Monster High characters are a gift to anyone who dresses people for Halloween, because each ghoul was designed like a fashion doll first and a monster second. That means the costume is mostly clothing you can actually find: a plaid dress, a cropped jacket, striped tights, platforms. The monster part usually comes down to a wig, a pair of ears or fins, and some graphic makeup. When I build one of these, I lock in the character's two or three signature colours before buying anything, because colour is what people read from across a room. Below are 35 ghouls, from the original school crew to the later international and hybrid characters, with notes on what makes each one recognisable and where the usual trouble spots are.

The Wig Does Most of the Talking
With Monster High, people recognise the hair before the clothes. Frankie, Draculaura, Lagoona and almost every other ghoul has a two-tone or streaked wig that is drawn bigger and brighter than real hair, so a costume with the right outfit and the wrong hair usually reads as a generic doll. I buy the wig first and match the fabrics to it, not the other way round.
- Streaks without dyeing: buy the base colour, then clip in coloured synthetic extensions or wefts. They are cheaper than a custom wig and you can reuse them.
- Shedding: shake a new wig out and comb it gently from the ends upward before the night, so the loose fibres come out at home instead of on your shoulders.
- Static and frizz: a spray bottle of water with a little fabric softener calms synthetic fibre. Never use a hot tool on a wig that isn't labelled heat-safe, it melts.
- Staying on: a wig cap plus four bobby pins through the cap, at the temples and the nape, holds through dancing. High ponytails and pigtails need extra pins at their base.
If a wig isn't an option for school or work, temporary hair colour spray or coloured hair chalk on your own hair still carries the palette. Do a strand test first, since bright pinks and blues can tint light or bleached hair for a few washes.
1. Frankie Stein Costume With Plaid Dress

Frankie is the one most people will name on sight, so she rewards getting the basics right. A blue, black and white plaid dress with a fitted bodice and pleated skirt goes over a white collared shirt, with a narrow black tie and a silver lightning-bolt belt. Add black-and-white striped tights and chunky platform Mary Janes or lace-up ankle boots. Her long black-and-white wig matters more than the dress, and if you'd rather not wear one, temporary white streaks in dark hair still read. I draw the stitch marks on the cheek and neck with a sharp liquid liner over pale mint base, because a pencil smudges into grey blur within an hour. Silver bolt earrings and a school bag with small lightning symbols finish her.
2. Draculaura Costume With Pink Vest

Draculaura is sweet first and vampire second. A white blouse with sheer puff sleeves sits under a fitted pink vest or lace-up corset top, with a short black skirt trimmed in pink satin and white lace. Opaque tights or attached leggings give coverage, and pink platform boots are far easier to walk in than narrow heels. The wig is a long black one with bright pink streaks in high pigtails. Pigtails pull a wig backward, so I pin through the wig cap at each pigtail base to stop it creeping off the hairline. Rosy makeup, pink lipstick, winged liner and a small heart under one eye do the face, then add tiny fangs, a black parasol and a lace choker or bat purse.
3. Clawdeen Wolf Costume With Purple Jacket

Clawdeen is the fashion one, so the outfit has to look styled rather than thrown together. Start with a black top and a purple animal-print skirt or fitted pants, then a cropped purple jacket with faux-fur trim at the collar and cuffs. Gold belt, layered necklaces and hoops do a lot of the work. Purple tights and sturdy black platforms balance the volume up top. For the wig, choose long brown waves and clip furry wolf ears onto a slim headband set just behind the hairline so the ears sit in the hair, not on top of it. Warm brown makeup, purple shadow and sharp liner with painted fangs carry the face. I'd skip real claws and wear long metallic press-ons, which let you still hold a drink and a phone, plus a small crescent bag.
4. Cleo De Nile Costume With Gold Wrap Dress

Cleo is all about gold wrapping, and how you wrap is what separates regal from bandaged. Choose a fitted turquoise dress and wind gold fabric across the bodice, the waist and one arm. I use gold lamé or a metallic knit cut into strips and tack each end with a few hand stitches; safety pins alone show and pop loose when you lift your arm. A gold belt defines the waist. Opaque leggings underneath help on a cold night. Metallic gold sandals or platform ankle boots work if you can walk in them. Her wig is long and black with straight bangs and blue or gold streaks. Finish with dramatic blue shadow, black cat-eye liner, gold cuffs, a jewelled headband and a scarab purse cut from painted craft foam.
5. Lagoona Blue Costume With Sea Print Outfit

