Most of the women I style for Halloween want a Disney character that people will name, that photographs well, and that doesn't feel like wearing a costume all night. That's what these looks are. They cover classic characters, princesses, villains, fairies and Pixar favourites, and each one is built from real clothes rather than a heavy theatre costume, so it adapts to a party, a work event, a theme park day or a neighbourhood gathering. For every outfit I've added hair, makeup, accessories, a prop and shoes you can walk in. A lot of it is already in your wardrobe. The trick is letting two or three signature colours do the work, then adding one detail that names the character.

Building a Character Out of Your Own Closet
Before you buy anything, pull out every piece you own in the character's colours and lay them on the bed. With most of the looks below, you'll already have half of it: a black top, a blue cardigan, a yellow dress, a pair of red flats. What you're usually missing is one item in the exact shade, plus the detail that names the character.
When I put these together, I check the colours in daylight, not under bedroom lamps. Warm indoor light turns lavender grey and makes royal blue look navy, and those are the shades that decide whether you look like Daisy or just someone in purple.
- Start with the biggest colour block, usually the dress or skirt, and build around it.
- Thrift stores are good for the one missing piece, especially full skirts, capes and cardigans.
- Spend any budget on the head: a good headband, bow or wig does more than a new dress.
- Try the full outfit on, shoes included, a few days early so you have time to fix a hem or a strap.
1. Minnie Mouse Halloween Outfit With Polka Dot Skirt

Minnie is the easiest place to start because the parts are so simple. Wear a fitted black top with a red midi skirt covered in white polka dots, plus an oversized white collar or a cropped red cardigan if you want a layer. Put your hair in a smooth bun and set a black ear headband with a red bow on top. Red lipstick, soft liner and rosy blush look polished without tipping into stage makeup. A small round black bag or a bow clutch and optional white gloves make the reference clearer. Polka dots are worth checking at a distance: small dots blur into pink from across a room, so I'd look for dots at least the size of a coin. Black tights and yellow flats, red Mary Janes or black sneakers finish it.
2. Mickey Mouse Halloween Outfit With Red Pants

If you'd rather wear trousers, Mickey is the answer. Tuck a black mock-neck top into high-waisted red trousers and add two oversized white buttons at the waistband with felt circles or removable fabric tape. A cropped yellow cardigan brings in his third colour and keeps you warm. Wear a low ponytail or neat bun under a round-ear headband, with neutral eye shadow, defined lashes and a bright red lip. A black belt bag leaves both hands free. I prefer felt buttons with a stitch or two through the centre, because fabric tape lets go on wool and heavy cotton after an hour or so. Yellow loafers, red sneakers or cushioned black ankle boots keep it wearable for hours.
3. Daisy Duck Halloween Outfit With Lavender Dress

Daisy runs on lavender, white and a touch of yellow. Choose a lavender sweater dress, a relaxed shift, or a matching knit top and skirt, then add white tights and a wide pink belt or bow at the waist. Wear a high bun with a lavender bow headband pushed toward the crown, which is what gives Daisy her shape. Lilac eye shadow, fluttery lashes, pink blush and a glossy lip suit her. A white structured bag or a small feather-trimmed clutch adds a playful touch. Yellow ballet flats pull the palette together, though for a lot of walking I'd switch to white sneakers. Lavender is hard to match across pieces, so I buy the dress first and match the bow to it, not the other way round.
4. Snow White Halloween Outfit With Blue Cardigan

Snow White doesn't need a gown to look polished. Start with a mustard-yellow midi skirt and a fitted royal-blue cardigan over a white blouse, ideally one with a rounded collar or puffed sleeves. Small red ribbon details at the sleeves and a red bow headband over a smooth bob or soft curls do the rest. Red lipstick, natural blush and a subtle wing suit the strong primary colours. Carry a red apple-shaped bag or a plain red crossbody, and wear red flats, low block heels or Mary Janes. If your skin is warm-toned, mustard can wash you out near the face; keeping the blue cardigan buttoned high puts the blue next to your face instead. It's a modest choice for offices, school events and long outings.
5. Cinderella Halloween Outfit With Blue Midi Dress

