Dressing as a pair is most fun when both of you are recognizable and comfortable, and neither costume looks half-finished. Below are fifty couple ideas: classic characters, spooky pairs, food jokes, nostalgic duos and plenty of easy DIY. For each one I cover the clothing, hair, makeup, accessories, prop and shoes that make the pairing obvious. Swap roles freely, change colors, and pick the pieces that suit your bodies and your styles. Many of these come together from closet basics, thrift finds and simple craft supplies; others leave room for dramatic makeup or sharp tailoring. Cute, glamorous, creepy or clever, there's a pair here for the two of you.

Deciding Which Half Carries the Joke
In most of these pairs, one costume does more of the identifying than the other. Red Riding Hood's cape explains the wolf; the beekeeper only makes sense next to the bee. I'd plan around that before buying anything.
- Put the effort into the clearer half. If one costume needs a wig, a cape or a panel and the other is mostly clothes, spend your time and money on the first.
- Check that each costume still reads on its own. You will get separated at a party, and the person in tan should still look like toast or an archaeologist, not like someone who forgot to dress up.
- Share the comfort fairly. If one of you is in a foam panel and the other in jeans, the panel-wearer gets the chair and the coat check.
- Repeat one small detail across both, such as a color, a bow tie or a bandana. It's the cheapest way to make two outfits look planned.
Settle the roles early, too. Deciding who wears the heavier or warmer half is a lot easier in September than the night before.
1. Gomez And Morticia Addams Couple Costume

Gomez and Morticia are the most elegant gothic pair you can make, and almost all of it is silhouette. Morticia needs a long black dress with flared sleeves, a fitted body and a slight trailing hem; I'd keep the trail to a few inches, enough to pool, not enough to catch on stairs. Sleek center-parted black hair, smoky eyes, deep red lips and pointed black shoes. Gomez wears a black pinstripe suit, a white shirt, a dark tie and polished shoes, with slicked-back hair and a pencil mustache drawn in brow pencil. A faux rose is the one shared prop. Keep the palette to black, white and a touch of burgundy and the pair looks finished in every photo.
2. Barbie And Ken Couple Costume

Barbie and Ken live or die on a shared color story, so agree on it first. One of you wears a hot pink mini or midi dress, matching heels, a small handbag, sparkly earrings and smooth blonde waves or a wig, with fresh pink makeup and gloss. The other wears a pastel striped shirt, white shorts, a matching belt, sneakers and neat blonde hair. Sunglasses and a light beach accessory sell the sunny side. The pink cowboy version works too, with flared pants, a vest, boots and neck scarves. I'd pick one era and one shade of pink for both of you; two different pinks side by side look like a mistake.
3. Shrek And Fiona Couple Costume

Shrek and Fiona is a comfortable fairy-tale pair with a lot of humor in it. Shrek wears a cream tunic, a brown vest, plaid trousers, a wide belt and sturdy ankle boots. Add a bald cap or a close hood with green ogre ears, and soft green face makeup. Bald caps get hot and the edges lift by evening, so I'd use a snug hood instead if the party is indoors. Fiona wears a long green velvet-style dress, a braided red wig, a small crown, and flats or low boots; green makeup is optional, depending on which Fiona you want. A fabric-covered storybook makes a shared prop. Keep the ears light, and the earthy layers suit a cool October night.
4. Beetlejuice And Lydia Couple Costume

This pair works because the two outfits clash on purpose. Beetlejuice wears a black-and-white striped suit, a white shirt, black boots and a messy pale wig, with light makeup and gray shading around the eyes, stylized rather than frightening. Lydia wears a long red layered dress with sheer sleeves, dark ankle boots and a teased black wig or big natural hair, plus pale makeup, smudged liner and a vintage camera prop. Her black dress and wide-brim hat is the simpler route. For the suit, I'd stripe a thrifted white blazer and trousers with black fabric tape or paint rather than buy one; the stripes only need to be wide and bold.
5. Fred And Wilma Flintstone Couple Costume

