Lagoona Blue is a sea monster with a swim-team streak, and her wardrobe has always mixed sporty pieces with shimmer, fins and a lot of aqua. Her versions over the years run from Y2K cargo looks and sporty maxi skirts to layered couture dresses and masquerade gowns, so there is plenty of room to make her your own. What never changes is the palette, the long blonde hair streaked with blue, and the fins. You can get most of the way there with thrifted clothing, foam fins you cut yourself and a bit of scale makeup. I've laid out forty versions below, from the classic doll to casual, formal and kid-friendly takes, so every budget and skill level has a starting point.

Cutting Ear and Calf Fins That Stay On
Fins are what separate Lagoona from a girl who likes blue, so they are worth twenty minutes of care. I draw a fin on paper first, a soft curved fan with three or four ribs, and hold it up to my ear in a mirror before cutting anything. Most first drafts come out too big.
- Cut the fins from 2 mm craft foam for ears and slightly thicker foam for calves. Thin foam is light enough not to drag on a clip.
- Score the rib lines lightly with a dull pencil or the back of a butter knife, then warm the foam with a hairdryer and curve it gently with your fingers. It holds the bend once it cools.
- Paint with flexible acrylic or fabric paint in aqua, then dry-brush a lighter blue along the ribs so they catch the light.
- For ears, glue the fin to a small alligator hair clip and clip it into the wig just in front of the ear. For calves, glue a strip of soft elastic to the back and slide it over your tights.
- Seal with a thin coat of matte or satin varnish so the paint doesn't crack when the foam flexes.
A word on glue: hot glue on foam lets go when it gets cold outside, so for a night of trick-or-treating I use a flexible contact cement and let it cure overnight. Clear sheet plastic or organza can stand in for foam if you want translucent fins, but both need a wire edge or stiffener to keep their shape.
1. Classic Lagoona Blue Costume

The classic look is a black fitted tank, a shimmery blue jacket, pink shorts and black fishnets, with white knee socks or leg warmers for the sporty layer. Hair is non-negotiable: long blonde with aqua streaks, from a highlighted wig or washable color. Bright blue shadow, glossy pink lips and soft scales at the temples cover the face. I cut the ear fins from thin craft foam and glue them to small clips, because anything heavier droops by the second hour. A fish-shaped purse or a clear aquarium-style bag and black platform sandals or wedge sneakers finish it, and you can wear the lot for hours.
2. Modern Lagoona Blue Costume

For a modern take, try a pink cropped hoodie, turquoise bike shorts and a sheer printed overshirt in a wave, scale or watery gradient print. Long aqua hair with blonde and lavender pieces looks best in loose curls that move. Glossy lids, pearly cheeks, blue lipstick and a few scales near the eyes. Fin earrings and a shell necklace say sea monster without bulk, and a clear mini backpack full of faux bubbles or shells is a cute carry. Iridescent crew socks and chunky pastel sneakers make this one of the comfiest versions for school parties and casual gatherings.
3. Original Doll Lagoona Blue Costume

Doll collectors will recognize this one straight away. A glittery aqua tank goes under a cropped black jacket, with pink athletic shorts over black fishnet tights and white socks striped in blue. The long blonde wig needs bold turquoise streaks, kept softly waved, with a small flower pinned by one ear. Blue shadow, pink gloss, pearly highlighter and fine scales across the upper cheeks. Foam fins at both the ears and the calves are what make it read as her and not just a girl in blue. Carry a fish-shaped handbag, and pick platform flip-flops or wedges with a proper ankle strap; loose flip-flops on platforms are how ankles get turned.
4. Pink Skin Lagoona Blue Costume

Her newer pink coloring needs a pink long-sleeve bodysuit or fitted top with matching opaque tights. Over that, turquoise cargo shorts and a sheer purple mesh shirt give the underwater contrast. A long aqua wig with pastel rainbow streaks looks right in relaxed beach waves. I wouldn't paint the whole face pink; a rosy base with iridescent highlight gives the idea and is far more comfortable, and it won't transfer onto everyone you hug. Turquoise scales on the cheekbones, coral gloss, fin clips, shell jewelry and a clear jellyfish backpack with a small plush fish. Translucent platform sandals or aqua sneakers with removable fin shapes on the sides.
5. Blue Skin Lagoona Blue Costume

