An Enderman is mostly a sewing and cardboard problem: make a black figure look taller and thinner than a person really is, give it a square head with long purple eyes, and put a block in its hands. Get those three things right and the rest is detail. The 35 builds below run from a hoodie with felt eyes to foam heads with lights, with versions for kids, toddlers, couples, families and different bodies. Cardboard, thin foam and no-sew black clothing do most of the work in the homemade ones. Each idea covers the base layers, the head or hair, makeup, props and shoes, and I've flagged where a piece gets hot, heavy or hard to see out of.

Building a Box Head You Can Actually See Out Of
Half the builds below use a cube head, and the most common complaint I hear about them is the same: you can't see your feet. Endermen have long, narrow eyes set across the face, and if you cut them where they look right on the box, they often end up above your own eyes. Plan the head around your face first and the look second.
- Put on the cap or helmet you'll wear inside, then measure from the top of it to your eyes, and around the widest part of your head. Add a couple of finger-widths of room on every side.
- Cut the box or foam to that size and mark the eye slots at your real eye height. Make them long and shallow, like the character's, and extend them slightly toward the sides so you keep some side vision.
- Glue purple mesh or speaker cloth behind the slots. From the outside it looks solid purple; from inside you can see through it, as long as the inside of the head is painted black.
- Cut vents along the bottom edge and back, where nobody looks. A head with no airflow fogs your glasses and gets hot within minutes.
- Line the top with a layer of soft foam or a folded towel, and fix the head to a helmet, hard hat liner or headband so it moves with you instead of rocking.
Wear it around the house for half an hour before the event. If it rubs anywhere, add padding there now. You won't want to fix it once you're out.
1. Classic Cardboard Enderman Cosplay

The cardboard version is where most people start, and with reason: one box, black clothes and a grass block, and everyone knows what you are. Wear a fitted black long-sleeve shirt, black pants and black gloves. Paint or paper the box head matte black, then cut long eye slots and back them with translucent purple plastic, mesh or tissue so you can see out. Tissue tears if it gets damp, so mesh is the better choice if you'll be outside. Hide your hair in the box and darken any skin around the eye area. A painted cardboard grass block and black sneakers with foam shoe panels finish it; soft foam sleeve extensions are optional.
2. Lightweight Foam Enderman Cosplay

Thin EVA foam or flexible upholstery foam makes a head that weighs far less than cardboard and doesn't crush when someone bumps you. I'd mount it on a bicycle helmet or a padded headband rather than resting it on your shoulders, because a head that rides on your shoulders swings and blocks the eye holes every time you turn. Wear breathable black athletic layers, gloves and supportive sneakers underneath. Tie hair flat under a wig cap and use water-based black makeup on any exposed skin. Foam rectangles on the forearms and shins add blockiness, and elastic straps with hook-and-loop let you strip pieces off fast between photos.
3. No-Sew Enderman Cosplay

No sewing at all? A black hoodie, sweatpants, knit gloves and black shoes are the base. Lay strips of purple felt across the hood for the eyes, or wear a lightweight black cube mask over the hood if you want the square head. Felt sticks to cotton jersey reasonably well with fabric tape, but on a fleecy polyester hoodie it lets go, so press it hard and check it before you leave. Small purple felt squares on the sleeves and legs make particles. A box wrapped in green and brown paper becomes the grass block. Because nothing is rigid, this one survives trick-or-treating and long school days.
4. Enderman Hoodie Cosplay

The hoodie version reads clearly in photos and is the one teenagers actually keep wearing. Start with an oversized black hoodie and add purple rectangular eyes across the hood. The hood only looks square if there's something to hold it up, so wear hair in a low bun or flat under a cap, or slip a strip of stiff felt inside the front edge. Slim black joggers, gloves and chunky black sneakers give a long, dark line. Smoky eyes with purple liner and a touch of violet shimmer suit the open face. Removable purple ribbon strips along the shoulders hint at particles, and a small cube bag painted like dirt holds your phone.
5. Black Bodysuit Enderman Cosplay