Fred and Wilma are bright, loose and easy to sew from cheap fabric. Fred wears an orange spotted tunic, a blue necktie, dark shorts and brown sandals, with a short black wig or his own hair styled into a neat cartoon shape. Wilma wears a one-shoulder white dress, a chunky white bead necklace, white flats and a bright red updo or wig, with winged liner and coral lipstick. Felt spots and rough-cut hems give the handmade look. I cut those hems with pinking shears or zigzag scissors, because a straight cut looks too tidy for the Stone Age. A light foam club-shaped sign only if it reads as playful; otherwise go prop-free.
6. Danny And Sandy Grease Couple Costume

Danny and Sandy come almost entirely out of real clothes. Danny wears a fitted black T-shirt, black jeans, a leather or faux-leather jacket, a dark belt and black boots, with a glossy pompadour and a small comb in the pocket. A pompadour needs a strong pomade or firm gel and a blow-dry for height; hairspray alone collapses within an hour. Sandy can go for the finale: a black off-the-shoulder top, high-waisted fitted pants, red heels, gold hoops, big blonde curls, winged liner and red lipstick. The softer option is her yellow skirt, white blouse, cardigan and low pumps. Matching retro details tie the pair together without any props at all.
7. Fred And Daphne Scooby-Doo Couple Costume

Fred and Daphne read through their colors more than anything else: orange, purple, green and white. Fred wears a white sweater or long-sleeve shirt, blue trousers, an orange neck scarf, brown loafers and neat blonde hair. Daphne wears a long-sleeve purple mini dress, a green neck scarf, pink tights, purple flats or knee-high boots and a smooth red wig with a headband, with bright, simple makeup and pink lipstick. A magnifying glass and a notebook are optional props. I'd tie both scarves the same way, a small knot to one side, so the pair look like they come from the same cartoon. Stretchy fabrics make walking and dancing easier.
8. Shaggy And Velma Scooby-Doo Couple Costume

Shaggy and Velma suit a casual night because both come from relaxed separates. Shaggy wears a loose green T-shirt, brown flared pants, black sneakers and a shaggy brown wig or deliberately tousled hair. Velma needs an orange turtleneck, a red pleated skirt, orange knee socks, red flats, a short brown bob and thick black glasses. Natural makeup and a few freckles. Carry a magnifying glass, a notebook or a little box of pretend clues between you. Shaggy's shirt should look a size too big, so I'd borrow one from a taller friend rather than buy it. Sweaters and long pants hide extra layers, which makes this a warm pair for cold weather.
9. Alice And Mad Hatter Couple Costume

Alice and the Hatter work because one is plain and one is loud. Alice wears a pale blue knee-length dress, a white apron, white tights, black Mary Janes and a black ribbon headband, with soft blonde waves and rosy makeup. The Hatter gets a colorful tailcoat, a patterned vest, cropped trousers, striped socks, lace-ups and an oversized top hat, plus a curly orange wig, bright eye makeup and a big bow tie. Teacups or paper hats work as props; leave real china at home. Mix prints freely on the Hatter and keep Alice simple. That imbalance is the whole joke, and it's what makes them memorable together.
10. Peter Pan And Tinker Bell Couple Costume

Peter Pan and Tinker Bell make a green fairy-tale pair. Peter wears a green tunic, a brown belt, fitted green pants or leggings, a pointed felt cap and soft brown boots, with tousled hair and natural makeup. Tinker Bell wears a strapless or sleeveless green dress with a petal skirt, sheer wings, pale tights and green flats with white pom-poms, plus a high blonde bun and shimmering gold eyes. A small pouch and a star wand are safe props. Greens rarely match across shops, so I'd buy both pieces from the same fabric or store, or choose clearly different shades of leaf green on purpose. Keep the wings narrow for crowds.
11. Little Red Riding Hood And Big Bad Wolf Costume

This storybook pair can be sweet with just a hint of spooky. Red wears a red hooded cape over a white blouse and a black or gingham skirt, opaque tights and brown ankle boots, with braided or softly curled hair, rosy makeup and a wicker basket. The wolf wears gray trousers, a gray shirt, a faux-fur vest, a furry ear headband, a tail, gloves and dark boots, with gray face makeup at the temples, a painted black nose and light whiskers. Keep the ears and tail soft and light. A fur vest gets hot quickly, so the wolf will thank you for a thin T-shirt underneath. The red cape makes the pair obvious, and the layers handle an outdoor night.
12. Astronaut And Alien Couple Costume

