The cosplayer Xiaorou SeeU is known for transformations where the wig, the makeup and the pose all land at once, and that is what these thirty looks borrow from. I've taken characters she has portrayed and worked out how I'd rebuild each one for a convention, a photoshoot or Halloween. Every look starts from wearable clothing, then adds the character's hair, shoes you can actually stand in, makeup and a prop that won't worry anyone at the door. You can buy a full set, piece it together from thrifted clothes, or sew only the details that matter. If you'll be on your feet all day, keep the fabric breathable, pin the wig properly and keep every accessory light.

Wig Work Comes Before the Costume
On almost every look below, the wig is what makes the character read from across a room, so I buy and style it before spending on anything else. An inexpensive wig is fine as a base, but check that the fibre is heat-resistant if you'll need to curl or flatten it. Ordinary synthetic fibre melts under a flat iron, and once it frizzes it doesn't come back.
Long Tails and Heavy Braids
- For twin tails, use a short base wig with clip-on ponytails. Long fibre sewn into one cap tangles quickly and drags the whole wig backwards.
- Sew extra combs or wig clips at the nape and temples for heavy braids like Jinx's or Mitsuri's. The weight sits at the back, so that's where the grip needs to be.
- Brush synthetic fibre from the ends upward with a wide-tooth comb and a little detangling spray. Raking from the root is what makes a wig shed.
Taking the Shine Off
New wigs often look plasticky under a camera flash. A light dusting of dry shampoo, brushed through and shaken out, knocks the shine down. Braid your own hair flat, put on a wig cap, then pin the wig through the cap at four points so it can't rotate when you turn your head.
1. Jinx Cosplay With Blue Braids

Those two long blue braids do most of the work here, so I spend my effort on them first. A full-length braid made from wig fibre gets heavy fast and drags the cap backwards, which is why I braid lightweight extensions onto a shorter base wig and anchor them with clips at the nape. Underneath, a fitted black crop top over a striped or paneled purple base, high-waisted shorts, patterned tights, fingerless gloves and lace-up boots carry the outfit. Cool-toned foundation, defined brows, pink shadow and a playful liner shape suit her. Her body markings can be skin-safe makeup or printed mesh sleeves, and the sleeves are far less work to take off at midnight. Skip any weapon, carry a blue plush or a small mechanical-style pouch, and lean into her restless poses.
2. Powder Cosplay With Blue Pigtails

Powder is the gentler sister look, and she's kinder to beginners because shorter pigtails don't fight you all day. Wear a faded rust-red shirt under a cropped blue vest with loose striped pants or brown trousers, soft fabric wrist bands and weathered brown ankle boots. Pick a medium-blue wig with a thick fringe and side pieces, then make the two braids slightly uneven on purpose, since perfect symmetry looks wrong on her. Freckles, flushed cheeks and wide blue-gray eyes keep the makeup young. I distress the clothes with watered-down washable fabric paint dragged on with a dry brush, testing on a seam allowance first, because it's hard to undo. A handmade gear trinket or a fabric toy beats anything sharp, and tucked shoulders sell her in photos.
3. Rebecca Cosplay With Green Pigtails

Rebecca is all about proportion: an oversized jacket over a small, tight base. I look for a black jacket at least two sizes up and add the turquoise and red accents with fabric paint or tape, then wear it over a high-neck bodysuit or a fitted top and shorts with opaque tights. Mint-green wigs vary a lot in shade, so hold one against the jacket accents before you commit. Style it into high pigtails with a straight fringe and colourful ties. Her face needs dramatic lower lashes, pink blush and bright green eye makeup. Platform sneakers give the chunky footwear without the ankle risk of a tall boot, and a foam wrist device plus graphic clips finish her. With Rebecca, a cheeky stance matters more than exact accuracy.
4. Nahida Cosplay With White And Green Dress

Nahida's costume is light and small-scaled, so the real danger is overloading it. Start with a white sleeveless dress with green panels, gold trim and leaf decorations, and wear fitted white shorts underneath. Green-and-gold wrist pieces, floral ankle details and flat white shoes or flexible sandals cover the rest. Her silver-white wig with green tips is the piece I'd buy rather than dye yourself; pale fibre takes colour unevenly and the tips end up blotchy. Keep the makeup luminous with pale green shadow, thin brown liner, peach blush and a small leaf motif near one eye. A faux vine or a little green lantern is plenty to hold, and foam or fabric ornaments keep the wig from tipping sideways. Gentle hand positions suit her calm character.
5. Ganyu Cosplay With Blue Ombre Wig

