Minecraft is the friendliest game I know for a home costume build, because everything in it is a square. Cardboard, craft foam, felt and plain clothing do most of the work, and you never have to sculpt a curve. The list below runs from the two player characters through villagers, farm animals, Nether mobs and the newer additions to the game. Each idea gives you a clothing base, a head or hair option, makeup if you want your face showing, and a prop that's light enough to carry all day. You can keep any of them simple for a school day or push the foam work further for a convention. My one rule for all forty: if a box head goes on, it has to come off in under ten seconds.

A Box Head You Can Actually See Out Of
Half the ideas below offer a cube head, and that one piece decides whether you enjoy the day. I start with a box that's a little bigger than my head in every direction, about two finger widths of space at the sides. Too tight and it rubs your ears; too loose and it spins every time you turn.
- Cut a hard hat suspension or a simple foam ring to sit inside the box, so the weight rests on the crown of your head and not on your shoulders.
- Put the eye holes where your eyes really are, not where the character's eyes are drawn. Mark them while wearing the box, then paint the face around them.
- Back every opening with black mesh or speaker cloth. From outside it reads as a dark square, and from inside you can see surprisingly well.
- Cut a few small vents near the top. Warm air rises, and a sealed box fogs up glasses and gets stuffy quickly.
- Seal cardboard with a coat of watered-down glue before paint, so a little drizzle or a spilled drink doesn't turn it soft.
Even with all that, your side vision is gone in a box head. Have a friend walk with you through crowds and on stairs, and take it off whenever you're sitting or eating. If the event has a mask rule, the makeup version listed with most characters keeps the same look.
1. Minecraft Steve Cosplay With Pickaxe

Steve is the easiest win on this list, and the colours do nearly all of it. A bright turquoise short-sleeve shirt and straight purple or deep indigo pants are the whole base, with black or dark gray sneakers you can walk in. For the head you can keep short brown hair as it is, wear a blocky brown wig, or build a pixel head from a cardboard box. If you'd rather show your face, square patches of beige and brown makeup carry the look. I'd make the pickaxe from foam rather than cardboard, since cardboard handles crease at the first knock. A small crafting block bag or pixel-print backpack gives you somewhere for your phone.
2. Minecraft Alex Cosplay With Crafting Block

Alex reads from the hair first, so I spend my time there. A straight orange wig over one shoulder, with a blocky side section cut from stiff felt or light craft foam, is what people spot across a room. Under that, a pale green short-sleeve shirt, fitted brown pants and dark gray boots keep things simple. Soft peach makeup, squared brows and tiny green pixel accents near the eyes finish the face. Her crafting block can be a small cardboard box wrapped in printed pixel panels, and a foam utility belt holds miniature blocks or faux carrots. If you add flat foam rectangles to the sleeves and legs, stitch them at the top edge only so your knees and elbows still bend.
3. Minecraft Creeper Cosplay With Block Head

The Creeper is mostly a patchwork job, and it's a good one for using up green scraps. Start from a green sweatshirt and joggers, or a straight foam tunic over light pants, then scatter irregular squares of lime, forest and olive across it in felt, fabric paint or removable tape. The cube head needs big openings backed with mesh, because a closed box gets hot faster than people expect. If masks aren't allowed where you're going, green hair spray and a dark square face in skin-safe makeup do the job. Green sneakers or shoe covers keep the legs one colour. I'd carry a small grass block, and add slightly squared shoulder panels plus stiff leg covers to get that tall, upright Creeper shape.
4. Minecraft Enderman Cosplay With Grass Block

Height is the whole trick with the Enderman, and black clothing is very forgiving here. Fitted long sleeves, straight pants and elongated foam arm covers stretch the line. Only wear black platform sneakers if you can already walk in platforms; ordinary black boots are fine and far safer on stairs. The tall cube head with purple rectangular eyes is what makes it read, and black mesh behind the eye holes lets you see out while the face stays dark. An open-face version works too: slicked-back dark hair and vivid purple eye makeup drawn in straight, pixel-like lines. Carry a light grass block made from a covered cardboard cube. If you add purple LEDs at the shoulders, tape the wiring flat and keep the battery pack where you can reach it.
5. Minecraft Zombie Cosplay With Pixel Shirt