An astronaut and an alien make an easy space pair. The astronaut wears a white utility jumpsuit trimmed with silver tape, printed space patches and a wide metallic belt, plus white sneakers, silver gloves and a light helmet built from clear craft materials. Keep the helmet open at the front; a closed dome fogs up and muffles everything. The alien wears a fitted metallic green or silver outfit, matching boots, an antenna headband and iridescent accessories, with a sleek ponytail or a smooth metallic hood, and green, blue and silver makeup around the eyes. A cardboard control panel is a fun shared prop. Metallic fabric traps heat, so you both need breathable layers underneath.
13. Bee And Beekeeper Couple Costume

A bee and beekeeper is cheerful and works with almost any wardrobe. The bee wears a black-and-yellow striped top with a black skirt, trousers or leggings, sheer wings, an antenna headband, yellow socks and black boots or sneakers, with golden shadow and a small painted nose. The beekeeper wears beige or white coveralls, work boots, gloves and a wide-brim hat with soft mesh. Carry a wooden honey dipper or a light bucket covered with paper bees. Indoors, I'd roll the mesh up onto the brim, since a full veil makes it hard to see, eat or talk. Yellow details on both outfits connect them, and the practical shoes handle a long walk or a night on candy duty.
14. Mermaid And Sailor Couple Costume

A mermaid and a sailor bring color and texture to a nautical pair. The mermaid wears an iridescent fitted skirt, a shell-style top over a modest base, pearls and metallic flats or ankle boots, with long waves, small faux shells, blue-green eye makeup and a few face gems. The sailor wears navy trousers, a striped shirt, a white sailor cap, a neck scarf and white sneakers. A coil of soft cord or a cardboard anchor sign is a harmless prop. Repeat navy and turquoise across both outfits. A fitted skirt needs a slit or real stretch. I always sit down in one before deciding, because a skirt that's fine standing can be impossible in a car.
15. Classic Vampire Couple Costume

A vampire couple is the dressiest pair on this list. One partner wears a long black dress, a velvet cape, lace gloves, pointed ankle boots and dark jewelry. The other wears black trousers, a white ruffled shirt, a fitted vest, a long cape and polished boots. Both keep the hair neat: a sleek updo, long waves or a subtle widow's peak drawn with brow pencil. Pale foundation, smoky eyes, strong brows and a deep berry lip, with small fangs. Red satin lining in both capes adds a controlled flash of color. Two long capes side by side tangle easily, so I'd cut one a little shorter than the other, and keep both off the floor.
16. Matching Skeleton Couple Costume

Matching skeletons are simple and easy to personalize. Both of you wear black jumpsuits, dresses or separates with white bones in fabric paint or iron-on shapes, plus black sneakers or ankle boots. Iron-on bones crack if you fold the garment while it's still warm, so let them cool flat. Black-and-white face makeup suggests a skull: hollowed eyes, a dark nose and tidy tooth lines, nothing gory. One partner might add a tulle skirt and the other a tailored blazer over the print. Silver hair spray or slicked-back hair, and matching bone gloves. Reflective paint on a few of the bones helps outdoors at night.
17. Witch And Wizard Couple Costume

A witch and wizard feel magical without any dark ritual imagery. The witch wears a long black or purple dress, a velvet cape, a pointed hat, striped tights and buckled ankle boots, with soft curls, purple eye makeup and a small broom. The wizard wears a navy robe scattered with silver stars, a belted tunic, a pointed hat, dark trousers and sturdy boots. A long gray wig and beard are optional. Costume beards itch and get in the way of eating, so I'd pick one on elastic ear loops that slips down to the chin easily. A cardboard star-tipped staff is a safe prop. Purple, blue and silver tie you together, and the loose robes hide warm layers.
18. Matching Ghost Couple Costume

Two ghosts can look polished rather than like two bedsheets. Start with flowing white ponchos, dresses or oversized tunics over white leggings or trousers. If any fabric goes over the head, cut clean eye holes; better still, keep faces visible with white hoods and soft tulle veils. White sneakers, pale gloves and silver accessories. Pearly face makeup, gray shadow and white hair spray. Paper chains or small lantern props add interest. I'd give each of you a different shape, one in a poncho and one in a dress, so the pair look designed. Reflective trim along the hems makes you easier to see outside and catches the light softly.
19. Mummy And Archaeologist Couple Costume