Ganyu reads through cool blues and those small dark horns, so I make sure the horns sit right before worrying about anything else. Glue them to a headband that matches the wig, then slide the band under the top layer of fibre so it disappears. The wig itself should fade from medium to pale blue with soft waves. For the outfit, wear a fitted black-and-white bodice with blue panels and gold edging over opaque leggings or a short lined skirt, with detached sleeves, red knot details and low-heeled navy boots. Rosy cheeks, cool pink shadow and fine red liner at the outer corners give her soft expression. A silk flower or blue orb is enough to hold, and lightweight fabric keeps the skirt moving as you walk.
6. Seraphine Cosplay With Pink Glitter Outfit

Seraphine is a pop-star look, and glitter is both the point and the problem. It migrates onto everything you touch, so I cover the boots with removable glitter fabric instead of loose glitter and keep face gems to one area. Start with a fitted blue-and-pink top, iridescent shorts or a layered mini skirt, sheer star-patterned tights, metallic arm pieces and comfortable platform ankle boots. A long wavy wig blending pastel pink, lavender and blue gives her dreamy hair. Sparkling eyes, pink gloss and a glowing cheek highlight cover the makeup. A lightweight microphone is the easiest prop, and a small translucent shoulder bag holds your essentials. Make any large decorative piece from flexible foam so you can still lift your arms.
7. Star Guardian Ahri Cosplay With Pink Tails

The tails make or break this version of Ahri, and they're also the first thing to fail. I build them from lightweight foam or stuffed fabric and mount them on a wide belt worn under the skirt, never on a thin waistband that rolls over. Wear a white fitted bodice with red, pink and gold panels over a layered skirt and opaque white tights, with elbow gloves and white boots on stable heels. A pale blonde wig in long waves takes fox-ear clips near the crown. Pink shadow, winged liner and a small heart on the cheek do the face. Carry a star orb or crystal pendant. Walk the stairs at home in the full harness before the event, because stairs and doorways are where tails snag.
8. K/DA Ahri Cosplay With White Crop Top

K/DA Ahri is the sleeker, modern take, and she's much easier to manage in a crowd. Pair a fitted white crop top with high-waisted shorts, a structured black harness belt and thigh-high stockings over opaque dance tights, plus gold details and supportive black ankle boots. Pin the fox ears with hidden clips or clear elastic under a long blonde wig in soft waves. Sharp black liner, champagne shimmer and rose lipstick hold up under indoor lighting. I'd make one or three translucent tails rather than the full set; a fan of nine tails in a packed aisle gets stepped on. A metallic microphone or a small mirrored clutch is the prop, and strong posture does the rest.
9. Shinobu Kocho Cosplay With Butterfly Haori

Shinobu's haori carries the whole costume, so that's where the budget goes. A printed lightweight haori with the butterfly-wing pattern and teal-to-pink edge moves and breathes better than a heavy satin one. Underneath, wear a dark buttoned uniform with loose trousers or a pleated skirt, white leg wraps and sandals over dark socks. The black wig fading to purple gathers into a low bun with a butterfly ornament; I pin the bun to the wig cap through its base so it can't slide down your neck. Lavender shadow, fine liner and a calm smile suit her. A butterfly fan or small medicine pouch replaces the sword, and slightly tilted shoulders give her that composed look.
10. Nezuko Kamado Cosplay With Pink Kimono

Nezuko is a good pick if you want something sweet that most anime fans know on sight. Wear a pink geometric-print kimono over a pale underlayer with a red-and-white obi, then a dark brown haori, white leg wraps, pink ties and flat sandals. Her long black wig with orange-brown tips should be waved loosely and clipped back from the face. The bamboo mouthpiece is the detail people look for, but nobody wants it on all day, so I make it from soft foam on a ribbon that unties in a second for eating and drinking. Rosy eye makeup and extended upper lashes suggest her pink eyes without contacts. A small woven bag holds your phone, and gentle crouching poses fit her.
11. Mitsuri Kanroji Cosplay With Braided Wig

Mitsuri's three thick pink-to-green braids are heavy, and that weight is exactly what pulls a wig back off your hairline by the afternoon. I add extra combs inside the cap and use pre-braided extensions so you aren't braiding fibre for hours. The outfit is a dark uniform dress with a pleated skirt over a modest white fitted top, a white haori, lime-green socks and pink sandals or low boots. Green and pink shadow, rounded liner and a glossy pink lip match her cheerful face. A heart-shaped lunch box or a soft cat plush makes a fun prop. Open, enthusiastic poses suit her best.
12. Kanao Tsuyuri Cosplay With Butterfly Cape