Lagoona is easy to love and easy to over-fuss. A pink halter or fitted tank goes with blue shorts or a scale-print skirt, a cropped aqua jacket and blue fishnet tights for texture. Blue platform sandals or lace-up boots keep her practical. Her wig is long blonde waves with temporary blue streaks. The fins are the giveaway detail: I cut them from craft foam, seal them with a coat of paint, and glue them to a headband rather than to skin, because skin adhesive lets go once you get warm and start dancing. Pearly blue shadow, pink lipstick and a few scale marks at the temples are plenty. A shell necklace and a clear bag of faux pearls round it off.
6. Ghoulia Yelps Costume With Red Pants

Ghoulia is one of the easiest ghouls to pull from a regular closet. A black-and-white striped top goes under a red cropped jacket, with bright red pants or a knee-length skirt and a black corset belt to tie the separates together. Black platform sneakers or buckled boots are comfortable for a long evening. The wig is long blue waves with a green headband across the crown. Her white cat-eye glasses are what make her Ghoulia, so buy a light non-prescription pair; heavy frames slide down your nose all night. If you wear your own glasses, I'd paint or tape a cheap white frame and swap lenses only if your optician agrees. Pale grey makeup, red lipstick and neat liner finish her, plus a comic-style notebook as a prop.
7. Abbey Bominable Costume With Faux Fur Dress

Abbey's costume has two parts that need balancing: a fitted blue dress with pink, purple and white geometric patterns, and a cropped white faux-fur vest or jacket on top. Pale blue shimmer leggings and tall white platform boots carry the snowy palette down. The long white wig with pastel pink, blue and purple streaks is her strongest detail. Keep the horns small and light on a glittery headband. Faux fur is warm, which is a plus outdoors and a problem indoors, so I'd pick a vest over a jacket for a crowded party. Fur also sheds onto everything, so shake the piece outside and lint-roll it before you dress. Icy blue shadow, lavender lipstick and small snowflakes with crystal earrings and a translucent clutch finish her.
8. Spectra Vondergeist Costume With Purple Dress

Spectra should drift, so choose fabrics that move. A fitted purple dress with sheer black sleeves and a chiffon handkerchief hem gives that floating quality every time you walk. Wrap a lightweight silver chain belt loosely at the waist, and check every link and jump ring; cheap costume chain opens under strain and drops pieces on the floor. Purple tights and silver platform ankle boots tie it together. Her long purple wig with deeper violet streaks needs smooth volume, so brush it with a wide-tooth comb and a light spray of fabric softener mixed with water to calm the static. Lavender makeup, dark purple lipstick and a clean smoky eye are enough. Chain earrings and a clear envelope purse nod to her gossip-reporter side.
9. Toralei Stripe Costume With Orange Jacket

Toralei suits anyone who likes a punk edge. A red-orange tank goes with black skinny pants or a striped mini over opaque tights, plus a cropped orange jacket and a studded black belt. Black combat boots fit her attitude and survive a long night. The short orange wig with darker tiger streaks and pointed cat ears on a matching headband is what makes her read. Warm orange makeup at the temples, bold liner, a small cat nose and thin whiskers do the face. I attach her striped tail with a safety pin through a sewn fabric tab rather than through the tail itself, which otherwise rips once someone steps on it. Fingerless gloves and a small microphone prop finish her.
10. Venus McFlytrap Costume With Green Leggings

Venus mixes plant-monster green with hot pink punk. A black graphic top, a pink-and-green patterned skirt and bright green leggings with curling vines make the base; you can draw the vines with a fabric marker on plain leggings if you can't find printed ones. Pink platforms or black combat boots with green laces carry it down. A cropped denim vest covered with artificial leaves gives a handmade finish. Style the long pink wig with one side braided or swept tight. I glue leaves to the vest with fabric glue, not hot glue, because hot glue peels off denim the first time it bends. Green shadow, pink lipstick and fine vine lines at the cheekbones finish her, with bracelets and a silk-leaf purse.
11. Rochelle Goyle Costume With Stone Print Dress

Rochelle reads as gothic and sweet at once. A black-and-white striped top goes under a grey fitted dress or structured skirt with a pink waistband. For stone-effect tights, sponge-stamp grey fabric paint onto plain tights while they're stretched over a board, or the pattern cracks the first time you pull them on. Grey platform boots or Mary Janes keep the palette tight. Her long pale pink wig with blue streaks is the softest part of the look. The wings come from foam sheets with curved carved lines; I keep them under shoulder width so you can sit down. Soft grey makeup, pink blush, rose lipstick and a few faint crack lines at the temples, plus a headband with tiny horns and a little sketchbook, finish her.
12. Robecca Steam Costume With Blue Corset

