A couple costume reads as a pair when both looks share one color story and at least one detail that points to the other person. That's the first thing I sort out with any two people dressing together, before anyone buys a wig. The pairs below run from classic sweethearts and animated animals to royal duos, superheroes, villains and a few best-friend combinations nobody else at the party will have. Most of them can be built from everyday clothes plus some simple DIY, and every entry covers the clothes, hair, makeup, props and shoes. Swap the roles freely; none of these depend on who wears which half. Pick an easy closet version or a big entrance, and plan it around where you'll actually spend the evening.

A Thread of Color Between Two Characters
Some Disney couples already share a palette, like Mickey and Minnie or Joy and Sadness. Many don't. Tarzan and Jane, Giselle and Robert, or Kermit and Miss Piggy look like two strangers standing near each other unless something connects them. When I style a pair like that, I pick one link and repeat it on both people.
- A shared accent color in a small place: a ribbon on a hat band, a pocket square, a hair tie, a pair of socks.
- One prop held between you, like the rose under a dome, the plate of spaghetti or the bunch of balloons.
- Matching materials, such as both wearing gold trim or both wearing faux fur, even when the colors differ.
- The same shoe color, which almost nobody notices on purpose but everyone sees in a full-length photo.
One link is usually enough. Two can still look natural. When I see a couple repeating four or five matching details, the characters start to disappear and they look like a team in uniform instead.
1. Mickey And Minnie Couple Costume

Mickey and Minnie are the pair everyone recognizes, so the details matter more than the concept. One of you wears red shorts with white felt buttons, a black long-sleeve shirt, white gloves, black tights and yellow shoes, plus round ears and a black nose dot. The other wears a red-and-white polka-dot dress, a black cardigan, white gloves, yellow flats or heels and an ear headband with a matching bow. Dark hair goes in a smooth bun, or under a short black wig. I always check that both reds match side by side; a tomato red next to a cherry red looks accidental in photos. A heart-shaped bag or a cheese prop adds some character.
2. Donald And Daisy Couple Costume

Donald and Daisy get by on sailor details and very little crafting. Donald wears a royal blue sailor shirt with white shorts or pants, yellow tights, a red bow tie, white gloves, yellow sneakers, a blue sailor cap and a soft white feather collar. Daisy wears a lavender dress, white tights, yellow flats, white gloves and an oversized pink bow, with a white bob wig or feather-trimmed headpiece around the face. Feather trim sheds, so I give it a good shake outside before getting dressed. Peach blush and purple eye makeup suit her. A duckbill clutch or a light foam bill is the joke, and keeping it light means you can still dance.
3. Aladdin And Jasmine Couple Costume

Turquoise, purple and gold carry Aladdin and Jasmine across a crowded room. He wears loose white pants, a purple vest, a cream sash, brown sandals and a small red fez, with tousled dark hair and a golden lamp made from painted plastic or cardboard. She wears a turquoise cropped top over a skin-tone camisole, flowing matching pants, pointed flats, gold earrings and a jeweled headband, with long dark hair sectioned into a ponytail with turquoise bands. Defined liner and warm gold shadow are enough. I'd buy both turquoise pieces from the same shop if you can, since the color varies a lot between makers. A soft toy tiger or a little carpet-shaped bag is a second prop.
4. Ariel And Prince Eric Couple Costume

Ariel and Eric are the easy-to-wear version of an undersea fairytale. Ariel pairs a fitted purple top with a shimmering green maxi skirt, green flats, pearl earrings and a shell purse, under a long red wig in loose waves with bright lipstick and soft lavender shadow. Eric wears a loose white shirt, dark blue trousers, a red waist sash and tall black boots, with neat dark hair. His shirt should be roomy and a little rumpled; a crisp office shirt makes him look like a waiter. A toy telescope or a coil of rope suits him, and Ariel's silver fork gets a laugh. Both outfits come together easily from thrift stores and closet basics.
5. Belle And Beast Couple Costume