For the blue-skinned original, a pale aqua bodysuit or long-sleeve shirt with matching tights does more than face paint ever could, and it means you only need blue makeup around the eyes and temples. Add a black-and-teal swim-style top, pink shorts and fishnets for the sporty shape. A long blonde wig with strong blue highlights, waves left loose. If you do paint, go light and set it with powder, because full-face aqua creases and rubs off on collars fast. Pink lips, shimmery lids and painted scales keep it lively. Put soft fins on a headband and on the calves, carry a clear bowl-shaped purse with faux sea plants, and wear black wedges with striped socks.
6. Y2K Lagoona Blue Costume

Y2K suits her down to the ground. A mesh fish-print baby tee over a hot-pink cami keeps the colors loud, and turquoise cutout cargo pants do the rest. Two high space buns with long aqua and blonde strands loose at the face are fun, but use a wig with a strong cap or plenty of pins; buns pull a wig back. Frosted blue shadow, glossy pink lips, a few rhinestones and small iridescent scales at the temples. Tinted oval sunglasses, fin earrings, a clear jellyfish backpack, a notebook and a giant novelty pencil for the school theme. Platform sneakers or chunky clear sandals you can actually walk in. Great in a group photo.
7. Sporty Lagoona Blue Costume

When comfort comes first, go sporty. An aqua athletic tank, black running shorts with pink side stripes and patterned fishnets, topped with a cropped zip jacket in clear blue or light mesh. Pull the blonde-and-teal wig into a high ponytail and secure the base with a hair tie and two crossed bobby pins, because ponytails on wigs slip when you move. Waterproof blue shadow, pearly highlight, pink gloss and a few scales at the outer eye. Ear fins, a shell whistle, a sticker-covered water bottle and a little fish plush peeking out of a drawstring bag. Striped crew socks and supportive aqua sneakers for a long, active party.
8. Swim Team Lagoona Blue Costume

She's a swimmer, so lean into it. A turquoise athletic swimsuit goes over opaque pink tights or fitted leggings, and a cropped black warm-up jacket with matching shorts gives more coverage. Keep the aqua-and-blonde hair in a long ponytail. Water-resistant blue eye makeup, pink lip stain and shimmering scales at the temples. Blue ear fins, swim goggles on the head and a shell-shaped medal tell the story instantly. A clean kickboard painted with waves or a light trophy works as the prop. Skip bare feet and wear turquoise water shoes or sporty sandals with ankle straps. No dress, no complicated wig styling, no construction.
9. Cheerleader Lagoona Blue Costume

An aqua pleated skirt with a fitted pink-and-black varsity top turns her into an ocean cheerleader. Her name or a simple wave across the chest in removable iron-on letters looks sharp, though felt letters on a polyester top tend to peel, so stitch the corners down if you're not sure the glue will hold. Pale blue tights and striped knee socks underneath. High ponytail on the turquoise-streaked blonde wig, tied with an iridescent bow. Sparkly blue shadow, pink lipstick, scales and tiny gems on the cheekbones. Blue-and-pink pom-poms, light ear fins and a shell megaphone. Cushioned white platform sneakers if you'll be dancing all night.
10. School Uniform Lagoona Blue Costume

Picture her heading to class in a sea-inspired uniform: turquoise pleated skirt, fitted white blouse, black cropped blazer and a pink striped tie. Pale blue tights and knee socks with waves or scales go underneath. Wear the long aqua hair down, one side pinned with shell clips. Blue liner, soft pink lipstick, iridescent highlight and subtle scales at the temples keep the makeup polished. Fin ears, a clear backpack and ocean-themed notebooks with a plush fish on the bag. Black platform loafers or lace-ups with a low heel. If you're wearing it to an actual school, check the dress rules first; some don't allow wigs or makeup, and the uniform alone still reads with the fins.
11. Picture Day Lagoona Blue Costume