Robecca is a steampunk ghoul, so she lives on metallic texture. Layer a blue fitted top or corset over a black puff-sleeve blouse, then a brown ruffled skirt with metallic leggings or riveted-look tights. Bronze lace-up boots give the Victorian-industrial base. Her long dark blue wig has curled ends, with bronze goggles pushed up on top. I skip full metallic body paint every time; it rubs onto furniture and takes ages to remove. Bronze shadow, blue liner and a couple of painted gears at the cheeks say it faster. Gear earrings, stacked cuffs and a wind-up key cut from light craft foam finish her, and the foam key should be glued to a strip of elastic so it doesn't droop off your back.
13. Operetta Costume With Music Print Pants

Operetta is rockabilly, so the silhouette matters more than any one piece. A red button-front top tied at the waist goes with black capri pants printed with white music notes, and a fitted black jacket or cropped vest adds structure. Black-and-white platform saddle shoes or sturdy heeled booties finish the shape. Her bright red wig sits in a high ponytail with rolled bangs, and the roll is easiest if you set it around a foam roller and pin it before putting the wig on. Winged liner, red lipstick and a music-note design near one eye do the face. Her half-mask on a handle is the smarter choice, since a strapped mask narrows your view all evening. A toy microphone or small guitar prop is optional.
14. Twyla Costume With Purple Layered Dress

Twyla is quieter than most of the ghouls, and that is her charm. A layered purple dress with a fitted bodice, black web patterns and a pale blue ruffle at the hem is the centrepiece. Striped lavender tights and low purple platforms are kinder than tall heels. The long blue-green wig with purple streaks goes into relaxed waves. Her cat-like ears can tuck partly under the hair on a narrow headband. Shadow patterns on the hands or temples should be done with makeup made for skin, and I'd patch-test on the inside of your wrist the night before. A translucent plastic lantern is a light prop. Silver bracelets and a smoky grey crossbody finish her.
15. Catty Noir Costume With Pink Sparkle Dress

Catty is a pop star, so she needs sparkle that survives movement. Choose a bright pink dress with a fitted top and a layered tulle or high-low skirt. A black cropped jacket adds warmth, and glittery pink tights add coverage. Black platform boots give a stable base. The long hot-pink wig in a high ponytail with soft black cat ears is her main read. Glitter is the catch with this one: it gets everywhere and you will find it for weeks, so I set glitter tights and any body sparkle with a light hairspray mist and keep loose glitter off the face. Bold pink shadow, silver highlight, glossy lipstick and a cat nose with whiskers do the makeup. A rhinestone toy microphone, star earrings and a record-shaped bag finish her.
16. Skelita Calaveras Costume With Floral Dress

Skelita is a celebration of decorated skeleton art, and the costume should stay festive. A fitted black dress printed with flowers, hearts and bone motifs, with a full knee-length skirt, gives the doll shape. Add colourful bracelets, a wide floral belt and black ankle boots tied with ribbon. Her long black wig has orange streaks, with several large fabric flowers above one ear; I sew the flowers onto a comb or clip rather than gluing them into the wig, so the wig can be washed later. Use white face makeup sparingly and build elegant black lines and colourful petal shapes on top, avoiding realistic skull effects. Flower earrings and a bright woven bag finish her.
17. Jinafire Long Costume With Green Dress

Jinafire's dragon look uses rich green and gold. A fitted green dress with red accents, a scale-like pattern and an asymmetrical hem sits over opaque green tights with a slim gold belt. Red or gold platforms add contrast. The long green wig with black streaks goes into a sleek high ponytail; smooth it with a little wig-safe serum before tying, because synthetic fibre frizzes if you brush it hard. Light gold horns on a narrow headband and a removable foam tail at the waist complete the dragon parts. Green and gold eye makeup, red lipstick and fine scale marks at the temples handle the face, then gold cuffs, a fan-shaped purse and a small red tassel for movement.
18. C.A. Cupid Costume With Pink Wings

