants with silver stars or white trim down the legs, over a white long-sleeve top, make the outfit. A long blonde wig in soft waves goes under a white cowboy hat. Bright makeup with pink blush, lashes and a glossy lip suits her, with a pink bandana and star earrings. Wear white or pink cowboy boots that are already broken in; new western boots rub at the heel within an hour. Hot pink fabric is hard to match across shops, so I'd buy the vest and pants fabric together. She's a strong pick for a colourful group.
11. Lara Croft Cosplay

Lara Croft is practical and comes mostly from everyday clothes. An olive or grey fitted tank, brown cargo pants or durable shorts over opaque tights, a utility belt, a canvas pouch and fingerless gloves build her. A long brown wig or your own hair goes into a secure braid or low ponytail. Neutral makeup with defined brows and a little brown shading works. For grime, I brush a brown eyeshadow onto the knees and hems and set it with a spray, so it doesn't rub off on chairs. Supportive brown lace-up boots and a map or notebook finish her, and the whole outfit packs small.
12. Chun-Li Cosplay

Chun-Li is strong and elegant, with hair that people check. A blue qipao-inspired tunic with gold trim and side panels goes over opaque shorts or leggings, with brown tights and white lace-up boots. Her two high buns get white ribbon covers. On a wig, I build the buns on separate clips so they sit exactly level, because any lean shows straight away. Winged liner, rosy blush and a soft pink lip suit her. Make the spiked bracelets as rounded foam cuffs so they're light and harmless. Practise a couple of balanced martial arts poses before the day.
13. Princess Zelda Cosplay

Zelda suits anyone who loves layered fantasy clothes. A long white or cream dress with fitted sleeves and a structured purple overskirt, gold trim, a decorated waist panel and blue geometric accents set the royal palette. A long blonde wig, straight with small front braids gathered at the back, pointed ear tips and a gold tiara finish the head. Luminous makeup with a rose lip suits her. Hidden flats, a blue pendant and embroidered gloves complete her. I'd sew the gold trim on rather than gluing it, since glued trim lifts at curves after one wear. Choose a wrinkle-resistant fabric for travel.
14. Princess Peach Cosplay

Peach is fairytale charm in a structured pink gown. A floor-length dress with puff sleeves, a darker pink fitted bodice and a full layered skirt is the base, over a hoopless petticoat so you don't take up a whole aisle. A long golden wig with curled ends and side bangs, a light gold crown with red and blue gems, round blue earrings and white elbow gloves finish her. Sweet makeup with pink lips suits her. Puff sleeves collapse unless they're supported, so I tack a strip of tulle inside each sleeve head. Pink flats or low block heels and a mushroom purse keep it practical.
15. Samus Aran Cosplay

Samus works well without the full armour. Her streamlined blue suit can be a fitted cobalt jumpsuit or a long-sleeve top with leggings, with lighter blue panels in stretch fabric, heat-transfer vinyl or fabric paint. A long blonde wig in a high ponytail with smooth face-framing pieces is the hair. Athletic makeup with bronze shadow and liner suits her. Light wrist cuffs and moulded shoe covers over blue trainers add structure. If you use vinyl on a stretch suit, choose a stretch vinyl and press it with the fabric slightly stretched, or it cracks when you move.
16. Tifa Lockhart Cosplay

Tifa's sporty black and white outfit is friendly for beginners. A fitted white cropped tank over a longer camisole for coverage, a black pleated skirt, opaque safety shorts, suspenders and black thigh-high socks make the base. Red gloves or soft padded wrist covers bring in her accent colour. A long straight black wig with a centre part is the hair. Thigh-high socks slide down over a day, and a strip of silicone grip tape or a garter belt fixes that. Natural makeup with a rosy lip suits her. Red lace-up boots, or black boots with red laces, finish her, and check every strap before you leave.
17. Aerith Gainsborough Cosplay