A mummy and an archaeologist pair a classic monster with an explorer. The mummy wears beige leggings and a long-sleeve top wrapped loosely with distressed cotton strips, beige sneakers, dusty neutral makeup and messy hair with temporary white streaks. I tear old cotton sheets into strips, dip them in tea to age them, then tack each strip at both ends so nothing trails underfoot. The archaeologist wears khaki trousers or shorts, a utility shirt, brown boots, a wide-brim hat and a crossbody satchel, with a notebook, a soft brush and a cardboard map. A little brown makeup on the cheeks looks weathered. Sand tones connect the two, and thrifted basics cover nearly all of it.
20. Frankenstein Monster And Bride Couple Costume

The monster and his bride are classic Halloween with no gore needed. The monster wears a dark blazer, a distressed green shirt, cropped black trousers and heavy platform-style boots, with flat-top black hair, green face makeup, strong brows and light foam neck bolts. The bride wears a long white dress, a gauzy wrap, white shoes and a tall black wig with bold white streaks, plus pale foundation, dramatic liner and a deep lip. Her tall hair is the hardest part; I'd build it over a foam cone pinned to the crown, then fit the wig over the top. Skip torn fabric that drags. Let the hair shapes and contrasting outfits do the identifying.
21. Werewolf And Full Moon Couple Costume

The werewolf and the full moon turn a transformation into a joke you can wear. The werewolf wears torn-edge plaid over a brown shirt, dark jeans, faux-fur gloves, furry ears, a tail and rugged boots, with brown face makeup, strong brows, a painted nose and tousled hair. The moon wears a silver or pale gray dress, jumpsuit or separates with white shoes, and either a light circular moon panel on the torso or a silver cape with crater shading. Shimmery makeup and silver hair accessories. I'd sponge the craters on with gray fabric paint in uneven circles, darker on one edge. Keep it soft and stylized, and let blue-gray accents in both outfits tie the night palette together.
22. Pumpkin And Scarecrow Couple Costume

A pumpkin and a scarecrow are the most autumnal pair here. The pumpkin wears an orange dress, sweatshirt or jumpsuit with black felt face shapes and green leaves at the collar, orange tights, brown boots, green hair ribbons and warm copper makeup. The scarecrow layers denim overalls over plaid, with a floppy straw hat, work boots and raffia at the cuffs, plus stitched makeup lines and an orange nose. A small basket of faux leaves is a shared prop. Raffia sheds less than real straw and doesn't scratch, which is why I use it. Keep loose fibers away from faces and food. The orange, denim and plaid suit every age.
23. Black Cat And Mouse Couple Costume

A black cat and a mouse are cute and comfortable all night. The cat wears a fitted black top with black trousers, leggings or a skirt, ears, a soft tail and black ankle boots, plus winged liner, whiskers and a painted nose. The mouse wears gray overalls or a gray dress over a pale pink shirt, round ears, a thin fabric tail, pink sneakers and rosy makeup with fine whiskers. An oversized wedge of cheese cut from yellow foam is the prop; I punch holes in it with a round cutter so it reads from far away. Matching bow ties or collars link you. Fix both tails securely so they don't catch on chairs or other guests.
24. Ringmaster And Lion Couple Costume

A ringmaster and a lion give you a bold circus pair. The ringmaster wears black trousers, a white shirt, a red tailcoat with gold trim, tall black boots and a small top hat, with defined liner and neat hair. The lion wears a tan jumpsuit, dress or separates with brown boots, furry cuffs, ears and a flexible tail, plus golden makeup and a painted nose. The mane is the key piece. I'd knot yarn onto a stretchy headband or a hood edge so it frames the face without covering it, since a full fur mane gets hot fast indoors. A ribbon-wrapped hoop is a safe shared prop. Red and gold on both costumes unify the duo.
25. Cowboy And Cowgirl Couple Costume

