Loki gives a costume a lot to work with: armour, sharp tailoring, that green and gold palette and a grin that says he's up to something. For women there are dozens of versions to borrow from, from Sylvie's worn layers and broken crown to the TVA uniforms, President Loki's suit, the old comic outfit and full handmade armour. Most of them start in a thrift store with a jacket, some faux leather, a fitted dress or a cape, and a pair of boots you can stand in. In my experience the versions that read best keep the colours honest, add a horned headpiece and stop at one light prop. Below are thirty ways to wear the character, from close cosplay to a closet costume you can pull together on the night.

Horns That Stay Upright Past Midnight
Nearly every look below depends on the horns, and the horns are what fail first. A heavy pair on a thin plastic headband tips forward, presses on the skin behind your ears and gives you a headache within an hour. Here's how I make a pair that lasts the night.
- Cut each horn from EVA foam, not thin craft foam. EVA holds a curve after you warm it with a heat gun or hair dryer and bend it by hand; craft foam just flops back.
- Make each horn from two mirrored halves glued edge to edge with contact cement. Hot glue sets hard and brittle, and it lets go in cold air outside.
- Seal the foam before painting. Several coats of thinned white glue or a flexible foam primer stop the gold paint soaking in and cracking when the foam flexes.
- Mount the horns on a wide metal or padded headband, and wrap the band in felt or fabric where it touches your head.
- For tall Loki horns, add a thin elastic that runs from one end of the band to the other behind your head, hidden under the hair. It stops the crown nodding forward.
Before you go out, wear the finished headpiece for twenty minutes around the house. If it pinches, move the padding. If it slides, add a couple of wig clips sewn to the inside of the band.
1. Classic Lady Loki Costume With Green Cape

I build this one from the inside out, starting with a fitted black jumpsuit or a long-sleeve bodysuit so everything else has something smooth to sit on. A dark green sleeveless tunic goes over it, and the gold armour comes from flexible craft foam placed at the shoulders, waist and chest. Leave gaps between the panels. Foam that runs edge to edge across the torso stops you bending to sit down. The green cape and the gold horned headband do most of the identifying, so put your effort there. Long black waves or a dark wig, green shadow with a sharp wing, knee-high boots, gold cuffs and a light orb-topped staff finish it, and you can still get through a long party in it.
2. Sylvie Loki Costume With Broken Horn Crown

Sylvie looks like she's been on the run for years, and that worn quality is the whole point. A slim black turtleneck goes under a faux-leather vest marked with muted green lines and gold that's been rubbed back a little with a dry brush of brown paint. Fitted black pants, fingerless gloves and flat combat boots keep it practical. The short blonde wig needs darker roots; I add those with a little brown eyeshadow pressed into the wefts rather than buying a second wig. The crown is the giveaway, with one horn snapped short, and EVA foam on a plain headband handles it well once it's sealed and painted. Keep the makeup plain: smudged brown liner and soft brows. A dark green hooded cape and a small gold time device clipped firmly at the waist round it out.
3. TVA Variant Loki Costume With Brown Jumpsuit

This is the variant you can make without any armour at all. Start with a loose brown utility jumpsuit and put orange VARIANT lettering across the back in fabric paint or iron-on vinyl; on a polyester boiler suit, test the iron temperature on an inside seam first, because synthetics glaze and pucker fast. A matching chest patch and a wide grey collar cut from foam turn it into the processing uniform, and that collar is what people spot. Dark waves or a shoulder-length black wig, fresh skin, defined brows and a thin line of green at the lashes are plenty. Black lace-up boots handle the walking. For a prop, carry a retro file folder, a numbered ticket or a small glowing cube, nothing that fills your hands.
4. TVA Agent Loki Costume With Shirt And Tie