A black bodysuit is the smoothest base for an exaggerated, long-limbed Enderman. Check opacity before anything else: stretch a cheap bodysuit over your knee in good light, and if you can see skin through it, a flash will show everything. Pick one with a face opening rather than a full hood. Add a foam cube head with purple mesh eyes, hair under a wig cap and a little black makeup around the face. Long foam forearm covers and shin panels make the limbs look narrower and longer without stilts. Flexible sneakers under shoe covers, a few purple strips on clear thread and a light block finish it. Test your side vision with the head on, and bring a friend to guide you through crowds.
6. Glam Enderman Cosplay

Glam Enderman swaps the box head for makeup and keeps the black-and-purple palette. A fitted black jumpsuit, or a long-sleeve top with high-waisted wide-leg pants, gives the long line. A cropped, angular foam shoulder piece brings in the blockiness, so the outfit doesn't just look like a night out in black. Style a sleek high ponytail with purple extensions, then do sharp purple eyes, black lipstick and small square gems at the temples. A narrow mask with rectangular violet lenses can stand in for the head. Stable black platform boots, long gloves, geometric earrings and a cube handbag painted as a grass block make the character link clear.
7. Enderman Streetwear Cosplay

Streetwear Enderman is built from clothes you'd wear anyway. Layer an oversized black bomber over a fitted turtleneck and straight cargo pants, then add high-tops, fingerless gloves and a crossbody cube bag with a pixel grass print. A tall braided ponytail or a long black wig with vivid purple streaks replaces the box head. Purple graphic liner, smoky shadow and square stickers at the outer corners give you eyes and particles. Rectangular purple sunglasses and removable foam shoulder panels square off the silhouette. I like this one for a long convention day, since nothing covers your head and you can turn around freely.
8. Pixel Dress Enderman Cosplay

A black pixel dress is a fun way to make the Enderman cute. Choose a knee-length A-line dress or tunic in matte black, and apply purple fabric squares around the hem, sleeves and neckline. If you sew, a narrow zigzag around each square stops the edges fraying and lifting in a way glue never quite manages. Opaque tights and low block-heel ankle boots keep it comfortable. A straight black bob wig with purple clips like floating pixels, long violet shadow, black liner and square gems make the face. Long gloves with foam cuffs stretch the arms, and a cube handbag carries the block. A headband with two horizontal purple rectangles adds structure without hiding the makeup.
9. LED Eye Enderman Cosplay

Glowing eyes are the detail that makes people stop you at a convention. Put battery-powered purple LED strips behind translucent mesh eye panels in a lightweight foam head. Lights behind mesh can dazzle you from the inside, so I'd angle the strips toward the outer edges of the eyes and test it in a dark room before you finish. Keep the battery pack in a padded pocket away from your face. Tie hair flat under a black cap and black out the skin around your eyes and forehead. A compression shirt, straight pants, gloves and booted foam covers make the body, and vents at the back and bottom of the head keep it bearable.
10. Purple Particle Enderman Cosplay

Here the particles are the costume. Start with a plain black unitard or a fitted top and pants, then fix small purple foam cubes to short clear flexible rods on a belt, a shoulder harness and wrist cuffs. Keep the rods short and the cubes spaced well apart; anything that sticks out more than a hand's width will catch other people's hair and drinks. A black rectangular hood with purple mesh eyes, hair under a wig cap and black face paint around the eyes keep the head simple. Add narrow foam arm panels, stable platform sneakers and one small painted foam orb instead of a big block. The cubes bob as you walk, which looks great on a stage or in video.
11. Grass Block Enderman Cosplay

A grass block does more to say Enderman than almost anything else you can add, so this is a good beginner build. Wear a matte black long-sleeve shirt, slim pants, gloves and flat lace-up boots. Build a box head from foam board with purple mesh eyes and vent holes along the lower edge. Hide your hair inside it and use black cream makeup on the neck. For the block, cover a small cube with green paper on top and pixel-brown paper on the sides, and tape a handle inside so you're not gripping a corner all night. Detachable black forearm sleeves and foam shoe covers lengthen you, and it's cheap enough for a whole family.
12. End Dimension Enderman Cosplay