This Zombie keeps things family-friendly by using colour blocks instead of torn clothes or gore. The base is a turquoise shirt, dark blue pants and sturdy gray sneakers, with square patches in several blues and greens stitched on for the pixel texture. A light box head covered in green paper, with painted dark rectangular eyes and a straight mouth, is the full-mask route. For an open face, green face paint, squared blue eye shadow and sharp brows work, though green paint shows every fingerprint, so a light dusting of setting powder helps. A short dark green wig or temporary hair colour ties the face to the body. Boxy shoulder panels and straight pant overlays add depth without turning it into a full suit.
6. Minecraft Skeleton Cosplay With Bone Blocks

A Skeleton can scare small kids if it's too realistic, so I keep this one graphic. A light gray sweatsuit or fitted jumpsuit carries white and charcoal rectangular bone shapes, and foam strips form the ribs, arms and square knees. The cube skull head needs large black eye openings lined with breathable mesh. If you'd rather go open-face, white makeup with gray square shading and a short silver wig does it. Skip the bow entirely and carry a stack of light bone blocks or a gray cube, which saves arguments at any venue with a prop policy. White high-tops or gray boots keep it monochrome. Reflective silver tape along the edges is worth adding for anyone walking outside after dark.
7. Minecraft Farmer Villager Cosplay With Carrot Basket

The Farmer Villager is one of the most comfortable builds here, because it's basically a long tunic. Wear a long brown tunic over beige pants, add a tan apron and dark brown ankle boots, and top it with a wide straw hat. A short brown wig or neatly tucked hair keeps attention on the blocky shape. The villager nose is the detail that sells it; I make it from light foam and attach it with skin-safe adhesive, and I always test that adhesive on the inner wrist the day before. Carry a small basket of pixel carrots and potatoes. When you pose, cross your arms the way villagers stand in the game. Rectangular foam cuffs and a straight hem do the rest without any mask.
8. Minecraft Librarian Villager Cosplay With Book

For the Librarian, I'd cut the robe calf-length and no longer, since a floor-length hem catches on every stair and escalator. Layer a cream or tan robe under a white apron with a brown belt, then add straight beige pants, comfortable brown loafers and rectangular foam cuffs at the wrists. A simple brown wig or smooth hair goes under a small block-shaped cap. Square glasses, defined brows, rosy neutral makeup and a soft foam villager nose make the face. The oversized book is the prop: cardboard covers, coloured paper and light foam pages so it doesn't drag your arm down. A cube satchel holds your things, and red and gold squares around the collar break up all that neutral.
9. Minecraft Armorer Villager Cosplay With Iron Apron

The Armorer is workwear with silver patches, which makes it a good build for anyone who hates wearing makeup. Start with a dark brown tunic, charcoal pants and black work-style boots, then layer a gray apron with flat silver foam squares glued on as iron plates. Foam glued flat to fabric peels at the corners when the apron flexes, so I stitch a single tack through the centre of each square as well. Short brown hair or a compact blocky wig sits under a dark headband. Add rectangular brows, muted gray eye makeup and a light villager nose. Rather than tools that could pass for weapons, carry a foam iron block or a cube supply case. Weather the apron lightly with charcoal fabric paint and stop there.
10. Minecraft Wandering Trader Cosplay With Llama Bag

The Wandering Trader is all about that rich blue, so buy the navy and cyan fabric together in daylight to be sure they actually work as a pair. A long navy robe with cyan trim goes over dark pants and comfortable brown boots, with a matching hood or square blue head wrap. Leave room under the hood for a short brown wig or pinned hair. Warm face makeup, bold rectangular brows and a soft foam villager nose do the face, and gold and turquoise foam squares decorate the robe edges. A crossbody pouch full of tiny pixel blocks, emerald shapes and fabric swatches makes the trading easy to see. The little llama handbag is a cute nod to his animals without needing a second person. Keep the sleeves loose but not huge.
11. Minecraft Iron Golem Cosplay With Flower