A Western pair is stylish and built from clothes you'll wear again. Both of you wear jeans, plaid or plain button-downs, Western belts and comfortable boots. Give one partner a suede-look vest and the other a denim skirt or fringed jacket for variety. Add wide-brim hats, neck scarves and cardboard sheriff stars. Hair braided, waved or combed neatly under the hats. Natural makeup with warm bronzer. Skip toy guns and carry a lasso made from soft cord instead. Matching bandanas tie you together, and I'd keep the leather tones close, brown belts with brown boots and black with black, so the pair look planned.
26. Pirate And Mermaid Couple Costume

A pirate and a mermaid mix rough layers with ocean shimmer. The pirate wears black trousers, a loose white shirt, a striped vest, a waist sash, tall boots and a tricorn-style hat, with smudged liner, tousled hair and a rolled cardboard map. The mermaid wears a teal scale-print skirt, a fitted purple or blue top over a modest base, metallic flats, pearls and long waves with faux shells, plus turquoise and lavender makeup. A small fabric treasure pouch replaces any weapon. Gold accents connect you. A sash comes undone constantly, so I tuck its ends under the belt and add one safety pin from the inside. The mermaid skirt needs enough stretch to walk.
27. Detective And Mystery Suspect Couple Costume

A detective and a suspect make a pair that starts conversations. The detective wears a tan trench over dark trousers and a button-down, with loafers, a brimmed hat and a magnifying glass, plus neat hair and a little under-eye shading. The suspect wears a jewel-tone midi dress or a tailored suit with dress shoes, elegant hair and polished vintage makeup. A faux invitation, a feather-free fan or a costume jewelry box serves as the clue. No crime props are needed for the joke to land. Add matching paper name tags labeled Detective and Suspect. I like this one because it suits any two people and most of it is already in a closet.
28. Chef And Spaghetti Couple Costume

A chef and a plate of spaghetti is a playful DIY pair. The chef wears checked trousers, a white jacket or button-down, white sneakers, a neck scarf, an apron and a tall fabric hat, with natural makeup and a big light spoon. The spaghetti wears a red dress, or a red shirt with trousers, covered in loops of cream yarn for noodles, with brown pom-pom meatballs and a light cardboard plate at the waist if it's comfortable. Red shoes and a small tomato headband. Yarn loops snag on everything, so I keep them short and stitch each one down at the top. The red-and-white palette makes the idea clear straight away.
29. Peanut Butter And Jelly Couple Costume

Peanut butter and jelly is the classic last-minute food pair. Both of you wear neutral trousers or leggings with sneakers. One adds a tan T-shirt or tunic labeled Peanut Butter, the other a purple or berry-red one labeled Jelly. Bread-slice panels cut from tan felt or painted foam board hang from shoulder straps, with matching tan caps or headbands. Natural makeup, or a soft brown and berry shadow for a subtle link. Keep the panels flexible and narrow enough for doorways. I'd draw the crust as a darker band around the edge; without it, the slices look like plain beige squares. Side by side, the two halves should close into one sandwich.
30. Milk And Cookie Couple Costume

Milk and a cookie is a sweet, easy pair from comfortable basics. The milk partner wears all white, white sneakers and a rectangular carton panel cut from light foam board, plus a white cap, a few soft blue accents and rosy natural makeup. The cookie wears brown trousers or a brown dress with darker felt chips, brown sneakers, a round cookie headpiece and warm bronze makeup. Fix a reusable straw to the carton for detail. Keep both panels above the knee. I score the foam board on the back and bend it slightly so the carton wraps around the body instead of sticking out flat. A little blue-and-white trim on the cookie links the two of you.
31. Ketchup And Mustard Couple Costume

Ketchup and mustard are quick, cheap and comfortable. One of you wears all red with a pointed red cap, a white label panel and red sneakers; the other copies the arrangement in yellow, with a yellow top, trousers or skirt, a cone cap and matching shoes. Write Ketchup and Mustard clearly on removable fabric or cardboard labels. Clean makeup with red or golden liner, and white gloves as another shared detail. Make the caps from felt rather than card, because a stiff cone pokes whoever stands next to you. The labels shouldn't restrict your arms. It suits a casual party or an outdoor event.
32. Avocado And Toast Couple Costume

