Childe is a gift to sew because his outline does so much of the work: sharp gray tailoring, fiery orange hair, a red scarf and little flashes of water blue. Tartaglia is a Hydro character and one of the Fatui Harbingers, raised in snowy Snezhnaya, and that background gives you plenty of room for alternate versions. I’ve pulled together thirty of them, from the accurate uniform and his transformation forms to winter coats, suits, school and café takes and builds you can make from a thrift run. For each one I cover the clothes, wig, makeup, props and shoes, and where a build tends to go wrong.

Making Childe’s Red Scarf Hang the Way It Should
The red scarf is the single piece that turns a gray jacket into Childe, and it’s the piece most people get wrong. Bought scarves are usually knit or fleece, and they bunch up into a thick roll at the neck instead of falling in a long, loose drape.
- Sew your own from a fabric with weight and drape: a polyester crepe, a soft wool blend for the winter looks, or a satin-backed crepe for the formal ones.
- Cut it longer than you think. You want the tail to fall well past the waist on one side once it’s wrapped.
- A narrow rolled hem keeps the edges light. A bulky folded hem makes the scarf stiff and it stops swinging.
- Anchor it with a snap or a small safety pin hidden under the shoulder. Otherwise it slides round to the back within an hour and you keep having to fix it in every photo.
For the summer and pajama versions, where a full scarf would be too hot, a ribbon or a thin bias-cut strip in the same red keeps the color without the weight.
Cutting and Setting a Short Orange Wig
His hair is short, layered and slightly messy, with bangs swept to one side, and a wig straight from the bag almost never looks like that. A wig that’s a little longer than you need gives you room to cut.
I put the wig on a head form pinned at your head size and trim the bangs dry, with the scissor tips pointing up into the hair. Those small vertical point cuts break up a blunt line so the ends look feathered rather than chopped. Take off a little at a time and check from a few steps back, because synthetic fiber doesn’t grow back.
Check the label before using heat. Heat-resistant fiber can take a low setting on a hair dryer or a cool flat iron to bend the bangs into place, but standard synthetic wigs frizz or melt near heat, so set those with water, clips and a firm wig spray instead. Spikes for the transformation looks hold best when you twist small sections and lock them with spray, rather than piling on product.
1. Classic Fatui Childe Cosplay

The classic uniform lives or dies on the jacket fabric. I look for a gray twill or gabardine with enough body to hold the cut but enough give to lift your arms, because a stiff costume-satin jacket rides up every time you reach. Pair it with the asymmetrical red scarf, dark trousers and gray boots, then add silver trim, red piping, fitted gloves and a blue Hydro Vision at the hip. His wig is short and layered with swept bangs and a slightly tousled crown. A matte base, soft brown contour, straight brows and cool blue-gray shadow keep him young. Colored contacts are optional, and only ever ones fitted for your eyes. The red Fatui mask sits at the side of the head, and a small clear water-effect prop finishes it.
2. Delusion Unleashed Childe Cosplay

The Delusion version darkens the palette without changing the cut. I swap to a charcoal jacket, black trousers, a deep red scarf and knee-high black boots, then add angular burgundy panels, metallic gray trim and violet accents for the Electro power. Spike the wig sharper and messier than the standard style. Smoky plum shadow, defined brows and a thin line of purple shimmer at the temples keep it theatrical rather than scary. For the energy orb, a clear plastic ornament packed with cellophane and a small battery light is far lighter than resin, and you won’t mind holding it up for photos all afternoon. A dark metallic mask beside the wig ties it back to the Fatui.
3. Foul Legacy Childe Cosplay

Foul Legacy is the big build, and I’d only take it on if you already enjoy foam work. EVA foam handles the pointed shoulders, chest plating, forearm guards, hip panels and boot covers, and it heat-shapes into curves with a heat gun in a way thin craft foam simply can’t. Mount every plate on stretch fabric rather than gluing plates to each other, or you lose the ability to bend and sit. A smooth purple helmet or hood with curved details and a glowing face panel covers the wig, with violet makeup on any visible skin. Back fins and a translucent cape that moves like water add drama. Platform boots, gloves and a soft lit Hydro orb finish it, and leaving out any hard weapon keeps it event-friendly.
4. Winter Fatui Coat Childe Cosplay