The Iron Golem looks heavy but shouldn't be. I build it on a light gray jumpsuit with layered foam panels painted in off-white, stone gray and pale beige pixels, plus green vines across one shoulder and leg. The rectangular headpiece carries a long foam nose and red square eyes with clear mesh behind them. Foam armour needs a flexible sealer before paint, or the paint cracks the first time a panel bends. If you'd rather wear makeup, gray cream colour with squared shading and a short white wig is the alternative. Gray sneakers hide under blocky shoe covers. Carry a big red flower to show his gentle side, and split the panels at the elbows and knees so you can still sit down.
12. Minecraft Snow Golem Cosplay With Pumpkin Head

The Snow Golem starts as an all-white sweatsuit with white gloves and comfortable white sneakers. Soft gray felt squares along the torso and legs give it the snowy pixel shading. The pumpkin head is the main build: a removable cube with a carved-looking black face painted on, mesh inside the openings, and a slightly oversized shape so it reads as blocky. White shows dirt quickly, so if this is for an outdoor night, I'd plan to wash the sweatsuit straight after. Without the head, a short white wig, orange cap and orange-and-black pixel makeup work. Three big dark buttons cut from foam and a white packed-snow block finish it, and an orange scarf adds real warmth outside.
13. Minecraft Piglin Cosplay With Gold Belt

The Piglin reads through three colours: dusty pink, dark brown and bright gold. Wear a rose long-sleeve top and matching leggings under a brown faux-leather tunic, with black or brown boots in squared foam covers. Faux leather doesn't fray, so the tunic edges can stay raw, which saves a lot of hemming. A pink bob wig fits under a light pig-shaped cube head with upright ears and a rectangular snout. For an open face, pink makeup, dark squared eye shading and a soft foam nose. The broad belt and wrist cuffs are gold craft foam, and a gold cube or block pouch stands in for the treasure. A few beige pixels on the sleeves add texture.
14. Minecraft Warden Cosplay With Glowing Chest

The Warden is the most ambitious build in this middle stretch, and also the one people most often make too heavy. Start with a black jumpsuit and supportive black boots, then add broad shoulder panels and rectangular leg covers in dark teal, navy and aqua foam. The tall headpiece takes curved foam antenna shapes; leave the face open, because the Warden is blind in the game and you shouldn't be. A short navy wig and deep teal makeup can replace the helmet altogether. The glowing chest can be aqua fabric, reflective tape or battery lights behind a translucent panel. Carry a small sculk cube. Keep everything in light foam with flexible joints, or you'll be taking it off by lunchtime.
15. Minecraft Allay Cosplay With Music Block

The Allay is the soft option in a list full of boxes. A pale blue fitted top and leggings carry a short translucent blue overskirt, and the rectangular wings are iridescent fabric stretched over light frames. I'd make those frames from thin wire or plastic rod rather than cardboard, which bends after a few hours of brushing past people. White or blue sneakers get simple pixel-patterned spats. A chin-length aqua wig, icy blue makeup with white inner-eye highlights and square cheek accents give the colour balance, and a small blue headpiece with square corners is optional. The prop is a light note block. Put the wings on elastic straps so you can slip them off to sit or ride in a car.
16. Minecraft Axolotl Cosplay With Ruffled Gills

The Axolotl is a good pick for anyone who doesn't want armour at all. Start from a soft pink hoodie and joggers with pale square patches down the arms and legs. The gills are the signature: three layered felt pieces on each side of the hood in coral, rose and magenta. Felt gills droop if the hood is thin, so I back each one with a strip of stiff interfacing. A pink bob wig goes underneath, or natural hair in two low buns. Peach makeup, white eye accents and a rectangular smile keep the face sweet. The long flat tail is lightly stuffed fabric on snaps at the waist. Pink sneakers or slippers, plus a blue water-block handbag or small bucket prop, make the water theme obvious.
17. Minecraft Bee Cosplay With Pixel Wings

Stripes are the Bee, so get them level before you sew anything else. A yellow-and-brown striped sweater dress, tunic or matching set works with dark leggings and yellow sneakers in brown foam covers. The rectangular wings are translucent white fabric on thin frames, sitting close to the back so you can move. A short golden blond bob wig and square antennae on a padded headband top it off; padding matters, because a bare plastic headband digs in behind the ears after an hour. Yellow eye makeup, brown liner and small block cheek marks finish the face. Carry a light honey-block cube bag, and add a few flower appliqués at the cuffs. Small wings fit school days and group photos far better than big ones.
18. Minecraft Fox Cosplay With Berry Basket