Belle and the Beast bring formal drama without anyone hiding behind a mask. Belle wears a yellow ball gown, or a full tulle skirt with a fitted top, long gloves, gold flats and a rose necklace, with brown hair half up in soft curls. The Beast wears black trousers, a white ruffled shirt, a royal blue tailcoat, a gold vest, white gloves and black dress shoes. I'd give him a brown faux-fur headband with small horns rather than a full mask; masks get hot in about twenty minutes and he'll want to eat and talk. A single artificial rose under a clear dome is the shared prop, and gold trim repeated on both outfits keeps the pair from looking mismatched.
6. Cinderella And Prince Charming Couple Costume

Cinderella and Prince Charming live in soft blue, silver and white. She wears a pale blue ball gown or full midi skirt with a corset-style top, elbow-length gloves, a black ribbon choker and clear or silver low heels, with blonde hair in a high bun and a blue headband. He wears white or cream trousers, a structured ivory jacket with gold shoulder trim, a blue sash and black boots. White trousers show every mark, so he should dress last and skip red wine. A clear acrylic slipper is the obvious shared prop, and a pumpkin-shaped bag is a practical one. If there's a lot of walking, shorten her hem and pick block heels.
7. Snow White And Prince Couple Costume

Snow White and her prince are all primary colors. She wears a blue fitted bodice, a yellow ankle-length skirt, a white collar, a red cape, red flats and a bow headband, with a short black bob wig, red lipstick and rosy cheeks. He wears blue trousers, a cream tunic, a royal blue cape, a red belt and brown knee-high boots, with his hair back and a gold crown or shoulder cord. I cut both capes from the same lightweight fabric in different colors, which links them without making the pair look like a uniform. An artificial apple in a little basket is the prop, and flat shoes handle a long themed evening.
8. Aurora And Prince Phillip Couple Costume

Aurora and Phillip lean medieval. She wears a pink off-the-shoulder gown, a gold necklace and crown, and pink or nude ballet flats, with long blonde curls, rose shadow and berry lipstick. He wears dark trousers, a gray tunic, a black belt, a red cape, a soft fabric hat and tall brown boots. A foam shield is his prop, and Aurora can carry a rose or a small spinning-wheel bag. Off-the-shoulder necklines slip, so I put a strip of fashion tape along the inside edge. Repeat the gold across the crown, belt buckle and jewelry. Mixing velvet, satin and matte cotton gives the pair depth without either look getting fussy.
9. Tiana And Naveen Couple Costume

Tiana and Naveen sit in fresh greens. Tiana wears a light green gown with layered petal-shaped fabric, matching gloves, gold or green shoes and a leaf-inspired tiara, with dark hair in a polished high bun, warm gold shadow and soft pink lipstick. Naveen wears cream trousers, a white shirt, a pale green vest, a gold sash, shoulder pieces and brown dress shoes, with neatly swept hair and a small crown. A faux water-lily bouquet or a frog plush is the shared prop. For a simpler version, a green midi dress with cream suit separates gets you most of the way. I'd match his vest to her gown in daylight before buying, because pale greens drift yellow or blue under different lights.
10. Rapunzel And Flynn Rider Couple Costume

Rapunzel and Flynn work because her floral lavender and his earthy travel clothes are so different. She wears a lavender lace-up dress with puff sleeves, flat purple shoes and a shoulder bag, plus an extra-long blonde braid with artificial flowers and soft pink blush. He wears dark trousers, a white shirt with rolled sleeves, a teal vest, a brown belt, a crossbody satchel and sturdy boots, with tousled brown hair. A long braid gets stepped on at a party, so I loop the end up and pin it at her waist or let her carry it over one arm. The foam frying pan is the shared joke, and a paper wanted poster helps in photos.
11. Anna And Kristoff Couple Costume

Anna and Kristoff are already dressed for the cold, which makes them my pick for an outdoor date. Anna wears a black embroidered vest over a blue long-sleeve blouse, a full royal blue skirt, a magenta cape, dark tights and black boots, with auburn hair in two braids and light freckles. Kristoff wears dark pants, a charcoal tunic, a burgundy sash, faux-fur trim, warm gloves and rugged brown boots, with a shaggy blond wig or swept-back hair. A reindeer plush, coiled rope or a small lantern is the prop. Faux fur sheds onto dark fabric, so keep a lint roller in the car for both of you.
12. Hercules And Megara Couple Costume