If your party has a dress code or the office is involved, the TVA agent look is the safest Loki there is. A light brown button-down, tailored brown trousers and a dark brown utility jacket are the base, with a narrow brown tie, a retro organisation patch and a small orange timeline badge on top. I'd choose loafers for an office version and low ankle boots if you'll be on your feet for hours. Hair can go into loose waves, a low ponytail or a slightly messy bob. Keep the makeup neutral with a precise black line and a hint of green near the lashes. Carry a file folder and a handmade rectangular control device, and pin a small gold horn to the lapel so the agent still belongs to Loki.
5. President Loki Costume With Green Vest

President Loki comes almost entirely from a charity shop rail: white shirt, black trousers, a forest-green vest, a dark green tie with a gold clip and a long black coat. The campaign button reading Loki for President does the explaining. Rough up the dark waves a bit so it looks more chaos than boardroom. The horned crown can be light gold foam on a padded headband; I glue a strip of felt inside the band so it doesn't slide forward every time you look down. Smudged black liner, strong brows and a berry lip suit him. Wear lace-up boots or block-heel oxfords you've already broken in. A handful of campaign flyers or a small alligator plush wearing tiny gold horns gets a laugh from anyone who has watched the show.
6. Classic Comic Loki Costume With Yellow Cape

The old comic version is the one people name from across a room, mostly because of the yellow. Wear a full green bodysuit, or a fitted green top with matching leggings, then add high-waisted yellow shorts, a wide yellow belt, long yellow gloves and a sweeping yellow cape. Yellow boot covers over green or black shoes save buying specialty boots; elastic under the sole keeps them from riding up your shin. The helmet wants a fitted yellow base with gold horns pointing forward, which is the exaggerated silhouette from the vintage panels. Tuck your own hair under it or wear a sleek black bob wig. Strong brows, green liner and a matte berry lip suit the graphic style, and a light gold medallion or glowing green sphere is all the prop it needs.
7. God Of Stories Loki Costume With Timeline Cape

The God of Stories version is about the robes, so spend your time on drape rather than detail. Start with a long black or charcoal dress and layer a sleeveless emerald tunic over it, shaped at the waist with soft skirt panels falling below. Narrow metallic ribbons stitched at the shoulders and along the cape stand in for the branching timelines. A small gold horn crown keeps the head light; a tall helmet fights with all that fabric. Long loose waves, green-gold shadow and a little highlight on the cheekbones suit it. Hide flat black boots under the hem and add gold cuffs at both wrists. I'd carry a bundle of iridescent cords held loosely in the hands. They move as you walk and weigh almost nothing.
8. Ragnarok Loki Costume With Blue Cape

Ragnarok gives Loki colour and tailoring together. Choose a fitted black jumpsuit or leather-look pants under a structured teal and black tunic, then add asymmetrical blue panels, gold at the shoulders and thin green piping around the bodice. The rich blue cape draped over one shoulder is what makes this era read. I pin it at the shoulder with a heavy brooch and a hidden safety pin behind, because a one-shoulder cape drags itself off as soon as you raise your arm. A shoulder-length black wig with soft waves, smoky green eyes and sharp brows suit it. Swap the tall helmet for a low gold horn crown if you'll be in crowds. Knee-high boots, fingerless gloves and a small metallic disc on the wrist finish it.
9. Avengers Loki Costume With Gold Armor

This is the film Loki most people picture: black layers, gold armour and a long green cape. Begin with a black mock-neck top and fitted pants or a catsuit, then a long faux-leather coat with green lapels. The gold panels over the chest, shoulders and forearms should be flexible; on the forearms especially, rigid foam rubs a sore spot by the end of the night. A tall curved horn helmet gives the famous profile, but a headband version is kinder for a long event. Dark shoulder-length waves, pale base, cool contour, smoky eyes and precise brows suit it, with black knee-high boots underneath. Skip anything heavy for the sceptre. Foam and plastic in gold and blue, with rounded tips, keeps it light and party-safe.
10. Thor Movie Loki Costume With Long Green Coat