The End is the Enderman's home dimension, so this build brings a bit of it along. Wear a black fitted jumpsuit under a sleeveless black cape painted or printed with scattered purple squares; fabric paint dries stiff, so dab it on lightly rather than in thick blocks. A rectangular foam head with bright violet mesh eyes and hair under a smooth black hood keep the top neat. Shade the neck with charcoal makeup before the head goes on. Instead of grass, carry a pale yellow block for the End's stone landscape. A few purple cubes on clear wire at one shoulder suggest teleporting. Hem the cape at the ankle so you don't step on it.
13. Teleporting Enderman Cosplay

Teleporting is what Endermen do, and you can show it with uneven pixels. Wear a black mock-neck, fitted cargo pants, gloves and plain combat-style boots. Sew or stick purple squares to one side of the body, spacing them farther apart as they climb toward the shoulder and wrist. An asymmetrical hood or partial cube head showing one purple mesh eye pairs with a second eye drawn in graphic makeup on the open side. Clear rods on a belt hold a few lightweight cubes away from you. A block cut into separated foam sections looks half-vanished. It photographs like a glitch, and there are no electronics to fail.
14. Kids Enderman Cosplay

For kids, I start from what they'll tolerate, not what looks most accurate. A black sweatshirt, soft joggers, stretchy gloves and cushioned sneakers are the base. If you make a head, make it roomy, with big mesh eye openings, plenty of vents and soft padding inside, and expect it to come off within an hour. Tie long hair low under a light cap and use only washable face paint. Felt squares on the clothes do the particles; skip arm extensions, which children trip over and pull off. A small cardboard grass block with an easy handle is the main prop, and purple reflective tape on the back and sleeves helps drivers see them in the dark.
15. Toddler Enderman Cosplay

Toddlers need everything soft and easy for an adult to take off. A black hooded pajama set or fleece tracksuit with non-slip shoes is enough of a base. Sew two large purple felt rectangles to the hood instead of building a box, which would block their view and scare some of them. A tiny sweep of washable purple at the outer eyes is plenty of makeup. Stitch soft felt squares along the sleeves and legs. For the block, sew a small stuffed fabric cube in green and brown, which they'll happily carry or hug. Black mittens finish it, and the whole thing is safe to sit, nap and snack in.
16. Plus Size Enderman Cosplay

A strong vertical line flatters every body, and the Enderman is all vertical line, so this one is easy to adapt. Start with a black tunic, a longline open jacket and straight-leg pants in breathable stretch fabric; the open jacket falling straight down the front does a lot of the lengthening. Cushioned sneakers or wide-fit ankle boots keep you comfortable. Wear a foam headband with horizontal purple eyes or a vented cube head. A high black-and-purple ponytail, long violet shadow and square gems suit the open face. Long gloves with narrow foam cuffs add blocky detail, removable purple pixels go on the jacket, and a green-and-brown cube tote holds your water bottle.
17. Maternity Enderman Cosplay

For a pregnant Enderman, comfort and balance come before height. Wear a soft black maternity jumpsuit or a long black tunic over stretch leggings, with supportive slip-on sneakers. I'd skip platforms, closed masks and trailing pieces entirely. A black hood with two purple rectangular eye patches gives the face without affecting your view. A low braid under the hood, light purple liner and a few square face stickers are enough makeup. Scatter violet felt pixels across the shoulders rather than over the bump, where they'll pull and lift as you move. A very light stuffed grass block or a small cube crossbody bag is all you need to carry.
18. Men’s Enderman Cosplay