Kanao is the quiet option, and I like her for first-timers because there are so few loose pieces. A dark fitted uniform top with a matching pleated skirt and opaque tights is the base, with a short white butterfly cape and low-heeled white boots. The black or very dark purple wig goes into a side ponytail with a green-and-pink butterfly clip; a clip-on ponytail is easier than pulling up the wig's own fibre. Lavender shadow, brown liner and natural lips keep her soft. Hold a coin or a small butterfly accessory instead of a weapon. Stand still, keep the expression subtle, and full-body photos will show off the detail.
13. Zenitsu Agatsuma Cosplay With Yellow Haori

Zenitsu suits almost any body, which is why I suggest him so often. A black buttoned uniform with loose trousers takes the signature yellow-orange haori with small white triangles, plus yellow leg wraps and sandals over dark socks. If you can't find the printed fabric, white triangles of fusible fabric ironed onto yellow cotton look right from a distance; I stitch around them too, because fusing alone lifts after a few wears. A short golden wig with blunt, uneven layers gives his silhouette. Warm orange shadow and a worried expression are pure Zenitsu. Carry a sparrow plush or a lightning-shaped fan, and don't be shy about the comedic poses.
14. Kanna Kamui Cosplay With Purple Dress

Kanna is small, pastel and easy to wear all day. A purple cape-style dress with a white collar, pink bow and scalloped hem goes with white tights and brown or burgundy Mary Janes. Style a pale lavender wig long and straight with blunt bangs, and attach the curved horns to a hidden headband. Make the horns in foam, never resin, because anything heavy on a headband slides forward and gives you a headache within the hour. Soft pink shadow, rounded liner and blush placed high on the cheeks give her animated look. A little school bag or dragon plush is enough. Puffed cheeks and tidy hands carry her personality.
15. Marnie Cosplay With Pink Punk Dress

Marnie is one of the easiest looks here to build from real clothes. A sleeveless pink mini dress with black triangle details, black shorts underneath, a cropped black moto jacket, ankle boots and silver studs make up almost all of it. If you can't find the dress, paint the triangles on a plain pink one with fabric paint and heat-set it with an iron so it survives a wash. Her dark wig needs blunt bangs and two pointed side pieces; on heat-safe fibre I set the points with a flat iron on low and a little hairspray. Gray and mauve shadow with muted pink lipstick keep her cool. Add a black choker and a small red-and-white ball accessory, and keep the pose reserved.
16. Jigglypuff Gijinka Cosplay With Pink Dress

A humanized Jigglypuff brings a creature character into the list without a full mascot suit. Wear a bubblegum-pink skater dress with puff sleeves over a white petticoat, with white tights, pink sneakers or Mary Janes and a round pastel bag. The short pink wig needs that big curl above the forehead; on a heat-safe wig I set it around a foam roller with hot water and let it dry overnight. Rounded ears go on a padded headband with blue inner details. Oversized blue eyes, pink blush and tiny stars give the cartoon finish. A light microphone nods to her singing and gives your hands a job. Keep the shoes flat if you're walking far.
17. Rem Cosplay With Blue Maid Dress

Rem's maid uniform is a safe convention choice because the hair and the dress read together. A black-and-white maid dress with blue trim, puff sleeves, a fitted waist and a layered skirt goes with opaque white tights and low-heeled black shoes. The short powder-blue wig has a side fringe over one eye; I trim that fringe a little shorter than it looks in the art so you can still see where you're walking. Add the floral headband and ribbon clips. Cool pink shadow and soft liner keep her gentle. A serving tray with faux pastries beats any combat prop, and snapping the apron on keeps it straight all day.
18. Asuka Langley Cosplay With Red Plug Suit

Asuka's plug suit looks simple and is unforgiving. A red full-coverage stretch jumpsuit with printed or appliquéd black, green and white panels gives you the silhouette without rigid layers. Foam-backed appliqués add dimension, but I attach them with a flexible fabric glue so they bend at the knees and elbows instead of cracking. Choose red or white ankle boots with a low platform rather than narrow heels. The long copper-orange wig should be straight with curtain bangs and red interface clips above the ears. Warm brown liner, peach blush and a red-pink lip suit her. A compact headset or an ID card is the prop, and hands on hips is her pose.
19. Mash Kyrielight Cosplay With Purple Armor