The first film's long green coat makes the shape on its own. Layer it over a black tunic and slim black trousers and run gold trim around the collar, cuffs, shoulders and front closure. On a thrifted coat I use a stretch gold braid, which follows the curve of a collar without rippling the way a stiff ribbon does. Soft foam shoulder pieces add structure and still let you lift your arms. Tall low-heeled riding boots and fitted black gloves keep it polished. Shoulder-length dark layers, soft contour, grey-green smoky shadow and a neutral lip keep it cool. Choose the helmet or a slimmer horn band depending on how much weight you want on your head, then add a green velvet sash, a gold belt and a small glowing cube.
11. Dark World Loki Costume With Black Layers

Dark World Loki is moodier, and it needs no special effects. A black tunic with an uneven hem goes over fitted trousers, followed by a dark green vest, a long black coat and a thin line of bronze-gold trim along the seams. Bronze reads older than bright gold, which suits this film. A narrow belt pulls in the waist and gives you somewhere to hang a small pouch or time device. Tall textured black boots carry the armoured feeling down the leg. Style a black wig into longer, slightly messy waves and smudge charcoal liner around the eyes, with a pale base and a muted mauve lip. Low gold horns and worn wrist cuffs keep the silhouette Loki while the colours stay quiet.
12. Prisoner Loki Costume With Green Tunic

The prisoner look is one of the more comfortable Loki costumes because it's mostly soft layers. Wear a dark green long-sleeve tunic with a high neck and fitted waist over slim black pants and tall flat boots, then add a long charcoal overcoat or sleeveless robe with a faint texture. Accessories stay small: narrow black cuffs and a gold brooch at the collar. Leave the dark waves a bit tousled and give the eyes a tired smudge of grey. Open decorative wrist rings hint at the restraints without actually tying your hands. I like the small green book tucked under one arm here. It gives you something to do with your hands that suits the character, and it fits in a bag when you need both.
13. Sakaar Loki Costume With Teal Tunic

Teal, blue and gold pull the Sakaar version away from all the black. A sleeveless teal tunic goes over a fitted black top and slim pants, trimmed with geometric gold, blue side panels and a structured black belt. Keep the cape short and over one shoulder; anything longer gets trodden on at a crowded party. Gold cuffs and a round metallic wrist device lean into the sci-fi setting. Glossy dark waves, metallic teal shadow and precise liner suit it, with a light highlight on the skin. Metallic teal shadow travels, so I set it with a clear brow gel pressed over the lid edge. Black knee-high or ankle boots with matching covers finish the outfit, and a small clear blue sphere or a bright invitation card is a light prop.
14. Time Slipping Loki Costume With Torn Suit

This one is meant to look like Loki is coming apart between moments in time. Start with a brown office shirt, a dark tie, tailored trousers and a fitted utility jacket. Distress one sleeve and shoulder with fabric chalk, a few loose stitches and uneven patches instead of cutting into the fabric, so the jacket goes back to normal afterwards. Narrow green and gold ribbons at the back and cuffs suggest time streaming off you. Messy windblown waves and makeup that's polished on one eye and smudged on the other carry the idea onto your face. Brown lace-ups handle the walking. A painted cardboard or foam timeline controller, a retro badge and paper time codes pinned inside the jacket reward anyone who looks closely.
15. Temporal Loom Loki Costume With Green Robes

The Temporal Loom version lives on movement, so pick a full-length dark green dress or robe you can walk and sit in. A sleeveless brown vest goes over the bodice, with gold bands at the waist, shoulders and wrists. Thin iridescent ribbons stitched under the cape fan out like branches of time when you turn. I tack each ribbon at two points, not one, so they hang in a spread instead of twisting into a single rope. A simple gold circlet with short curved horns is enough on the head; anything bigger fights the layers. Long dark waves and luminous green-gold eyes suit it. Flat black boots stay hidden under the skirt, and a glowing pendant with a few metallic cords in your hands finishes the idea.
16. Victorian Loki Costume With Green Tailcoat

