Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a couples costume where the clothes can be almost ordinary and the joke still lands, as long as you both look a little too alert. The 2005 film gave us sleek black formalwear, suburban disguises and that famous oversized white shirt. The 2024 series swapped glamour for soft neutrals, practical layers, vintage menswear and expensive-looking travel clothes. I like that range, because it means most couples can build a version from their own wardrobes and a thrift rail. Below are forty-five takes, from evening disguises to lazy last-minute ones, each with clothes for both partners, hair, makeup and a harmless prop or two such as faux passports and earpieces.

How Two Outfits Start to Look Like One Couple
Couples costumes fail in a quiet way: each person looks fine alone, but side by side they look like two guests who arrived separately. For a spy pair with no logo or mask, the link has to come from the clothes. When I style a couple, I settle three things before either of us goes shopping.
- One shared colour. Black, camel, navy or red should appear on both people, even if it's only a scarf on one and a jacket on the other.
- One matched level of formality. A tuxedo beside jeans looks like a mistake, unless the contrast is the joke, as in the leather-jacket or masc versions.
- One identical prop. Matching earpieces or matching watches are the cheapest way to say "we're on the same job".
After that, I want the silhouettes different. Two identical trench coats look like a uniform, while a long trench beside a cropped jacket looks like two people with a secret. Lay both outfits out on the bed and photograph them together on your phone. If they don't read as a pair in a small photo, they won't across a party either.
1. Mr And Mrs Smith Black Dress And Tuxedo Costume

The black dress and tuxedo is the version most people picture first. She wears a fitted knee-length black evening dress with a clean neckline, sheer tights, pointed pumps and a structured clutch, with smooth waves or a polished updo, a red lip and softly defined eyes. He wears a white dress shirt, black bow tie, tailored trousers and polished lace-ups, with slicked-back or side-parted hair. A rented or thrifted tux jacket that's slightly too big ruins the line, so I have the sleeves pinned to the wrist bone before anything else. Matching earpieces, faux invitations and good watches carry the spy story without any tactical gear.
2. Mr And Mrs Smith White Shirt Costume

The oversized white-shirt scene is the cheapest couples look here and one of the most recognised. She wears a long white button-down over fitted white shorts, bare-look tights, simple pumps, loose dark waves and a defined lip. He wears a fitted white undershirt, plaid lounge pants and house slippers, with tousled hair. White cotton shirts can be more see-through than you expect under flash, so I hold a shirt up to a lamp before buying it and add fashion tape at the front placket. A folded newspaper, two coffee mugs and faux wedding rings are all the props you need.
3. Mr And Mrs Smith Suburban Dinner Costume

What if the dull couple next door had far more exciting jobs? That's the whole joke of the suburban dinner look. She wears a neutral wrap dress, delicate earrings, low heels and a smooth shoulder-length style with rosy blush and a quiet lipstick. He wears a pale button-down, khaki trousers, a brown belt, loafers and a classic watch. The casserole dish is the prop people laugh at, and I use a light enamel or disposable one so it isn't a weight on your arm all night. Tiny hidden earpieces give the game away. It's a calm, family-friendly choice for a party where you don't want to look theatrical.
4. Mr And Mrs Smith Black Tactical Costume

The black tactical look needs fitted layers that still let you bend, sit and dance. She combines a long-sleeve mock-neck, straight-leg utility pants, a cropped vest and flat ankle boots, with a high ponytail and a subtle smoky eye. He wears a black crewneck, utility trousers, a light zip jacket and sturdy black boots. Earpieces, fingerless gloves, small flashlights and blank ID cards are the props. I'd keep away from realistic weapons and bulky protective gear, which look aggressive at a party and are often banned at venues anyway. Matching belts and compact crossbody bags tie the two outfits together.
5. Mr And Mrs Smith White Kitchen Costume