Hercules and Megara have bold Greek shapes. He wears a brown pleated tunic over a fitted tan shirt, a blue cape, a wide belt, wrist cuffs and brown lace-up sandals, with a short, very full auburn wig and a foam medallion or a ribbon. She wears a long purple empire-waist dress, gold circular brooches, a matching belt and flat gold sandals, with deep auburn hair in a high ponytail and a curled front section. Purple shadow, winged liner and berry lipstick give her attitude. Lace-up sandals loosen as you walk, so I double-knot and tuck the ties. Repeating gold on both outfits keeps the pair cohesive, and soft foam beats rigid armor every time.
13. Tarzan And Jane Couple Costume

Tarzan and Jane contrast structured explorer clothes with earthy textures. Jane wears a long yellow skirt, a puff-sleeve blouse, a purple neck ribbon, white gloves, brown ankle boots and a wide-brim hat, with a low bun and warm peach makeup. Tarzan's public-friendly version is fitted brown pants or leggings, a draped animal-print tunic with full coverage, leather-look cuffs and barefoot-style brown shoes, with long dark hair worn loose. Binoculars, a sketchbook or artificial jungle leaves beat realistic animal props. A wide hat brim catches on everything in a crowded room, so I'd let Jane carry it for indoor parts of the night. Breathable fabrics help indoors.
14. Peter Pan And Tinker Bell Couple Costume

Peter Pan and Tinker Bell share bright green. Peter wears a leaf-edged green tunic over matching leggings, a brown belt, soft ankle boots and a pointed green cap with a red feather, with tousled auburn hair and a small map or pouch. Tinker Bell wears a strapless-look green dress over a fitted camisole, sheer wings, a sparkly hair accessory and green pom-pom flats, with a high blonde bun and shimmery green makeup. I'd skip the confetti indoors; even paper confetti ends up in someone's drink. A star wand is enough. Keep the wings light and the shoes flexible, because a party crowd will bump into anything sticking out of a back.
15. Alice And Mad Hatter Couple Costume

Alice and the Mad Hatter play blue against orange. Alice wears a knee-length blue dress, a white apron, white tights, black Mary Janes and a black headband, with straight blonde hair or a shoulder-length wig. The Hatter combines striped trousers, a patterned vest, a colorful shirt, an oversized bow tie, a green tailcoat and lace-up boots, with an orange curly wig and a tall top hat with ribbons and a paper price tag. I keep the Hatter's patterns inside one jewel-tone family so the outfit looks quirky on purpose. Mismatched teacups or a small teapot are the shared props. A hidden elastic under the hat stops it toppling whenever he leans in.
16. Queen Of Hearts And Mad Hatter Couple Costume

The Queen of Hearts with the Mad Hatter is the bolder take on Wonderland. The queen wears a red-and-black gown with heart appliqués, a white standing collar, a gold crown, black tights and red boots, with a heart-shaped updo or red wig, heart-shaped lipstick and defined brows. The Hatter wears patterned pants, a bright vest, a colorful tailcoat, a big bow tie, an orange wig, a tall hat and sturdy lace-up shoes. A standing collar flops unless it's backed with stiff interfacing or craft foam, and I'd do that before anything else. A heart scepter and teacup make safe props, and red repeated through both looks ties them together for a couple who likes theatrical makeup.
17. Cruella And Dalmatian Couple Costume

Cruella with a Dalmatian is a villain-and-sidekick pair that needs almost no sewing. Cruella wears a fitted black dress, a white faux-fur coat, red gloves, red heels and big costume jewelry, with a half-black, half-white wig, sharp liner and red lipstick. The Dalmatian wears white pants and a white sweatshirt covered in removable black felt spots, white sneakers, floppy ears and a red collar, with a black nose and a few whisker marks. I scatter the spots in uneven sizes; perfectly even circles look like polka dots. A spotted bag or red leash connects them, kept playful. The pair looks most finished when the collar matches her gloves, lipstick and shoes.
18. Maleficent And Aurora Couple Costume