Picture-day Lagoona is neat and camera-ready. A fitted turquoise blouse with puff sleeves goes with a layered pink-and-black mini skirt, pale blue tights and a metallic belt hung with shell charms. Glossy waves in the blonde-and-aqua hair, one side pinned back with pearl barrettes. Blue winged liner, pink gloss, luminous cheeks and carefully painted scales around the eyes; precise scales matter here because close-up photos show every wobble. Sea-inspired drop earrings and small fin clips rather than big prosthetics. Carry a school folder or a framed mock yearbook photo, and wear iridescent platform Mary Janes.
12. Dance Class Lagoona Blue Costume

Movement-friendly starts with an aqua dance leotard, a pink wrap skirt and black fishnets, plus a sheer cropped shrug with soft fin-shaped sleeves. Put the highlighted hair in a secure bun or braided ponytail with tiny shell clips. Shimmery turquoise lids, pink lipstick and scales sweeping from the cheekbone to the hairline. A blue-and-coral ribbon wand is light and easy to carry. Fin earrings and a small dance bag dotted with faux pearls. Wear aqua ballet flats, dance sneakers or low Mary Janes outside; real performance slippers wear through fast on pavement.
13. Party Dress Lagoona Blue Costume

For a party, choose a fitted turquoise dress with a shimmery scale-print bodice and a layered pink skirt, plus a sheer black mesh panel or cropped bolero for the darker accent she always has. Soft waves in the hair with a coral flower or shell headband. Iridescent shadow, defined blue liner, glossy pink lips and luminous scales on the temples. A tiny fishbowl purse is a fun prop that doesn't take over. Shell earrings, pearl bracelets, light ear fins. Silver platform sandals or turquoise wedges, and I'd add gel insoles and check the ankle straps before you leave the house.
14. Prom Lagoona Blue Costume

A floor-length turquoise mermaid gown makes a dramatic prom Lagoona. Look for a fitted bodice, a flared hem and pink ruffles that suggest coral or waves, and add a sheer blue capelet or organza shoulder fins. Half-up curls in the aqua-streaked blonde hair under a shell tiara. Sparkly blue lids, pearly cheekbones, coral-pink lipstick and neat scales framing the eyes. A clear clutch of faux pearls, fin earrings and a sea-inspired necklace. Mermaid gowns are narrow at the knee, so try climbing stairs in it before the night; silver wedges or low turquoise block heels under the hem are kinder than stilettos. Formal enough for a themed dance or a cosplay competition.
15. Homecoming Lagoona Blue Costume

Homecoming Lagoona is shorter and bouncier. An aqua skater dress over a pink tulle underskirt, black mesh sleeves and a silver shell belt that ties the colors together at the waist. Curl the turquoise-and-blonde hair and pin two small twists at the crown. Bright blue liner, glossy coral lips, pearly highlight and fine scales on the cheekbones. A wrist corsage of artificial sea flowers is a sweet twist. Mini fish purse, translucent fin earrings, platform Mary Janes and sparkly ankle socks, with optional removable shoe fins. Tulle can scratch bare legs after a few hours of dancing, so a soft slip underneath helps.
16. Haunt Couture Lagoona Blue Costume

Runway Lagoona is built on a fitted pink scale-print dress with layered iridescent ruffles and a translucent teal jacket. I make the sleeve fins from organza, stiffened with a light spray starch, because it holds a shape without weighing the sleeve down. Extra-long blonde hair with vivid blue streaks gives the fashion silhouette. Luminous aqua shadow, dramatic lashes, pink gloss and pearly scales running toward the hairline. A sea-inspired chain belt, a shell headpiece, starfish-print socks and a clear aquarium handbag. Platform wedges trimmed with light tentacle or wave shapes. Every trim needs to be flexible and sewn or glued on securely, or it will be on the floor by the end of a contest.
17. Masquerade Lagoona Blue Costume