Tailored black layers do the stretching on a men's Enderman. A fitted black mock-neck with straight trousers and a long sleeveless coat gives height, because a coat that falls past the knee reads as one long column. Add black gloves and sturdy boots with angular foam covers. A slim foam-board head with purple mesh eye strips and small vents goes on top; short hair under a skull cap, longer hair tied flat. Blend the neck with water-based black makeup. Forearm extensions look good in photos but get in the way at a party, so make them removable. Carry a stone cube or grass block with an inside handle, and use reflective tape sparingly on the coat.
19. Enderman Cosplay With Black Dress

A long black dress becomes an Enderman with a few hard edges added. Choose a column, maxi or long-sleeve knit dress, and walk around in it first; a narrow column with no slit can stop you climbing a single stair. Opaque tights and black platform boots with wide soles keep you steady. A straight black wig with purple underlayers, bright purple rectangular eyes edged with black liner and square gems along the cheekbones make the face. Angular foam shoulders and long gloves give the creature outline, and purple pixels on clear thread move as you do. A cube purse painted as a grass block and a black visor for photos finish it.
20. Teen Enderman Cosplay

Teens want to be recognised without looking like they're wearing a box, so this version stays soft. Start with an oversized black sweatshirt, cargo joggers, knit gloves and black-and-purple sneakers. Two horizontal felt eyes go on the hood and a scatter of fabric pixels runs down one sleeve. Hair goes into a high ponytail with purple ribbon or tucks under the hood. Violet liner, washable purple mascara and square stickers stand in for full black face paint, which school dress codes often frown on anyway. A cube backpack painted as a grass block is both prop and bag, and a light foam collar squares the shoulders without making it bulky.
21. Convention Enderman Cosplay

A full convention build has to look impressive and still let you breathe after three hours. Build a reinforced EVA foam head with purple mesh eyes, hidden vents and a removable helmet harness inside. Wear moisture-wicking black layers under light foam arm and shin panels. Hair goes under a breathable cap, and black makeup covers the eyes, ears and neck. Cushioned boots with tall rectangular foam covers add height without the risk of stilts. Purple cubes on short clear rods mount to a padded shoulder harness. A hollow foam block that opens can hold your wallet. Sand every edge, check your view, and make the big pieces come off before lifts, crowds and seats.
22. Casual Enderman Cosplay

Sometimes you just want a costume you can wear all day without thinking about it. A black turtleneck, relaxed jeans, a long cardigan and black sneakers are the base, and a purple rectangular sunglasses shape or a handmade eye visor replaces the head. Straight dark hair with temporary purple clips, smoky violet eyes and a few square freckles at the temples carry the face. Black gloves with purple cuffs connect the everyday clothes to the character. A small grass-block lunch bag or cube purse gives people the clue, and removable felt squares on the cardigan act as particles. It's a good one for a gaming party or the drive to a convention.
23. Winter Enderman Cosplay

Endermen are all black and long, which makes them surprisingly easy to dress for cold. Begin with a black thermal top, fleece-lined pants, a long puffer coat, insulated gloves and proper black boots. Pull a black balaclava or knit hood over your hair, then set a lightweight foam cube head on top with wide mesh eyes. Fittingly, Endermen hate water in the game, and so does cardboard, so stick to foam if snow or drizzle is likely. Use makeup only where skin still shows. Purple reflective tape on the coat and gloves doubles as particles and visibility. A fabric-covered foam grass block and a cube backpack for spare layers finish it.
24. Summer Enderman Cosplay

In summer, the box head is the first thing I'd drop. A loose black athletic tee with light black shorts or cropped pants, thin gloves and ventilated sneakers keep you cool. Swap the cube for a foam visor with two purple rectangular lenses, and keep your neck clear with a high ponytail with purple extensions or a short black wig. Waterproof violet liner, mascara and square face decals hold up to sweat better than heavy face paint, which slides on a hot day. A detachable sleeveless overshirt printed with purple pixels adds the pattern. Carry a small hollow grass block with vent holes and an inside handle.
25. Enderman Pajama Cosplay