Their kitchen fight is a gift for a black-and-white couple. Both of you start with crisp white shirts and tailored black bottoms. She wears a fitted blouse, cropped black pants, pointed flats and a loose low ponytail with winged liner. He rolls the sleeves of a white button-down over black trousers and leather loafers, with slightly rumpled hair, as if dinner was interrupted. Wooden spoons, oven mitts or a silver serving tray make safe kitchen props. Iron the shirts properly, then ruffle only the hair; a creased shirt just looks tired, not dramatic. Matching black watches and earpieces finish it.
6. Mr And Mrs Smith Red Dress And Black Suit Costume

A red dress beside a plain black suit is about the easiest contrast you can buy. She wears a fitted midi dress with a defined waist, black pumps, a small evening bag, gold earrings, glossy waves, a classic red lip and soft eyes. He wears a slim black suit, an open-collar white shirt, polished shoes and a simple watch, neat but not stiff. I match her lipstick to the dress in daylight, not under a bathroom bulb, since blue-red and orange-red clash badly side by side. A faux hotel key card, an invitation and tiny earpieces are enough. Save it for a dressy party.
7. Mr And Mrs Smith Desert Mission Costume

The desert mission uses warm beige, olive and brown. She wears an olive utility jumpsuit with a tan belt, a light scarf and lace-up ankle boots, with a low braid and matte, sun-warmed makeup. He combines a sand field jacket with a cream tee, brown cargo pants and rugged boots, plus sunglasses. Canteens, folded maps, binoculars and canvas messenger bags are the props. Skip camouflage that looks like a real military uniform. Linen-blend and cotton keep it cool in a warm-climate Halloween, and nearly all of it can be pulled from a regular outdoor wardrobe.
8. Mr And Mrs Smith Ski Lodge Costume

If your party is outside on a cold night, the ski lodge disguise is the one I'd choose. She wears a fitted cream turtleneck, white ski pants, a belted puffer, snow boots and a knitted headband over a low ponytail, with rosy cheeks and a soft berry lip. He wears a charcoal sweater, black insulated pants, a neutral puffer and winter boots, hair a little windblown. Carry goggles, lift passes and a folded resort map; leave the skis at home, since they're a nightmare in a doorway. Matching gloves and discreet earpieces bring in the spy angle. Indoors, unzip the puffers or you'll overheat in ten minutes.
9. Mr And Mrs Smith Lake Como Costume

The Lake Como look borrows from the series' expensive travel wardrobe. She wears a flowing green midi dress, refined flats, a silk-look scarf and a structured handbag, hair half-up with soft movement and a muted rose lip. He pairs a textured polo with cream trousers, a light brown jacket, polished loafers and sunglasses. Faux passports, a vintage-style camera and folded travel papers tell everyone what you're up to. I'd spend effort on the fabric here: a matte, heavy-draping dress reads as luxurious, a shiny thin one does not. Most of these pieces you'll wear again on holiday.
10. Mr And Mrs Smith Farmers Market Costume

Not every disguise needs formal clothing. The farmers-market version is weekend basics plus a few spy touches. She wears a breezy green day dress, a cropped denim jacket, comfortable sneakers and a woven tote, hair natural or half-up. He wears a neutral knit shirt, straight jeans, a casual jacket and brown walking shoes, with sunglasses and a canvas shopping bag. Fill the bags with artificial produce, flowers and a shopping list of silly "mission" notes. Light faux produce matters; real apples in a tote get heavy by the second hour. Small earpieces finish the joke, and series fans will spot it.
11. Mr And Mrs Smith Leather Jacket Costume

A brown leather-look jacket gives him a rugged vintage edge, and she balances it with colour. He layers it over a cream ribbed shirt, dark straight jeans and brown derbies, with tousled hair and sunglasses. She wears an olive midi dress under a cropped tan jacket, with ankle boots, a structured shoulder bag, a half-up twist and natural makeup with defined brows. Faux leather is cheaper and easier to find, though cheap vinyl gets sweaty and squeaks when you move, so I look for a soft polyurethane with a fabric back. Faux passports, matching watches and earpieces set the scene.
12. Mr And Mrs Smith All White Costume