Powder blue gives you Cinderella in a form you could wear to a casual party. Pick a blue satin midi, a tulle-skirted day dress or a simple fit-and-flare, then add a black velvet choker and a pale blue headband. A high bun with a few soft pieces around the face, icy silver eye shadow, highlighter, pink lipstick and a touch of shimmer at the inner eye finish the look. A clear acrylic clutch or a small silver bag nods to the glass slipper. Satin shows every crease, so I hang the dress in a steamy bathroom the night before rather than ironing it hot. Silver flats, clear block heels or glitter pumps and a white wrap or pale blue cardigan for warmth keep the palette intact.
6. Belle Halloween Outfit With Yellow Dress

Golden yellow carries Belle. Wear a yellow wrap dress, a tiered midi or a fit-and-flare with room to move in the skirt, and keep the jewellery to long gold earrings and a fine pendant. A half-up twist with loose curls, held with a gold ribbon or a small rose clip, is her hair. Warm brown eye shadow, soft lashes, peach blush and rose lipstick finish the face. One silk rose or a book-shaped clutch names the character. Gold flats or low block heels keep it wearable. For a cold evening, I'd wrap a cream shawl over the shoulders rather than a coat, since a coat hides the yellow, and the yellow is the whole costume.
7. Ariel Halloween Outfit With Purple Top And Green Skirt

Ariel works without a tail. Pair a fitted purple top with a flowing emerald or sea-green midi skirt; satin, pleats or light sequins hint at scales and still let you walk. Wear a long red wig, or style natural red hair in side-parted waves. Teal liner, pearly highlighter, peach blush and coral lipstick give a fresh, seaside face. Shell earrings, a small lavender or turquoise bag and a decorative comb in your hair as a nod to her dinglehopper keep the props tiny. Sequinned skirts scratch the inside of the arms when you swing them, so if you go sparkly, choose one with a soft lining. Nude sandals, metallic flats or sea-green sneakers suit a warm night or a crowded event.
8. Jasmine Halloween Outfit With Teal Jumpsuit

A teal jumpsuit is a modern, comfortable Jasmine. Look for a wide leg, gathered sleeves, a defined waist or a draped neckline, then add a gold belt, bold earrings, stacked bracelets and a turquoise headband. Style long dark hair in a bubble ponytail with small gold bands between sections. I space the bands about a hand's width apart and pull each bubble out gently with my fingers so it doesn't look like a tube. Warm bronze shadow, black liner, strong brows and berry-pink lipstick make a dramatic face that still reads as tasteful. A lamp-shaped purse or a metallic clutch, gold pointed flats or embellished sandals, and a teal cropped jacket for warmth keep the colour story in one shade.
9. Aurora Halloween Outfit With Pink Dress

A pink dress is the simplest base for Aurora. Choose a dusty rose or bright pink midi with an off-the-shoulder neckline, a fitted bodice or soft draped sleeves, and add a fine gold crown headband rather than a tall plastic tiara. Long blonde hair or a wavy blonde wig falls loose over the shoulders. Rosy eye shadow, fluttery mascara, pink blush and a satin lipstick keep the face soft. A small gold clutch, a simple pendant and an optional single pink rose are all the accessories she needs. Off-the-shoulder necklines slip all night, so I'd add a strip of silicone grip tape or a clear bra strap inside. Nude ballet flats, gold sandals or pink block heels stay comfortable for a long celebration.
10. Rapunzel Halloween Outfit With Purple Corset Dress