C.A. Cupid is romantic and winged. A pale pink dress with a black bodice, heart-print skirt and layers of white tulle goes with patterned pink tights and black platform Mary Janes. Her white wig with pink streaks can be short curls or a high ponytail. Make the wings from light foam or fabric over wire with black scrollwork outlines, and attach them with elastic straps worn under the dress straps so they don't drag the neckline down. Pink shadow, small heart cheek details and berry lipstick keep the face soft. I'd swap her bow for a heart wand or pink message bag, since a bow prop gets confiscated or knocked into people. Pearl bracelets and heart earrings finish her.
19. Honey Swamp Costume With Green Ruffle Dress

Honey Swamp has vintage film-set charm. Start with a green fitted dress with a flared skirt, purple trim and a faint scale or leaf pattern, plus a small purple shrug and patterned green tights. Purple platform pumps or ankle-strap shoes keep the doll proportions. Her voluminous aqua wig is the one piece you can't fudge, so choose tight curls and shape them with your fingers, never a brush, which turns synthetic curls into a cloud of frizz. Mint shadow, plum lipstick and a soft reptile pattern on the cheeks handle the face. A tiny clapperboard or vintage camera connects to her filmmaking, and dangling earrings with a water-lily bag finish her.
20. Viperine Gorgon Costume With Pink Hair

Viperine is the ghouls' makeup artist, so her own makeup should look clean and deliberate. A black mini dress or tunic with pink and lavender snake-print panels goes over opaque tights, with silver platform boots or pink booties. A fitted metallic belt keeps her tidy and gives you somewhere to hang a small makeup pouch. Her long pale pink wig carries soft fabric snakes woven through it; I stuff those snakes lightly, since heavy ones drag the wig backward within an hour. Lavender shadow, sharp black liner, pink lipstick and a faint scale pattern on the forehead do the face. Oversized sunglasses, a brush belt, silver hoops and a vanity-case bag for your essentials finish her.
21. Elissabat Costume With Purple Cape

Elissabat is the theatrical vampire, built on deep purple and black. A fitted purple dress with a pleated skirt, high collar and black lace panels sits under a short black or plum cape that ends above the knee so you can walk stairs safely. Black patterned tights and stable purple platform boots go underneath. Her long black wig with violet streaks needs a clean centre part; a strip of hairspray along the part keeps it from lifting. Purple smoky shadow, berry lipstick, light blush and a small beauty mark give the screen-star finish. Fangs are optional and best only if they don't make you lisp. Bat earrings, a jewelled choker and a little script or clapperboard nod to her acting career.
22. Gigi Grant Costume With Genie Pants

Gigi is a genie, so she's built on soft, loose shapes. A fitted pink or blue top goes with loose turquoise harem pants gathered at the ankle, plus a cropped vest with gold trim and a wide metallic belt. Gold platform sandals or soft ankle boots match the metal. Her long pink wig with orange or gold streaks sits in a high ponytail. The headpiece can be cut from craft foam and glued to a headband; I seal foam with a couple of coats of paint first so the glue grips and the edges don't crumble. Turquoise shadow, pink lipstick and gold highlight do the face. Stacked bangles and a light lantern purse are enough, and I'd avoid real metal props, which feel heavy after an hour.
23. Kiyomi Haunterly Costume With Kimono Dress

Kiyomi is a floating ghost, so translucence matters. Choose a short kimono-inspired dress in lavender, turquoise and black, a fashion piece rather than a ceremonial garment, and add a wide purple sash, sheer sleeves and opaque tights. Black platform sandals or ankle boots keep you steady. The long blue wig with lavender streaks has face-framing layers. An iridescent highlight on the cheekbones catches flash and party lights nicely. Her face veil should be removable on a headband, lowered for photos and lifted when you walk, since any fabric over the eyes cuts your view in a dim room. Ribbon bracelets and a frosted acrylic purse finish her.
24. River Styxx Costume With Pastel Cape

River Styxx is a friendly reaper in pastels. A black fitted dress with blue, pink and purple panels goes under a short pastel cape with a pointed hood, kept above the knee so it never catches on your heels. Striped tights and sturdy black platforms with colourful laces carry it down. Her long blue-and-pink wig sits in a side ponytail or loose waves; a hood flattens the crown, so I'd style the wig with the hood down for most of the night. Pale lavender makeup, bright pink liner and tiny stars near the temples finish the face. Carry a crescent staff made from foam with rounded edges, plus colourful chain jewellery and a small lantern bag.
25. Bonita Femur Costume With Moth Wings