Avocado and toast is a cheerful food pair built from simple felt shapes. The avocado wears green leggings and a green shirt under a pear-shaped foam or felt panel with a brown pit in the middle, plus a leafy headband, green sneakers and fresh green eye makeup. The toast wears tan clothing, brown shoes and a bread-shaped panel with a darker crust. Small felt toppings, tomato slices or greens, add color. Use two greens on the avocado, a pale one for the flesh and a dark one for the skin edge, or it looks like a green blob. Light panels on adjustable straps let you both sit, walk and dance.
33. Taco And Hot Sauce Couple Costume

A taco and hot sauce bring bold color. The taco partner wears brown or tan under a curved shell-shaped tunic, with felt lettuce, cheese and tomato around the top, yellow sneakers and a small leafy headband. The hot sauce wears bright red with a green cap, a white label panel, red shoes and warm red-orange makeup. Use a generic label rather than copying a brand. Make the shell from flexible felt or thin foam so it isn't bulky. I cut the lettuce with pinking shears and layer it in two greens so it ruffles. The bottle can be a simple rectangular tunic. Together it's colorful and easy to read.
34. Salt And Pepper Couple Costume

Salt and pepper is a minimal pair with strong contrast. One of you dresses all in white, the other in black or charcoal. Matching cylindrical tunics in light fabric carry a big S or P, and the shaker tops are silver caps or headbands dotted with black circles. White and black sneakers. Salt wears pearly makeup and white hair spray; pepper adds smoky eyes and dark temporary hair color. Silver gloves tie the two together. White hair spray flakes onto dark clothing, so salt should spray before dressing while pepper stands well clear. Keep the tunics loose enough to sit in, and the whole thing comes from basics.
35. Sun And Moon Couple Costume

A sun and a moon suit almost any two styles. The sun wears a gold or yellow dress, suit or jumpsuit with metallic shoes and a headpiece of light gold rays, plus warm gold shadow, highlighter and soft waves. The moon wears silver or navy with small stars, silver boots and a crescent headband, cool shimmer and sleek hair. A shared dark blue cape covered in tiny stars can drape over both of you for photos. Keep headpieces narrow and firmly fixed. A wide ray crown and a crescent clash when you lean in together, so I'd keep the sun's rays short at the side that faces the moon.
36. Cloud And Rainbow Couple Costume

A cloud and a rainbow bring softness and color to a family-friendly pair. The cloud wears a white sweatshirt, white trousers and white sneakers with clusters of synthetic batting, plus a silver headband, pearly makeup and optional blue ribbon raindrops above the knee. The rainbow wears a striped multicolor dress, a sweater with trousers, or a layered tulle skirt, with colorful sneakers, rainbow eye makeup and bright clips. A curved felt rainbow can sit across the torso without limiting movement. Add a few white cloud tufts to the rainbow so you look connected. Batting burns easily and sheds, so stitch it down well and keep it away from faces, food and candles.
37. Fire And Ice Couple Costume

Fire and ice is a color pair with no character details to get wrong. Fire wears red, orange and yellow with layered fabric cut into stylized flames, red boots, warm metallic makeup and hair swept up with temporary orange color. Ice wears a pale blue or silver dress, suit or jumpsuit with crystal-like trim, silver shoes, cool blue makeup and a sleek white or silver wig. Light foam crowns reinforce both themes. Avoid sharp plastic edges and long trailing pieces. Chiffon or organza layers make flames move; felt flames hang stiff. Choose similar garment shapes so the two palettes still look coordinated in photos.
38. Day And Night Couple Costume

Day and night show opposite halves of the sky. Day wears pale blue with white clouds and yellow sun accents, white sneakers, fresh makeup, a gold headband and soft curls. Night wears navy or black covered in silver stars and crescent moons, silver shoes and shimmery eyes. A dark blue cape gives movement without a bulky prop. Match the garment shapes, two jumpsuits or two dresses, so you read as halves of one idea. Small LED lights can go in if they stay cool and enclosed. I'd use large fabric stars on the night side, because tiny sequin stars on dark fabric look like specks from across a room.
39. Plug And Socket Couple Costume

A plug and socket is a clever DIY pair that needs clean graphic shapes. Both of you wear black shirts, trousers and sneakers under light foam-board tunics, one showing a big plug with soft foam prongs, the other a matching outlet. Silver, white and gray paint keep the graphics visible. Metallic face makeup and slick hair. The cord can be a flexible black fabric tube held above the floor. No real electrical parts and nothing rigid sticking out. I make the prongs from pool noodle offcuts wrapped in silver tape; they squash instead of bruising anyone. Standing together completes the joke.
40. Tooth Fairy And Tooth Couple Costume