Aerith is soft and romantic but built from practical pieces. A pale pink ankle-length button-front dress, a cropped red jacket and brown lace-up boots make the outfit. A long brown wig goes into a thick braid tied with a big pink ribbon. Rosy blush and a soft green or brown shadow suit her. Small silver bracelets and a basket of artificial flowers are the details. I'd add a small inside pocket to the jacket for a phone and tickets, since the dress has nowhere to put them. Give the skirt enough width to walk easily, and pick artificial flowers so nothing wilts.
18. Ciri Cosplay

Ciri pairs rugged medieval layers with silver hair. A cream blouse under a fitted brown vest, dark leather-look pants, a utility belt and a weathered charcoal cloak make the outfit. A shoulder-length silver-white wig, slightly tousled, frames the face. Smoky grey shadow and a muted lip suit her, and the facial scar goes on with skin-safe makeup, kept subtle. Brown knee boots, fingerless gloves and a belt pouch finish her. Instead of heavy armour, I'd use textured fabrics and old-brass fasteners. Weather the cloak with a diluted fabric paint sponged on and dried before you add the next layer.
19. Aloy Cosplay

Aloy rewards anyone who enjoys textured crafting. A fitted blue top, brown leggings and knee boots are the base, with asymmetrical faux-fur panels, woven belts, leather-look pouches and blue fabric strips. The long auburn wig gets lots of small braids gathered loosely at the back. Braid those a few days ahead in front of a film; it takes a long time. Warm freckles and copper shadow suit her. Her ear device can be cut from thin craft foam. Faux fur sheds everywhere when you cut it, so I cut from the back with small snips through the backing only, never through the pile.
20. Jinx Cosplay

Jinx is electric blue hair and mismatched streetwear. A fitted black crop top over a blue or purple base, striped leggings, shorts and a stack of belts make the outfit, with fingerless gloves and arm wraps. Her very long blue wig splits into two thick braids, and I'd shorten them to waist length if you're going into crowds. Bold pink shadow and a matte mauve lip suit her. Paint cloud patterns on tights and arm pieces with fabric paint, and slip card inside the leg while painting so it doesn't soak through. Black lace-up boots and a graffiti bag finish her without oversized props.
21. Vi Cosplay

Vi has a tough urban look built on red hair and practical clothing. A white or grey tank, dark fitted pants and a cropped red jacket with structured shoulders make the outfit, with black belts, knee pads and fingerless gloves. Her short red wig is swept up on one side and close on the other, which usually means trimming and styling a wig yourself. Strong brows, smoky plum shadow and a small mark under one eye suit her. Thick-soled boots handle a long day. Oversized foam gauntlets are fun for quick photos, but make them slip off easily. Weather the jacket lightly with grey fabric paint.
22. D.Va Cosplay

D.Va is a bright gaming look in blue, pink and white. A printed jumpsuit, or blue leggings with a fitted long-sleeve top decorated with fabric vinyl, white gloves, pink accents and white trainers make the outfit. A long dark brown wig in loose waves gets the pink headset. The makeup matters here: fresh base, rosy blush, winged liner, glossy lips and two pink cheek stripes, set with powder so they don't wear off. A phone case or game controller is the prop. A cropped pink and blue jacket adds coverage. Close-fitting synthetics get hot indoors, so I'd look for a breathable athletic stretch.
23. Tracer Cosplay

Tracer is orange, brown and white with lots of movement. Orange leggings, a fitted brown jacket and a white chest panel in foam or layered fabric build her, with forearm cuffs, fingerless gloves and white shin covers over trainers. A short brown wig, tousled with the bangs swept up, is the hair; it usually needs thinning and a bit of strong spray to get that lift. Warm makeup with freckles suits her. Orange glasses are optional, and clear lenses are easier indoors. Only add blue lights if the battery can hide comfortably. Flexible materials and secure fastenings hold up to animated poses.
24. 2B Cosplay

2B is black, refined and dramatic. A black long-sleeve mini dress with a high neck, feathered or embroidered trim and a flared skirt, opaque tights, low-heeled thigh boots and long black gloves make the outfit. The short silver-white bob wig needs a smooth side fringe. Her eye covering should be a sheer black fabric, which lets you see through it while it looks solid in photos; I'd never wear an opaque one walking around. Soft makeup with a muted rose lip suits her. A small white flower adds contrast. Hidden shorts and a flexible bodice let you sit and pose.
25. Nezuko Kamado Cosplay