As an underwater masquerade guest, she wears a blue pleated mini dress with exaggerated iridescent fin sleeves and a sculpted belt of metallic cord, shells and soft eel-like curves. Smooth waves fall under a delicate sea-creature headband. Shimmery turquoise eyes, highlighted cheekbones, coral lips and scales across the forehead. A pearl-tipped anglerfish demi mask carried on a stick keeps it cute and saves your vision. Fin earrings, a little shell clutch, and iridescent thigh-high boot covers over comfortable platform ankle boots. It looks intricate, but soft fabric and foam keep the weight down.
18. Black And White Lagoona Blue Costume

Going monochrome turns her into a vintage-film monster. A gray scale-print top, black track shorts, charcoal fishnets and a cropped silver jacket. An extra-long platinum wig with one pale aqua streak keeps a hint of water. Grayscale makeup with charcoal liner, silver-lit cheeks, gray lipstick and soft scales. Black ear fins, retro sunglasses and a small monochrome fish plush, plus a vintage-style movie poster prop with waves and your own sea-creature drawing. Black platform sandals or lace-up wedges. Gray lipstick looks odd in person but sharp on camera, so this one is really for photos, screenings and groups where everyone goes grayscale.
19. Beach Lagoona Blue Costume

Casual beach Lagoona is a turquoise one-piece swimsuit under pink board shorts and a loose black mesh cover-up, with blue or pink tights if you need coverage or warmth. Loose beach waves in the hair and a tropical flower clip on one side. Waterproof mascara, sparkly blue liner, coral gloss and a few iridescent scales at the temples. Shell earrings, ear fins, big sunglasses and a clear beach tote. A rolled striped towel or a small inflatable fish is the prop. Secure platform sandals or bright water shoes. It's an easy pick for a pool party in warm weather; in late October, keep it indoors.
20. Resort Lagoona Blue Costume

On vacation, she'd wear a turquoise crop top with a flowing printed maxi skirt and a sheer pink kimono. A wave, shell or abstract water print on the skirt matters; a plain solid one makes the whole outfit look like regular summer clothes. Tie a matching bandana over the wig and leave soft aqua curls out at the face. Luminous skin, turquoise liner, glossy pink lips and a light touch of scales. Shell sunglasses, fin earrings, layered pearls and a little fan. A structured shell purse or small travel case is the prop. Iridescent platform sandals with ankle socks if you like.
21. Festival Lagoona Blue Costume

Festival Lagoona is all color: a pink metallic crop top, a turquoise fringe skirt, black fishnets and a sheer wave-print jacket. Aqua hair with blonde and lavender sections goes into two bubble braids studded with pearls and shell clips. Vivid blue shadow, graphic pink liner, iridescent highlight and scattered scales around the eyes. Fin earrings, stacked bracelets and a clear hands-free belt bag. A small fan or rolled band poster is light to carry. Chunky turquoise boots or supportive platforms for standing and dancing. Bubble braids are pinned at every section, which is good news, because they hold up in a crowd far better than loose waves.
22. Mermaid Lagoona Blue Costume

A mermaid silhouette blends nicely with her sea-monster details. A fitted aqua top with clear fin sleeves goes over a long pink-to-blue scale-print skirt that flares below the knee. Make sure the skirt has a walking slit or enough stretch; a true fishtail turns every step into a shuffle. Wet-look waves with pearls, shimmery blue shadow, coral lipstick, luminous scales and fine fin lines at the temples. Ear fins, shell jewelry and a clear purse of faux sea grass. Hidden turquoise wedges or flat ankle boots under the skirt keep you safe on land.
23. Sea Princess Lagoona Blue Costume

Sea princess Lagoona wears a layered turquoise ball gown with coral-pink panels and shimmery scale details, plus a sheer fitted cape that moves like water and stops before the floor. Long aqua-and-blonde curls under a light shell crown dotted with pearls. Metallic blue lids, luminous skin, glossy pink lips and neatly placed scales at the temples. Fin earrings and a shell necklace make it clear she's a sea monster and not a generic princess. A pearl-covered scepter topped with a starfish or wave, built from foam or a dowel, nothing sharp or heavy. Silver flats or low turquoise block heels. Lovely for a costume ball or a family-friendly stage appearance.
24. Sea Fairy Lagoona Blue Costume