Maleficent and Aurora are dark fantasy against soft pink. Maleficent wears a floor-length black gown, a structured purple cape, black boots and a horned headpiece, with sculpted brows, plum shadow and red lipstick, and a decorative raven on a light foam or cardboard staff. Aurora wears a flowing pink gown, a gold crown, a fine necklace and matching flats, with long blonde curls and rosy makeup, carrying a single rose. Avoid masks and pointed pieces in crowded rooms. If Maleficent will be in a car, she should put the horns on at the venue; they rarely clear a car roof. A little purple in Aurora's jewelry quietly links the two.
19. Robin Hood And Maid Marian Couple Costume

Robin Hood and Maid Marian bring forest colors and medieval detail, which makes them cozy for an autumn evening. Robin wears olive leggings, a belted green tunic, a brown undershirt, a feathered cap and soft brown boots, with a reddish-brown fox-ear headband, light nose makeup and a foam coin pouch instead of archery gear. Marian wears a lavender medieval gown, a flowing veil, a fine gold crown and purple flats, with fox ears in the same reddish shade and a long braid or loose waves. A basket of artificial flowers or gold-painted tokens is her prop. The matching ears tell people these are the animated pair, so buy both headbands together to get the same color.
20. Simba And Nala Couple Costume

Simba and Nala are a comfortable pair in tan and gold. Both wear tan jumpsuits, matching lounge sets or neutral tops with fitted pants and soft brown shoes. Simba adds a reddish-brown faux-fur mane, round lion ears and a tufted tail fixed at the waist. Nala adds pale gold ears, a cream chest panel and a slim tail. Bronze shadow, a black nose and painted whiskers go on both faces. The mane is the warm part, so I attach it to a hood or headband he can take off indoors. A leaf crown or plush friend is enough of a prop, and different mane shapes tell the characters apart without any gendered styling.
21. Lady And Tramp Couple Costume

Lady and the Tramp mix vintage charm with simple animal details. Lady wears a rust-brown dress or sweater set, cream tights, brown flats, long floppy ears and a turquoise collar with a gold tag, with smooth auburn curls, a brown nose and light whiskers. Tramp wears gray trousers, a charcoal shirt, a gray vest, darker lace-up shoes and shaggy gray ears, with tousled hair. A plate of craft-store spaghetti is the obvious prop, though an empty decorative plate is easier to carry all night. Turquoise on both outfits makes the link. Long floppy ears tend to slide forward over the face, so I pin the band at both sides.
22. Pongo And Perdita Couple Costume

Pongo and Perdita are about the simplest couple on this list. Each person starts with white pants and a white top, then adds uneven black felt spots with removable fabric tape, floppy ears, white gloves, spotted tails and white or black sneakers. Pongo wears a red collar and Perdita a blue one. A black nose, soft whiskers and a few spots at the temples finish the faces. Fabric tape lets go on stretchy knits after a few hours, so if your tops are jersey, I'd add a stitch at the center of each big spot. A puppy plush and a dog-bone sign are the props, and varying spot placement keeps you from looking identical.
23. Woody And Bo Peep Couple Costume

Woody and Bo Peep bring western and pastel together. Woody wears blue jeans, a yellow checked shirt, a cow-print vest, a red neckerchief, a brown belt, a cowboy hat and brown boots, with a coiled rope or a foam sheriff badge. Bo Peep wears pale blue pants under a pink-and-blue skirt overlay, a fitted blue top, a pink cape, a bonnet and ankle boots, with a blonde side braid and rosy makeup. Her staff should be foam tubing over a light dowel rather than anything rigid. My favorite small trick here is a strip of pink ribbon on Woody's hat band, which connects the pair without changing his character at all.
24. Buzz Lightyear And Jessie Couple Costume