An all-white couple is striking and modern, as long as the whites don't fight. She wears a fitted ivory blouse with wide-leg white trousers, pointed pumps and a small cream bag, dark hair in a sleek bun, luminous skin and a neutral lip. He combines a white knit polo with tailored cream pants, a light ivory jacket and clean white sneakers. I mix shades on purpose, ivory, cream and bright white, and vary the textures so the outfits don't look flat in photos. Silver watches, clear earpieces and white document folders add the mission. It's best in a bright indoor room, and carry stain wipes.
13. Mr And Mrs Smith Double Denim Costume

Double denim turns the pair into believable travellers. She tucks a chambray shirt into dark straight-leg jeans, then adds a brown belt, ankle boots, a compact crossbody and a messy bun with minimal makeup. He layers a medium-wash denim jacket over a grey tee and black jeans, with sturdy brown shoes, tousled hair and sunglasses. Faux train tickets, folded maps and matching canvas bags suggest a low-key assignment. The trick is contrasting washes, never two identical sets, which look like a uniform. It's easy to thrift and comfortable for a long night.
14. Mr And Mrs Smith Trench Coat Costume

Nothing says undercover faster than two well-fitted trench coats. She wears a beige belted trench over a black turtleneck dress, sheer tights, heeled ankle boots, a smooth low bun, defined liner and a red lip. He wears a darker tan trench over a navy sweater, charcoal trousers and polished lace-ups, with a neat side part. Both carry slim folders, harmless magnifying glasses and earpieces. Leave the coats partly open so the outfits underneath show. I check the shoulder seam sits on the shoulder bone; a trench that's too wide there drowns a person and turns into a dressing gown. It's great in cool weather.
15. Mr And Mrs Smith Office Disguise Costume

The office disguise turns ordinary businesswear into a costume. She wears a charcoal pantsuit over a satin-look blouse, pointed pumps, a structured work tote and a sleek ponytail, with defined eyes and a mauve lip. He wears a navy suit, a pale blue shirt, a quiet tie and black dress shoes, plus a leather-look portfolio. Hide blank ID cards, coded sticky notes and earpieces in the bags, and carry two matching takeaway coffee cups. If your workplace has a Halloween day, this is the one I'd pick, because you can sit through real meetings in it and nobody has to remove anything.
16. Mr And Mrs Smith Gala Spy Costume

Picture an imaginary society gala. She chooses a dark emerald or black floor-length gown with a modest side slit, metallic heels, drop earrings and a compact clutch, with a smooth updo, luminous skin and a berry lip. He wears a black velvet dinner jacket, tailored trousers, a white shirt, a bow tie and patent-look shoes, plus a pocket square. Velvet picks up every crease and hair, so I keep a lint roller in his pocket and hang the jacket in a steamy bathroom before you leave. Faux gala programs, invitations and earpieces are the props. Elegance first, espionage second.
17. Mr And Mrs Smith Airport Costume

Two agents moving quietly through an airport is a comfortable couples look. She wears a black mock-neck, relaxed trousers, a long camel coat, white sneakers and a structured carry-on, with a low bun and clean makeup. He combines a grey knit sweater, dark chinos, a navy overcoat and leather sneakers, with a compact weekender. Faux boarding passes, passport covers, luggage tags and wireless earpieces tell the story. I stuff the bags with tissue paper, not clothes, so they hold their shape but weigh nothing. You can wear it all night without a single sore foot.
18. Mr And Mrs Smith Tennis Club Costume

The tennis club disguise is preppy and a bit funny. She wears a white pleated athletic skirt, a fitted polo, a light cardigan, clean sneakers and a fabric visor, with a high ponytail and sweat-resistant makeup. He wears white shorts, a navy-trimmed polo, a cream cable knit and court sneakers, with a simple headband. Carry vintage-style rackets in their covers, tennis balls, water bottles and hidden earpieces. Pleated athletic skirts usually have built-in shorts, which I'd look for, since you'll be sitting and standing all night. The all-white kit keeps the polished, undercover feel.
19. Mr And Mrs Smith Garden Party Costume