Bonita is a moth-and-skeleton hybrid, so she mixes soft texture with bone lines. A fitted black bodysuit or long-sleeve top goes with a layered pink-and-black skirt and leggings printed with stylised white bones. Black platforms keep you grounded. Her long pink-and-black wig has soft curls, with fluffy antennae on a headband. The wings are the build: stretch light fabric over flexible wire, paint the pattern, and keep them narrower than a doorway. I bend the wire tips back into small loops and cover them with tape, because a bare wire end will snag hair and tights. Rosy makeup with wing-like lines at the eye corners, faux-fur cuffs and a flower bag finish her.
26. Avea Trotter Costume With Blue Riding Jacket

Avea is a centaur, and the honest answer is to suggest the horse half rather than build it. A fitted blue riding jacket goes over a purple top and black leggings, with a short overskirt or hip panels in blue and purple. Tall black riding boots with low heels add the equestrian read without a bulky body piece you can't sit in. Her long blue wig with purple streaks and soft ears on a slim headband carry the fantasy. Purple shadow, blue liner and a little shimmer finish the face. Fingerless gloves, a foam horseshoe and a small saddle-style crossbody help, and a removable tail at the waistband is the detail that makes people get it.
27. Sirena Von Boo Costume With Mermaid Skirt

Sirena is half ghost, half mermaid, which means one tight skirt and one practical problem. A fitted pale blue top with translucent sleeves goes over a long mermaid skirt that flares below the knee. Pick a stretch knit or put in a back slit, because a woven fishtail skirt makes stairs nearly impossible. Silver platform sandals or ankle boots hide under the hem. Her long lavender wig with aqua streaks flows loose. Fin ear pieces and a small translucent headpiece should be light. Pearly blue eye makeup, lavender lipstick and scale marks at the temples do the face. Shell jewellery and a clear purse with faux pearls finish her, and the sheer panels keep her ghostly without going dark.
28. Nefera De Nile Costume With Gold Jumpsuit

Nefera is Cleo's older sister, sharper and more severe. A fitted blue or teal jumpsuit with gold wrapped panels around the torso, arms and lower legs gives her the sleek line. Add a wide metallic belt and a jewelled collar layered from craft foam or fabric. Gold platform sandals are more stable than thin heels. Her long blue wig with black and gold streaks has a high, sculpted crown, which I build by teasing the crown section and pinning a small foam pad underneath. Bold turquoise shadow, precise liner, bronze highlight and deep red lipstick do the face. The wrapped accents look polished only when they're evenly spaced, so measure and mark them with chalk before you stitch.
29. Howleen Wolf Costume With Orange Hair

Howleen is the casual, sporty sister of Clawdeen, and an easy pick if you don't want anything structured. A purple graphic tank or cropped hoodie over a fitted black shirt goes with denim shorts over striped leggings, plus a sleeveless vest with faux-fur trim. Purple high-tops or lace-up platforms finish the clothes. Her short curly orange wig with small brown wolf ears is what people will recognise. Warm brown makeup, orange shadow, a soft painted nose and a few freckles do the face. Add stacked bracelets and a removable tail at the waistband. A backpack covered in moon and paw patches is the practical win here, since it holds everything you'd otherwise stuff in your pockets.
30. Catrine DeMew Costume With Artist Beret

Catrine is the Parisian artist ghoul. A black-and-white striped top tucks into a lavender skirt with a flared hem, with a cropped purple jacket and opaque black tights over it. Black platform booties or sturdy Mary Janes are comfortable. Her long white wig with purple and pink streaks pairs with a lavender beret worn to one side; pin the beret through the wig cap with two bobby pins in an X or it slides off the slippery fibre. Pale makeup, pink blush, winged liner, a small cat nose and fine whiskers finish the face. Carry a clean palette and an oversized brush cut from craft foam rather than real wet paint, plus a paint-splash crossbody.
31. Amanita Nightshade Costume With Flower Dress

Amanita is a poison-flower ghoul, so she should look lush. A fitted black dress with purple, teal and hot-pink flowers gets a petal-shaped collar and a layered skirt that resembles overlapping leaves. Purple tights and teal platforms keep the saturated palette. Her long blue-purple wig needs volume, with large artificial flowers around the crown. I wire the flowers onto a thin headband so the wig takes no glue at all. Jewel-toned shadow, deep pink lipstick and curling vine marks at the temples finish the face. A floral cuff or fingerless gloves add texture, plus a small mirrored bag with silk petals. Real plants wilt and shed, so stick with fabric flowers.
32. Mouscedes King Costume With Gold Skirt