The Fox gets its look from rust orange and crisp white, and the hard part is matching those two. Wear an orange hoodie and joggers with a white square chest panel and dark brown glove cuffs. An orange wig with a side-swept fringe sits under a headband with block-shaped fox ears. Warm orange makeup, a squared white muzzle and a small dark nose make the face; white makeup on the muzzle shows wear first, so carry a little to touch up. The lightly stuffed rectangular tail goes on sturdy snaps at the waistband. Brown boots or orange sneakers with dark pixel spats finish the feet. A cube basket of crafted sweet berries is the prop, and slightly sleepy eye makeup gives it the fox's personality.
19. Minecraft Wolf Cosplay With Red Collar

The Wolf adapts well across ages, which makes it a handy one for a family that wants to match. A heather gray sweatshirt and pants carry light and dark gray felt squares, with a white chest panel, gray gloves and sneakers in blocky covers. Wear a short silver wig under squared ears, or sew the ears straight onto a hood, which I prefer for kids because a hood doesn't slide off. Gray-and-white face makeup, a black rectangular nose and sharp brows give the animal features. The wide red collar is the strongest colour on the whole costume, so make it in soft fabric that won't rub the neck. Add a straight, lightly stuffed tail and a foam bone or grass cube.
20. Minecraft Cat Cosplay With Yarn Block

The Cat lets you pick your favourite in-game colouring: black, orange, white or gray. A hoodie and joggers in the base colour with contrasting rectangular patches is all the structure you need, plus matching sneakers, fingerless gloves and a long straight fabric tail. A short wig in the same colour goes under square ears on a wide headband. Clean eyeliner, a small pixel nose and block-shaped whiskers suit the game better than realistic cat makeup. The prop is a yarn block made from wrapped foam or coloured cardboard, and a slim collar with a square tag adds one more detail. Keep the tail above the knee; a long tail is the first thing to get stepped on in a queue.
21. Minecraft Pig Cosplay With Saddle Bag

The Pig is about as simple as this list gets, and a good beginner sewing project. A pink sweatshirt or boxy tunic, matching pants, gloves and sneakers make the base, with darker pink felt squares along the sides. Felt in two pinks can look the same under indoor lighting, so I hold the swatches together under a lamp before buying. A short rose wig pairs with block ears on a headband, and pink makeup plus a rectangular foam snout finish the face. For a full version, build a light cube head with wide mesh eye holes. A brown crossbody bag shaped like a small saddle is both useful and a fun nod to the game. Add a straight pink tail and a crafted carrot.
22. Minecraft Sheep Cosplay With Wool Cape

The Sheep needs fluff, but loose fibre sheds everywhere, so I build the wool from square fleece pieces instead. Fleece doesn't fray, which means you can cut those squares and stitch them down without finishing a single edge. Wear a white long-sleeve top, straight white pants and white sneakers with removable fabric panels, then add the fleece cape or sleeveless tunic on top. A white curly wig adds volume under small beige block ears. The makeup stays simple: pale base, soft gray eye squares, light beige nose. Gray gloves and ankle panels mark out the legs. Carry a wool block in white or any dyed colour. Make the cape detachable, because fleece gets warm indoors.
23. Minecraft Cow Cosplay With Milk Bucket

The Cow is a patch-placement puzzle, and I lay every patch out on the floor before stitching any of them. Start with a dark brown sweatshirt and pants, then add irregular beige and black rectangles. Brown boots or sneakers with foam hoof covers keep the colour running head to toe. A short dark brown wig goes under squared ears and small cream horns on a padded headband. Brown makeup at the temples, a light rectangular muzzle and a soft pink nose finish the face. The tail is straight fabric with a blocky tip. The milk bucket is light silver foam with a white panel inside, so nothing spills. Fabric patches instead of thick armour keep this cool enough for a long day.
24. Minecraft Chicken Cosplay With Egg Block

The Chicken looks best when the wings stay small. A white tunic, white leggings and yellow sneakers make the base, with soft rectangular white panels at the shoulders to suggest wings without adding width. A short white wig or a white hood covers the hair. The red foam comb on top and the red fabric wattle under the chin are what make it a chicken, and I'd sew the comb to the hood rather than glue it, since glue lets go if the hood gets damp. Yellow eye shadow, a rectangular orange foam beak and rosy square cheeks finish the face. Carry an oversized pixel egg in carved foam, add yellow glove cuffs, and keep the wing panels close to the arms.
25. Minecraft Frog Cosplay With Lily Pad Bag