Picture Childe home in Snezhnaya, in a long white-and-gray military coat with plush faux-fur trim. It layers over a charcoal turtleneck, tailored dark pants and insulated knee-high boots, with red lining, silver clasps and a long crimson scarf carrying his colors. Faux fur sheds badly at cut edges, so I cut it from the back with a blade through the backing only and shake it out outdoors before sewing. Tuck a few strands of a layered orange wig under a gray fur hat, and keep makeup cool with rosy winter blush and soft gray shadow. The Hydro Vision goes on a silver belt or shoulder chain, and a folded letter to his siblings or a small snow globe makes a gentle prop. It’s the one I’d wear outdoors in real cold.
5. Harbinger Meeting Childe Cosplay

The Harbinger meeting look should feel commanding while still letting you sit through a long day. A long white military coat with black lapels, red lining, silver shoulder ornaments and faux-fur trim goes over a fitted black shirt, gray trousers and polished riding boots. White shows every mark, so I pretreat the cuffs and hem with fabric protector and pack a stain pen. Sweep the wig neatly back but leave his uneven bangs visible. A satin complexion, stronger contour and cool gray shadow give the composed expression. The red mask at the side of the head, a blue Vision at the waist, fitted black gloves, a silver document folder and a Harbinger brooch carry the rank.
6. Modern Streetwear Childe Cosplay

Streetwear Childe is the version you can actually wear on the train. A fitted gray bomber goes over a black mock-neck, slim charcoal cargo pants and clean gray high-tops, with a narrow red scarf at the neck and silver hardware on the jacket and belt. A short textured orange wig works, or natural red hair styled into his swept shape. Keep makeup light: a little contour, cool blue shadow, tidy brows. Clip a simple Hydro Vision charm to a crossbody bag. A red mask-shaped phone case, a clear blue water bottle and a whale keychain are small enough to carry all day and still read as him.
7. Liyue Streetwear Childe Cosplay

The Liyue take mixes his Fatui colors with details from the harbor city. A cropped gray jacket with red knot closures goes over a fitted black shirt and tapered dark pants, with black ankle boots, silver buckles and a wide belt for the Vision. Knot closures are easy to make from rattail cord or a bias tube, and I sew them on by hand so they sit flat. Keep the wig short and tousled with longer face-framing pieces, and use soft brown contour, blue liner and a touch of gold at the inner eye. Add patterned red cuffs and subtle cloud or wave motifs, but stay away from copying ceremonial dress. A coin pouch, paper shopping bag and the mask beside the wig finish the story.
8. Snezhnaya Explorer Childe Cosplay

This fan-designed explorer version is pure cold-weather layering. A charcoal quilted tunic, gray snow pants, a belted white parka and sturdy black winter boots form the base, with a long red scarf, silver clasps, faux-fur cuffs and pale blue stitching that hints at ice. A gray earflap hat sits loosely over a windblown orange wig. Wig caps under a hat get warm, so I’d choose a short wig with a thin wefted cap. Soft matte makeup, pink across the nose and cool blue shadow suit the snow. A weathered shoulder bag carries the Vision, a rolled map, a compass and a metal-look travel cup, and thermal layers underneath keep you comfortable through an outdoor shoot.
9. Summer Festival Childe Cosplay

Summer festival Childe drops the layers for hot weather. A gray short-sleeve wrap top with red trim and loose black cropped pants are cinched with a wide silver-and-black belt holding a small Vision. Dark sandals or light ankle boots work, depending on the event’s footwear rules. Give the wig softer waves and side-swept bangs. In heat, I skip full foundation and use tinted moisturizer, waterproof brown liner and a little blue shimmer, since heavy base slides off by noon. A red ribbon at the neck stands in for the scarf. A paper fan with water patterns, a festival pouch and a translucent blue orb are your Hydro props.
10. School Uniform Childe Cosplay

The school AU is one of the easiest Childe looks to put together from everyday pieces. A gray blazer, crisp white shirt, black tailored pants and polished lace-ups form the uniform, with a narrow red scarf or red striped tie standing in for his original scarf. Silver piping on the cuffs is a quick add: a strip of bias-cut lamé or ribbon stitched along the sleeve edge. Keep the wig neat but textured, with his side-swept bangs. Natural makeup, defined cheekbones, straight brows and cool blue liner give the anime finish. A blue notebook, a whale pencil case and the red mask hanging from the school bag carry the character into the classroom.
11. Café Server Childe Cosplay

Café Childe is a good choice if you want to look sharp but stay comfortable. A gray button-up, fitted black vest, dark trousers and a deep red waist apron make the uniform, with silver buttons and pale blue piping for the Hydro link. Wear black non-slip shoes if you’ll be on your feet for hours. Style the wig into controlled layers and set the longer sections with wig spray so they don’t drift into your eyes. Fresh makeup with light contour, warm blush and a thin sweep of blue liner suits the friendly mood. Pin the Vision to the apron, wear the mask as a shoulder accessory, and carry a plastic tray, blue paper cups and a whale-shaped menu card.
12. Masquerade Childe Cosplay