Mouscedes is the city-princess mouse, with plenty of gold. A pink fitted top goes under a cropped gold jacket, with a metallic pleated skirt over opaque tights and gold platform sneakers or pink booties. Her long pink wig with black streaks forms two high rounded sections that echo mouse ears; I shape those over two small foam balls pinned to the wig cap, which hold the round shape far better than hair alone. Soft mouse ears on a headband are a simpler alternative. Pink shadow, black liner, rosy blush and a tiny painted nose do the face. Foam cheese earrings, layered necklaces, a small crown and a gold city-map clutch keep her grown-up rather than babyish.
33. Scarah Screams Costume With Green Dress

Scarah is the easiest ghoul to assemble from real clothes because her look is straight 1960s. A bright green shift dress with a short black collar goes with black-and-green patterned tights and white platform boots. Her smooth black wig can sit in a tall ponytail or a sleek bob, depending on which version you like. Pale green makeup, heavy winged liner, white shadow and muted pink lipstick handle the face. Pale green foundation tends to transfer onto a collar, so I set it with translucent powder and keep the collar slightly away from the jaw. Long black gloves, green hoops and a small vintage handbag finish her, with a little megaphone charm for her voice.
34. Wydowna Spider Costume With Red Dress

Wydowna's whole identity is the extra arms, and they are the part that needs the most care. A fitted red top, a black web-print skirt, opaque striped tights, a cropped black jacket and sturdy red platforms form the base. Make four lightweight arms from stuffed fabric or tights and stitch them to the back of the jacket, angled down and back so they swing without hitting anyone beside you. Her long red-and-black wig has blunt bangs. Red shadow, graphic liner and small painted eye shapes above the brows add the spider effect; nothing should be stuck near the actual eyes. Web earrings, black gloves and a round web-pattern purse finish her. Keep the spare arms short and soft.
35. Deuce Gorgon Costume With Snake Hair

Deuce is the main male ghoul and a good pick for men, teens or anyone who prefers streetwear to dresses. A black graphic shirt under a green vest goes with dark pants that carry a subtle scale pattern, a studded belt and black high-tops. His short green wig carries several soft fabric snakes with rounded heads; I stitch them to a mesh base and pin that to the wig, which keeps them standing up without much weight. His green sunglasses are the giveaway accessory and can go on top of the head indoors. Light green contour, dark liner and a scale stencil on one temple do the face, with a chain bracelet and a messenger bag with a gorgon emblem.
Fins, Horns and Tails That Survive a Party
The monster details are where these costumes fall apart, usually around the second hour. A fin glued straight to the skin peels once you're warm, a tail pinned through its own fabric tears when someone steps on it, and hot glue goes brittle when you walk outside on a cold night. A few build habits avoid most of that.
Head pieces
Ears, fins, horns and antennae all go on a thin plastic or metal headband, wrapped in a strip of fabric that matches the wig so it disappears into the hair. I glue the pieces with a flexible industrial-strength craft adhesive and leave it overnight; hot glue is fine for a quick fix but lets go under flex. Keep anything on the head under the weight of a small apple or the headband will slip back by mid-evening.
Tails, wings and spare arms
Sew a sturdy fabric loop to the tail or wing base and hook it to a belt or a safety pin through your waistband, so the strain sits on the loop rather than on the piece. Wings and Wydowna's arms should sit within your shoulder width. If they're wider, you'll turn sideways at every doorway and bump people in a crowd.
Foam pieces
Craft foam and EVA foam both soak up paint unevenly, so seal them first with a couple of coats of thinned glue or a flexible primer. That one step stops crumbling edges and makes metallic paint look like metal instead of felt.
Splitting the Roster Across a Group
Monster High is one of the easiest themes for a group because every ghoul owns a colour. When friends dress together, I assign characters by the colours people already wear and the hair they're willing to cover. Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Cleo, Lagoona and Ghoulia make the classic six, and each looks different side by side even in a photo taken from across a room. For a pair, Cleo and Nefera or Clawdeen and Howleen give you a sister set. Agree on one shared element, such as the same striped tights or the same platform style, so the group reads as one school rather than six separate costumes.
Which Ghoul Would You Dress As?
Every one of these ghouls comes down to colour, hair, silhouette and one defining accessory, so spend your effort there rather than trying to copy every tiny print. A properly styled wig, the right tights and a pair of platforms usually beat a packaged costume. Keep wings, tails, horns and props light enough that you can walk, sit and eat in them for a whole evening. The roster is also built for groups, since no two characters share a palette or a monster type. With thrifted clothing and a few craft materials, your favourite Monster High character can look recognisable and still feel like you.