Soft colours make a garden party disguise nobody expects from a spy couple. She wears a floral midi dress with a light cardigan, block heels, pearl-look earrings and a small top-handle bag, with loose waves and rosy makeup. He pairs a pale linen-look blazer with a white shirt, khaki trousers and brown loafers, plus sunglasses. A bouquet, a folded garden map and a faux invitation with a secret meeting time are the props. Block heels matter if the party's on grass; stilettos sink. It's the cheerful option for a warm afternoon.
20. Mr And Mrs Smith Hotel Robe Costume

The hotel robe look is all comfort and a bit of humour: the couple caught between assignments. Both wear opaque, knee-length white robes over matching lounge shorts and fitted shirts. She adds a wrapped hair towel, soft slippers, a sleep mask and dewy makeup. He wears hotel-style slippers, messy hair and a visible undershirt. Carry faux room keys, newspapers, room-service menus and empty coffee cups. For monogrammed initials, I use iron-on letters on a scrap of fabric and pin that to the pocket, so the robe isn't marked for good. Tie the robes firmly and keep the base layers on.
21. Mr And Mrs Smith Pajama Mission Costume

Matching pyjamas are about as low-effort as a couples costume gets. She wears white pyjamas with red piping, soft ballet slippers and a satin-look headband, hair in slightly messy waves, minimal makeup. He wears navy or charcoal button-front pyjamas with neutral piping, house shoes and tousled hair. Add robes if it's outdoors. Mugs, a faux alarm clock, folded mission notes and earpieces explain the idea. I'd buy structured cotton or flannel sets, not thin satin, which clings and shows every line. It's a cosy domestic twist on the spy pair.
22. Mr And Mrs Smith Monochrome Black Costume

All-black is the easiest last-minute couple look on this list, and also the easiest to get flat. She wears a fitted black jumpsuit with a narrow belt, ankle boots and a structured mini bag, a high ponytail, soft smoky makeup and a nude lip. He wears a black turtleneck, tailored black trousers, a streamlined jacket, polished boots and a matte watch. I vary the textures, knit against twill against faux leather, so you don't look like two shadows in photos. Earpieces, slim flashlights and blank black notebooks are the props.
23. Mr And Mrs Smith Cream Neutral Costume

Cream and camel is the series' wardrobe in a nutshell. She wears a silk-look ivory blouse, camel wide-leg trousers, beige flats and a chocolate-brown shoulder bag, with a low knot and glowing skin. He pairs a cream knit with taupe trousers, a light brown overshirt and dark loafers, plus a simple watch. Faux travel papers, neutral folders and discreet earpieces keep the palette intact. It looks expensive, but thrifted separates in close colours do the job; I hold pieces next to each other in daylight, because store lighting makes beige and camel hard to judge.
24. Mr And Mrs Smith 1970s Spy Costume

A 1970s spy couple leans into the vintage thrillers that shaped modern spy style. She wears a rust turtleneck tucked into high-waisted flares, platform loafers and a belted tan coat, with soft volume in the hair and warm brown eye makeup. He combines an open-collar patterned shirt, a corduroy blazer, dark flares and brown derbies, with a side part and tinted glasses. A vintage camera, a paper map and small leather-look satchels are the props. Skip the big costume wigs, which tip it into parody. Corduroy is warm, so this is a cool-weather pick.
25. Mr And Mrs Smith 1990s Minimalist Costume

The 1990s minimalist version is quiet tailoring. She wears a black slip-style midi dress over a fitted short-sleeve top, square-toe shoes and a compact shoulder bag, with straight centre-parted hair and a brown-toned lip. He pairs a boxy black blazer with a white crewneck, straight trousers and minimal leather shoes, hair neat with little product. Narrow sunglasses, simple watches, faux pager clips and folded paper directions place the decade. It suits a couple who'd rather look like themselves than a character. A slip dress can be thin, so I check it isn't see-through over the tee before you leave.
26. Mr And Mrs Smith Last Minute Costume