Nezuko is a pink patterned robe and very long hair. A pink geometric kimono-style layer over a dark brown dress, held by a wide red and white sash, and a dark haori make the outfit. The long black wig with orange tips should keep its front sections away from your eyes, which I'd do with a couple of hidden pins. Pink shadow and rosy blush suit her. Hang a light green mouthpiece from a ribbon around your neck and raise it only for photos. White leg wraps, socks and pink sandals finish her. Shorten the robe a little if stairs are involved.
26. Sailor Moon Cosplay

Sailor Moon is a sailor uniform and one of anime's best-known hairstyles. A white fitted top with a blue sailor collar, red front and back bows, a blue pleated skirt, white elbow gloves and red low-heeled knee boots make the outfit. Two round buns with trailing pigtails sit on a long blonde wig, built over light foam inserts so they keep their shape without much weight. A gold tiara with a red centre and small red ornaments finish her. Bright lashes and a glossy rose lip suit her. I'd press the sailor collar with a little starch so it lies flat. Carry a crescent purse and wear hidden shorts.
27. Hatsune Miku Cosplay

Miku is turquoise hair and sleek digital styling. A grey sleeveless top with teal trim, a black pleated skirt, detached arm sleeves, thigh-high socks and teal neckwear make the outfit. The long twin ponytails are her identity, so clip them onto a short base wig with reinforced clips; I usually sew a small comb inside each clip as well. Consider a shorter length for a crowded venue. Cool pink shadow and a soft pink lip suit her. Black shoes with turquoise accents and a light headset finish her. Keep any cables tucked under the arm sleeves so nothing tangles while you walk.
28. Anya Forger Cosplay

Anya can be reinterpreted by adults in a clearly grown-up, convention-friendly way. A knee-length black A-line dress with gold trim, a white collar and long sleeves, opaque tights and low gold or black shoes make the outfit. A short pastel pink wig with tidy bangs gets her two cone-shaped pieces near the crown. Peach blush, wide liner and a pink tint suit her. A plush dog, a satchel or a bag of peanuts adds humour. I'd keep adult proportions and a longer hem rather than copying a child's uniform, which reads oddly. The clear colour blocking does the recognition work.
29. Yor Forger Cosplay

Yor's evening outfit is a sophisticated anime pick. A sleeveless black dress with a fitted bodice, high neck and an asymmetric skirt lined in deep red, with gold rose pieces at the neckline and a matching headband, is the outfit. The long black wig should be straight with bangs and two thick side sections. Red-brown shadow, a wing and a deep rose lip suit her. Sheer tights and knee boots or low heels finish her. I sew the rose pieces on with a few stitches through the back rather than gluing, because glued pieces fall off at the first hug. A structured black clutch is the prop.
30. Power Cosplay

Power is a strong last-minute choice because she dresses like an office worker. A white button-down with rolled sleeves, a black tie, navy or black trousers and clean trainers make the outfit. The long strawberry-blonde wig with messy bangs gets two light red horns on a hidden headband. Sharp red liner, warm blush and tiny fangs drawn at the mouth corners suit her. Coloured lenses are optional and only if professionally fitted for your eyes. Carry a carton-shaped water bottle or a cat bag. I'd untuck the shirt just a little at one side; fully sloppy looks like a mistake rather than a character.
31. Makima Cosplay

Makima is clean officewear, so fit and grooming do everything. A crisp white button-down, a fitted black tie and tailored black trousers make the outfit, with a black blazer for warmth. A long copper-red wig in a loose braid, with straight bangs and soft side pieces, is the hair. Matte base, defined brows, red-brown shadow and a muted coral lip suit her. Black loafers or low block boots stay practical. A black folder is a harmless prop. With a palette this simple, I'd steam every piece just before you leave and check the trousers for lint with a roller.
32. Nobara Kugisaki Cosplay