The pajama version is for sleepovers and movie nights, and it's the easiest sewing project in the list. Take a black pajama set, onesie or lounge suit and add purple rectangular eyes to the hood. Fleece is the best fabric for the pixels, since cut edges don't fray and a few running stitches hold each square for good. Wear black slippers with non-slip soles and light gloves or mitts. Braid hair under the hood and add a little purple shadow if you want. A plush cube in grass-block colours makes a safe prop and a pillow. Soft rectangular panels down the outside of the legs add height, and nothing hard means you can sprawl on the floor.
26. Couple Enderman Cosplay

Two Endermen look like a pair when they match in proportion and differ in small details. Both wear black long-sleeve tops, straight pants, gloves and sturdy black shoes, each with a light cube head that has its own vents and padding. Tie hair under black caps and black out any visible skin. Give one person a grass block and the other a pale End-stone block, both hollow foam. Put the purple pixels on opposite shoulders, so standing side by side the particles mirror each other. I'd also give one of you matte black and the other a subtle sheen, which keeps the pair from blending into one dark shape in photos.
27. Parent And Child Enderman Cosplay

Tall and small is a sweet way to do this as parent and child. The adult wears a black jumpsuit, gloves, foam limb panels and cushioned boots with a vented cube head. The child gets a softer sweatshirt and joggers and an open-face hood with purple felt rectangles, so they can see where they're walking. Put both hairstyles under black caps and use gentle makeup around the eyes. Each carries a block, with the child's sewn from stuffed fabric. Match the purple squares on both outfits but keep the child's flat and flexible. The repeated colour ties you together even when the child's version is much simpler.
28. Enderman Family Cosplay

A family of Endermen holds together when everyone shares the same black base and each person carries a different block. Adults wear black shirts, pants, gloves and boots with light rectangular heads; children wear hoodies, joggers and sneakers with open-face hoods and purple felt strips. Washable purple makeup around the eyes is enough for little ones. Hand out grass, stone, sand and pale End-stone cubes made from cardboard, foam or stuffed fabric, which gives each person a role in the group photo. Move the purple squares around so no two costumes are identical. Matching cube backpacks are easier than handheld props, and flat shoes let the group actually walk somewhere together.
29. Enderman And Dragon Duo Cosplay

Pair an Enderman with the Ender Dragon, the End's boss, and the two costumes share a palette but not a shape. The Enderman wears a black jumpsuit, gloves, boots, a foam cube head with purple mesh eyes and carries a grass block. The dragon wears black and deep purple layers with a fitted hood, soft horns, light fabric wings and a tail that stops above the ground. A tail that touches the floor gets stepped on within minutes, so I always hem it short. Both wear matching violet eye makeup and square gems, and purple foam pixels on short clear rods tie the costumes together. Flat shoes for both, and keep the wings narrow indoors.
30. Enderman And Block Hero Duo Cosplay

Put the Enderman next to the game's familiar blocky hero and the contrast tells the story. The Enderman wears matte black, gloves, rectangular foam limb panels, boots and a cube head with purple mesh eyes. The hero wears a turquoise short-sleeve top, deep blue pants, square foam wrist cuffs and brown shoes, with a short dark wig or block hair cap and angular brows. Give the Enderman a grass block and the hero a soft foam pixel tool, nothing hard. Keep both headpieces removable. Tall dark creature beside a bright little adventurer is one of the easiest duo shots to get right.
31. Royal Enderman Cosplay

A royal Enderman adds ceremony to the narrow black figure. Wear a long black coat or a structured gown over fitted pants and tall flat boots, with black gloves and angular cuffs. A crown made from black foam squares with purple accents weighs almost nothing; real metal crowns tip forward on a smooth wig. Style a sleek black updo or long straight wig with violet strands, long purple shadow, black lipstick and geometric gems at the temples. A partial visor with rectangular purple lenses frames the makeup. A short purple-lined cape with square particles around the hem, and a pale cube on a small handle like a sceptre, finish it.
32. Cyber Enderman Cosplay