Short on time? Matching black trousers and white shirts are enough. She knots or tucks a white button-down into black straight-leg pants, with pumps, a red lip and a smooth ponytail. He rolls the sleeves of his white shirt and pairs it with black trousers, a loosened tie and dress shoes, hair a bit messy for an end-of-mission feel. For earpieces, I curl a length of clear or silver cord around a pencil, then heat it gently with a hairdryer so it holds the coil. Print a pair of harmless ID cards, label blank folders with code names, and wear matching watches.
27. Mr And Mrs Smith Thrift Store Costume

A thrift store can supply nearly all of this. For her, look for a black midi dress, a neutral trench, low pumps and a structured bag; add loose waves and a red lip. For him, a dark suit, a white shirt, a vintage tie and polished lace-ups. The fit doesn't have to be perfect, since rolled sleeves and a loosened collar read as a long day on the job. Cheap sunglasses, costume jewellery, an old briefcase and repurposed wired earbuds finish it. Put blank paper in the case, not anything heavy. A jacket that's too big at the shoulders is the one thing I'd pass on, because that can't be hidden or altered cheaply.
28. Plus Size Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

Strong tailoring and stretch fabric make the spy pair work at any size. She chooses a black wrap jumpsuit with a defined waist, stretch fabric and tapered legs, plus supportive block-heel boots, statement earrings, smooth waves and a red lip. He wears a dark stretch blazer over an open-collar shirt, straight trousers and cushioned dress shoes. Pick jackets that button without pulling, or wear them open. I always sit down in a jumpsuit before deciding, since the rise is where most of them fail. Earpieces, faux passports and light crossbody bags carry the theme; the goal is moving freely, not hiding anyone.
29. Maternity Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

For a pregnant Mrs. Smith, comfort leads and the spy idea follows. She wears a stretchy black empire-waist midi with a light open trench, cushioned flats and a small crossbody, soft waves and a red lip. He wears a black suit, a white shirt and supportive dress shoes. A folder labelled "New Recruit" always gets a laugh. Avoid tight belts, heavy bags and unstable heels, and choose breathable fabric with layers you can take off. I'd tie the trench loosely above the bump rather than at the natural waist, which pulls and looks strained. Matching watches and subtle earpieces complete the pair.
30. Femme Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

Two women can split the couple into eveningwear and tailoring. One wears a fitted black midi dress, pointed pumps, a red lip and glossy waves. The other wears a sharp black pantsuit over a white satin-look blouse, loafers, a sleek bun and softly defined makeup. Matching earpieces, watches, faux IDs and structured bags link you. Keep the shapes different so each look has its own personality, while the black-and-white palette says you're a team. One red accent, a clutch or a scarf, is enough to tie it together. Each of you should pick the pieces that suit how you like to dress.
31. Masc Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

Two men can play it as formal and rugged. One wears a fitted black suit, a white shirt, a narrow tie, polished shoes and neat side-parted hair. The other wears a brown leather-look jacket over a cream knit, dark jeans, derbies and tousled hair. Matching watches and earpieces unify the pair, with faux passports, document envelopes and a vintage camera as props. One dressed-up look beside one relaxed look echoes how the film and the series dress the characters differently. No makeup or rigid roles needed, and every piece adapts to any body type.
32. Gender Neutral Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

A gender-neutral version drops the dress-and-suit split entirely. Both wear black mock-neck tops, straight utility trousers, light trench coats and comfortable ankle boots, with one camel coat and one charcoal so you're matched but not identical. Hair can be slicked back, natural or tucked under knit caps. Minimal makeup, with defined brows and a matte finish if you like. Crossbody document bags, clear earpieces, blank IDs and compact flashlights complete it. Keep away from big tactical gear that restricts movement. I'd have both trenches hemmed to the same length, which makes two different coats look planned.
33. Summer Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

Hot Halloween weather calls for fewer layers. She wears a sleeveless black midi with flat sandals, a light scarf and a compact bag, hair in a secure high ponytail and a transfer-resistant lip. He pairs a short-sleeve cream knit polo with light black trousers and breathable loafers, plus sunglasses. Matching canvas shoulder bags, faux passports and earpieces give enough spy detail without adding heat. Cotton and linen blends beat polyester here, which traps heat on a warm evening. It keeps both of you cool and still looks like an elegant assignment.
34. Winter Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