Picture Loki stirring up trouble at a nineteenth-century exhibition and you have this one. The centrepiece is a fitted emerald tailcoat with black velvet lapels, gold buttons and lightly built-up shoulders. A thrifted tailcoat or riding jacket can often be made over with new buttons and velvet lapel facings. Wear it over a cream high-neck blouse with a long black skirt or tailored trousers, and add a gold brocade waistcoat, a pocket-watch chain and a tiny horn brooch. A small green top hat with curved gold horns stands in for the helmet. Put dark hair in a low curled updo, with matte skin, defined brows, green shadow and deep plum lips. Lace-up Victorian-style boots and a small journal of handwritten timeline notes finish the period feel.
17. Casual Loki Costume With Green Sweater

When comfort beats accuracy, this is the Loki I'd send someone out in. A fitted forest-green sweater, black faux-leather pants and a long black coat are the base. A slim gold belt, metallic cuffs and a small horned headband are what make everyday pieces read as the character. Black combat boots handle neighbourhood walks, campus parties or a long day on your feet. Hair can go into loose waves or a high ponytail, with green liner, gold in the inner corners and a soft berry lip. A file folder or a handmade variant badge on the coat adds a joke for fans. The sweater and pants go straight back into your wardrobe afterwards, which is the real appeal here.
18. Glam Loki Costume With Green Velvet Dress

Velvet makes the most of a glam Loki. Choose a long emerald dress with fitted sleeves, a defined waist and a modest slit so you can walk. Velvet crushes where you sit, so steam it from the back on the day rather than pressing it flat with an iron. A black cape lined in green goes over the shoulders, with a sculpted gold collar and matching cuffs. A slender horn crown adds height and still shows the hair, which can go into polished Hollywood waves or a low bun. Smoky green eyes, a sharp black line, glowing skin and deep berry lipstick suit a dressier party. Pointed ankle boots or block heels, a gold orb and a small serpent brooch at the waist finish it.
19. Loki Queen Costume With Gold Crown

For Loki on the throne, build around a floor-length black gown with an emerald overskirt or green centre panel, then add a wide metallic gold belt, sculpted shoulder pieces and a long green velvet cape. The tall horned crown is the focus, and it has to be balanced. I fix it to a padded headband and add a thin elastic that runs behind the head under the hair, because a tall crown tips forward the moment you nod. Sleek long black hair, gold-green lids, strong brows, sculpted cheekbones and a dark rose lip keep it regal. Flat or low black boots under the gown save your feet. A light orb-topped staff, wide gold cuffs and a green stone necklace finish the queen, as long as nothing on her is heavy.
20. Stealth Loki Costume With Hooded Cape

The stealth version drops the armour for soft black layers and a deep green hood. A black long-sleeve top, fitted utility pants and a dark faux-leather vest are the base, with a little gold piping at the shoulders and waist to keep the colours right. The knee-length hooded cape should have room for the horns: cut the hood a little deeper than a standard pattern, or the horns lift it off your head every time you turn. Hair goes into a low braid or tucked waves, with smoky charcoal eyes and a thin flash of emerald. Flat boots and fingerless gloves keep you quick on your feet. A gold belt pouch of fake timeline cards and a small glowing green cube are the only props it needs.
21. Frost Giant Loki Costume With Blue Makeup

Blue skin turns the usual Loki shape into the Frost Giant. A navy or black bodysuit goes under a dark blue sleeveless tunic and a textured midnight-blue cape, with silver-gold armour at the shoulders, waist and wrists. Use skin-safe blue body makeup on the face, neck and hands, and patch-test it on the inside of your wrist a day ahead. Draw the raised markings with darker blue shadow instead of anything gory. Blue on the hands gets on everything you touch, so set it well with translucent powder and expect to touch up. White or pale blue lenses are optional and only belong on eyes that have been properly fitted for them. A sleek black wig, a silver horn crown, dark blue lips, tall boots and a clear glowing cube finish the icy version.
22. Cute Loki Costume With Green Skater Dress