The masquerade version shows his secretive, elegant side. A fitted gray brocade tailcoat goes over a black waistcoat, slim trousers and knee-high boots, with a red satin sash, silver shoulder chains and blue crystal-style buttons. Brocade frays fast, so I overlock or zigzag every raw edge before construction. Sweep the wig back formally, leaving a few loose strands at the forehead. Luminous skin, sculpted cheekbones, smoky navy shadow and silver highlights near the eyes fit the evening. Turn the Fatui mask into an ornate red-and-silver masquerade piece on a stick or clip, and add a jeweled Vision on the sash, gray gloves and a sealed invitation.
13. Royal Prince Childe Cosplay

Childe makes a surprisingly natural fantasy prince. A long gray coat with silver embroidery goes over a fitted black tunic and narrow dark trousers, with a red shoulder cape, blue gemstones and tall polished boots. If you’re embroidering yourself, a tear-away stabilizer under the coat fabric stops the stitches from puckering. Add volume at the wig crown but keep the bangs casual so he doesn’t look too stiff. Clean skin, soft contour, blue-gray shadow and a little silver highlight do the face. A small silver circlet is far kinder on a wig than a heavy crown. A decorative belt holds the Vision, and white gloves, a rolled royal message and a plush whale finish it.
14. Pirate Captain Childe Cosplay

Pirate Childe suits his bold personality, and none of it needs a real weapon. A gray captain’s coat with red lapels, silver buttons and a split hem goes over a black ruffled shirt, fitted pants and knee-high buckled boots. A tricorn hat crushes a short wig flat, so I stitch two small combs inside the brim to hold it without pressing down. Add a red sash, let the orange layers peek out messy and windblown, and keep makeup lightly bronzed with navy liner and subtle blue shimmer. A wide belt holds the Vision, the mask hangs from one shoulder, and a treasure map, toy spyglass and whale figure keep the props playful.
15. Hydro Mage Childe Cosplay

Hydro mage Childe is a softer alternative to the armored builds, with robes doing the work of plates. A fitted charcoal tunic, dark pants and knee-high gray boots form the base, then an asymmetrical blue overskirt, silver waist armor, long detached sleeves and a short red cape go over it. Detached sleeves slide down unless you anchor them, so I add a loop of elastic that hooks over the middle finger or an elastic band under the arm. Spike the wig neatly, and use blue shadow, silver liner and tiny water-drop gems at the temples. An ornate belt holds the Vision with translucent ribbons that flutter, plus a light spellbook and a clear acrylic orb filled with blue cellophane.
16. Abyss Explorer Childe Cosplay

The Abyss explorer mixes adventure gear with mysterious purple. A fitted gray utility jacket goes over a black base layer, dark cargo trousers and rugged lace-up boots, with burgundy straps, silver buckles, fingerless gloves and a short violet cape with an uneven hem. Rough up the wig a little at the crown, and use smoky purple shadow, cool contour and small geometric markings by one eye. A crossbody harness carries the Vision, with a journal, a glowing crystal and a battery lantern as props. For weathering, I brush washable gray powder or eyeshadow into the seams and knees, which wipes out afterward and won’t ruin a jacket you paid good money for.
17. Hydro Whale Childe Cosplay

This whale version leans into his ocean imagery. A fitted navy tunic with gray panels, black trousers and tall blue-gray boots form the base, with a translucent cape cut into gentle fin shapes, silver wave trim and a long red scarf for contrast. Organza or sheer chiffon makes a good cape, but sheer synthetics slip under the presser foot, so I sew them over tissue paper and tear it away after. Soft wig spikes, small blue crystal clips by one temple, glossy blue liner, pearl highlights and tiny painted bubbles along the cheekbone carry the theme. A plush whale and clear vinyl bracelets filled with blue glitter finish it. Keep the cape short enough that nobody steps on it in a crowd.
18. Formal White Suit Childe Cosplay

A tailored white suit makes a sleek look for a cosplay ball. Silver edging, pale gray lapels, a black dress shirt and a narrow red satin tie set it up, with matching white trousers and polished gray dress boots to keep the fantasy line. White suiting is often thin enough to show pocket bags and seam allowances, so I line it or press the seams very narrow. Style the wig neatly with controlled volume and sharp bangs. Satin foundation, cool contour, blue-gray shadow and a touch of silver liner suit the formal mood. Wear the Vision as a waist-chain pendant, pin the mask near one shoulder and carry gray gloves and a sealed diplomatic envelope.
19. Formal Black Suit Childe Cosplay