The Frog comes in a few colour versions in the game, so pick lime or olive for the hoodie and joggers based on the one you like. Add green sneakers, soft gloves and a pale square belly panel. The raised cube eyes go on the hood or on a wide headband over a short green wig. Light foam is the only material I'd use for those eyes; anything heavier pulls the hood backwards. Green makeup, a straight mouth and light square highlights give the expression. Carry a round lily pad bag with pixelated edges or a cube water-block purse. Lightly padded rectangular hands and feet exaggerate the proportions, and a removable hood helps in warm rooms.
26. Minecraft Sniffer Cosplay With Ancient Seeds

The Sniffer stands out because almost nobody else will have built one. Begin with a dark red jumpsuit or sweatsuit and a large moss-green panel across the back, then add yellow and cream rectangular markings down the sides in felt or fabric paint. The broad foam headpiece carries a long blocky snout, with mesh eye openings for visibility. A long snout makes the head front-heavy, so I add a strap under the back of the head to stop it tipping forward. For an open face, a burgundy wig with green clips and square red-and-yellow makeup. Brown boots in red foam covers finish the feet. Carry a pouch of oversized seeds, and build the back panel from flexible foam.
27. Minecraft Camel Cosplay With Blue Saddle

The Camel works best soft rather than stiff. Wear a beige sweatshirt, tan pants and brown ankle boots with squared covers, then strap a lightly padded foam hump to your back with adjustable backpack straps. Straps are the right call here: you can take the hump off to sit, and it doesn't pull the sweatshirt out of shape. A caramel wig goes under a headband with long rectangular ears. Golden neutral makeup, strong square brows and a soft beige muzzle panel make the face. The bright blue saddle vest with red and gold pixel trim is the colour that pops. Carry a small foam cactus block, and keep the hump compact and centred so it doesn't swing when you walk.
28. Minecraft Llama Cosplay With Trader Blanket

The Llama is the trader's animal, and the blanket is what tells people that. Wear an ivory tunic over matching straight pants with white sneakers and soft hoof covers. A fluffy white wig sits under upright rectangular ears. A pale base, square brown eye accents and a small foam muzzle make the face. Drape a blue blanket across the shoulders, fasten it at the sides like a short cape, and edge it with red, gold and turquoise pixel borders; ribbon or bias tape in those colours is quicker than painting every square. A straight cream tail sits clear of the floor. Carry a cube supply bag or a small fabric hay block. Use breathable fleece panels instead of full-body plush, which gets very warm.
29. Minecraft Panda Cosplay With Bamboo Block

The Panda is mostly about where the black ends and the white begins. A white hoodie with black sleeves, black pants and black sneakers sets it up, plus a square white belly panel and rounded, block-inspired ears on the hood. A short black wig or tucked hair goes under the headpiece. White makeup around the centre of the face, black rectangular eye patches and a small dark nose give the markings. Black and white makeup side by side tends to smudge into gray at the edge, so I set each colour with powder before doing the next. The bamboo block is green foam tubes on a cardboard base. Black gloves with white squares cover the hands, and a removable pink tongue adds personality.
30. Minecraft Turtle Cosplay With Seagrass Bag

The Turtle is built around one wearable piece: the shell. Start with an olive long-sleeve shirt, matching pants and green sneakers, with lighter green squares at the sleeves and knees for shading. Build a shallow shell from EVA foam, paint it in several greens and hang it on padded backpack straps. EVA takes a slight curve under a heat gun, which lets the shell sit against your back instead of sticking out like a board. A short sea-green wig goes under a low-profile hood or headband with squared eye details. Green makeup, a pale mouth area and turquoise highlights finish the face. Carry a cube seagrass bag with felt leaves, and keep the shell narrow enough for doorways.
31. Minecraft Mooshroom Cosplay With Mushroom Hat