The skater dress is the Loki for dancing. Pick one with a fitted bodice and a flared knee-length skirt, then add black tights and gold trim at the neckline and hem. If the dress is a thin knit, I use fusible gold tape rather than sew-on braid, which can make light jersey sag. A short black cape with green lining keeps it Loki without swamping the dress. Choose a small gold horn headband over a helmet; foam horns keep it light enough to forget you're wearing it. Dark curls, a half-up style or a black bob wig all suit it. Soft green shimmer, a winged line, rosy cheeks and a berry lip keep the face friendly, with ankle boots, gold cuffs and a small orb-topped wand.
23. Plus Size Loki Costume With Corset Belt

A good fit at the base is what makes this plus-size Loki comfortable for a whole night. Start with a black knit jumpsuit, or a black top and leggings that move easily. A long emerald tunic with side slits goes over it, and a wide black corset-style belt with gold panels shapes the waist. I cut the shoulder armour and cuffs from craft foam and warm them with a hair dryer so they curve to the body, which is far more comfortable than flat panels strapped on. Attach the green cape at the shoulders, never the neck, so its weight doesn't pull on your throat. Dark waves, a padded horn headband, green-gold eyes and a berry lip finish the head. Wide-calf knee-high boots and a light glowing orb complete it.
24. Maternity Loki Costume With Green Empire Dress

An empire waist leaves room through the middle, which makes it the obvious base for a maternity Loki. Choose a long emerald knit dress with some stretch, then add a short black cape and soft gold shoulder accents. Tie a narrow gold sash just under the bust; it defines the shape and doesn't press on the bump. A light horned headband is safer than a helmet, since your balance can feel different later in pregnancy. Loose waves or a side braid, green shadow, a winged line and a soft berry lip suit it. Wear supportive flat boots and keep every hem off the floor so nothing catches underfoot. Gold cuffs and the small plush alligator in tiny horns give you a funny prop that's easy to hold.
25. Easy Loki Costume With Black Blazer

Halloween came up faster than your plans? A black blazer gets you to Loki in an evening. Wear it over a forest-green blouse with black pants or a knee-length black skirt, black tights if it's cold, and ankle boots or loafers. The gold horn headband tells people who you are, and a slim gold belt with metal cuffs keeps the green and gold palette clear. Your own hair in loose waves, a sleek ponytail or a faux bob is fine. Green liner, defined brows and berry lipstick are enough makeup. Pin a handmade variant badge to the lapel and carry an old-looking file folder. Everything here comes from your closet and a craft drawer.
26. No Sew Loki Costume With Green Tunic

No needle needed for this one. Wear a long green sleeveless top over a fitted black turtleneck and leggings, then cut gold adhesive vinyl into geometric strips and press them on as armour lines. Adhesive vinyl grips best on a smooth, tightly woven fabric; on a fuzzy knit it starts lifting at the corners, so a quick pass with a warm iron through a cloth helps it bond. Clip on a black or green cape with removable brooches. Foam shoulder panels and cuffs attach with hook-and-loop strips. A gold horn headband, knee-high boots and a wide belt finish the body, with soft waves, smoky green eyes and a precise line. A painted foam orb or time controller is the last piece, and everything comes apart again afterwards.
27. Punk Loki Costume With Plaid Pants

Loki's rebellious streak fits punk better than you'd expect. Green plaid trousers, a black fitted top and a cropped faux-leather jacket do the work. Decorate the jacket with removable gold studs, green ribbon and a horn-shaped pin; screw-back studs come out cleanly later, while prong studs leave holes in faux leather. A distressed green scarf makes a short cape and a gold chain belt adds movement. Try a black shag wig with green clip-in streaks, or your own hair in a high textured ponytail. Graphic black liner, emerald shadow, dark berry lips and tiny gold dots at the temples suit it. Platform combat boots, fingerless gloves, a decorated time-agency pass and a small green cube keep it clearly Loki, with no armour at all.
28. Retro Loki Costume With Green Mini Dress