Rapunzel comes from soft purple layers. Start with a lavender midi with a lace-up bodice, a square neck or puffed sleeves, and add a purple corset-style belt if the dress is plain. Wear an extra-long blonde braid, or your own hair in a loose side braid, with small silk flowers woven in on pins. Lilac shadow, pink cheeks, a few freckles and glossy rose lipstick keep the face bright. A foam frying-pan prop or a purple crossbody depends on how subtle you want to be. A clip-in braid is heavy if it's all wig fibre, and I'd make the extra length from yarn over a foam core instead. Brown lace-up flats, ankle boots or lavender sneakers finish it.
11. Tiana Halloween Outfit With Green Midi Dress

Fresh greens give Tiana a nature-inspired look that still feels like evening wear. Choose a light green midi with a wrap front, petal-shaped layers or a soft flare, then add a pale yellow sash, pearl earrings, a delicate tiara headband and a small flower clip. Dark hair in a smooth low bun or a polished updo suits her. Gold eye shadow, fine liner, peach blush and a berry lip make a grown-up face. A small recipe book is the cleverest prop here, because it's her story rather than her gown. Pale green flats, cream block heels or gold sandals work, and a short ivory cardigan gives warmth while leaving the green silhouette showing.
12. Moana Halloween Outfit With Red Crop Top And Skirt

Moana is warm earth tones and an easy outfit for a mild evening. Pair a modest red cropped blouse with a high-waisted cream or tan midi skirt, ideally one with a printed border, light fringe or textured panels. Wear long dark hair in natural waves with a small tropical flower behind one ear. Bronze shadow, warm blush, soft highlighter and a natural lip suit her. Add a blue stone-style pendant and a woven crossbody instead of a big prop. Flat brown sandals are the most recognisable shoe, but tan sneakers will treat your feet better. A beige cardigan over the top when it cools keeps it relaxed. I'd leave the fringe off if you'll be sitting on fabric chairs, since it catches.
13. Merida Halloween Outfit With Green Maxi Dress

Deep forest green is the base of a Merida look. Wear a long green dress with full sleeves, a defined waist and enough skirt to walk in, then add a wide brown belt and a small plaid scarf over one shoulder. Choose a big curly red wig, or boost natural red curls with light mousse and a diffuser. Keep makeup minimal: soft brows, peach blush and a few drawn freckles. Rather than archery gear, carry a round brown crossbody with a bear motif or a Celtic-style pattern. Curly synthetic wigs are the type that frizz worst, so don't brush them. I separate the curls with my fingers and a little water before wearing. Brown lace-up boots and a dark green cloak suit an outdoor event.
14. Elsa Halloween Outfit With Blue Sequin Dress

Cool blue shimmer makes Elsa a glamorous evening look. Choose a long-sleeved blue sequin dress, an icy satin midi or a pale blue jumpsuit with a sheer overlay, and add a silver snowflake hairpin and crystal earrings. Wear platinum hair in a loose side braid with a few strands free. Frosted blue shadow, silver liner, glowing skin and a muted pink lip make the icy palette. A silver clutch with a snowflake charm beats a large prop. If you add a sheer white cape, keep it short enough not to drag, and I'd tack it at the shoulder seams rather than tying it at the throat, where it pulls. Silver flats, pale blue boots or low crystal heels finish the outfit.
15. Anna Halloween Outfit With Black Vest And Blue Skirt

Anna's layers make her one of the best picks for a cool October night. Start with a fitted black vest over a long-sleeved light blue blouse, and pair it with a royal-blue midi skirt with floral embroidery or simple painted motifs at the hem. Add a berry capelet or cropped cardigan fastened at the neck. Wear auburn hair or a wig in two neat braids, with an optional pale streak in temporary colour. Rosy blush, brown liner, freckles and a berry tint keep her face lively. A small patterned satchel carries your things. Painted motifs on a skirt look cleaner if you use fabric paint and a stencil cut from a cereal box. Black ankle boots and warm tights keep you comfortable outside.
16. Mirabel Halloween Outfit With Embroidered Skirt