Mash pairs a fitted black base with purple armour, and the armour is where planning pays off. Wear a high-neck bodysuit or a long-sleeved top and shorts over opaque tights, then add foam chest panels, a waist piece, purple gauntlets and knee-high boot covers. I seal painted foam with several coats of flexible primer before the colour goes on; skip that and the paint cracks and rubs off onto the bodysuit. Try sitting down in the waist armour at home, and if it digs in, trim the bottom edge. Her short lavender wig has choppy layers and a heavy fringe over one eye. Swap the giant shield for a shield-shaped bag, and hold a guarded stance.
20. Misaka Mikoto Cosplay With School Uniform

Want a first cosplay you can mostly pull from a closet? Misaka Mikoto is the one. A beige sweater vest over a white short-sleeved blouse, a gray pleated skirt with shorts underneath, white socks, brown loafers and a navy or gray school bag cover it. The short chestnut wig with natural layers takes a small metallic hair clip, and your own brown hair of a similar length can stand in if you'd rather skip the wig. Fresh makeup with brown liner and peach blush keeps her realistic. Her coin is the signature prop, but keep it in a pocket while walking, since a coin dropped in a crowd is gone. Casual poses suit her better than theatrical ones.
21. Asuna Yuuki Cosplay With Red And White Dress

Asuna's red-and-white knight look is refined and tidy from any angle. A white high-neck tunic dress with red panels, gold trim and a fitted waist goes over white shorts or leggings, with detached sleeves, white stockings and red-and-white knee-high boots. The trim is where store-bought versions fail; I go over it with a few hand stitches or fabric glue before the first wear, because it starts lifting at the corners. Her long chestnut wig is straight and smooth, with small braids pinned behind the head. Warm brown shadow and a natural pink lip finish her face. Skip the sword and carry a leather-look pouch or a small map. Walk calmly and let the tunic move.
22. Alice Zuberg Cosplay With Blue Armor Dress

Alice combines a floor-length royal blue dress with fantasy armour, and weight is the enemy. Choose a dress with a fitted bodice, high collar and full skirt, then add gold shoulder pieces, a shaped chest plate, gauntlets and boot covers. I cut her armour from thin EVA foam, which heat-shapes into curves and stays light; thick foam looks chunky on a slim frame. Supportive white or blue boots can hide under the hem. Her golden-blonde wig goes into one long braid with a blue ribbon. Champagne shadow and precise brown liner keep her regal. Hold a blue flower or a small book, keep your chin lifted, and control the skirt as you walk.
23. Cardcaptor Sakura Cosplay With Pink Dress

Cardcaptor Sakura suits anyone who loves bows and full skirts. A pink puff-sleeved dress with white trim and a soft petticoat for the flare goes with white gloves, knee socks and pink or red Mary Janes. Her short chestnut wig has curved side pieces and takes a bow or a winged headband. I make the big bow detachable with a brooch back, so the dress packs flat and you can take it off when you sit in a car. Coral shadow, pink blush and a glossy lip suit her. Carry decorative cards or a plush companion instead of a staff, and keep the poses playful, raised toes and all.
24. Hatsune Miku Senbonzakura Cosplay With Kimono Dress

The Senbonzakura Miku pairs a military-style jacket with kimono details and that vivid teal hair. A black fitted jacket with gold trim over a short pleated skirt or layered kimono-style bottom, patterned thigh-highs, black boots, white gloves and a red waist ribbon build the outfit. Twin tails this long need clip-on ponytails on a shorter base wig, held with strong clips; one wig with its own waist-length fibre tangles within hours. A small peaked cap or floral ornament can sit between the tails. Teal liner and a red lip tint work with softly powdered skin. A folding fan or a blossom parasol is the prop, and dramatic fan poses suit her in daylight.
25. Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai Cosplay

The Magical Mirai Miku is a concert look, with layers that swing every time you move. A black-and-turquoise sleeveless top with a fitted waist and digital-print accents goes over a pleated skirt, with detached sleeves, patterned tights and black knee-high boots trimmed in turquoise. The wig needs two long, full twin tails held with angular hairpieces. Aqua shadow, winged liner and tiny stars near the temples give her a stage face. I attach skirt embellishments with snaps so they come off for travel and for sitting down. A microphone or a translucent concert fan is easy to hold, and energetic dance poses fit her.
26. Luo Tianyi Cosplay With Blue And White Dress