Nobara is a practical uniform with a distinctive orange bob. A dark navy button-front jacket, a matching knee-length skirt, opaque black tights, a brown belt and brown loafers or ankle boots make the outfit. A short orange-brown wig with a side part and flipped ends gives her hair; flipped ends hold best if you curl them around a large roller with steam and let them cool. Natural makeup and a rose lip suit her. A brown tool pouch with foam shapes replaces her weapon. Gold buttons and clean seams lift the uniform. Leave room in the skirt for sitting, and add a crossbody bag.
33. Maki Zenin Cosplay

Maki is sharp and athletic in dark green. A high-neck green uniform top with a pleated skirt or wide-leg pants, opaque black tights with the skirt and black ankle boots make the outfit. A dark green or black wig goes into a high ponytail with straight side pieces. Her rectangular glasses should have clear lenses, held with small silicone ear grips for active poses. Natural makeup with green-brown shadow suits her. Fingerless gloves and a fitted belt add structure. I'd cut the sleeves with a little extra ease at the back of the arm, since this character needs big, confident movement.
34. Mikasa Ackerman Cosplay

Mikasa is military layers and that red scarf. A white button-down under a cropped tan jacket, fitted white pants and dark brown harness-style straps make the outfit. Keep the straps flexible, and I use elastic sections hidden behind the thighs so they don't cut off circulation when you sit. Wrap a deep red scarf around the neck. A short black wig in a straight bob with long side bangs is the hair. Soft grey shadow and a neutral rose lip suit her. Brown knee boots finish her, and light foam boxes at the hips or a canvas pouch replace the gear. Keep every strap level.
35. Asuka Langley Cosplay

Asuka is a vivid red plugsuit and fiery hair. A long-sleeve red jumpsuit in a flexible fabric with black, green and white panels in vinyl or applique, plus red ankle boots or trainers with covers, make the outfit. A long copper-orange wig with side bangs and two small red clips is the hair. Sharp liner and copper shadow suit her. Light wrist pieces and a small metallic collar detail finish her. Test the stretch before you cut: plugsuits need fabric that stretches well in both directions, and a hidden back zip saves a lot of wriggling. Leggings and a top work if a bodysuit feels too tight.
36. Rei Ayanami Cosplay

Rei is the cool-toned partner to Asuka's red. A fitted white jumpsuit with black, blue and green panels along the torso, arms and legs, done in stretch vinyl or fabric paint, makes the outfit. A short pale blue wig with smooth bangs frames the face. Minimal makeup with grey-blue shadow suits her. White ankle boots or trainers with covers and small black wrist accents finish her. White stretch fabric shows everything underneath, so I'd line the torso or wear a skin-tone base layer. With so little colour, every seam shows; sew slowly and press each one.
37. Bulma Cosplay

Bulma can be put together from colourful everyday pieces. A pink T-shirt dress with her name in bold, a purple neck scarf and a red belt make one version; a cropped turquoise jacket with white shorts makes a more adventurous one. A bright blue wig in a short bob with straight bangs is the hair. Blue liner, rosy blush and a glossy pink lip suit her. Red trainers, ankle socks and a capsule purse made from craft foam finish her. I'd iron the name onto the dress in heat-transfer vinyl rather than painting it, since paint goes stiff and cracks on knit. With no heavy layers, she suits a warm day.
38. Faye Valentine Cosplay

Faye mixes bright yellow with a retro space feel. A yellow cropped top over a fitted black camisole, high-waisted yellow shorts and sheer or opaque tights make the outfit, with a loose red jacket you can take off when it's warm. A short dark purple wig with side bangs is the hair. Mauve shadow, a wing and a muted red lip suit her. White low-heeled ankle boots stay walkable. A blue headband and a yellow crossbody bag finish her. Yellow is hard to match between shops, so I'd buy the top and shorts fabric at the same time. Lengthen the top or raise the shorts for coverage.
39. Nami Cosplay