A sea fairy mixes her palette with delicate fantasy. A fitted turquoise dress, layered pink petal skirt and pale blue tights are the base, with translucent fin-shaped wings in aqua and lavender. Keep the wings compact; measure them against your shoulders, because anything wider than you will catch in doorways. Loose curls with pearl strands woven through small braids. Sparkly blue liner, pink gloss, highlighter and scales scattered like fairy freckles. Ear fins, shell bracelets and a wand topped with ribbons and bubbles. Iridescent ankle boots or lace-up ballet flats. A sweet choice for younger fans and daytime parties.
25. Jellyfish Lagoona Blue Costume

Jellyfish Lagoona is a translucent turquoise cape over a fitted pink dress and pale blue leggings. Sew soft ribbons under the cape so they trail like harmless tentacles; I stitch rather than glue them, because hot glue on chiffon peels the minute it gets cold outside. Keep them short of the floor. Two high buns with curled strands at the face, luminous lavender shadow, blue liner, pink lips and pearly scales on the cheekbones. Clear ear fins and a jellyfish headpiece made from light fabric and ribbon. A clear backpack or bubble wand, and clear rain boots or platform sneakers. Reflective fabric gives a glow under flash without wiring any lights.
26. Coral Reef Lagoona Blue Costume

Reef Lagoona is a turquoise mini dress covered in removable pink, purple and orange ruffle appliqués over pale blue tights, with a fitted mesh jacket shaped by small shoulder fins. Braid coral ribbons and pearl clips through the blonde-and-aqua hair. Turquoise shadow, coral lipstick, shimmer and multicolored scales at the temples. Shell earrings, a reef headband, a clear bag of faux sea plants and a little plush tropical fish. Aqua ankle boots trimmed with soft coral shapes. Attach the appliqués with snaps or safety pins on the inside so they come off for washing, and keep every piece soft enough to sit on.
27. Deep Sea Lagoona Blue Costume

Deep-sea Lagoona is moodier but still bright. A navy scale-print dress with teal mesh sleeves and vivid pink accessories, plus iridescent leggings that flash blue and purple under normal light. Extra-long dark aqua hair with pale blonde streaks in deep waves. Navy liner, turquoise shadow, pearly scales and a glossy magenta lip. Fin ears, glowing-look pearl clips and an anglerfish headband in light foam. Carry a clear lantern-shaped purse full of faux bubbles instead of a real light. Navy platform boots with teal boot fins. Without the pink, this palette goes gloomy fast, so keep those accessories in.
28. Pastel Lagoona Blue Costume

Pastel Lagoona softens everything. A lavender cropped sweater, a mint pleated skirt, pink fishnets and a pale aqua vest with sheer fin panels. A long pastel-blue wig with blonde, pink and lilac streaks in loose curls; pastel wigs show grease and tangles more than dark ones, so detangle gently after each wear. Lavender shadow, mint liner, rosy gloss, pearl highlight and tiny rainbow scales. Clear ear fins, a shell clip, stacked pastel bracelets and a clear mini purse of faux pearls and sea charms. White platform Mary Janes with aqua socks. Good for anyone who wants water without bright primaries.
29. Goth Lagoona Blue Costume

A gothic makeover suits her better than you'd think. Choose a black velvet dress with teal scale panels and a layered purple hem, fishnet tights and a cropped sheer jacket with fin-shaped cuffs. Long black hair with bold aqua streaks swaps the blonde for drama, worn in waves or half-up. Smoky navy shadow, precise turquoise liner, dark berry lips and silver scales at the temples. Black ear fins, shell earrings and a chain belt with sea charms. A black fishbowl handbag with blue detail and platform lace-up boots. Playful ocean details keep it on the fun side of spooky.
30. Punk Lagoona Blue Costume

Punk Lagoona starts with a turquoise graphic tank, a black faux-leather vest, a pink plaid skirt and ripped-look fishnets over blue leggings. Put the aqua-and-blonde hair in a high ponytail or a temporary fauxhawk with washable color and strong clips. Bold winged liner, pink-and-blue shadow, glossy lips and angular scales. Fin ears, shell pins, stacked wristbands and a chain belt with light ocean charms. A customized fish crossbody or a sticker-covered school bag, and black platform combat boots laced in turquoise. Removable patches and clip-on hardware give the attitude without ruining your clothes, and closing every pin matters if kids are around.
31. Preppy Lagoona Blue Costume