The black suit is the darker formal choice and needs almost no crafting. A slim black jacket with charcoal satin lapels, fitted trousers and polished ankle boots go with a gray waistcoat, a silver pocket chain and a bold red scarf tucked under the collar. Against all that black, the orange wig becomes the focal point, so give the bangs extra care. Clean matte makeup, defined cheekbones, smoky navy shadow and a thin silver line under the lower lashes hold up under evening light. The Vision hangs from the waistcoat chain, the mask rests at the shoulder, and a black folder with blue wave details gives your hands something to do in photos.
20. Red Carpet Childe Cosplay

Red-carpet Childe treats him like a fantasy celebrity. A fitted gray velvet jacket, black satin shirt, tapered trousers and sleek silver-gray boots form the outfit, with a long red scarf thrown over one shoulder like a sash. Velvet crushes and shines wherever you iron it directly, so I steam it from the back or press it over a towel. A few blue crystals on the cuffs and collar hint at Hydro without crowding the jacket. Give the wig a glossy finish with smooth sides and textured height, and use a satin base, structured brows, subtle contour and reflective blue liner. A jeweled Vision brooch, a metallic clutch and a small mask finish it.
21. Feminine Childe Cosplay

A feminine Childe can keep his colors and asymmetry while changing the silhouette. A fitted gray military jacket goes over a black high-neck top and a layered charcoal skort or knee-length skirt, with opaque tights, knee-high gray boots, the red scarf, silver trim and the Vision at the hip. A short orange wig reads most clearly as him, though a longer copper wig with tousled layers and side bangs works too. I’d choose the skort over a skirt if there’s any sitting on floors or steps involved. Blue winged liner, soft contour and silver highlights do the face, and gloves, water-effect bracelets and a whale purse finish it.
22. Plus-Size Childe Cosplay

Plus-size Childe looks strongest when the uniform is cut to fit rather than squeezed. I start with a structured gray jacket that closes smoothly across the chest and lets you lift your arms fully, which usually means sizing for the bust and shoulders and taking in the waist. High-rise black trousers, a wide supportive belt and stable gray boots come next, with red vertical trim and the asymmetrical scarf carrying his lines. Choose a wig with a breathable wefted cap for a long day. A heavy Vision drags a magnetic brooch down a jacket front, so a reinforced belt loop is the safer mount. Hidden elastic panels at the side seams add comfort without changing how the jacket looks.
23. Closet Childe Cosplay

You can make a convincing Childe without sewing a uniform at all. A fitted gray blazer, black mock-neck, slim dark pants and gray or black boots from your wardrobe are the base, with a red scarf tied off to one side and silver ribbon or removable fabric tape for the jacket lines. A cheap orange wig responds well to water, hairspray and clips; trim the bangs a little at a time with point cuts, because you can’t put fiber back. Straight brows, light contour and blue liner do the makeup. Make the Vision from cardboard, metallic paper and clear plastic, cut the mask from foam and mount it on a headband, and carry a blue ornament or whale plush.
24. Last-Minute Childe Cosplay

With one day to go, focus on the three things people notice first: the orange hair, the red scarf and the gray jacket. Pair a gray jacket or zip-up with black pants, dark boots and that bright scarf, run silver tape along the seams and hang a blue pendant at the hip as the Vision. No wig? Use temporary color made for hair, or an orange beanie with felt bangs stitched inside the brim. Cool blue shadow, defined brows and light contour are enough. A craft-foam mask colored with metallic markers on elastic, plus a clear blue ornament or small whale toy, completes him without any armor or sewing.
25. Thrifted Budget Childe Cosplay

A thrift store can cover nearly all of a budget Childe. Look for a gray blazer, black fitted shirt, dark trousers, a red scarf and sturdy ankle boots. Oversized pieces can be fitted with safety pins on the inside, fashion tape or a quick hand-stitched dart at the back of the jacket. Silver ribbon at the cuffs and red fabric panels along the jacket opening add his detailing. Wash a secondhand wig gently in cool water for synthetic fiber and let it air-dry on a stand before styling. Everyday makeup with cool contour, blue shadow and straight brows is enough, with a Vision from a clear plastic lid and metallic card, a foam mask and a thrifted blue glass ornament.
26. Chibi Childe Cosplay