A tooth fairy and a tooth is clean and lighthearted. The fairy wears a pale blue or white dress, sheer wings, silver flats, sparkly eye makeup and a neat bun or soft curls, with a star wand and a small pouch decorated with teeth. The tooth wears white leggings and a white long-sleeve shirt under a rounded tooth-shaped tunic in felt or foam, white sneakers, a silver bow tie and bright natural makeup. A tiny crown is a sweet touch. Two felt layers with a little batting between them give the tooth shape without weight. Keep the wings compact, and put silver on both so you don't look like two unrelated white outfits.
41. Magician And Rabbit Couple Costume

A magician and a rabbit have old stage-show charm and need almost no props. The magician wears black trousers, a white shirt, a fitted black jacket, a red bow tie, a cape, polished shoes and a tall top hat, with neat hair and natural makeup. The rabbit wears a white dress, a jumpsuit or a sweater with trousers, soft bunny ears, a fluffy tail, white gloves and white sneakers, with pink cheeks and nose and fine whiskers. A collapsible hat is a fun shared accessory. Long bunny ears flop, so I slip a pipe cleaner or floral wire into each one. Matching red bow ties link the two, and it suits any two people.
42. Gardener And Flower Couple Costume

A gardener and a flower bring cheerful color and lots of DIY room. The gardener wears denim overalls over a plaid or green shirt, work boots, gardening gloves and a straw hat, with natural makeup and a clean, empty watering can. The flower wears a green top and leggings with a colorful petal collar around the face, green shoes, leafy wrist cuffs and a headband of light fabric petals, with shadow to match the flower. The collar should sit below the jawline and out of your side vision; I build it on a stiff felt ring that rests on the shoulders. Small matching flowers on the gardener's hat connect you, and it's good for daytime parties.
43. Painter And Canvas Couple Costume

A painter and canvas is art you can wear. The painter wears white overalls or a loose smock splashed with fabric paint, a striped shirt, a beret, sneakers and a light palette, with a few bright makeup dots. The canvas wears white under a rectangular fabric frame painted with a landscape, portrait or abstract, white shoes and makeup that echoes the painting. Build the frame from foam tubing, not wood. A matching painted scarf links you. I'd paint the canvas together the weekend before, using the same three or four colors on the smock, so the pair are clearly made by the same hands.
44. Clark Kent And Lois Lane Couple Costume

Clark Kent and Lois Lane is a superhero pair you can make from workwear. Clark wears dark trousers and a white button-down opened slightly to show a blue superhero top underneath, with a loose tie, black glasses, polished shoes and neatly combed dark hair. Lois wears a tailored skirt or trousers, a blouse, a fitted blazer, pumps or loafers and a press badge, carrying a notebook and a rolled newspaper, with defined eyes and a neutral lip. Vintage outerwear handles cold weather. I'd have Clark fasten only the lowest buttons so the reveal stays visible all night. The newsroom clothes and the hidden layer tell the story without masks or capes.
45. Superman And Wonder Woman Couple Costume

Superman and Wonder Woman have strong, familiar outlines. Superman wears a fitted blue top and trousers, red boots, a yellow belt and a red cape, with a small curl at the forehead. Wonder Woman wears a red structured top over a comfortable base, a blue skirt or trousers with stars, red boots, gold cuffs and a gold headband, with polished waves, red lips and defined liner. Fabric accessories beat hard plastic. Red boots are rarely in anyone's closet, so I'd sew boot covers from red stretch fabric to pull over sneakers. Red, blue and gold unify you. Keep the capes short enough that neither of you steps on one in a crowd.
46. Harley Quinn And Joker Couple Costume

Harley Quinn and the Joker can be colorful and nonviolent. Harley wears a red-and-black jacket, a matching skirt or shorts over opaque tights, lace-up boots and high pigtails with colored tips, plus graphic liner and a bold red lip, with no weapon props. The Joker wears a purple suit over a green vest and patterned shirt, dark dress shoes and slick green hair, with pale makeup, defined brows and a wide painted smile but no scars. Playing-card accessories or a deck-shaped clutch are safe touches. A painted smile smears the moment you eat, so I'd set it with powder and carry a cotton bud for touch-ups. Red, green, purple and black repeat across both.
47. Woody And Bo Peep Couple Costume