Nami can be adjusted for any season. Her classic look is a green patterned top with high-waisted jeans or a long denim skirt, with brown sandals or ankle boots depending on the venue. A long orange wig in loose waves with a side part is the hair. Peach blush, copper shadow and a glossy coral lip suit her. A small weather symbol on the upper arm goes on with washable body paint if you want it. Carry a map, a citrus bag or a notebook, with gold bracelets and hoops. In cold weather, I'd add a long tan coat worn open so the orange and green still show.
40. Nico Robin Cosplay

Nico Robin has several looks, and the purple top with a long skirt is one of the most elegant. A fitted violet blouse, a flowing cream or dark purple maxi skirt and a wide belt make the outfit. A long straight black wig with polished bangs or a centre part is the hair. Cool purple shadow and a rose lip suit her. Purple ankle boots or low heels coordinate quietly. Sunglasses on her head and a book-shaped clutch fit her scholarly side. I'd hem the maxi skirt with your actual shoes on, and line it with something breathable so it doesn't cling to tights.
41. Boa Hancock Cosplay

Boa Hancock is luxurious red fabric and long black hair. A floor-length red dress or robe with high side slits over matching shorts or an opaque underskirt, with white and gold patterns along the neckline and hem in applique or fabric paint, makes the outfit. A very long black wig with a centre part and soft curled ends is the hair. Arched brows, a wing and a deep pink lip suit her. Red or gold flats keep the colour unbroken. Large gold earrings and a faux-fur wrap add grandeur. High slits ride up when you walk, so I'd add a small hidden tack at the top of each one.
42. Mitsuri Kanroji Cosplay

Mitsuri is pastel hair on a soft green and pink palette. A dark uniform-style top with a white cape, a pleated skirt, a wide white belt, striped lime green socks and pink sandals or boots make the outfit. The wig is the centrepiece: long pink fading to green at the ends, in three thick braids. Ombre wigs in that exact pairing can be hard to find, and I'd rather buy a pink wig and add green clip-in wefts at the ends than dye it. Bright pink shadow and glossy lips suit her. Set the neckline and skirt to your preferred coverage. Light layers keep it comfortable.
43. Shinobu Kocho Cosplay

Shinobu is butterfly-wing layers in white and lavender. A dark uniform with a high collar and straight pants or a pleated skirt, a white haori printed or painted with pastel butterfly borders, white socks and purple sandals or flats make the outfit. A black wig with purple ends goes into a loose bun with a large butterfly clip. Airy makeup with lavender shadow suits her, and small butterfly earrings finish the face. When I paint the haori borders, I tape off a clean edge and use thin coats of fabric paint so the fabric still drapes. Keep the haori from trailing.
44. Kiki Cosplay

Kiki is a gentle beginner costume from comfortable pieces. A loose navy midi dress with short sleeves and a gathered skirt, red ballet flats or low Mary Janes, a short black bob wig and an oversized red bow at the crown make the outfit. Keep makeup youthful but grown-up, with peach blush and a sheer pink lip. Carry a woven bakery basket of fabric bread with a black cat plush on the edge. A real broom is awkward on public transport, so a broom charm on the basket is my suggestion. I'd stiffen the bow with interfacing so it stands up all day.
45. Alice Cosplay

Alice brings storybook charm with blue and crisp white. A knee-length light blue dress with puff sleeves, a white apron, white tights and cushioned black Mary Janes make the outfit. A long blonde wig with softly curled ends and a wide black headband is the hair. Pink cheeks and light blue shadow suit her. A teacup bag, a card-deck clutch or a white rabbit plush is a clear prop. Keep patterns minimal. A cotton apron pressed with a little starch looks crisper than a satin one, which creases the minute you sit. In cold weather, add a pale blue cardigan under the apron.
46. Maleficent Cosplay

Maleficent is an imposing outline without anything graphic. A long black gown with structured shoulders and a subtle purple lining, a flowing cape that stops above the floor, and a fitted black hood holding a light curved horn headpiece make the outfit. Hide your hair under the hood or use a smooth black wig. Cool contour, lavender-grey shadow, sharp liner and a rich red lip carry the face. Hidden low heels or boots, a raven bag and a jewelled ring finish her. I build the horns on a stiff hood base with a chin strap, and keep them narrow enough to clear doorways.
47. Cruella de Vil Cosplay