Chibi Childe makes him rounder and sillier, and it’s all about exaggerated proportions. A cropped gray jacket with oversized silver buttons, a black shirt, knee-length shorts and rounded gray boots form the base, with a big red scarf and an enlarged foam Vision. The wig wants fluffy spikes, thick bangs and extra side volume; teasing the fiber near the cap gives lift without much spray. Rosy blush, rounded brows, blue liner and small white highlights under the eyes give the cartoon face. Make the mask a little oversized and clip it firmly beside the wig, and carry a large plush whale or soft blue orb. It’s the comfiest way to play him all day.
27. Pajama Childe Cosplay

Pajama Childe is about as comfortable as cosplay gets. A matching gray lounge set with red piping goes over a black undershirt, with soft dark slippers or supportive slip-on sneakers. I’d wear the long red scarf only for photos and swap to a light red neck ribbon the rest of the time. Mess up the wig as though he’s just woken up, and keep makeup minimal with tinted moisturizer, brushed brows, pale blue shadow and soft blush. A Vision charm on a pocket, a whale sleep mask, a plush whale and a gray blanket worn as a cape finish it. Keep the blanket short, since trailing fabric gets stepped on fast in a crowd.
28. Vampire Childe Cosplay

Vampire Childe is a playful Halloween crossover. A charcoal tailcoat, black waistcoat, fitted trousers and knee-high boots go under a red-lined cape with silver wave embroidery tying the vampire idea to his Hydro side. A full cape pulls backward on the neck, so I add a hidden loop at each front edge that buttons to the coat lapels. Give the wig dramatic volume with sharp bangs, then use pale foundation, smoky blue-gray shadow, sculpted cheekbones and costume fangs, skipping any blood. A dark red metallic mask beside the head, a jeweled Vision on the waistcoat chain, black gloves and an antique-looking invitation keep it clean enough for family events.
29. Fantasy Knight Childe Cosplay

The knight version gives him a heroic outline without a real weapon. A fitted charcoal tunic, black trousers and tall gray boots go under light silver foam armor on the shoulders and forearms, with red straps, a short crimson cape and blue crystals around the belt. Seal foam with a flexible primer before the silver paint, or the metallic finish cracks the first time the foam flexes. A tousled, windswept wig contrasts nicely with the orderly armor. Natural foundation, cool contour, navy liner and a silver highlight across the cheekbones suit it. Put the Vision on the chest or belt and carry a foam shield emblem instead of a sword, with the mask and translucent water ribbons finishing it.
30. Casual Big Brother Childe Cosplay

This is Childe off duty, the big brother writing home. A soft gray knit sweater goes under a short charcoal coat, with dark straight-leg pants and practical brown-gray winter boots. A loosely wrapped red scarf, a silver watch and a Vision charm on a crossbody satchel keep the character clear. Style the wig into natural layers rather than sharp battle spikes. Friendly makeup with warm blush, soft brows and a little blue-gray shadow fits him here. A folded letter, a wrapped toy or a plush whale suggests a gift for his siblings. It’s comfortable and quiet, and a good pick for a relaxed day or a winter photo walk.
Where the Mask and Vision Actually Attach
The red Fatui mask and the Hydro Vision appear in almost every look above. They’re small pieces, and small pieces fall off. A few ways of fixing them hold up much better than others over a long day.
- Mask: cut it from thin EVA foam, heat-shape a slight curve with a heat gun, seal it and paint it. Glue it to a plastic hair clip or a slim headband rather than the wig itself, so you can take it off without pulling fiber.
- Hot glue holding a mask to a clip turns brittle in cold air, so for the winter looks I use contact cement or stitch through the foam.
- Vision: a pin back sewn to a felt backing is light and steady on a belt. A flat-backed magnet works only for very light charms, as anything heavier slides down or gets knocked loose.
- Water ribbons and clear props: attach them to the belt with a loop and snap, so you can drop them in a bag when you sit down to eat.
If you choose colored contacts, buy only lenses fitted and prescribed for your eyes, never share them, and take them out the moment your eyes feel dry or sore. The look works perfectly well without them.
Get Childe’s Hair and Scarf Right First
Every Childe here comes back to orange hair, a gray-and-red palette, a touch of Hydro blue and a confident stance. The accurate uniform and Foul Legacy armor are real sewing and foam projects, while the streetwear, school, pajama and thrift versions can come together in a weekend. Any of them can shift for your body, the season or the event without losing who he is. For a long day, I’d put breathable layers, stable boots, light foam and accessories that are actually fixed on ahead of extra detail. Get the hair and scarf right, and the rest of the costume has room to be yours.