Mirabel is colourful, comfortable and very easy to make your own. Wear a white peasant blouse with scalloped sleeves, embroidery or painted flowers, and pair it with a turquoise ankle-length skirt dotted with butterflies, flowers and shapes in felt or fabric paint. Style dark curls into a chin-length bob and add round green glasses. Soft brows, peach blush, light freckles and a coral lip keep it fresh. A small woven crossbody, blue espadrilles, embroidered flats or white sneakers suit the practical shape. Felt shapes glued to a cotton skirt start lifting at the corners after a few hours, so I add a quick running stitch around each one. Keep the earrings and butterfly clip light so the skirt stays the focus.
17. Isabela Halloween Outfit With Purple Floral Dress

Isabela is all about flowers, which makes her a favourite for parties and photos. Start with a fitted lavender or violet maxi with ruffles, flutter sleeves or a tiered skirt, then add light silk flowers along one shoulder, around the waist and down part of the skirt. Wear long dark hair sleek and side-parted, dotted with matching blooms. Purple eye shadow, defined lashes, highlighter and plum-pink lipstick finish the face. A floral wrist corsage and a lilac bag carry the garden theme. I'd sew flowers onto a ribbon and pin the ribbon to the dress, which keeps the dress undamaged and lets you take them off to sit. Choose purple flats, low heels or neutral sandals to move easily.
18. Alice In Wonderland Halloween Outfit With Blue Dress

Crisp blue and white make Alice comfortable and family-friendly. Wear a knee-length blue dress over a white blouse with puffed sleeves or a rounded collar, then add a white apron-style belt or a removable pinafore. Blonde hair or a wig in smooth waves with a black ribbon headband is her signature. Pale blue shadow, rosy blush, mascara and soft pink lipstick keep it storybook. A teacup purse or a white bag with playing-card charms is plenty. White tights and black Mary Janes finish her. The apron is what makes it Alice, and a cotton one starched with spray starch stays crisp all evening instead of wilting. Add a matching blue cardigan in cold weather.
19. Tinker Bell Halloween Outfit With Green Mini Dress

Tinker Bell can be playful without being too short or too cold. Choose a structured green mini over opaque tights, or a knee-length skater dress for more coverage, plus a sheer green cardigan and light translucent wings across the shoulders. Pull blonde hair into a high bun tied with a narrow green ribbon. Champagne shimmer, highlighter, pink blush and a glossy lip give the fairy finish. Carry a tiny gold pouch of biodegradable paper stars for photos instead of loose glitter, which ends up in every car seat for weeks. Wings on elastic straps dig in by the end of the night, so I wrap the straps in soft ribbon. Green flats with white pom-poms, or green sneakers for walking, finish it.
20. Wendy Darling Halloween Outfit With Blue Nightdress

Wendy Darling is a softer choice than a princess. Pick a modest powder-blue maxi with short puffed sleeves, a high neck and a flowing skirt; a blue prairie dress or tiered cotton style gives the same storybook feel and stays wearable. Brown hair in loose ringlets tied back with a wide blue ribbon, brown mascara, rosy cheeks and a natural pink lip keep her gentle. A small cloth storybook or a star-shaped purse suits the bedtime theme. Blue ballet flats, white Mary Janes or low sneakers sit under the long hem. With a floor-length dress I'd always check the hem in the shoes you'll actually wear, and take it up an inch if it touches. A light blue robe or cardigan adds warmth.
21. Maleficent Halloween Outfit With Black Maxi Dress

Sleek black layers give Maleficent her shape without a theatre build. Wear a fitted black maxi or a long black jumpsuit under a structured purple cape, and add a light horned headband that fits securely. A smooth bun lets the horns sit close to the head. Sculpted brows, plum shadow, sharp black liner, contoured cheeks and a deep red lip make the face. Carry a staff only if the venue allows it, or switch to a raven bag charm. Horn headbands tip backward under their own weight, so I add two small combs to the band or pin it through the bun. Pointed black ankle boots or low heels finish it, and green earrings give one bright note against the black and purple.
22. Evil Queen Halloween Outfit With Purple Dress