Red and white is what keeps the Mooshroom from looking like a plain brown cow. Wear a deep red sweatshirt and pants with cream rectangular patches, dark boots, brown gloves and a straight red tail with a square tip. A burgundy bob wig sits under a headband or cap with light red mushrooms dotted in white pixels. I'd keep those mushrooms small and stitch them through the cap, because big ones on a headband wobble with every step. Red makeup at the outer cheeks, a pale rectangular muzzle and a pink foam nose do the face, and one more mushroom can sit on a shoulder. The prop is a cube mushroom stew bowl made entirely from foam.
32. Minecraft Blaze Cosplay With Floating Rods

The Blaze gives you a glowing, fiery look with no heat at all. A mustard-yellow top, brown fitted pants and gold high-top sneakers are the base, with rectangular yellow and orange panels across the torso for a pixel flame. A short gold wig styled upward, yellow makeup, orange eye accents and square cheek highlights brighten the face. The floating rods are the build: light foam tubes hung around a belt and shoulder harness on clear supports. Clear fishing line holds them nicely but tangles in transport, so I pack the rods separately and attach them on arrival. Round every tube end. A small cube with battery lights finishes it, and the rods should come off for doorways and security lines.
33. Minecraft Ghast Cosplay With Tear Makeup

The Ghast is mostly white fabric, and the trick is keeping it light enough to move. Wear a boxy white tunic over white leggings and supportive white sneakers, then attach flat fabric streamers to the hem with squared ends, all above the ankle. A chin-length white wig frames gray rectangular eye makeup and pale blue pixel tears; those tears are the detail people remember, so draw them crisp. The alternative is a light cube head with a black-and-gray face and big mesh sight openings. Gray gloves and silver squares at the cuffs add a little contrast. Carry a white cloud block or translucent cube bag. Soft fabric streamers are safer around stairs and chairs than any stiff tentacle.
34. Minecraft Slime Cosplay With Transparent Cube

The Slime is a fun one to build, but clear plastic is the material to be careful with. Start from a lime green bodysuit, sweatsuit or square tunic over green leggings, with darker translucent vinyl squares across the torso for that layered look. A green bob wig, black rectangular eye makeup and a straight pixel smile do the face. For the bigger version, a clear cube frame around the upper body uses transparent plastic sheets with foam edging; plastic sheet has sharp cut edges, so the foam trim is there for safety as well as looks. Green sneakers and gloves keep the colour unbroken. Carry a small slime cube as a purse, and make the outer cube detachable for sitting and travel.
35. Minecraft Magma Cube Cosplay With Lava Pixels

The Magma Cube is black clothing with fire laid on top in squares. Wear a black sweatshirt and pants with orange, red and yellow rectangular panels across the torso, and black sneakers in orange foam covers. Lay the fire colours out so the yellow sits in the middle and the red stays near the edges, which gives you that glowing-core look. A short black wig with red clips, orange eye shadow, square yellow highlights and a straight dark mouth finish the head. A foam cube tunic can replace the sweatshirt for a more literal shape. Carry a small lava block with battery lights, and add reflective orange tape to brighten the pattern. Skip anything that trails.
36. Minecraft Guardian Cosplay With Prismarine Armor

The Guardian is ocean colours on angular armour. Start with a teal jumpsuit or fitted top and pants, then layer pale green and blue foam panels over the shoulders, chest and thighs, with aqua sneakers in rectangular covers. A turquoise wig styled back from the face, sea-green makeup and a large central square eye on a light visor or forehead panel give it the one-eyed look. Foam spikes around the shoulders and back need rounded tips; I sand the points off with a rotary tool or just trim them blunt with scissors before painting. Carry a prismarine cube bag or blue water block. Iridescent fabric between the armour panels catches light as you move. Compact, flexible spikes keep it crowd-safe.
37. Minecraft Ender Dragon Cosplay With Purple Wings

The Ender Dragon is the boss of the list, and the wings decide whether it's wearable. Build on a black fitted base with layered scale-like foam panels, purple accents, black boots and black gloves. A long black wig with purple streaks, smoky violet eye makeup and square lavender highlights do the head, with short block horns on a padded headband instead of a heavy helmet. The wings are black fabric over light frames with purple rectangular panels on the edges. I'd build them to fold flat against your back, because open wings take out drinks and passers-by. A long segmented tail clips to a belt with removable straps. Carry a small purple crystal cube, and keep every edge soft.
38. Minecraft Creaking Cosplay With Pale Wood Armor