Luo Tianyi is a good virtual-singer pick when you want a polished look with few accessories. Wear a white sleeveless dress or tunic with blue panels, a shaped collar and silver trim, plus detached sleeves, white thigh-high socks and blue ankle boots. The pale blue-gray bob with longer side sections takes her distinctive blue ornament, and a bob wig is forgiving because there's no length to tangle. Icy blue shadow, fine gray liner and a satin lip keep her cool. Metallic fabric and foam handle the technical decorations. I keep the skirt only lightly structured, since a stiff skirt fights you on every staircase. Symmetrical poses and small singing gestures finish her.
27. Kurumi Tokisaki Cosplay With Red Gothic Dress

Kurumi's drama comes from colour, lace and her mismatched eyes. Pick a crimson dress with black ruffles, a fitted corset-style waist, puff sleeves and a layered skirt, plus black tights and lace-up ankle boots on stable heels. The long black wig goes into uneven twin tails with red ribbons and curled ends. I suggest the mismatched eyes with red and gold shadow on one side rather than coloured contacts, which need proper fitting and aren't worth the risk for a single day. A clock-shaped purse or an antique-style pocket watch replaces the weapon. Soft petticoats add volume without weight, and a controlled smile keeps her theatrical but family-friendly.
28. Tsuyu Asui Cosplay With Green Bodysuit

Tsuyu's hero suit is sporty, and flexible athletic fabric keeps it comfortable. A full-coverage green jumpsuit, or a fitted top and leggings with black and yellow paneling, goes with beige gloves, wide wrist cuffs and green boot covers over supportive sneakers. Boot covers creep around sneakers unless something holds them down, so I sew a strip of elastic under the sole. Her long, straight dark green wig has a large bow-like section near the bottom. Wide black liner, green shadow and pink blush give her round anime eyes. Goggles or a frog crossbody bag replace complicated gear, and nothing long should hang where you could trip on it.
29. Himiko Toga Cosplay With Beige Cardigan

Toga's school clothes can be done without any graphic makeup. A beige cardigan over a white sailor-collar blouse with navy trim and a red scarf, a navy pleated skirt with shorts underneath, dark knee socks and brown loafers make the outfit. The sandy-blonde wig goes into two messy buns with loose pieces around the face. Messy still needs pinning, so I build each bun around a small hair donut and then tease bits loose. Peach shadow and visible lower lashes keep her playful. A yellow school bag or a plush replaces her usual gear. If you add a foam collar detail, keep it light and loose at the neck, and let tilted-head poses do the rest.
30. Rikka Takarada Cosplay With Purple Cardigan

Rikka closes the list because her outfit is close to everyday clothing, which makes her easy to wear for hours. An oversized purple cardigan over a white button-front shirt, a short black pleated skirt with safety shorts, dark socks and brown loafers are all you need. I let the cardigan hang a size or two big; tailoring it kills her slouchy shape. Her deep purple wig is shoulder length with straight layers and side-swept bangs. Plum shadow, brown liner and a relaxed lip keep the face natural. Wired headphones or a plain tote finish her, and crossed ankles with a subtle expression give the anime-to-real-life effect SeeU is admired for.
EVA Foam for Horns, Tails and Armour
Half of these characters have a horn, a tail, a crest or a piece of armour, and I make nearly all of them in foam. Thin EVA foam curves under a heat gun and holds the shape once it cools. Craft foam is thinner and cheaper, which makes it good for trim and small hair ornaments but too floppy for a chest plate or gauntlet.
- Seal before you paint. Foam is porous, and a few coats of flexible primer or thinned glue stop the paint from soaking in and cracking.
- Join foam to foam with contact cement. Hot glue sets fast, but it turns brittle in cold air and pops off when the piece flexes.
- Mount horns and ears on a headband in the wig's colour, then pull the top layer of fibre over the band to hide it.
- Hang tails from a wide belt worn under the skirt, never from the skirt's own waistband.
A Small Repair Kit for a Long Day in Costume
Something always comes loose. I pack a zip pouch with safety pins, a needle already threaded in black and another in white, clear elastic, double-sided fabric tape, bobby pins and wig pins, blotting papers, the same setting powder you used that morning, and a small tube of glue for foam. It takes up less room than a phone and covers most of what goes wrong between leaving home and the last photo of the day.
The Feature People Spot First
Every look here comes down to the same few things: a wig that's styled and anchored properly, a colour palette that matches the character, makeup you can wear all day, and a prop light enough to forget about. None of it needs professional equipment or a big budget. Start with the one feature people spot first, like Jinx's braids, Marnie's pink dress or Shinobu's butterfly haori, and build the rest from comfortable pieces that fit. Swap heavy armour for foam, carry a safe prop, and wear shoes you've already broken in. Then practise the character's posture in a mirror, because a simple costume worn with the right pose reads better than an accurate one worn stiffly.