Cruella is all about black and white contrast with red accents. A fitted black midi dress, a sweeping white faux-fur coat or spotted cape, sheer black tights, red gloves and pointed black ankle boots make the outfit. Her half-black, half-white wig in big waves is the defining piece. Arched brows, smoky grey eyes and a vivid red lip suit her. A structured red handbag or a plush spotted dog keeps it family-friendly, and large green earrings add an optional flash. Faux fur sheds on black fabric, so I'd keep a lint roller in the bag. Confident posture sells the character.
48. Hermione Granger Cosplay

Hermione is a dependable costume from classic school pieces. A white collared shirt, a grey V-neck sweater, a dark pleated skirt or tailored pants and a black robe with a burgundy and gold scarf make the outfit, with opaque tights and black loafers. A medium-length brown wig with full, slightly wild waves is the hair. Natural makeup suits her. A vintage book, a parchment notebook and a feather pen are safe props, and a small hourglass necklace nods to a well-known part of her story. All those layers make her a sensible pick for cold weather and outdoor events.
49. Eleven Cosplay

Eleven is a closet-friendly look with strong 1980s colour. A pale pink collared dress under a navy bomber, white tube socks with coloured stripes and white trainers make the outfit. A short brown wig with a soft curl gives her early hair, while slicked-back hair suits later versions. Keep makeup minimal with light shading under the eyes and a tinted balm. A waffle-shaped pouch or a snack box is a humorous prop. Skip graphic effects; the clothes and a focused expression are enough. Most of this turns up in thrift shops, and I'd check the children's section for the striped socks.
50. Lucy MacLean Cosplay

Lucy MacLean is a clean retro-future look in a blue and yellow utility suit. A fitted blue front-zip jumpsuit with yellow piping at the collar, waist, cuffs and seams is the base, with a gold number patch on the back or chest. I'd sew in the piping rather than gluing ribbon on top, because real piping sits in the seam and looks right in photos. Sturdy brown boots and a leather-look belt with a pouch finish the body. A shoulder-length brown wig in neat curls or half-up is the hair. Fresh makeup with peach blush suits her. A chunky foam wrist device is the main accessory, with light weathering at knees and elbows.
Gowns, Capes and Horns in a Crowded Hall
Zelda, Peach, Boa Hancock, Scarlet Witch's coat and Maleficent's horns all look magnificent in a photo and then meet escalators, queues and doorways. A few construction choices make them far easier to live with.
- Hem floor-length skirts with the shoes you'll wear, about a finger's width off the ground, and a touch shorter at the front.
- Sew a ribbon loop into the side seam of big skirts so you can hold the hem on stairs with one hand free.
- Attach capes and long coats at the shoulders with snaps or hooks, never by a tie at the throat.
- Keep horns and crowns light and narrow, and anchor them with a band or strap, not just pins in a wig.
- Add a pocket in the skirt seam. Gown wearers always end up holding their phone otherwise.
Knee Boots Versus Boot Covers
So many of these women characters wear coloured knee or thigh boots: Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Sailor Moon, 2B, Asuka. Real boots in those colours are hard to find and often uncomfortable. Boot covers sewn from stretch vinyl over your own supportive trainers or flats solve both problems. Cut them with an elastic strap under the sole, leave the tread uncovered so you don't slip, and put a zip at the back of the calf. You'll walk further and your feet will thank you.
Start With the Colours, Then Sew the Rest
This list runs from closet costumes to fantasy gowns and anime uniforms, and every one of them starts the same way. Pick a character you love, then get the colours, hair, clothing outline and one or two accessories right. Small details can wait or be skipped altogether. Comfortable shoes, breathable fabric, a well-pinned wig and light props decide how your day goes far more than accuracy does. Adjust coverage, budget, fit and difficulty to suit yourself. Cosplay is a creative hobby, not a test, and you'll look best in the costume you're excited to wear.