In cold weather, I make the coat part of the costume so nobody covers the outfit with an unrelated jacket. She layers a fitted black turtleneck and trousers under a belted wool-look coat, with leather gloves, knee-high boots and a sleek low bun. He wears a charcoal sweater, tailored pants, a long camel overcoat and lace-up boots, plus a neutral scarf. Discreet earpieces, faux travel papers and matching messenger bags finish it. Thermal base layers hide easily under both. It looks finished inside and out.
35. Rainy Weather Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

Wet nights call for waterproof layers that still look sharp. She wears a black knee-length raincoat over fitted trousers and a striped mock-neck, with sleek waterproof boots, a bun and simple makeup. He wears a navy raincoat, dark chinos, a grey sweater and black boots, with neat hair or a plain waterproof cap. Clear umbrellas, protected folders and water-resistant crossbody bags are the props. Raised collars frame the earpieces nicely. Paper props go limp in the rain, so I slip faux IDs and passports into clear plastic sleeves before leaving the house.
36. Mr And Mrs Smith Red And Black Costume

Red and black makes a bold couple without copying any one scene. She wears a red fitted jumpsuit with a narrow black belt, pointed black boots and a structured clutch, dark waves, defined liner and a red lip. He wears a black suit over a deep red shirt, polished black shoes and a simple watch, collar slightly open. Black earpieces, matching faux IDs and slim envelopes finish both. I aim for the same red family in both garments, since a cherry jumpsuit beside a wine shirt looks accidental. The repeated colour links you in a busy room.
37. Mr And Mrs Smith Navy And Ivory Costume

Navy and ivory is a softer alternative to all-black. She wears an ivory blouse with high-waisted navy trousers, pointed flats, a structured blue bag, a smooth low ponytail and polished neutral makeup. He layers a navy blazer over a cream knit, with ivory chinos and dark loafers. Matching navy passport holders, earpieces and folded itinerary cards build the story, and gold-tone watches add a refined finish. It looks dressed-up without feeling formal, and almost everything goes back into a work or weekend wardrobe the next day.
38. Mr And Mrs Smith Black And White Costume

High-contrast black and white makes a couple read as one unit fast. She wears a white fitted blouse with a black midi skirt, sheer tights, pointed pumps, loose waves and a red lip. He reverses it with a black shirt, a white dinner jacket, black trousers and polished loafers, plus a black pocket square. Matching earpieces, slim watches and monochrome folders strengthen the idea. Skip busy patterns. A white dinner jacket is the hardest piece to find, and a cream one is fine; I'd steer away from bright optical white, which glows oddly in photos.
39. Mr And Mrs Smith Wedding Guest Costume

Two unusually observant wedding guests is a good fit for a themed party that calls for occasion wear. She wears a jewel-tone midi, comfortable heels, a small clutch and delicate earrings, with a polished chignon and a berry lip. He wears a charcoal suit, a pale shirt, a patterned tie and polished shoes, with a pocket square that picks up her dress colour. Faux seating cards, a ceremony program and an envelope marked with a code name are the props. The tiny earpieces show you're working rather than attending. If you own a wedding-guest outfit already, this costs almost nothing.
40. Mr And Mrs Smith Backyard Disguise Costume

The backyard disguise turns the pair into friendly neighbours at a barbecue. She wears a gingham midi with a cropped cardigan, clean sneakers and a woven tote, a relaxed ponytail and light makeup. He wears a short-sleeve button-down, khaki chinos, a casual belt and brown sneakers, plus sunglasses. Serving bowls, paper napkins, recipe cards and a neighbourhood map with coded markings carry the joke, and small earpieces make the reveal. It's family-friendly and plays on the gap between their ordinary public life and their secret work. Use plastic bowls, not ceramic.
41. Mr And Mrs Smith Museum Costume