Here's Loki done the 1960s way: a structured green mini dress, opaque black tights and knee-high white or black boots. Geometric gold trim at the collar, cuffs and hem echoes the armour in flat shapes, and a short yellow cape brings in the comic-book colours. A compact horned cap or padded gold headband is more in period than a big helmet. A flipped bob, your own or a chin-length wig, is the right hair for the decade. Graphic green shadow, a winged line and soft peach lipstick finish the face. I'd add gold cuffs and a round metallic bag painted like a time dial. It's a bright, unusual take, and the colour blocking shows up clearly in photos.
29. Masquerade Loki Costume With Green Gown

A masquerade Loki swaps the helmet for a mask. Wear a full-length dark green gown with a fitted bodice and flowing skirt, add a black velvet cape and stitch gold appliqué at the neckline and waist as stand-in armour. The mask is a light gold eye mask with two curved horns rising from it. Try it on before the night and walk around a room. A mask narrows your side vision, and horns on a mask pull it down onto the bridge of the nose unless the ties sit above the ears. A braided updo with loose curls at the face, luminous skin, emerald and gold shadow and deep rose lips suit it. Block heels or dressy flat boots, gold gloves, a serpent brooch and a small orb on a chain finish it.
30. Celestial Loki Costume With Starry Cape

To end on something different, here's a celestial Loki. Begin with a black maxi dress or wide-leg jumpsuit scattered with small gold stars, then an emerald fitted vest and a floor-length cape lined in green, blue and gold constellations. A slender horn crown wrapped in tiny battery lights makes the glow. Tuck the battery pack into the hair at the back of the head and tape the switch where you can find it by touch. Long waves threaded with gold cord, shimmery green shadow, gold liner, highlighted cheekbones and berry lips suit the theme. Wear platform boots or block heels under the long fabric. An iridescent orb and metallic ribbons at the wrists trail behind like branching timelines whenever you move.
Gold Trim That Doesn't Crack or Peel
Loki's gold is everywhere, on armour, cuffs, collars and hems, and cheap gold shows its faults fast. On foam, metallic acrylic over a flexible primer bends with the piece, while spray paint on bare foam tends to crackle at the first bend. On fabric, I use one of three things depending on the base. Stretch metallic braid follows curves on coats and collars. Iron-on metallic vinyl suits flat, smooth panels, and it's the right call when you can't sew. Fabric paint suits knits that need to stretch, because both braid and vinyl fight the stretch.
Gold on green also changes a lot under different light. A bright yellow-gold that looks right at home can read brassy in a dim room, so if you're mixing pieces from different sources, hold them together near a window and again under a lamp before you glue anything down.
Wigs for Loki if You Don't Want to Dye
Most of these looks call for long dark hair, and a wig is the quickest route if yours is short, light or simply staying the colour it is. A plain black synthetic wig from a party shop can look flat and shiny. I tone down the shine with a light dusting of dry shampoo, then brush it through. Cheap wigs also shed at the parting, so give it a firm brush outdoors before the night rather than on someone's sofa.
- Choose a heat-resistant synthetic fibre if you plan to curl it. Standard synthetic fibre frizzes or melts near a hot curling tongue.
- Pin a wig cap down with bobby pins in an X before the wig goes on, so the horn headband has something solid to grip.
- For Sylvie, buy the blonde wig a shade darker than you think and add roots with brown eyeshadow on a brush, worked into the base of the wefts.
- Keep a small comb and a few spare pins in a pocket. Capes snag hair at the back, and you'll want to tidy it halfway through the evening.
The Loki I'd Sew First
If I had one evening, I'd make the horned headpiece first and build the rest from clothes I already owned. A good Loki gets the green and gold right and is comfortable for hours, whether that's the armour, Sylvie's broken crown, the brown variant jumpsuit, a gown or a plain blazer. Craft foam, adhesive vinyl, a thrifted coat and some costume jewellery go a long way before you need a custom build. Every version above adapts for plus-size, maternity, glam, casual or no-sew dressing. Choose your Loki, test the headpiece in a mirror while you nod and turn, and wear it with glorious purpose.