Woody and Bo Peep pair Western pieces with pastels. Woody wears jeans, a yellow checked shirt, a cow-print vest, a red neck scarf, brown boots, a belt and a cowboy hat, with neat brown hair. Bo Peep wears a pale blue jumpsuit or a full skirt with a fitted bodice, a pink cape, a matching hair bow and blue flats or boots, with a tidy blonde updo and fresh pink makeup. A short foam crook is fine if it stays compact. If you can't find a cow-print vest, white felt and a black fabric marker make one in an evening. A little blue ribbon on Woody ties the two together.
48. Buzz Lightyear And Jessie Couple Costume

Buzz Lightyear and Jessie are bright and full of energy. Buzz wears a white jumpsuit or white separates with green and purple fabric panels, white sneakers, a purple hood, silver gloves and a light foam chest panel with colored buttons. Jessie wears blue jeans, a white Western shirt with yellow trim, cow-print cuffs, a red hat, a red braided wig or yarn braid and brown boots, with rosy makeup and painted freckles. Skip bulky wings indoors; a flat fabric version is easier. A yarn braid sits better if you sew it to a ribbon and tie it on under the hat. Green or purple touches on Jessie connect you.
49. Coraline And Wybie Couple Costume

Coraline and Wybie suit cold, wet October nights. Coraline wears a yellow raincoat over dark leggings and a striped shirt, with yellow rain boots, a short blue bob wig, natural makeup and a small fabric satchel. Wybie wears dark jeans, black boots, a dark jacket, protective-style gloves and a striped or graphic shirt, with short dark hair and softly shaded makeup. A handmade doll with ordinary sewn eyes can be Coraline's prop, and Wybie carries a messenger bag. Skip unsettling eye effects. The raincoat earns its place twice: it's the focal point of the pair, and on a rainy night it's one costume that actually improves when wet.
50. Wednesday And Enid Couple Costume

Wednesday and Enid make a friendship pair built on two opposite school looks. Wednesday wears a black dress with a crisp white collar, black tights, chunky loafers and two long dark braids, with pale makeup, straight brows and a muted lip. Enid wears a pastel striped sweater, a colorful pleated skirt, bright tights, platform sneakers and a blonde wig with pink and blue ends, plus multicolor eye makeup and pastel nails. Matching school badges or small backpacks connect you. I'd keep both neat and wearable rather than theatrical. The clash of monochrome and rainbow is what people notice first, and the sweater and tights keep you warm.
Building a Food Panel You Can Sit Down In
Peanut butter and jelly, milk and cookie, avocado and toast, the taco, salt and pepper, plug and socket: a lot of these pairs hang on a wearable panel. Here is how I build one that lasts a whole party.
Material
Foam board is lighter than cardboard and doesn't go soft in damp air. Felt over a thin foam sheet is softer again and folds when you sit. Corrugated cardboard is fine for a short indoor evening, but it sags in rain and creases the first time someone bumps into you.
Size and fit
Measure from your collarbone to just above the knee, and keep the width to your shoulders plus a hand's width on each side. Anything bigger catches in doorways and stops you sitting. Round all four corners with scissors before you paint.
Straps
Use wide ribbon or elastic over the shoulders, not string, which cuts in within an hour. Glue the straps on, then reinforce each one with a strip of duct tape across the back. Paint before the straps go on and let it dry completely, so it doesn't print onto your partner when you stand close for photos.
A Pair Should Still Make Sense at Midnight
The pairs that work best have one clear theme and pieces both of you are happy to wear for hours. Characters are recognized fastest; food, sky and pun pairs give you more freedom. Start with clothes you already own, then add the signature colors, the hair, the makeup, the shoes and one useful prop. You don't need to match every detail as long as the outlines and colors tell the story. Swap roles, resize, and adjust for any bodies, mobility needs or weather. Choose something that reflects what the two of you actually like, and you'll still be enjoying it at the end of the night.