Buzz and Jessie are strong color blocking, which suits photos. Buzz wears a white jumpsuit, or white pants and jacket, with green, purple and red fabric panels, white sneakers, a purple hood, soft gloves and light fabric wings close to the back. Jessie wears blue jeans, a white western shirt with yellow panels, cow-print cuffs, a red braided wig, a red cowboy hat and brown boots, with a few drawn freckles. A foam space badge and a soft lasso are easy props. A touch of green in Jessie's accessories helps the two read as a pair. In a packed room, Buzz should leave the wings off; he'll still be obvious.
25. Mr. And Mrs. Incredible Couple Costume

Mr. and Mrs. Incredible are matching suits, which is the easiest kind of coordination. Each wears a red long-sleeve top with fitted red pants or a full jumpsuit, black briefs or shorts at the waist, black gloves and knee-high black boots, with a felt yellow-and-black emblem on the chest. One adds a short blond wig, the other a smooth auburn bob, and both wear black eye masks. Masks with an elastic strap tend to dig in above the ears, so I swap the elastic for a wider band or a soft ribbon tied at the back. Their look is streamlined, so leave capes in the bag. Stretch fabric and flat boots handle dancing or a costume contest.
26. Wall-E And Eve Couple Costume

Wall-E and Eve are a clever DIY pair with simple geometry. Wall-E wears brown pants, a boxy yellow vest painted with gray mechanical panels, brown boots and padded gray gloves, plus a yellow cap with big binocular-style cardboard eyes, carrying a tiny artificial plant in a boot-shaped container. Eve wears a smooth white tunic over white leggings, white sneakers, long white gloves and a rounded white hood, with blue oval eye makeup or blue shapes fixed to the hood away from the eyes. Reflective fabric makes her blue chest circle. I paint cardboard pieces with a coat of white primer first, otherwise the brown shows through the yellow. The shared plant ties the two robots together.
27. Carl And Ellie Couple Costume

Carl and Ellie are the sentimental choice, and almost all of it comes from thrift racks. Carl wears high-waisted brown trousers, a white shirt, a green cardigan, a bow tie, suspenders, square glasses and black shoes, with temporary gray hair color or a short white wig and a light cane with foam tennis balls. Ellie wears a pale blue dress, a floral cardigan, flats, round glasses and a gray bob wig. Temporary gray spray rubs off on pillows and collars, so I'd only use it with a dark shirt collar or a towel on the car headrest. Share a short bunch of balloons tied to a small cardboard house, and add handmade adventure badges.
28. Mike And Celia Couple Costume

Mike and Celia live in bright green and purple. Mike wears a lime green bodysuit or sweatshirt and pants, green sneakers and a padded round vest with one large fabric eye, plus small foam horns on a green cap and a little green makeup at the forehead. Celia wears a shimmering purple dress over matching leggings, blue-green shoe covers and a purple wig with stuffed fabric tube curls standing in for snakes. The tubes need a wire inside to hold a curl, and I bend the wire ends back so nothing pokes through. Lavender makeup and a single eye motif on a headband keep her face her own. Employee badges or clipboards are the props.
29. Sulley And Boo Couple Costume

Sulley and Boo are the pair I suggest when only one of you likes to craft. Sulley wears a turquoise faux-fur hoodie or fleece jumpsuit with removable purple felt spots, curved foam horns, a matching tail, turquoise gloves and soft blue sneakers, with light blue makeup around the eyes. Boo's outfit is an oversized pink T-shirt or tunic, purple leggings, white socks, white sneakers and two high pigtails. That's it. A fleece jumpsuit gets very warm indoors, so Sulley should have a T-shirt underneath and be ready to unzip. A small clipboard, toy door or hard hat makes an optional shared prop.
30. Joy And Sadness Couple Costume

Joy and Sadness come together at the last minute because they're mostly color. Joy wears a sleeveless yellow dress with blue starbursts, bright flats and a short blue wig styled upward, with gold shadow and pink cheeks. Sadness wears blue trousers, a pale blue turtleneck, an oversized knit sweater, navy flats and large round glasses, with a chin-length blue wig. Two blue wigs rarely match out of the bag; I'd buy them together or accept that one will be a shade off. Each carries a clear ball in their emotion's color. Opposite body language does half the work in photos, and swapping the roles changes nothing.
31. Ember And Wade Couple Costume