A museum assignment means cultured clothes and a lot of quiet looking around. She tucks a black turtleneck into a camel pleated midi skirt, with loafers, a structured shoulder bag, a low bun and natural makeup with defined liner. He pairs a navy blazer with a cream shirt, dark trousers, brown derbies and simple glasses. Both carry gallery brochures, small notebooks, pencils and earpieces, with a compact camera as an extra. A pleated skirt in a heavier fabric holds its pleats; thin ones collapse after an hour of sitting. No bulky gear needed.
42. Mr And Mrs Smith Celebrity Disguise Costume

Oversized sunglasses and long coats let the pair hide in plain sight like famous travellers. She wears a black midi under a long cream coat, knee-high boots, a patterned headscarf and big sunglasses, with a red lip. He wears a black turtleneck, tailored trousers, a camel coat, loafers and tinted glasses, hair smooth under a neutral cap. Faux event passes, travel wallets and earpieces are the props, and a folded magazine to hide behind is the funny one. I tie the headscarf under the chin and pin it at the back, or it slides off the moment you turn your head.
43. Mr And Mrs Smith Hotel Lobby Costume

A couple waiting for secret instructions in a hotel lobby is the subtlest look here. She wears a silk-look blouse, wide-leg black trousers, heeled loafers, a structured bag and pearl-look studs, with a smooth shoulder-length blowout. He wears a dark knit polo, tailored grey pants, a light blazer and polished shoes, plus a classic watch. Faux room keys, luggage tags, folded newspapers and small travel bags set the scene, with discreet earpieces. It's subtle enough for an elegant event, so lean on the props, which are what make strangers get it.
44. Senior Mr And Mrs Smith Costume

A senior couple brings real confidence to these characters. She wears a black wrap dress or a flowing pantsuit, comfortable block heels, a structured bag and silver statement earrings, with natural grey hair in a polished bob or soft updo and a red lip. He wears a charcoal suit, an open-collar white shirt, supportive leather shoes and a classic overcoat, plus an elegant watch. Faux passports, earpieces and travel folders make the idea clear. I'd never suggest covering grey hair for this; silver hair with a red lip and a sharp coat looks more like a seasoned spy, not less.
45. Mr And Mrs Smith Undercover Couple Costume

If you want one look that pulls the film and the series together, this is it. She wears a fitted black dress under a beige trench, sheer tights, ankle boots, a structured bag, loose dark waves and a red lip. He wears a black suit with an open-collar white shirt, polished shoes, a camel overcoat and neatly tousled hair. Give both matching earpieces, silver watches, faux passports and slim document folders. Then practise the attitude: a straight back, a slow scan of the room, never quite relaxing. That does more for the characters than any prop you could carry.
Spy Props That Read as Real but Stay Harmless
Almost every look above uses the same small kit, so it's worth making it well once and sharing it between you.
The coiled earpiece
This is the detail people notice first. Wind clear tubing or a thin cord around a pencil, warm it with a hairdryer, let it cool, then slide it off. Tuck one end into your collar and attach the other to a small clear earbud or a dot of skin-safe adhesive behind the ear. Old wired earbuds work too, though I'd cut off the plug so nobody tries to plug them in.
Passports, IDs and folders
Print plain covers with an invented country or agency name and slip them over an old notebook. Never copy a real government design or seal, which can cause trouble even at a party. Laminate ID cards or put them in clear sleeves so a spilled drink doesn't ruin them.
What to leave at home
Toy guns, even obvious ones, are banned at many venues, bars and schools, and they make strangers nervous on the walk there. Leave out heavy briefcases too. A folder, a watch and a coiled wire tell the same story and fit in a pocket when you want your hands free.
Two Earpieces and a Shared Colour Go a Long Way
Every version here comes back to the same three things: clothes that clearly belong together, tidy grooming and a few undercover details. Black dresses and tuxedos give you the film's glamour, while neutral travel layers, vintage jackets and loose tailoring belong to the series. You can shift any of them for heat, cold, rain, pregnancy, different sizes, gender-neutral dressing or a same-day plan. Keep the props light and harmless, wear shoes you can stand in, and choose pieces that fit well. Earpieces, faux passports, watches and document folders usually tell the story on their own. Start from what's already in both your closets, and the rest is posture.