Preppy Lagoona pairs a turquoise sweater vest with a crisp pink blouse and a black pleated skirt, pale blue tights, striped knee socks and a narrow shell-detail belt. Smooth waves in the blonde hair with aqua streaks and a coordinated headband. Fresh makeup: turquoise liner, pink gloss, luminous cheeks and a small cluster of scales at each temple. Fin earrings, pearl bracelets, a structured clear handbag and a sea-themed notebook. Glossy platform loafers. It's subtle enough for a spirit day or an office party, and if your workplace frowns on wigs, clip-in aqua streaks in your own hair get the idea across.
32. Winter Lagoona Blue Costume

Trick-or-treating in the cold calls for a turquoise sweater dress, pink thermal tights and an iridescent puffer. A black scale-print scarf and blue leg warmers add warmth. Wear the aqua-and-blonde wig under a shell-decorated beanie so the streaked lengths still hang out. Keep scale makeup to the temples and upper cheeks where the scarf won't rub, and set it with powder. Blue shadow, rosy pink lips and pearly highlight. Fin earrings, warm gloves and a clear backpack with a fish plush. Turquoise snow boots with thick socks and removable fin accents. Bright and practical for parades and chilly evenings.
33. Rainy Day Lagoona Blue Costume

Rain suits a water monster. Layer a clear aqua raincoat over a pink sweater and turquoise pleated skirt, with opaque blue tights. Two low braids under a clear bucket hat dotted with shell stickers keep the wig tidy in the wet; synthetic hair frizzes in damp air, and braids hide it. Waterproof blue liner, pink lip stain, pearly highlight and small scales at the temples. Soft ear fins tucked under the hat and a bubble-shaped clear umbrella as the main prop. A fish-themed backpack, shiny turquoise rain boots and striped boot socks.
34. Pajama Lagoona Blue Costume

Pajama Lagoona is the cozy option. An aqua pajama set printed with waves, bubbles or friendly fish, a pink robe with sheer fin cuffs and fluffy blue socks. A blonde-and-turquoise wig in a loose side braid, or aqua extensions clipped into your own hair. Soft makeup: shimmery blue shadow, glossy pink lips, highlight and just a few scales. A shell sleep mask pushed up on the head, leaving the ear fins visible. A fish plush and a clear water bottle as props. Turquoise slippers with real soles indoors, cushioned sneakers outside. Long robe belts trail and trip, so tie them short.
35. Spa Day Lagoona Blue Costume

Spa-day Lagoona wears a turquoise athletic romper, a sheer pink robe and pale blue leggings, with a scale-print fabric headband and the long hair left down the back. The makeup plays at a beauty treatment: luminous blue shadow, pink balm, pearly scales and a pastel face-mask effect painted only on the cheeks. Fin earrings, shell clips and simple pearl bracelets. A shell cosmetic case holding a comb, hair ties and colorful clips is a safe, useful prop. Iridescent wedges or cushioned aqua slides with heel straps. It's a fun one for sleepovers and themed parties.
36. Easy DIY Lagoona Blue Costume

Your closet probably has the bones of a DIY Lagoona already: a turquoise tank, pink shorts, black mesh tights and any cropped blue jacket. Clip cheap aqua extensions into long blonde hair, or add blonde streaks to a blue costume wig. Blue shadow, pink gloss, highlight and scales pressed through a mesh stencil. Cut ear and calf fins from blue craft foam and fix them to clips or elastic. A clear purse with shells or a fish plush, striped socks and black platform sneakers or sandals. Get the colors, the streaked hair and the fins right, and even a budget version is clearly her.
37. Last-Minute Lagoona Blue Costume