Ember and Wade play fire against water through sheer layers. Ember wears a fitted orange dress or jumpsuit with sheer red and yellow panels, metallic orange boots and flame earrings, with red-orange hair styled up using washable color or a sculpted wig, plus copper makeup. Wade wears a pale blue outfit with flowing translucent fabric, blue gloves, clear rain boots and a rounded blue hood or wig, with shimmering blue makeup rather than full face paint. Clear bags of red and blue tissue paper are the props. Organza and chiffon fray badly at cut edges, so I seal them with a thin line of fray stop or a lighter-touch hem. Light layers keep both from overheating.
32. Judy Hopps And Nick Wilde Couple Costume

Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are two uniforms with animal accessories. Judy wears navy trousers, a fitted blue shirt, a dark vest, a utility belt, gray gloves and black combat boots, with tall gray rabbit ears, a cotton tail, gray eye makeup and a pink nose. Nick wears olive trousers, a green patterned shirt, a striped tie, a rust cardigan and brown loafers, with orange fox ears, a soft tail, light nose makeup and reddish hair or a short wig. Tall rabbit ears flop unless they have wire or a stiff interfacing inside, and I'd check that before buying. Plastic badges, notebooks or a carrot pen are the props.
33. Kuzco And Yzma Couple Costume

Kuzco and Yzma suit a couple who likes hamming it up. Kuzco wears a red poncho-style tunic with yellow trim, black pants, gold sandals, large round earrings and a tall red-and-yellow crown, with dark hair styled up and sharp brows. Yzma wears a long black or purple dress, a feathered purple collar, a tall headpiece, long gloves and black heeled boots, with a high purple wig or slicked-back hair, lavender shadow and heavy lashes. Both have tall headpieces, so check the ceiling height of any doorway you'll pass under. A small plastic vial and a toy llama reference the story safely, and matching gold accessories connect the two.
34. Kim Possible And Ron Stoppable Couple Costume

Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable are a practical DIY pair in cargo clothes. Kim wears olive cargo pants, a fitted black long-sleeve crop top over a camisole, gray gloves, a utility belt and black combat boots, with a long auburn wig flipped at the ends. Ron wears beige cargo pants, a black shirt, a charcoal overshirt, sneakers and a shaggy blond wig, with a brown belt pouch holding a small mole-rat plush. Painted cardboard communication devices are the shared props. I'd stitch Ron's plush into the pouch, since a loose toy gets lost by the end of the night. Stretch-waist cargo pants and light boots keep both comfortable.
35. Mary Poppins And Bert Couple Costume

Mary Poppins and Bert are vintage tailoring and very family-friendly. Mary wears a white high-neck blouse, a long navy skirt, a fitted navy coat, a red bow tie, black ankle boots and a small flower-trimmed hat, with a tidy bun and red lipstick, carrying a carpet-style bag and a closed umbrella. Bert wears charcoal trousers, a striped shirt, a colorful vest, a neck scarf, a flat cap and lace-up boots. For his chimney-sweep smudges, I use a gray eyeshadow on a sponge rather than face paint, because it stays soft and wipes off clean. A soft decorative sweep or light cane is his prop, and red repeated in her bow and his scarf links them.
36. Giselle And Robert Couple Costume

Giselle and Robert work because one is ornate and the other is deliberately ordinary. Giselle wears a full pale blue or white dress with puff sleeves, a fitted bodice, sparkly flats and a fine tiara, with long auburn curls, pink lipstick and luminous makeup. Robert wears a charcoal business suit, a pale shirt, a plain tie, black dress shoes and neat dark hair, with a briefcase. Giselle holds bright artificial flowers and has a small fabric bird on her shoulder. I tell the Robert half to resist adding anything costume-like; the joke depends on him looking like he came straight from the office.
37. Kermit And Miss Piggy Couple Costume