The Creaking is one of the newer mobs, and its look is pale wood, gray bark and glowing orange. Begin with a charcoal or dark brown fitted base and comfortable black boots. Narrow beige and gray foam panels across the torso, arms and legs build an angular, tree-like frame; a dry brush of darker paint over the gray gives the bark texture quickly. A light gray wig styled into stiff sections sits under short foam branches. Muted gray makeup, squared contouring and bright orange eye panels on a light mask or visor make the face, and a glowing chest block uses translucent foam and battery lights. Carry a pale wood cube, round every branch tip and keep the shoulders compact.
39. Minecraft Breeze Cosplay With Wind Swirl Skirt

The Breeze is about movement, so this is the one build where I want fabric to swing. Wear a navy fitted top with deep blue leggings and white or blue high-tops. The spiral overskirt is layers of pale blue organza cut with squared, pixel ends and fixed firmly at the waist. Organza frays fast, so a quick pass with fray stopper or a narrow rolled hem on each cut edge is worth the time. A slate-blue wig styled upward gives height without a helmet. Blue-gray makeup, bright rectangular eyes and white cheek highlights finish the face, and foam shoulder panels suggest the block-shaped upper body. Carry a translucent wind cube with white spirals, and keep every layer above the ankle.
40. Minecraft Bogged Cosplay With Mossy Details

The Bogged is a swamp skeleton, so it takes the Skeleton's bones and covers them in moss. Wear a pale gray top and pants with flat white bone rectangles, kept stylised, plus gray sneakers, light gloves and removable green foam vines around the shoulders. A silver or pale green wig sits under a crown of soft moss, leaves and small pink fabric flowers. Faux moss sheds crumbs, so I seal the back of any moss piece with a coat of glue before it goes near a wig. White and gray square makeup with green eye accents keeps it far from gore. Carry a moss or flower-covered swamp block. Vines can reach a little past the arms, but nothing should trail on the ground.
Felt, Foam or Paint for the Pixel Squares
Almost every costume on this list needs a grid of coloured squares, and the material you choose changes how long it lasts. Here's how I decide.
Felt for anything that bends
Felt is my default on hoodies, joggers and sleeves. It doesn't fray, so you can cut squares with no finishing, and it moves with the fabric. Stitch it on with a zigzag or straight stitch near the edge. Glued felt tends to peel off stretchy knits within an hour, because the glue stiffens and the knit keeps stretching underneath it.
Foam for the stiff parts
Craft foam suits cuffs, shoe covers, headbands and anything that should hold a flat edge. EVA foam is thicker and better for shells, armour and the Golem's panels. Hot glue holds foam to foam well, but it lets go in cold air, so for an outdoor night I'd use contact cement on any joint that takes strain.
Paint for big, flat areas
Fabric paint and a square sponge are fastest on a large panel like the Creeper's body or the Sniffer's back. Tape off a grid with painter's tape first and the squares come out crisp. Paint stiffens fabric a little, so I keep it off underarms and the inside of the knees.
Getting a Cube Costume to the Venue in One Piece
Box heads and shells rarely break while you wear them. They break in the car boot or on a train. Pack the head inside a larger cardboard box, or stuff it with a towel so it can't be squashed, and travel in the base clothes so the bulky parts go on only once you arrive. Bring a small repair kit: a glue stick or two, gaffer tape, safety pins and spare elastic. Wings, rods and tails should all come off with snaps or straps, which makes them easy to hand to a friend in a queue and easy to store flat afterwards. When you get home, let any damp cardboard dry out flat before you put it away, and it will usually survive for another year.
The Mob I'd Cut Squares for First
If you've never built a costume before, start with a hoodie-based animal like the Pig, Wolf or Cat: no head to build, a sewing machine optional, and you'll learn how felt squares behave before you try foam. Once that goes well, a villager or the Trader is a good next step, and the box heads, shells and wings can come after. Whatever you pick, wear the whole thing around the house for an hour before the event and walk up and down the stairs in it. That one test catches the loose straps, the itchy seams and the head that slides. Mix and match the colours and props to suit yourself, because nobody at the event will hold you to the exact pixels.