Cyber Enderman uses reflective surfaces and controlled light. Start with a black fitted jacket, technical cargo pants, gloves and chunky sneakers, then add narrow foam armour panels on the forearms, shoulders and shins outlined in purple reflective tape. A smooth black helmet or visor with horizontal violet LED eyes needs generous vents. Tuck hair under a wig cap and use silver-black makeup with sharp purple liner. Iridescent cubes on clear shoulder rods act as digital particles, and a black cube bag with lit purple edges is the prop. Run every wire inside the lining and tack it down with a few stitches, since loose cables snag on door handles.
33. Steampunk Enderman Cosplay

Steampunk turns the Enderman into a tailoring project. Wear a black high-neck shirt, fitted vest, straight trousers, long coat, gloves and lace-up boots. Rectangular foam panels painted matte black get small bronze-coloured corners, and the cube head gets purple mesh eyes framed with faux gauges and light tubing. Tie hair flat and shade the skin with black makeup and violet shadow. Purple fabric particles on thin rods rise from a small backpack harness. A cube case painted as a grass block with antique-style trim is the prop. Real metal fittings add weight fast, so stick to painted foam and plastic that only look like brass.
34. Glow Party Enderman Cosplay

Under black light, the purple parts are all anyone sees, so this one is mostly tape. Start with black dancewear: a fitted long-sleeve top, flexible pants, gloves and supportive sneakers. Cut fluorescent purple fabric tape into eyes and pixels across the hood, shoulders, cuffs and legs. Fluorescent tape fades fast if it's stuck in sunlight for weeks, so store it in the dark until the party. A black ponytail with neon violet extensions, UV-reactive purple liner and square decals glow, while the rest of the face stays matte black. An open-face hood is far safer for dancing than a box. A glowing foam cube and ribbons at the wrists finish it.
35. Last Minute Enderman Cosplay

Out of time? A black hoodie, black jeans or leggings, knit gloves and black sneakers will do. Fix two wide rectangles of purple paper or felt to the hood above your natural eye line, so your face stays clear. Tuck your hair in, or add a few violet clips. Draw long horizontal purple shadow edged in black liner, and add small skin-safe cosmetic squares at the temples. Removable fashion tape holds felt pixels on the sleeves. A delivery box covered in green and brown construction paper becomes the grass block. No sewing, no special shoes, no head to build, and people still know you on sight.
Why Your Blacks Won't Match Under Flash
An all-black costume sounds easy to assemble until you photograph it. Black fabrics are dyed differently, and under a camera flash some go faintly brown, some blue and some grey. Cotton jersey reads soft and dark, polyester can bounce light and look shiny, and black jeans that have been washed a few times often show as charcoal next to a new top.
- Lay every black piece out together in daylight before you commit. If one stands out, swap it now.
- Matte fabrics hide seams and edges best. Save anything shiny for a deliberate accent, like the cyber or royal looks.
- Paint cardboard and foam with matte black paint, not gloss. A glossy head shows every dent and glares in photos.
- If skin shows between the head and collar, a black neck gaiter is quicker and less messy than face paint.
Black Face Paint Without the Mess
Several looks use black makeup around the eyes and neck. I'd patch-test it on the inside of your wrist the day before, since dark pigments bother some skin. Set it with translucent powder so it doesn't print onto your collar or the inside of a foam head, and keep it a little away from your eyelashes. To take it off, an oil-based cleanser or cleansing balm breaks it down far better than soap and water, followed by a normal wash.
And remember that black on a dark street is close to invisible. On any build worn outside at night, reflective tape on the back and sleeves is worth more than one more particle.
A Hoodie and a Grass Block Get You Most of the Way
Strip any of these builds down and the same four things are doing the work: a long black figure, long purple eyes, a few square particles and a block in your hands. Everything else, from foam heads to LED eyes to floating cubes, is extra you can add once that base is right. Choose fabrics you can breathe in, test that you can see out of any head before the day, and keep your shoes flat and steady. For small children, a soft hood with felt eyes is plenty. If you're coordinating a group, share the black and hand everyone a different block.