Kermit and Miss Piggy are green against pink, with plenty of comedy. Kermit wears a green suit, a green shirt, matching gloves, green sneakers and a pointed felt collar at the neckline, with a soft frog-eye headband and only a light green tint at the temples. Miss Piggy wears a sparkly pink or silver dress, long gloves, big costume jewelry, metallic heels and a pale pink pig-ear headband, with a long blonde wig in big waves, lavender shadow, false lashes and bright pink lipstick. Cut Kermit's collar points from stiff felt so they stay sharp all night. A microphone or jeweled clutch is her prop, and exaggerated poses carry the rest.
38. Han Solo And Princess Leia Couple Costume

Han Solo and Leia come together from simple separates. Han wears dark trousers with a red side stripe, an ivory shirt, a black utility vest, a wide brown belt and tall black boots, with tousled brown hair and a small spaceship accessory instead of anything weapon-like. Leia wears a long white mock-neck dress, a silver belt, white boots and her two side buns. Those buns are the costume; I build each one around a hair donut or a coiled braid, pinned in a cross pattern so it doesn't droop by midnight. Natural makeup suits both. A round robot-style bag is a handy prop, and the shared white, black and silver palette unifies the pair.
39. Wanda And Vision Couple Costume

Wanda and Vision in their retro comic colors make a bright superhero pair. Wanda wears a red bodysuit or fitted top with leggings, a pink cape, red gloves, tall red boots and a pointed red headpiece, with long auburn waves. Vision wears a green suit or jumpsuit with yellow boots, gloves, belt and cape, plus a soft yellow head covering and muted red face makeup applied evenly with skin-safe products. Red cream makeup over a whole face needs patch-testing on the inner arm a day ahead and a dusting of setting powder to stop transfer. A cardboard television frame or a black-and-white photo is the prop. Fasten capes above the elbows so both of you can move.
40. Jack Skellington And Sally Couple Costume

Jack Skellington and Sally are a spooky pair that stays friendly. Jack wears a black pinstripe suit, a white shirt, a bat-shaped bow tie, black gloves and black shoes, with a white bald cap or slicked-back light hair and clean black-and-white skull makeup. Sally wears a knee-length patchwork dress over pale blue tights, black ankle boots and long red yarn hair or a red wig, with blue face makeup, drawn stitch lines and soft purple shadow. White face paint cracks around the mouth after a few hours of talking, so set it with translucent powder and carry a small brush for touch-ups. A striped pumpkin bag suits Sally, and repeated stripes tie the pair together.
Surviving Dinner, a Car Ride and a Slow Dance in Costume
A date night costume has to do things a party costume doesn't. You'll sit in a car, sit at a table, probably eat, and stand very close to each other for photos. Each of those moments breaks a different piece of a costume.
Sitting down
Tails, tulle, capes and stuffed felt get crushed when you sit. I attach tails with a loop of elastic through the belt so they can be swung to the side, and I tell anyone in a full skirt to sweep it under them with one hand as they sit. Wings, horns and tall hats come off for the car and go back on at the door.
Eating and drinking
Long gloves come off at the table; there's no elegant way to eat in them. Lip colors in bright red or pink need a long-wear formula or a blot and reapply after the meal. White trousers, white gloves and a white faux-fur coat are the pieces most likely to pick up a stain, so whoever wears them should order carefully.
Standing close
Face paint, colored hair spray and glitter end up on the other person's shoulder after a hug. Setting powder over cream makeup, and hair color only on a wig, keep most of it in place. If one of you has a painted face and the other is wearing a pale shirt, I'd plan the photos before the slow dance.
Plan the Pair Around Where You're Going
Every pair here comes back to the same three things: recognition, comfort and a shared visual theme. Start with each character's signature colors, then add one or two memorable details like a wig, headpiece, cape, collar or prop. Matching sets aren't necessary. Thrifted clothes, felt, simple makeup and your own accessories turn ordinary pieces into a convincing costume. Keep shoes walkable, headwear secure and props light, especially for a busy party or an outdoor date. And pick characters that suit the two of you, because the couple who is comfortable all night always looks better than the one adjusting a mask.