Short on time? An aqua T-shirt, pink athletic shorts and black fishnets are the core. Knot a sheer blue scarf around the shoulders to suggest watery fins, no sewing needed. Hair loose with temporary turquoise streaks, or a long blue wig from the costume shop. Sparkly aqua shadow and pink lipstick, then quick scales pressed through a piece of clean mesh. Fold cardstock covered in blue paper into ear fins and clip them into your hair; cardstock goes limp if it gets wet, so it's for one dry night only. A clear tote with a towel and a fish plush, and black wedges, platforms or sneakers.
38. Plus Size Lagoona Blue Costume

Comfort decides the plus-size version. A turquoise skater dress, or a fitted top with a flowing pink skirt, works with a sheer black mesh jacket, opaque blue tights and a wide shell-detail belt if you like one. I'd choose shapes that let you move rather than forcing the doll's exact proportions. Curled aqua-and-blonde hair swept to one side with pearl clips. Shimmery blue eyes, glossy pink lips, radiant highlight and scales on the temples. Soft ear fins, shell jewelry and a clear fishbowl purse. Supportive platform sneakers or wide-fit block-heel ankle boots. Adjustable belts and breathable layers keep it comfortable for a long event.
39. Kids Lagoona Blue Costume

For kids, soft fabric and easy movement come first. A turquoise T-shirt dress with pink leggings, a black mesh skirt overlay and a light zip jacket. Washable aqua spray on a blonde wig, or clip-in extensions in their own hair; most kids will pull a wig off within the hour, so extensions often last longer. Minimal makeup: blue shadow, pink balm, cheek shimmer and a few painted scales, patch-tested on the wrist first. Soft felt ear fins are kinder than stiff ones. A small fish plush, a shell bracelet and a light clear backpack. Striped socks and supportive turquoise sneakers, never tall platforms, and reflective wave stickers so cars can see them.
40. Glam Lagoona Blue Costume

To close the list, the full glam version: a fitted turquoise sequin jumpsuit with a pink ruffled overskirt and a translucent blue cape, cinched with a silver shell belt. Extra-long aqua-and-blonde hair in polished Hollywood waves with pearl barrettes. Metallic turquoise lids, sharp blue liner, glossy coral lips, luminous cheekbones and intricate iridescent scales. Statement fin earrings, layered shell necklaces and long gloves with sheer fin cuffs. A clear pearl-filled clutch, and silver platform heels or glittery block-heel boots. Sequins scratch the inner arms after a few hours, so a soft lining or a thin long-sleeve layer under the jumpsuit is worth it. Made for contests and staged photos.
Getting Aqua Streaks Without Dyeing Your Hair
Her hair is half the costume, and you don't need to bleach anything to get it. A pre-streaked wig is easiest. If you have blonde or light hair, clip-in aqua extensions placed at the front and under the top layer give natural-looking streaks. Washable hair color sprays and chalks work too, though they rub onto collars and pillowcases, so I keep them away from a white top and sleep on an old towel.
Long wigs tangle at the nape where they rub against a jacket. Brush from the ends up with a wide-tooth comb, a light mist of diluted fabric softener helps on cheap fibre, and keep curling irons away unless the label says heat resistant.
Scales Through Fishnet, and Getting Them Off Again
The mesh trick is the fastest way to get even scales. Stretch a clean piece of fishnet or a mesh laundry bag over the temple, hold it flat, and dab a shimmery cream or powder shadow over the top with a sponge. Lift straight off. Patch-test any new product on your inner wrist the day before, and keep glitter well away from the eyes.
- Use a damp sponge for cream products and a dry one for powder; mixing them smears the pattern.
- Set the scales with translucent powder so they don't slide on a warm night or print onto a scarf.
- Take everything off with an oil cleanser or micellar water before washing, and wash the mesh with soap before reusing it.
Blonde, Aqua and a Pair of Fins
Every Lagoona here comes back to the same short list: ocean colors, streaked blonde hair, scale makeup, fins, a sea-themed prop and shoes you can stand in. Beyond that, she bends into almost any style, sporty, preppy, mermaid, couture, pastel or goth. Raid your own closet for a cheap DIY version, or sew ruffles, fin sleeves and clear accessories for a bigger cosplay. Keep face products skin-safe, props light and footwear right for where you're going. Faithful doll copy or your own underwater spin, there's a version here for every age, size, budget and season.