Jewel tones make the Evil Queen refined and commanding. Choose a long purple dress with fitted sleeves and layer a black cape with a high white collar over it. A gold crown headband that stays put through the evening matters more than how tall it is. Wear dark hair smooth and centre-parted, or tuck it under a fitted black head covering. Arched brows, grey-purple shadow, a wing, sculpted blush and a dark berry lip give a classic villain face. A red apple clutch beats loose props. The high collar is the piece people struggle with; I cut it from stiff felt or interfacing and stitch it to the cape so it stands without wire. Black pointed flats or purple ankle boots and a wide gold belt finish the look.
23. Cruella De Vil Halloween Outfit With Faux Fur Coat

Black, white and red give Cruella strong contrast and a lot of fashion. Start with a fitted black dress, or black trousers and a silky white blouse, then layer a spotted faux-fur coat or a black-and-white print jacket over it. Wear a split black-and-white wig in big waves. Smoky eyes, defined brows, bright red lipstick and red nails make the face. Long red gloves and a structured red bag are her statement. Black pointed boots, red pumps or two-tone loafers finish it. Faux fur gets hot indoors very quickly, so I'd choose a lighter coat or a fur stole if you'll mostly be inside. Oversized sunglasses can stand in for a bigger prop.
24. Ursula Halloween Outfit With Purple Dress

Ursula in purple and black can be glamorous and still easy to walk in. Choose a fitted purple midi and layer it with a black ruffled shawl, a peplum belt or a flowing cardigan. Style a short white wig up with some texture, or spray a temporary white streak into short hair. Lavender shadow, dramatic liner, high arched brows, contour and a vivid red lip build her face. Shell earrings and a gold shell pendant sit at the neckline. A purple clutch with black ribbon streamers adds a little movement, like tentacles. Short white wigs look flat straight from the bag, so I tease the crown with a comb and set it with hairspray. Black tights and purple ankle boots finish it, or switch to a purple jumpsuit and flared belt.
25. Queen Of Hearts Halloween Outfit With Red Skirt

Red, black and white blocks make the Queen of Hearts easy to read. Pair a black fitted top with a full red midi skirt, then add a white collar and heart-shaped buttons. A black-and-white checked belt or cardigan brings in the playing cards without overloading it. Put your hair in a high heart-shaped bun, or wear a dark updo under a small gold crown. Sharp black liner, red shadow accents, rosy cheeks and a heart-shaped red lip finish the face. A playing-card clutch or a small red bag is enough. The heart bun is easier than it looks: two buns pinned side by side and pulled into points at the bottom. Striped tights and red Mary Janes or black block heels keep it walkable.
26. Yzma Halloween Outfit With Purple Feather Collar

Yzma is sharp purple and a good pick for an indoor party. Start with a sleeveless black maxi, a fitted jumpsuit or a long black skirt and top, then add an oversized purple feather collar from light trim and long purple earrings. Wear a tall black wig swept up, or build a high structured bun with temporary purple accents. Makeup carries her: blue-purple shadow, thin arched brows, sculpted cheeks and plum lipstick. A small bottle-shaped purse or a black clutch suits her better than any lab props. Feather collars shed, and I'd shake the trim outdoors and run a line of clear glue along the stitching before wearing. Keep it narrow at the shoulders so you can sit and mingle.
27. Jessie Halloween Outfit With Cow Print Chaps

Jessie mixes western detail with pieces you may already own. Wear a white button-down with yellow shoulder panels, red trim and wide cuffs, and pair it with dark jeans and removable cow-print chaps made from fabric panels attached at the belt. Add a red cowgirl hat and a long red braid tied with a yellow ribbon. Warm neutral shadow, freckles, rosy blush and a red tint suit her. A small western belt bag keeps your things handy. For the shoulder panels, I cut yellow felt and topstitch it on, because yellow paint on white cotton always looks streaky. Brown cowboy boots are the obvious shoe, tan ankle boots the easy one. Keep the chaps cropped above the ground so you don't trip.
28. Bo Peep Halloween Outfit With Blue Jumpsuit

A blue Bo Peep mixes pastoral details with a practical modern shape. Choose a pale blue wide-leg jumpsuit, a romper over tights, or a matching blouse and trousers, then add a pink waist sash and a short blue cape with scalloped edges. A high ponytail under a pink bow headband, pink shadow, defined lashes, rosy cheeks and a glossy lip suit her. Carry a light crook only where it's allowed, or swap in a slim blue umbrella you'll actually use. Pink arm wraps or wrist cuffs make the reference clearer. Scallops on a cape are easiest in felt, since it won't fray once you cut it. Black lace-up ankle boots or blue flats suit anyone who'd rather skip a dress.
29. Edna Mode Halloween Outfit With Black Dress

Edna Mode is minimal clothes and big accessories, which makes her quick to put together. Start with a structured black shift with long sleeves and a slight flare, plus opaque black tights and a wide black or red belt. Wear a blunt black bob wig with short, precise bangs and oversized round glasses. Matte foundation, defined brows, graphic liner and a muted red lip keep the look sharp. A sketchbook, a tape measure or a small structured bag is her prop. The bangs are what sell it, so I trim a cheap bob wig's fringe straight across with sharp scissors while it sits on a head form. Black platform loafers or low boots and an optional red scarf keep the silhouette clean.
30. Joy Halloween Outfit With Yellow Dress

The last look is Joy, bright and full of energy. Wear a sleeveless yellow fit-and-flare dotted with small blue flowers or stars, with a pale blue long-sleeved top underneath if it's cool. Style a short blue wig into a tousled pixie, light enough to wear for hours. Blue liner, gold shadow, rosy blush and pink gloss make a cheerful face. A glowing-look blue orb purse, a round acrylic bag or a blue crossbody is her signature piece. Bright blue synthetic wigs can look shiny under flash, and a light dusting of dry shampoo takes the shine down. Blue ballet flats, yellow sneakers or slip-ons, breathable fabric and bike shorts under the dress keep you comfortable if you'll be moving a lot.
Wearing a Character to the Office
A lot of these outfits end up at work on the Friday before Halloween, and that's where the closet approach pays off. Your office probably has rules about masks, props and anything too short or too revealing, so plan around them first. Characters built from a skirt, blouse and cardigan, like Snow White, Belle, Alice or Edna Mode, pass most dress codes as they are.
- Leave staffs, crooks and frying pans at home and let the bag or a charm be the prop.
- Keep makeup to a bold lip and a little shimmer rather than full face paint you'd need to remove mid-day.
- Choose a headband you can take off for a meeting and put back on without a mirror.
- Wear shoes you'd normally wear to work in the character's colour, not costume heels.
Is a Wig Worth It for One Night?
Several of these looks depend on hair: Ariel's red, Edna's bob, Joy's blue pixie, Cruella's split colour. If your own hair can get close with a temporary spray or a styling change, I'd skip the wig. If not, a wig is often the single piece that turns an outfit into a character.
Cheap synthetic wigs are fine for an evening if you prepare them. Shake them out, trim any shiny fringe, and wear a wig cap so they sit flat. Keep them away from candles and ovens, since synthetic fibre singes easily. Store them in a hairnet or a bag afterwards, and a short wig will usually give you another year.
Let One Colour Do Most of the Work
Every outfit above works the same way: the character's main colours, one hairstyle and one accessory, worn on clothes you can move in. That's enough to name a character without a store-bought costume. The princesses lean on a single dress colour, the villains on strong contrast and structure, and the classic and Pixar characters on easy separates, jumpsuits and trousers. Adjust for your venue with tights, cardigans, better shoes or a light layer. If you're stuck, I'd start with the colour already hanging in your wardrobe and pick the character who wears it. Minnie, Tiana, Maleficent or Joy, the look comes together once the colour is right.
